Bait & Switch?.......2006-11-30
This is an atrocious album, and fortunately I didn't pay much for it. Most of the arrangements are mediocre at best, and two of the songs are not even the songs they claim to be.
The first is Track #1 which they call "El Jarabe Tapatio"... This bears NO resemblence to the traditional version at all, in fact I don't know WHAT version this is. Further down they list the "Jarabe Mexicano" which as it turns out IS the traditional one. I've never heard it called that.
But my biggest gripe is the track listed as "La LLorona." This is one of the main reasons I bought this album, and I don't know how they get away with calling it that. It is ABSOLUTELY NOT the famous song, and in fact even the words don't mention "llorona" at all. Where the hell did their version come from?
I know what I'm talking about here. I may not be Mexican but I was born and raised in Mexico, and this is the music I grew up with.
All in all a bad album. I guess you get what you pay for, but in this case I think I got even less than that. Stay away and save your money.

Customer Reviews:
Great performance, poor sound.......2000-07-31
This disc is made from old '78 discs and the sound is pretty poor. There are versions of most of these pieces on other discs which are just as good or better than the performances here. The exception is the Roy Harris Symphony No. 1. A Louisville Orchestra recording has been made available, but, even considering the poor sound, this is better by far. For Harris fanatics, like me, it is a must.
mind-boggling.......2000-03-29
I listened to this CD last week. It was about 11pm.And what a revelation! I was totally absorbed by the music. I stopped my desk work to listen to it. Though the pieces were recorded between 1938 to 1946, the power of the conductor makes you forget the less than perfect sonics. I liked the whole CD from Copland`s A.Spring to Sousa`s famous Stars and Stars March. The music comes alive through crisp rhythms and wonderful tension. Reminds you of Stokowski and Mengelberg. Highly recommended.

Viva Mariachi Los Camperos.......2000-08-02
This album was the first released from this group, and was very impressive. The articulations and harmonies that intrepreted are quite melodious, and give a true definition to the mariachi genre. Anyone that curious about Mariachi music should listen to this album, I guareentee that you will fall in love with at least one of the songs. As for those that are already intrested in the genre, you definatly want to have this album in your collection.
