This is really a dazzeling album! Yurdal Tokcan is a marvelous ud player and his playing style is very innovative and masterful. He performs some very moving taksims (improvisations) of his composition on various makams, creating a highly contemplative and expressive atmosphare. Beside the traditional exponents in his music, he uses various advanced playing techniques, such as the one called "the fretless guitar technique" - on tracks 2 and 7 for exemple - which he has clearly derived from the Western guitar playing techniques and with a very impressive result.
In my opinion, the skillfulness of Tokcan is peeraless among all other ud players today!
This is a must-have album for anyone interested in Turkish or Middle Eastern music and absolutely one of the best ud albums ever released.!
