5 out of 5 stars WMD - Weapons of Musical Devotion.......2003-09-09

One listen will tell you that these are party people! Bossa Nova? forget about it...this is Kátia Nova! If you can't go to Brasil then get this CD. If you've already been to Rio, then get this CD and refresh your memory ! Kátia and Gurus of Samba take you through a tour of the rich Brazilian musical traditions. Where's my pandiero? But what's even better is how the group infuses their songs with other World Music forms. Check out Tanta Saudade and Mãe Africa on Disc 2. If you are fortunate enough to catch a live performance, you'll really be hooked. More energy than a capoeira exhibition. You might even learn to samba. Gosto muito!

5 out of 5 stars The next best thing to seeing them live.......2003-09-08

This band shows, on it's double CD set, how good it truly is by making a great live recording. I have seen the band live and have to say Kátia and the band are such great preformers and I think it comes out on the CDs.
They play a wide selection of music from ballads to high-energy dance music. Samba, Bossa Nova, Frevo, and Pagoge are a few of the styles.
To me, many live recordings have too much audience applause. In this CD set it is kept to a minimum so you can play the CD repeatedly getting the spontaneity of live recording with the audience response skillfully edited.
I enjoyed hearing new versions of songs from their first two CDs and all the new ones as well. I highly reccomend this CD set.

5 out of 5 stars Live: Studio City, CA.......2003-09-06

This two CD set captures all the excitement and good vibrations of an evening with Katia Moraes and Sambaguru. Established fans will hear favorite and familiar tunes but will also enjoy some new surprises. These selections make for a great introduction Brazilian music, but they're sure to please veteran lovers of samba and salsa as well. No two Sambaguru shows are ever alike, and the clarity of this recording captures Katia's unique exuberance and the extraordinary musicianship of her band. Be sure to wear your dancing shoes!
