About the Artist
This year, Neshoma Orchestra is celebrating its twenty- third anniversary. In the world of Jewish musical entertainment this is indeed a remarkable milestone. As we look forward to another successful year, it is worth reflecting on the tremendous growth, reputation, and accomplishments of Neshoma Orchestra.

Under the leadership of Michael Sojcher and Elly Zomick, Neshoma Orchestra has grown to become the most prestigious, well-known and respected Jewish music organization in the Tri-State area. Epitomizing the very highest level of achievement, Neshoma Orchestra has chosen the path taken by many of the most successful corporations in America today. That is, create a team of professionals that include the most talented, most dedicated and most gifted in both the art of music and the business of music. Then mold this team into a cohesive force that can work together to create a musical product that is ever-evolving, always growing and constantly exciting.

Many of the administrative and musician members of Neshoma Orchestra have been in place since its inception twenty three years ago. Others have joined the ranks over the course of the past few years. These valued and devoted staff members have been the main reason behind the success of Neshoma Orchestra. Our Band-leaders and featured performers include Ari Boiangiu, Dave Bogner, Shimmy Braun, Shimon Craimer, Jordan Hirsch, Eli Kahn, Dov Katz, Dov Levine, Ophie Nat, Mo Shapiro, Avromy Weisberger, and Elly Zomick. To read more about our musicians please click HERE.

A lot of planning goes into the execution of a perfect event. Our administrative staff consists of people dedicated to making sure that each and every client. s need is fulfilled. They include: David Hirsch - Musical Director and Dov Katz - Director of Staffing.

The entire staff of Neshoma Orchestra takes tremendous pride in the process that begins when an affair is booked, continues through the musical preparations, and ends with a spectacular performance at the party. The successful completion of this cycle, over and over again, has brought tremendous Nachas to all those who work at Neshoma Orchestra. It has also inspired the confidence of thousands of clients and repeat clients over the past several years.

In addition to the private, corporate, and organizational parties that Neshoma Orchestra does throughout the year, the many musicians who perform with Neshoma Orchestra have also become the most sought-after performing artists in both the Jewish concert and recording fields. In fact, some of today. s most featured concert vocalists have made it their practice to have Neshoma Orchestra as their first choice to back them in concert performances.

In short, as Neshoma Orchestra begins its twenty-third anniversary celebration, we can happily look forward to more growth, more success, more music, and more Neshoma @ Your Simcha.

4 out of 5 stars Solid Third Album from the 'Future of the Funk'.......2007-06-05

Walking with a Panther
Released in the spring of 1989, Walking with a Panther" is one-time "Prince of Rap" LL Cool J's third album. For this outing LL serves as the main producer (with Bigger and Deffer collaborators Dwayne Simon & Darryl Pierce). The LP's opening song, "Droppin' Em" is a solid return to form, as are "Smokin' Dopin'" and "Clap Your Hands". "One Shot at Love" and "Two Different Worlds" push the rap-ballad envelope a little too further than it needed to be, but the synthesizer-propelled "Am I Still Your Heart?" is on point. "Fast Peg" is a cautionary tale about a mob moll who takes her lifestyle for granted: "...Her man messed up the money, ridin' around thinking everything's funny; went to a disco, came outside; somebody pushed her in a beat-up ride; she had to pay for her man's mistakes..."

On the first single "I'm That Type of Guy", LL depicts himself as a sneaky playboy who can't wait to romance another guy's woman; the follow-up hit, "Big Ole Butt", continues the theme, as LL recounts his fetish for prominent rear ends. The Bomb Squad-produced "It Don't Get No Rougher" and "Nitro" find LL spitting battle-rhymes with fierceness. "Change Your Ways" features live drums & guitar; and the original "Jingling Baby" lifts the theme to blaxploitation movie "Black Belt Jones". Also tacked on to the disc is LL's 1987 pop smash "Going Back to Cali", originally featured on the Less than Zero movie soundtrack.

Admittedly, LL was in full party mode with this album. But surprisingly, at the time of its release, LL took a beating from urban fans who felt he had gone pop. Afrocentric, political hip-hop and gangster rap had recently become all the rage, and by comparison LL's quasi-hedonism of good times was deemed socially irresponsible. But for fair-minded listeners, there's more funk for your trunk than you might think.

Note: At the time of its release, "Panther" was one of the first double-LPs for rap. Tracking at over 75 minutes, there were a few songs left off the CD that should hopefully show up on a double-disc re-release. They would be "Jack the Ripper", which was LL's response to then-rival Kool Moe Dee's harangues, and "Crime Stories".

4 out of 5 stars An above average displaced album from LL.....................2007-04-26

LL did not slack lyrically on Walking with A Panther. The major and really only legitimate beef that most fans and critics can say about LL's third album is that it was out of place when compared to landmark releases of 88 and 89 by PE, EPMD, BDP, X Clan, NWA, De La Soul and others. In short, LL was celebrating his success while there was a major cultural awareness in hiphop. This caused LL to get slammed by critics and was a major influence for LL's next classic release "Mama Said Knock You Out."

5 out of 5 stars LL's best album {4/5 stars}.......2006-09-08

Standout tracks: DROPPIN EM, SMOKIN DOPIN, FAST PEG, CLAP YOUR HANDS, NITRO, IM THAT TYPE OF GUY, WHY DO YOU THINK THEY CALL IT DOPE, IT GETS NO ROUGHER, 1-900- LL COOL J, JINGLING BABY(go head baby), DEF JAM IN THE MOTHERLAND and BIG OLE BUTT. Filler: You're my heart, Going back to Cali(never felt it), One shot at love, Two different worlds(too many wack girlie records), Change your ways(a song with a message that falls short). Bottom Line: Minus all the superbooty girlie records this album stands out as LL best album. He stepped up his rap game tremendously and busted the dopest rhymes of his rap career on tracks like Droppin Em, Nitro, Clap your hands, Jingling Baby etc. Unfortunately the horrific chick songs bring this album down a bit but for every record like Two different worlds he gives a records like Why do you think they call it dope, It gets no rougher, Smokin dopin etc so Im cool with that. If you can skip past the terrible chick songs you can add this one to your collection.

1 out of 5 stars The Worst LL Cool J in History.......2005-09-21

Walking with a panther 1/2 Star

This is the worst LL Cool J album I've ever seen, I Hated it, Although I Didn't like 14 Shots to the dome, Phenomenon and The DEFintion, but those look like masterpieces compared to this junk, LL's performance is really terrible, the songs are terrible, everything about this album is really bad, Sadly LL Got backlashed and booed pretty harshly in showtime in the apollo in 1989 and what's worse NWA & Public Enemy brought a major change to rap.

Thankfully he made a comeback after this and he blew people away this time with Mama said knock you out.

This is a dreadful album, absolutely dreadful.

3 out of 5 stars WALKING WITH A PANTHER?.......2005-09-19

LL has always been one of my favorite rappers. In a way, he was the Richard Roundtree (John Shaft) of his day. A cool dude who defined the masculine black man down to the Tee. Through claiming his microphone superiority, Having all the women, and firing back at any MC who dare oppose or questions his skills, He was (and still is) a Bad muthaf*cka in his own right.

Walking with A Panther has his best as well as his most dreadful tracks he ever recorded. If this overlong 20 track album was trimmed down to a 12 track opus, It would rival Mama Said Knock you Out as being his best album. But as it stands, classic gems like "Droppin Em" and "Im that Type of Guy" are seqeunced with forgettable tracks like the rap ballads One shot at love, You're my Heart, and Two Different Worlds. While Big Old Butt is one of his classic skirt chasing (A** chasing rather) tracks, 1-900 Cool J tries to duplicate that potency to no avail. This CD should be remastered with and trimmed down by dropping the filler

Desired track selection:

1. Droppin Em
2. Smokin Dopin
3. Fast Peg
4. Clap Your Hands
5. Nitro
6. I'm That type of Guy
7. Why do you think They call it Dope?
8. Going Back To Cali
9. It gets No Rougher
10.Big ole Butt
11.Jealous
12.Jack the Ripper

This would of made a 4.5 star album instead of a barely above average album.

Now I know what these pieces should sound like. While I've come close once in a while, often i've been way off, so I appreciated learning more about what Gershwin expected. Most of all, I simplyI enjoyed hearing how he brought his compositions to life. (Most pianist miss the mark, and few tackle, as piano solos or duets, some of the pieces he plays.) If you've been looking for authenticity (technical and emotional), I strongly recommend Gershwin's piano rolls collections.

4 out of 5 stars Sunny.......2001-02-20

I first listened to this CD in my mom's car...she never likes music very loud, so I was listening to it softly. DON'T do this. It was bland, uninteresting, and I regretted buying it. However, I got home, and put it into my bedroom CD player, and turned the volume up high...Wow! It was suddenly toe-tapping and swingy, and the melodies were sheer perfection (I love those raggy tunes).

My only complaint is the lack of stringed instruments like banjos (albeit not widespread in the repertoire/style for part of the target period) as a good grounding for the airiness of the winds, which seemed to be lacking in places. It's also great percussion, and drums just don't always do the trick.

But anyways, my advice is: turn the volume up--don't even listen to it on headphones--and lose yourself. A delight. :)

5 out of 5 stars Another Dorian winner.......1999-07-22

How does Dorian do it? After a superlative recreation of (DIS 80107) and (DIS 80153), they come near to topping them both with (DIS 93165). Here The New Columbian Brass Band under George Foreman syncopates again (they did the "Coney Island set) with 21 once very popular band tunes ranging from the 1895 "A Kansas Two-Step" to the relatively recent 1920 "Zampede." Not only does it all leave you (i.e., me) breathless at the end, but one might wish for a bit more than the 62 minutes Dorian provides on this CD. I urge you to have both the "Demon Rag" set with the Paragon Ragtime Orchestra and compare it with the sound of this set's band sound. Both are legitimate, both utterly authentic (as far as I can tell), and each complements the other nicely. So if you think your great-greats were still Victorian stick in the muds in the Edwardian age, these discs will show that even they knew how to have a good time. My only complaint is the producers printing the contents over a picture. More and more companies are doing this and it is very annoying. The information inside the booklet, however, is well presented and the illustrations wonderful.

5 out of 5 stars Every last note..........2006-06-14

A super budget 5 CD collection of all of Grainger's Piano music.
Every last note!
The shipping alone would be $17.00+ for the 5 individual Cds.
Englishman Martin Jones plays these as if he wrote them. He is thoroughly inside this music.
I think his best work to date.
He is joined on CD #5 by Richard Mcmahon and Phillip Martin. Where they rollick in various combos and trios on 1, 2 and 3 pianos. This is exhilerating. Especially on an truly uplifting version of Green Bushes.
The entire set is strongly idiomatic and given a clear, crisp, warm and spacious recording. FIRST CLASS sound.
There are too many highlights to single out, but the In A Nutshell Suite and Green Bushes are especially GOOD!
There is not a bad note or "vibe" on any of these CDs.
Highly recommended for Granger fans and fans of English Piano Music.

4 out of 5 stars This One You Have To Decide For Yourself.......2003-12-22

Merry Christmas, everyone! Here's a Christmas CD from the male vocal ensemble The Gents, from the Netherlands. It's full of terrific performances and slick Hollywood-type arrangements; Sammy Kahn's Let it Snow is representative of the disc itself. But I have to admit, this is definitely not everyone's cup of tea--listen to what Amazon have provided for White Christmas and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, and judge on that basis. What the Gents, their arrangers and backing ensembles have done on this disc they've done tremendously well, there's no mistake about that. But some people just don't like the sound of a male alto. Did you find those selections exalting, or weird? If the former, this is the disc for you. If the latter, avoid this one entirely. Most of the pieces on the disc are Christmas standards of the sort you might find on a Barbra Streisand Holiday special-Winter Wonderland, Sleigh Ride, White Christmas and the like. The standards are spiced with a few more recent pieces and some quite old ones in modern dress. Howard Blake's Walking in the Air, which you might know from The Snowman, is one of the best tracks, where the use of the male alto probably works for everyone, since the song is meant for a boy soprano.

The backing players are the Rubens String Quartet, the Marimba Quartet Carrfour, and Maxkym Minakov, all of whom do a terrific job. There's only one real miscue on the CD for me, and that's the weird arrangement of Paul McCartney's Wonderful Christmastime. I think it's a pretty horrid song in the first place-definitely not McCartney's best work-and the a cappella arrangement is a valiant effort but just seems a little nuts. Hopefully you'll find it full of seasonal humor, but I'm more of a Scrouge about it. My favorite is the arrangement of Gaudete Christus est natus, from the 1400's. The Gents start straight, but gradually add the marimba quartet for a wonderfully rich sound, complemented by new counterpoints and body percussion!
