Scoff if you must, but the Kidz Bop gang clearly stepped up its game for 12. Song selection is the biggest factor--instead of popular but cryptic numbers kids can't relate to like "Black Horse & the Cherry Tree," from 11, here we have a gaggle of tunes ripe for kid-translation, Gwen Stefani's "Sweet Escape," Fergie's flouncy-flouncy "Glamorous," and Rihanna's "Umbrella" among them. Also excellent about this disc which, try though it may, is destined to be trashed by those who don't get it (that would be pretty much everybody over 9) is its timing: Its release comes on the heels of a bunch of Bop-related hoopla, including a "Kidz Bop World Tour" and a redesigned website that lets kids submit their own music videos. Let the bopping, and the grown-up groaning, begin. --Tammy La GorceAlbum Description

Kids like it. Who would've guessed?.......2007-08-07
This is a great pick for kids growing out of The Wiggles and Backyardigans CDs, but not quite ready for uncensored radio play.
13 is next. Let's hope the series takes a dive, thanks to unlucky 13.......2007-08-07
The amazon review says that people over 9 don't "get it". That's a bunch of bull____. There's nothing to get, this music is just horrible, and the fact that she uses a concept of getting the music, man, forget it. She is supporting this evil, wretched, horrible music, just by saying that some people don't get it, but's it's actually get. Blasphemy!

Much Better than the Original Versions.......2007-08-01
1. "Beautiful Liar" - The original by Shakira and Beyonce is done very well here, with the kids performing the hard to comprehend chorus very well. In fact, on this version, you can actually understand the words! Better than the original!
2. "The Sweet Escape" - Originally by Gwen Stefani, this is a definite standout.
3. "Say It Right" - Originally by Nelly Furtado, this is a hard song to perform, but you know what - I love this version!
4. "What Goes Around" - This amazing song by Justin Timberlake is done even better here - a great, solid track
5. "Never Again" - This Kelly Clarkson song sounds like it was made for the Kids! If you remember their AMAZING cover of "Since You've Been Gone", you'll know that they fare especially well covering Kelly's songs. This is really amazing stuff here, and I suggest you pick this up if only for this track!!
Seriously, this is a wonderful album. Much better than most compilation albums, this one soars when it has to, and the song selection is much better than the NOW series. Yes, these are covers done by kids, but they are NOT cheap recordings - on the other hand, they lend a very hummable, singable quality to all the tracks here, and make every one of them instantly memorable.
All Kids Bop albums are masterpieces. This one really ups it a notch. FIVE STARS!

On her fifth studio CD, folk-rocker Patty Griffin employs three timeless themes--childhood, flight, and death--to craft her most musically diverse and accessible album yet. But while moving through jazz, beatnik, classic and modern folk, gospel R&B, Americana, and moody piano ballad, Griffin keeps her backing quiet and spare, all the more to showcase the power of her deft storytelling and the bell clarity of her unadorned soprano. On song after song, the characters who waft through her experience are on the move, chasing one thing and fleeing another--on trains, ships, buses, in cars, even on the aerialist's bar--ultimately trading an ending of one kind for a new beginning and transference. Sometimes--as on the Rickie Lee Jones-ish "Stay on the Ride," where an old man with no name answers an existential urge for going--they don't even know what it is. "Trapeze," the most resonant offering, follows an aging circus performer who'd rather work without a net than take her chances in love. Here, Emmylou Harris adds one of her most aching harmony lines to Griffin's exquisite, ethereal lead, while in the next track, "Getting Ready," the singer turns a 180, laying a sneering Dylanesque vocal over a fiercely scrubbed acoustic guitar and an occasional dissonant kiss-off. "Baby, baby, you were my drug/And I was just your cigarette," she drones knowingly. One suspects that particular object of her affections will soon regret it. --Alanna NashCustomer Reviews:
excellent cd!!!!!!!!!.......2007-07-24
Not up to her standard.......2007-07-23
Sadly, this cd is not up to her best. She seems to be trying to make a more 'upbeat' and accessible cd, but I feel that this approach has led her astray. Too often the lyrics are trite and obvious, and the melodies are lost in guitars being banged. Her wonderful voice is still strong, but too often she adopts the modern 'warbling' which cames across as unauthentic. Maybe she's trying to reach out to a wider audience and I guess from all the positive reviews she has succeeded to some extent.
But if you're a fan of her previous work, you're likely to be a little dissappointed here. Not once in listening to this cd did I get those rushes of emotion that I always get from her. The album sounds rushed to me, or maybe she didn't get proper help from a good producer. Eitherway, this is Griffin 'lite.' Sounds like her, but the punch just ain't there.

High School Musical : The Songs.......2007-06-13
Did you like the High School Musical movie? If so, try the soundtrack! It's the same great songs, singers and fun. Every song (there is eleven) is the same as in the movie except now there is a chance for you to multi-task while enjoying the same singers from the film. Some include Mathew Gerrard, Ray Cham, Adam Watts, Faye Greenberg, Jamie Houston and Kevin Quinn. I really enjoy these songs because they describe what is going on in the movie. For example: when Troy is playing basketball (Get'cha Head in the Game), Ryan and Sharpay's callback song (Bop to the Top) or when Troy and Gabriella meet each other (Start of Some thing New).
I really enjoy these songs. I have memorized each and every one of them and sing along when I listen to this CD. Every song has a catchy tune, so soon, you'll be singing along too. With a High School Musical soundtrack, you can even sing along when you watch the movie. My favorite song is "When There was me and you". It is when Troy and Gabriella don't think they should go to callbacks. Just a little bit after this song they decide to go to callbacks.
I recommend this soundtrack for those who like the movie, High School Musical. The songs are a mix of upbeat, sad or just plain silly. Everyone will enjoy these just as much as they liked they movie. Those who haven't seen the movie will want to see it after listening to this soundtrack.

Admit it: If you had to pick an artist to give voice to the wackadoo thinkings of a monkey beloved by most of the American populace over age 3, you could do a lot worse than Jack Johnson. Black Eyed Peas? Too hyper. Death Cab for Cutie? Too ironic. They Might Be Giants? Too eggheaded. Johnson, though the object of much rightful jealousy--here, after all, is a guy who only stumbled into music and vaulted himself up the charts after a successful career as a pro surfer--turns out to have the goods to do H.A. Rey, Curious George's creator, proud. Fans familiar with Johnson's earlier discs will recognize a certain laconic sprawl and easy fascination in his songs that suits the theme of perpetual puzzlement perfectly (here, let's not forget, is a guy who racked up fans with songs called "Bubble Toes" and "Banana Pancakes"). That the music takes a childish turn barely registers--songs like opener "Upside Down" are classic Johnson, all wonderment and groove, and the collaborations with friends Ben Harper, G. Love, and Matt Costa warm up, wink, and scamper off before packing on the weight of excess meaning. "We're Going to Be Friends," track seven, seals the deal--when you can make the White Stripes sound compatible with the Man with the Yellow Hat, you know you've got a multi-generational winner. --Tammy La GorceDescription
Faced with the task of giving a voice to a central character that does not speak, Universal Pictures turned to Jack Johnson to craft songs that could provide a voice for Curious George. As a new father, it gave him the opportunity to make an album for both parents and children. Presented with early animations and the story line, Jack crafted new songs that capture the emotions of Curious George as he leaves the jungle to follow the Man with the Yellow Hat. He also turned to friends Ben Harper, G. Love, and Matt Costa to contribute songs that might bridge the gap between parent and child. Joined on the record by his band (Adam Topol, Merlo Podlewski, and Zack Gill), Jack duets with three of the other songwriters (Ben Harper, G. Love, and Matt Costa), and does a cover of the White Stripes' "We're Going to Be Friends." Parents who watched Schoolhouse Rock on Saturday mornings when they were children will recognize Jack's take on the classic "Three Is a Magic Number," reinterpreted with the 3 R's as a call to protect the environment and Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Sing-a-Longs and Lullabies feels like so much more than your standard soundtrack due to its unified creative vision. While the songs have a universal appeal, their themes speak to a child's experience (or in this case, a curious monkey's experience) of the world.

Also, it has been proven that classical music has nothing to do with the cognitive development of young people. Now, teach them how to play piano or violin and you have yourself an actual YOUNG EINSTEIN, but listening to this kind of music does nothing for the development of the brain. It is just for lazy parents that can't sit down with their kids and play with them or read them a book.

Cars is a typical Disney-Pixar animated movie in that it deals with an anthropomorphic character (here, a car) and the heartwarming values of family and friendship. (Alas, we'll have to wait a little while longer for the company to take on greed and selfishness.) The accompanying soundtrack is equally typical in that it's split between catchy pop songs and a score by Randy Newman. The clear highlight of the pop tracks is Sheryl Crow's boisterous, huge-sounding "Real Gone" (her best song in ages). Rascal Flatts also cover Tom Cochrane's 1991 hit "Life Is a Highway," while John Mayer rocks out on "Route 66" (Chuck Berry's elegantly lean version is included as well). For his part, Newman continues his distinguished association with quality animation by supplying a nimble score. It's fun to hear him deploy riffs that wouldn't be out of place on a Quiet Riot album on the bombastic "Opening Race," while the bluesy "Bessie" does George Thorogood with a tuba. The CD's overall Southern flavor is emphasized by the frequent use of banjo and slide guitar, as well as by score tracks cantering about, like "McQueen and Sally." And, as usual, Newman delivers a nostalgic, misty-eyed song--in this case "Our Town," performed by that master of sensitive laid-back charm, James Taylor. --Elisabeth VincentelliCustomer Reviews:

No stranger to the realm of children's records, They Might Be Giants have seen success with their CD No! and the book-and-CD combo Bed, Bed, Bed. Their latest CD, Here Come the ABCs, offers up 25 alphabetically themed songs. However, as is their charming way, the two Johns (Flansburgh and Linnell), use the letters as merely the connective tissue, allowing them to pursuit intriguing flights of fancy that consider everything from the relative power of letters and sounds to animal hijinks. Just as they've always done, there are wistful ballads and high octane rockers. TMBG have always been a family-friendly band, and this disc works just fine for adult fans, who can rightfully consider this simply their newest release. --David GreenbergerCustomer Reviews:

My favorite track is Fake-Believe, while my children heartily enjoy E Eats Everything. This is much more than typical children's music or corny songs about the alphabet -- it is They Might Be Giants in everyway. Blending silliness with sophistiaction is the m.o. of tmbg, and the two Johns definitely hit the mark with this dvd/cd. You and your children will come back to this over and over, you might even beg for more!

Baby Beluga is a fun-filled collection of favorite children's songs and Raffi originals, all performed in the singer's folksy, expressive style. Beluga begins with the sounds of whales communicating in their high-pitch squeaks (which presented here come across as cute and sweet) and features melodic lines that evoke vivid pictures of gentle waves and a frolicking whale. An illustrated sing-along book that is published separately is a nice companion to this first track, giving young listeners visual images of the song's narrative. The rest of this varied album blends traditional songs like "Oats and Beans and Barley" and "This Old Man" with four original pieces by Raffi, including the instrumental "Water Dance." Liner notes have the complete lyrics, a description and history of beluga whales, and explanations of Raffi's inspiration and ties to each song. This is an excellent album with catchy tunes that's sure to become a household favorite. --Tami HoriuchiCustomer Reviews:
