5 out of 5 stars Excellence!.......2007-04-22

These recordings range back to 1994, with a number of tracks being from Silva Screen's "Music from the Films of Clint Eatwood" compilation, with Derek Wadsworth conducting the City of Prague Philharmonic.

Those tracks are: "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly", "A Fistful of DOllars", "For a Few Dollars More", and "Two Mules for Sister Sara". "In The Line Of Fire' also appeared on that CD, performed electronically by Mark Ayres.

The next bunch of tracks is from Silva Screen's 1996 compilation, "Cinema Paradise: The Classic Film Music of Ennio Morricone", which included the majority of tracks here such as the extensive The Mission Suite, The Untouchables, Casulaties of War, Once Upon a Time In America, 1900, Chi Mai, Marco Polo, Once Upon a Time In The West (two tracks), Cinema Paradise, and The Good the Bad and the Ugly - Ecstacy of Gold, mostly being conducted by Paul Bateman, with Nic Raine doing some of the conducting duties as well.

Hamlet is from Silva's 1997 "Cinema's Classic Romances" compilation, while "The Thing" is from Silva's 2001 "Essential John Carpenter".

A Fistful of Dynamite - Duck You Sucker is from 2002's Way Out West: Essential Western Film Music Collection Volume Two.

The remaing tracks were newly recorded in 2004 for this release:
Days of Heaven, Exorcist II, Guns for San Sebastian, Moses the Lawgiver, My Name is Nobody, The Five Man Army, The Red Tent, The Men From Shiloh and The Sicilian Clan.

Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars "his domain of film scoring is legendary ~ Ennio Morricone".......2004-10-07

Silva America once again has outdone themselves with "Once Upon A Time:The Essential Ennio Morricone Film Music Collection", a double disc collection worth their weight in GOLD! ~ Morricone creates visual moods for each film he scores...action, adventure, mystery, romance, sentimental and suspense...the list could go on.

Ennio Morricone was born in Rome on October 11, 1928...attended the Santa Cecilia Conservatory...worked in various jazz bands, later a staff arranger and composer...an orchestrator in the '50s...scored films in the early '60s, then the WESTERNS and his name became a household word in the film industry ~ a new kind of western was on the horizon and Morricone was commissioned to score "A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS" [1964] for Sergio Leone featuring Clint Eastwood, spaghetti westerns were born ~ next "FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE" [1965] ~ and a bigger budget film "THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY" [1966], again featuring Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef and a third Eli Wallach whose performance was magical to watch on the big screen ~ violence and revenge gives Morricone an opportunity to feature electric guitars, flutes and jew's harp blending with a non lyrical chorus mixed with brass, strings, percussion with full orchestration that simply took your breath away...example is "ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST" [1968], featuring Henry Fonda, Claudia Cardinale, Jason Robards and our hero Charles Bronson the mysterious harmonica player, director Sergio Leone's tribute to the American Western, pulled out all the stops ~ the Western was just a small part of Maestro Morricone's career, in the next paragraph take a gander of just what our icon of film music accomplished.

Our composer didn't stop there as "ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA" [1984], featuring Robert De Niro, James Woods and Elizabeth McGovern, another Sergio Leone film..."THE MISSION" [1986], featuring Robert De Niro, Jeremy Irons and Aldan Quinn, is probably one of Morricone's crowning scores receiving an Academy Award nomination, very haunting and classical genre in substance..."THE UNTOUCHABLES" [1987], featuring Kevin Costner, Sean Connery and Robert De Niro during the Al Capone '30s crime organization, Morricone conjures a powerful and dynamic arrangement of his unmistakable theme..."CINEMA PARADISO" [1988], featuring Phillippe Noiret, Antonella Attili and Pupella Maggio from director Giuseppe Tomatore as he recalls his early childhood, the score immediately captures your heart, so tender and compelling as Morricone can only deliver.

City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra featuring conductors Kenneth Alwyn, Paul Bateman, James Fitzpatrick, Nic Raine, Derek Wadsworth ~ Crouch End Festival Chorus featuring Choir Master David Temple ~ vocals performed by Charlotte Kinder, Marie Kopecka and Jill Washington ~ guitar, percussion and keyboards performed by Gareth Williams ~ all in all did a magnicent job in bringing the music of a composer who wrote for over 250 films, receiving recognition from the industry and fans which was long over-due ~ his work is in constant demand, scoring as many as over a half dozen films as year.

This collection contains an overlay of each cue in Morricone's distinctive style of legendary scoring ~ the man who made this possible, a tremendous asset to every project he undertakes is James Fitzpatrick [producer of the album] ~ symphonic suites with full orchestra fullfilling the "film-score-buffs" cravings for more of the same, just the way we like 'em!

5 out of 5 stars The Italian Renascence.......2007-06-24

With his impassioned enunciation of the Italian lyrics and his very dramatic music, Ferro has succeeded in achieving in this album what the insipid American-dominated world of popular music has long waited for - an Italian Renascence.

5 out of 5 stars Seen-yoh-ray Teetz-ee-ah-no, would you be so kind as to sing a few of your subjunctive verses for the class?.......2006-08-13

Eleven very entertaining songs -- one in duet with the best-selling Italian recording artist Biagio Antonacci (it works) -- make a worthwhile purchase. If you have listened to Tiziano's other two albums to date, the sound is similiar, though -- as stated here on amazon -- more mature. Some of them have a more electronic sound, but -- again as stated above -- the whole album cannot be characterized as "electronic." TZN's passionate voice is strong in each recording, from the laments to the aggressive dance-floor rhythms. Three songs fit the dance category: STOP! Dimentica, E Raffaella e' mia, and Baciano le donne. I'm generally NOT a techno fan, or a dance music fan (exceptions are the many classics like "Superfreak"). I love the Italian language, and, as I've stated in my other "reviews" of Italian recording artists, the lyrics are enunciated (studenti d'italiano!), passionate, and fun (despite the melancholy themes/tone of many of them). The lyrics are all listed, in Italian, in the accompanying insert-booklet. Tracks are:

Tarantola d'Africa -- Ti scattero' una foto -- Ed ero contentissimo -- STOP! Dimentica -- E fuori e' buio -- Salutandotiaffogo -- E Raffaella e' mia -- La paura che... -- Baciano le donne (feat. Biagio Antonacci) -- Gia' ti guarda Alice -- Mio fratello

And let the CD play through to the very end as you will hear a hidden track with a very young Tiziano (he dates the recording at 1987) practicing a song. Though charming, his voice doesn't sound very promising. I guess Ferro's success should be all the more encouraging to parents with budding vocalists.

N.B.: To find the lowest price, Amazon patrons must often be creative with their search techniques. Try artist name alone, artist and keyword in title box, even try a possible mispelling if you can't find what you're looking for. Data entry mistakes are inevitable when there are millions of products offered and pressure on staff to enter the info quickly.

NESSUNO E' SOLO (and the other two CD-albums (and some CD-singles) by Ferro are also available in SPANISH LANGUAGE versions here on amazon.com.

This double-disc treat covers Morricone's work from 1965 to 1995 and contains mostly never-before-released material from 40 different motion pictures, many of which demonstrate his quirkier side. Many are from less-known films like To Forget Palermo and What Am I Doing in the Middle of the Revolution? But there are also more famous tracks like the main titles to Cinema Paradiso and My Name Is Nobody as well as the haunting "Chi Mai" from Maddalena. Though best known for his much-imitated and oppressively cute spaghetti-Western themes, Morricone here demonstrates his much more intriguing romantic and melancholic sides. His title song to Farewell to Moscow is among his saddest and menacing works and, like several other selections, can be the preferred antidote to Prozac. --Joseph Lanza

Italian Soprano Renata Tebaldi was One of the Most Important Post-war Sopranos to Tackle a Wide Range of Puccini Roles, and During the 1950s She Recorded Several Complete Opera Recordings. Some of the Operas were Recorded Twice — in Mono and Then in Stereo. Amongst Those which Tebaldi Committed to Disc in the Recording Studio on Two Occasions Must Be Included La Bohème and Madama Butterfly. It is the Earlier, Mono Recordings of These Two Operas which Are Included Here and They Reveal a Fresh-voiced Tebaldi in Recordings Which, Despite the Stereo Remakes, have Stood the Test of Time.

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Excellent introduction to Tebaldi's art.......2005-09-29

This set covers the entire productive years of Tebaldi's recording career. Turandot, Butterfly and Boheme are from her earlier career while Tosca is from her later career. Since this Tosca recording is now out of print and is somewhat hard to find, this recording itself almost worth the cost of the set. In Turandot, you will find Tebaldi at her fresher voice, lovely and melting. Eventhough I would still rate Callas' first recorded Tosca as my first choice, this Tosca comes very close. Enjoy.

    5 out of 5 stars Wonderfull.......2005-08-19

Fantastic recordings at a very good price. Tebaldi and Del Monaco rule. You should definetely own this set.

    5 out of 5 stars Classic Renata.......2005-03-16

To say that these 12 disks contain some of the finest singing ever committed to disk is no exaggeration, but a simple statement of fact. Historical fact. In the 100 years (more or less) that Puccini operas have been around, only a few sopranos in each generation have been the equal of Renata Tebaldi. One cannot objectively say that anyone has surpassed her. Some opera lovers find her peerless in many of these performances. Personal tastes in singers vary, but no one ever sang these roles better. Few anywhere nearly so well. There is not a single note on any of these recordings that is not heartfelt to the core of her being. Like Maria Callas and Franco Corelli, she was luminous, gargantuan in her talent that personified an age. This is one of the great compilations.

2 out of 5 stars Remembering Past Enchantments And Past Ills.......2004-06-07

Few composers outside of the classical canon have expressed the ineffable as beautifully as Ennio Morricone. The Italian Morricone, who has written scores of wildly varying quality for over 400 films, came to international prominence with and is still best - known in America for his "Spaghetti Western" scores of several classic Sergio Leone films of the Sixties, such as A Fistful of Dollars (1964), The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly (1966), and Once Upon A Time In The West (1969).

With the Leone scores, Morricone created musical pieces structured like complex mathematical equations, many of which were suffused with a driving, hypnotic, and archetypal power. In fact, the soundtrack for The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly was so dramatically dynamic that it thoroughly outstripped the finished film in terms of imaginative potential. Only with Once Upon A Time In The West did Leone create a film well crafted and realized enough to match Morricone's entrancing, playful, and occasionally perditious score. Similarly, Dario Argento's The Bird With The Crystal Plumage (1969) almost completely failed to utilize Morricone's contribution, the best portions of which were heard only dimly and sporadically in the finished film. Leone's late masterpiece, Once Upon A Time In America (1984), two - thirds a perfect film, also failed to fully rise to the occasion of Morricone's simultaneously poignant, wistful, and wonderfully exuberant score.

Today, Morricone's work is available on literally hundreds of soundtracks and soundtrack compilations dedicated to the composer, very few of which are entirely satisfying. An Ennio Morricone Anthology (1995), which contains 45 tracks from 39 films produced in Italy from 1965 onward, perpetuates this frustrating tradition.

Of the 45 tracks, about a third represent Morricone realizing or approaching the height of his talent, another third are fairly interesting but ultimately repetitious and self-cannibalizing, and the final third, which may have worked reasonably well within the context of the films they were written for, never rise above the status of shrill, discordant, and bellowing kitsch (several attempt a Henry Mancini - like levity and fall flat). In fact, there is a great deal of healthy, raw, and leveling vulgarity even in some of Morricone's most famous compositions, such as "Le Vent, Le Cri" from 1981's The Professional and "Chi Mai" from 1971's Maddalena, both of which are included.

Those seeking haunting compositions on the scale of "L'Estasi Dell 'Oro" or "Il Triello" from The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly or "Poverty" from Once Upon A Time In America will be disappointed to find very few pieces approaching their caliber here, especially if already familiar with such well - known pieces such as "Moscow Farewell" from the 1987 film of the same name or the otherworldly "Il Gatto A Nove Code" from The Cat O' Nine Tails (1971).

As compositions of vastly different quality are interspersed amongst one another in dizzying array, many may find An Ennio Morricone Anthology virtually impossible to listen to from beginning to end without skipping tracks repeatedly. As a genius whose greatest compositions address both the immanent and the transcendent, both perdition and salvation, both the archaic and the modern, Morricone and his admirers deserve a more carefully selected and thoughtfully produced anthology than this haphazard collection offers.

5 out of 5 stars Delightful scores from Ennio Morricone.......1998-12-19

Few composers in film music today are as greatly admired as Ennio Morricone whose scores for a wide range of screen fares and many Oscar nominations and wins have attracted the attention of fans all over the world. This compilation is one of the best and contains very fine original musics and rare tracks of this Italian composer.

Forget about the stupid classic Italian songs, here we've got the best hip-hop bands in the World. You cannot understand what Articolo 31 did for the Italian music, they changed every rule and every way to think about Italian music. If you buy this album you will get their best album. Even J Ax and DJ Jad said that this is their best album. You don't need to understand italian to buy this CD, the only thing you need to do is listening. You can find amazing songs, for example "Non c'e' sveglia" (my favourite), "Nessuno", "Buon Sangue non Mente" and many others. The lyrics talk about the problems we have in this World. They hate people who are ready to sell themselves just to earn some extra money. They also hate who is ready to make compromises just to became famous. If you understand Italian, you can find all this things in the song "Nessuno". This is a great CD, where Italian sounds get together with american sounds. Maybe you don't know this, but they recorded this album in New York, with the help of american rappers. You can also find other authors in this album, for example Gemelli Diversi. And, by the way, J Ax and his brother (a member of Gemelli Diversi) sing togheter in "Buon Sangue Non Mente". They talk about the pride to come from their land and from their family, the Aleotti family. E PER FINIRE, SOLO UN ACCENNO PER DIRVI CHE SIETE I PIU' GRANDI, CONTINUATE COSI E FATE VEDERE CHE IL MIGLIOR HIP-HOP E' QUELLO ITALIANO, E NESSUNO PUO' METTERLO IN DUBBIO!!!

      5 out of 5 stars Ragtime Rap!!.......2000-12-08

I just have to say that I am totally in love with this album. I fell in love with "La Fidanzta" while it was number one on the Italian charts while I was there a couple of years ago. The song combines charleston ragtime music with rap....I don't think I've ever heard anything so original, pleasant, intriguing and catchy all at the same time!! I bought it at a little music store in Rome, and I haven't stopped listening to it since. I would recommend it highly. You don't need to be able to speak or understand Italian to know exactly what is going on, and really, Articolo 31 really proves that music is the universal language. I can't wait to get their other albums!

      5 out of 5 stars bravisssimi.......1999-11-25

This is the best ever Italian rap c.d. You MUST get this c.d even if you don't like rap and can't understand a word of Italian. This is their greatest c.d yet and they never repeat themselves. Their music is original, cool and talkes about serious stuff in life.Every one can relate to their music. SIETE BELLISSIMI E BRAVISSSIMI!

5 out of 5 stars Italian Rap 101.......1999-11-02

An incredible album, for anyone interested in Italian Rap, this is the first album you should buy. Even better than their previous three albums, DJ Jad shows off his knack for innovative sampling with old notable Italian songs. J-Ax's flow (dope in general) is especially impressive on Il Mondo Dove Vivo. Tons of feel good tunes, especially Fidanzata and Venerdi. If you understand Italian, check Nessuno and Come uno su mille, they just make you think. However, regardless of whether you understand Italian or not, it is worth buying (I learned Italian through listening to music).

      5 out of 5 stars Grandiosi.......1999-04-29

This group is fantastic... I've never listen better before them! Please don't stop, continue again and again and again You make people happy and you help them to understand or to support hard things of life.
