Album Description

"Tara Mantras" contains the essential chants to the deity of Tara, in her Green and White emanations, chanted by H. E. Dagmo Jamyang Sakya with Lama Nyima Gejie. They were digitally recorded in Santa Monica, CA by David V. Gregoli for Dharmapala Records. The CD can be used as an aid to the Tara practice or to create a meditative mood.

Dagmo Jamyang Sakya, considered by many to be an emanation of Tara, is one of the few women Tibetan Buddhist lamas, very rare and precious.

She is the wife of H.H. Jigdal Dagchen Sakya, who is a lineage holder of Sakya, one of the four sects of Tibetan Buddhism. His father was Trichen Ngawang Thuptop Wangchuk, the last great throne-holder in Sakya, Tibet.

The deity Tara is the female emanation of the Buddha of Compassion who chooses forever to reincarnate as a woman. She is the Mother of All Buddhas.

All profits from this CD go to The Mother Tara Sakya Center or 'Tara-Ling'. This is a non-sectarian, non-profit Tibetan Buddhist Center whose mission is to preserve and teach Tibetan culture and philosophy to all who are interested, through the message of Tara.

Mantra and Self-understanding.......2005-06-12

Mantra is a tool to connect with subtle vibrations that transform our minds/hearts into purified existence. The mantra avialable on this recording can help you in that direction. Green Tara mantra is usefull for all kinds of healing, be it personal afflictions, addictions, vices etc.. The Vajrasattva Mantra is for purification and resolution of past karma.

This is not music, this is prayer. Her voice on the recording is full of clarity and innocence, and this is passed along to the one listening to this chanting.

I work in a spiritual bookstore and have listed to hundreds of "mantra" cd's. This is of the highest quality and sincerity of heart that you can possibly find.

A very beautiful recording.......2004-05-29

I just want to say that dispite the negative review, this is a very worthwhile recording. However, it is NOT a recording of the deep overtone chanting style made famous by the Gyoto and Drepung Losling monasteries. Instead, this is a very bare-bones recording of chanting, very similar to what I have experienced when doing Tibetan Buddhist practice with my lamas. Both styles of chanting have their qualities... but I could see how one might be dissappointed with this recording if you're expecting the former!

If you're looking to expand your practice with an inspirational rendition of the mantras keep looking(or try Mantras fro Tibet OM TARA By Sarva-Antah). I was hoping this CD would strengthen my practice by inspiring me through an appreciatiion and celebration of the beauty of harmony and the human voice. Though this CD is a very heartfelt repetition, it's musically quite painful.

Deep Heart Song.......2002-02-17

This is a deeply centering experience. Prayer from the ancient soul. Listening to this CD brings me into a state of peace and meditation. Music like this is not easily available on CD and it's very valuable in these times. Highly recommended for yoga, meditation, relaxation, and prayer.

The words in this CD give it a peacefulness, but it's the beautiful singing that makes it great listening. This is soul music.

Chanting For "Two Souls".......2002-06-30

My betrothed and I wanted Thom to sing a chant for us during our wedding ceremony as we had really admired his acoustic guitar playing, chanting and singing during yoga retreats and workshops over the years. We were pleased to know that Thom had recorded "Chanting Soul" and we listened to it noting that the "Ode To The Lotus" had more of a fusion and perhaps rock feel to it and not quite like the version from "yoga camp." As we played it and played it, it took! Amazing but no such ground has been broken in crossing genres since Madonna took on the "Yoga Invocation" in Ray of Light." Thom's CD was requested by so many guests after he performed at the nuptials in NYC, that we're giving it as a gift to the new die hard fans and will direct all to Amazon.com to purchase their own.

Uplifting.......2002-05-17

Chanting Soul, by Thom Birch is truly an uplifting and throughly
enjoyable CD...from the first time I heard it, I felt very drawn to Birch's almost haunting chants and the upbeat jazz guitar background. It stirs one's soul, and for me, brings a feeling of inner peace as I listen to it. It is a CD that could be played at anytime...wonderful backgound music for a dinner party...creating almost a nightclub atmosphere as you listen to it. If you want a lift, a comforting peace, and just plain good listening, I highly recommend this CD.

Rich Voice, Pure Spirit.......2007-03-21

Chagdud Tulku had one of the richest and most resonant chanting voices that I've heard, and this is one of a handful of my favorite chant albums of any type. Here he chants traditional texts and mantras alone and unaccompanied, with lyrical traditional melodies and exquisite vocal ornamentation. Very inspiring.

Only for mantra lovers!.......2006-03-01

This is not like the melodic Gyuto monk chants. Rinpoche chants authentic mantras in a slightly off-key, unmelodic voice. It gets monotonous and even irritating after 10 minutes. This is for those devotees of authentic Buddhist mantras, and should not be considered "music."

Overheard Beauty.......2005-09-01

I heard this cd playing in the shop Lhasa Handicrafts in Seattle
while I was shopping there. The cd belonged to the salesclerk
who was working there.

I could not believe my ears, it was spellbingingly beautiful. I
thought I was listening to the voices of the winds in high mountainous places, whispering of hope and salvation. The Master's voice was that of a very old soul, one who had seen much, and yet still was smiling with the joy of life. It was a
profoundly moving experience, and one that I will never forget.
I was awestruck. Still am. It teaches you by sound. And hea-
ven knows we need his soul-moving beauty now more than ever.

I cannot recommend this enough. It puts you instantly into a better place, and I thank the Rinpoche for making this cd.

Album Description

Deborah Thurlow's debut CD, Angelic Waves, is a musical getaway for the mind, body and spirit. This CD was created for the sole purpose to contact the Angelic Realm.

It opens with the sounding of bells, Sacred Processional. The bells represent female energy or the Yin within all of us. The sound of the orchestral strings will hug you and inspire you.

The Native American Flute or flutes are the oldest instruments in existence. They are the extention of the body, played with breath, the life force. The flute enables one to connect with the heavenly realm. The Angelic vocal selections on this CD will enhance that connection.

Finally, in Sacred Postlude - Archangel Sandalphon, you hear the sounds of the Tingsha, Tibetan Singing Bowl, Shofar (Ram's Horn)and French Horn which is tuned to match the harmonics of the other instruments.

In the Buddist tradition the sounding of the Tingsha both starts and ends the Meditation or Prayer session. The Tibetan Singing Bowl represents the human soul pulsating with the occassinonal striking of the bowl which symbolises an awakening. The sounding of the Shofar (Ram's Horn) is the sound that attracts the Archangel Sandalphon. The French Horn plays a melody from a Jewish prayer, Avinu Malkeinu (Our Father,Our King), which is song on Rosh Hoshanah (Jewish New Year). This enhances the communication to contact Archangel Sandalphon.
