Makes You Smile.......2006-10-18

This album is what I call a "happy" album, it makes you smile. I remember the Scandinavian Shuffle when it was popular in 1960. This album is very enjoyable and features 2 instrumentals, 2 vocals, and 8 "scat" wordless selections. Regrettably the album is very short and leaves the listener wanting longer versions of the album's selections. The Swe-Dane Shuffle is less than 2 minutes. Also, the Swe-Dane Shuffle does not seem to be in stereo and is hollow sounding. It is the only selection on the album that is recorded in inferiority quality. Overall, though, this is a fun album.

Alice Babs and the Swe-Danes.......2005-09-11

This recording is a great introduction to Alice Babs. This small, disciplined group of dedicated musicians packs so much fun and playfulness into an all-too-brief vocal jazz frolic that at the end it always leaves me sad that there isn't more.
The energy, precision, and virtuosity of Alice Babs' vocals are startling on this album, yet the music is full of fun and humor. It has a refreshing lightness and humility, and I get none of that sense of grandstanding or unreachability that I sometimes get, as an untrained ear, when I to jazz.
It's just pure enjoyment--virtuoso goofiness and fun.

Alice Babs is wonderful.......2002-02-21

Finding recordings of Alice Babs is not easy in the U.S. This disc contains some wonderful tracks of Babs singing with Duke Ellington and his orchestra. Noteworthy is track 7, Serenade to Sweden, a short melody which contains no words, only vocalizations, Babs' voice is remarkable nonetheless.

A Stong Live Set from the End of Duke's Life.......2000-04-16

This set was recorded live Malmo Sweden in 1973, and it is a much stronger set than Duke's Third Sacred Concert, or the Eastbourne set.

Have the concert is given over to songs featuring Alice Babs, one of Duke's favorit vocalists.

Bravo Alice And Ulrik! .......2005-05-19

Wow! Brilliant, gorgeous music making. Alice Babs can do no wrong, and this CD is worth the price. Alice and Ulrik are an acoustic, Swedish Les Paul & Mary Ford without the overdubbing! I am very pleased that this recording has finally been reissued: this album was supposed to "introduce" Alice Babs to folks in the U.S. in 1958 (sadly there's a typo in the editorial review here which says 1985); however... Alice had some recordings on Decca before then in the U.S. Unfortunately the transfer is a bust. Within the first 10 second someone (or a cat) rubs slightly against the tape reel that was used to transfer the obviously vinyl recording, and the pitch fluxuates embarassingly: I couldn't believe this-- That someone would transfer this brilliant recording and mess it up so incredibly royally bad. Since it was issued in 1958, Dot (or MCA as it is now I guess) ought to be able to scare up the master tapes, which certainly could be remixed down into stereo. But anyway. Don't listen to me! Get this CD. Listen to the CD instead. This is a gorgeous pairing a la Caterina Valente and her brother Silvio. I can't stop playing Two Sleepy People. Nice!
