After visiting Prague in the Fall of 2001, I bought this cd in hopes that it would contain a good cross-reference of music from Prague - possibly something to even bring back the flavor of this wonderful place. The music here clocks in just under an hour, with 2 classical works from Czech compatriots Dvorak and Smetana and 14 folk songs. The folk pieces are all performed by the same ensemble (the Prague Funfair Orchestra), but since there's not a scrap of info about the music on the cd (song titles and timings, that's it), it's hard to tell just what kind of song you're listening to. My bare-bones translation suggests a mixture of politics/nationalism, drinking songs and "poor peasant" songs. Accordion and flute are the main instruments, and most songs have multiple vocalists (mostly male, although the one female vocalist that I recall sounds VERY much like Miss Piggy from the Muppets).
The two classical pieces ARE classics, at least. Dvorak's "Slavonic Dances" is performed by the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Smetana's "Die Moldau" (about the Vltava river that splits Prague) is performed by The Berlin Philharmonic.
All in all, the music is okay - but with absolutely no liner notes about the music, you may as well be listening to Radio Prague.

As far as the "Travel Guide" goes... what a wretched WASTE of paper.
If you're willing to pay a couple bucks more, you will find MUCH better travel guides with at least 10 times as much info. Here you have 40 small pages (CD booklet, remember) of 3 columns of text. One column in Dutch, one in German, one in English. To say this is a "light treatment" is an understatement. A wonderful city such as Prague deserves far better.
The city map faintly printed on the cover is BETTER than the sloppy black and white map (with many placenames in Dutch - how helpful!) inside the guide.
I'd give 2 stars to this cd for just some simple liner notes about the music - but no dice.
I learned from my mistake after buying this cd, and did a search for Czech (versus Prague) on Amazon instead. THAT is the route to go if you're after the musical flavor of Prague. (I highly recommend "Czeching In")
