The rhythyms, vocals, and instruments are a feast for your ears, even if you do not understand her. Izaline Calister's music will grab you and make sure that you don't forget her or this cd.

5 out of 5 stars I'm in heaven.............2005-02-22

I discovered this fantastic artist from a world music review. I had really no experience with music from the Dutch caribbean. I sampled the tracks on her website, and absolutely fell in love with her voice. She is influenced by such jazz singers as Diane Reeves, Ella Fitzgerald, and Brazilian singer Elis Regina. This is her 3rd solo CD, but the first to be released in the U.S. On this CD, she combines jazz, samba, soukous, zouk, and rhythms from her homeland, Curacao. Some tracks are slow and make you want to sit back and think, meditate. But, there are just as many songs that will make you get up and dance! If you love Brazilian music, I think there is a huge chance you will love this too. She sings in Papiamento, a creole language spoken in the Dutch Antilles. She has become one of my absolutely favorite female world music singers. Please check this out. She is very popular in Europe, now America needs to discover her!

5 out of 5 stars Changing Creole moods.......2004-11-18

Though Izaline and most of the other musicians in her group are based in the Netherlands and have traveled the world, all are natives of Curaco, so even though most of the music can be described as jazz (and individual tunes will remind listeners of different places such as Brazil, Cuba, Haiti, Jamaica, Trinidad, etc.), the core of this project is the Creole (African/European) mix of her native island.
The moods of her music keep changing: ballads, sophisticated samba, dancable carnival music - back and forth.

This is a must have piece of art. Her voice, the way she sings...even if you do not understand what she is singing about...you will get the picture loud and clear!!!
It's beautiful and the music will touch your heart.....

5 out of 5 stars Izaline Calister.......2004-10-23

First time I heard Izaline Calister was when I was back on my island of Aruba at a dance recital in the summer of 2002. It's unbelievable how the song, which was a tumba, just took me by surprise giving a local rythm a taste of jazz plus the fine classic touch. Even though the songs are in Papiamento which is the local language of Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao. The music will attract anyone who loves jazz. I did not know from who it was until this summer "Wowi Carinjo" became one of the biggest hit on the island of Aruba. If you're looking for some good Caribbean jazz music this is the CD to buy. This CD was a must have in my collection. Izaline Calister has an angelic voice expressing through emotions. Great work!!
