About the Artist
"The intention is to bring together the worlds that collide in our stereos at home. We listen to quite a variety of styles because we just love ’em and because of our influences we find it relatively easy to lay them over solid reggae grooves and bass lines. This has always been our vibe " comments Rage, the band’s charismatic frontman. The band was formed in 1998 and emerged on to the reggae scene, performing worldwide on opening slots for artists such as Jimmy Cliff and Inner Circle in addition to being invited onto legendary reggae trio Culture’s spring 2000 tour. Their 1999 self- titled first release was received with rave reviews and not only earned them the # 7 slot on Billboard’s Reggae Chart during the first week of release but also got them critical recognition in Billboards’ Spotlight Review as the band to watch for 1999 alongside classical great Yo Yo Ma.

During their 1999 world tour Temple Yard had the pleasure of representing the USA at the first Anniversary Commemoration of the US Embassy bombing in Nairobi Kenya where they headlined and delivered an electrifying performance to a captive audience of over five thousand. While there the group visited the Masai Mara wildlife reserve and even got to meet some of the Masai people of that region. Their 1999 world tour also included concert performances in Jamaica, the Netherlands and ended in the winter of 2000 with an exhaustive run of thirteen concerts done in ten days through the islands of Hawaii.

As long as the stalemate between Prince "Symbol" Nelson and Warner persisted, there was no way to tell who was right: were the vaunted unreleased tracks inferior efforts, better left in the can, or, were they great songs, unwisely repressed? Now that the impasse has been broken--Nelson has left Warner and started his own label, NPG--the answer is clear. Nelson's first post-Warner release, "Emancipation," offers three full hours of music on 3 CDs, and none of it seems extraneous. Instead, every disc contains some of the catchiest melodies and most danceable rhythms of Nelson's career. It's as if a dam had cracked and a flood of pent-up creativity had been unleashed. --Geoffrey Himes

Album Description

Prince's first album after leaving Warner Brothers. Originally released in 1996, this three CD set runs exactly three hours which easily makes it one of the longest albums of all-new original material ever released by a popular artist. Long deleted in the States. Standard triple jewel case. EMI.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars This? Indulgent?.......2007-07-03

This three-hour, thirty-six song triple album is my favorite Prince release - and yes, I've heard Purple Rain, Sign o' the Times, 1999 and Dirty Mind. All are good to great. This tops 'em all. Think of it like this: 36 tracks, and out of the 36, one filler. Holy frig.
The best thing about Emancipation, other than the song quality (which is very high) is the variety. Prince touches on several styles of music here: funk (Jam of the Year, Get Yo Groove On, We Gets Up, Damned if I Do, In This Bed I Scream, Sex in the Summer, Joint 2 Joint, Slave, Emancipation), ballads, sometimes with huge climactic endings (The Holy River, my favorite Prince song EVER, Let's Have a Baby, I Can't Make U Love Me, Friend Lover Sister Mother/Wife, Soul Sanctuary, with an amazing falsetto, Saviour, a stunning religious song), old-school R&B (La-La-La Means I Love You, Betcha By Golly Wow - both covers of Philly Soul classics given stunning rearrangements), rap (Da Da Da, the only loser, White Mansion, Style, emale), even a bit of big-band jazz (Courtin' Time) and house music (most of disc 3). How many other artists have released an album this varied? Not even The White Album reaches that level of variety, though it comes close. (This is a bit of an aside, but the only artist I can think of who's explored more styles than Prince is Zappa). He even makes What If God Was One of Us sound good, okay? Yes, the same What If God Was One of Us that inspired all kinds of parodies, from the Bob Rivers parody right down to my cousin's version, "What if I was one of us!" I thought that song was a piece of toxic waste until I heard Prince's cover. Good stuff.
Yet another reason why I love Emancipation is because of Prince's musicianship. He plays most of the instruments, as always: Guitar, bass, keyboards and drums, as well as obviously singing, and his guitar solos throughout are well worth listening to. Every guitar solo is good.
What can I say? Prince is the man. This might cost you quite a bit (then again, because of the joy of used record stores I got my copy for a mere $11.99 - a bargain!) This is a concept album of sorts, or at least the second disc is, as it deals with Prince's marriage and how happy he was with it. I like the music Prince makes when he's happily married.
Another point I'd like to make is that I love this album's liner notes. If there's a Grammy award for "best liner notes", I hope this took the '96 award home.
P.S. My absolute favorite songs on it are Jam of the Year, Get Yo' Groove On, Courtin' Time, Betcha By Golly Wow!, We Gets Up, Mr. Happy, In This Bed I Scream, Sex in the Summer, Dreamin' About U, Joint 2 Joint, The Holy River, Let's Have a Baby, Saviour, The Plan, Friend Lover Sister Mother/Wife, Slave, The Human Body, La-La Means I Love You and Emancipation. And that's just the metaphorical tip of the figuarative iceburg.

.

LIKE THE PASSIONATE PRINCELY PURPLE PUNCTUATION
POINT
Triple disk
First disk:Ain't nothing but a party
The first disc is pure party music uptempo joyful in its emancipation from the Warner monopoly

Hendrix had to take the hard way out of his contract with
Warners- death. THe orignial gangster way

THe Purple Punctuation legalized it, and here are his basement tapes and rooftop rave-ups that he kept hiding while cranking out contractual
obligations for Warners like the very dark Come. Now he is free and happy and the first disc ain't nothing but a party and that won't do you no harm; it's all upscale party music, including the Manhattan Transfer style
Courtin Life. In fact, like Musicology this whole trip shows Mister Nelson experimenting and mastering several different pop and jazz styles

THe second disk is more like soft rock, soft ballads, and folk country rock. Take a listen to Holy River. SOunds like a seventies uptempo pseudo-Bob Dylan. Hear it again. What's that song it sounds like, only here better? And on that second disc: The final cut. Keep that one roilling all
night long: Friend Sister, mother wife great song the more you hear the more you hear and then the great green mother sea. See all things, my brother. Oh,yeah, and his favorite prom night covers: BEtcha ByGolly Wow
(the hard techno angry disk three is relieved by Lalalalala means I love you). Also folkrock. Think I'll rest and hear it again.

Disc three is a trip, angry loving, lovely, check it all out. IN fact it is hard to characterize each disk as Prince never settles into one groove but jumps from one to the next- variety, and masters them all. Side three starts with three strong techno rock tunes that shook the world
six years ago but feel old now. But hear the words to Slave and you will understand. SOunds like Amistad all over again.

HEar and smile with Style, pure poetry of metaphor, and the pothead guy responding correctly to the passing taxi cab. But great metaphor throughout.

Prince is a genius and a master of word and music. Great vocabulary, and I do not see any need to mark this album "explicit" Ain't nothing here your mama don't know.Nothing you won't find in JAmes JOyce, not even that strong, and he got banned in NEw YOrk.

Then DADADA is a whole lot better than the title indicates, making you think of those recent wordless dance tunes. This is a guest speaker telling the truth about our reality today, a young man looking for a job in the face of no hope. Prince's half of the rap comes back with the only hope lies in love, which leads to the next two hymns. The next two tunes One of Us and the Love You Make are really powerful Theology. Listen to them again. One of Us reports the incarnation of Love among us.Try listening to the Other without crying. THe Love you make is pure slow
gospel with killer guitar (how that little man play such good tasteful powerful restrained guitar?? ANd with no producer to hold him?) Cry this song and have a spiritual rebirth. Keep it on all night long and you
will wake up free and refreshed and renewed in the spirit of love. SEriously It's title by the way indicates this side parallels the final BEatles album Abbey Road, as this is the final punctuation point album. Starts out rocking and ends up even more meaningful and melodic How is this guy producing himself without getting self-indulgent, but always
professional and masterfullike no one since the first or second Hendrix album? But mastering ALL the instruments, and the lyrics, always a riot, a joke.

Check out the "pothead" onStyle, the funniest song there is, but also the most, well, stylish Some great music to make babies by, and read the linernotes, which are half the fun, like back in thesixties. Prince has an incredible vocabulary musically, instrumentally, as well as literacy and politically. And here he's just glad to be free, and alive, and kissing. Watch out you might learn something here. Feels more heartfelt and angry than the more matureand settled (but still cranking) Musicology, but he was still a younger man here. Now if we could only emancipate the entire USA from the Bechtel-Halliburton-GOP-military-health
care corporation, we might just get happy too.

Meanwhile turn on disk one. Ain't nothing but a party, baby. How's
Prince do it all? They never got him hooked and burned out on drugs? He cleverly mentions addictionshere, but only as another metaphor for love. And of course "Let's get out of here: I smell like an ashtray" When's
the last time you heard that old joke? somewhere hidden in there is a great curtis mayfield kinda song Curtis MAyfield style vocals. I could've sworn that was a later Curtis tune he was cranking.

THat techno-rock Human Body must have kept a whole lot of joints shaking
the walls in lower Manhattan six years ago. Feels a little dated now, but there's plenty here for everyone- a triple disk at this price? Why buy anything else?

Basically this disk is an excuse for the final Christian ROck stadium anthem The Love YOu Make. Play it all night long and you will see the punctuation point play something from the heart (or not?). THe rest is his usual irony and humor, like White Mansion- funny stuff about capitalist corporate music - what- no publishing rights? ANd that sanctuary song- well that just gets goofy towards the end. Dig it.

But give another listen or a thousand times to that Holy River on Disc Two ("II") and you would swear, with Love You Make, that this is a Christian rock countrified album. I can't believe he's being ironic here. IT sounds real, a call to conversion to You KNow Who, and leave behind the things that make you cry. Listen deep to this one, and step back for rapture at the end as the Dickie Betts Southern Rock double guitar tears it up. Check out the Dylan voice, as he too was famous for his rebirth in Christianity, and so gave the Purple Punctuation Point permission to craft his own songs around the same theme. Prince pays props where due.

4 out of 5 stars Doses.......2006-10-25

People all over the internet have been saying this album works in doses and that each individual disc is like a completely different album. So I picked the third thinking that it would be the best because I personally think that the funk days of prince were his best. Well it was a great disc with a track that should have been discarded right off the bat. Here is a track to track breakdown.

Slave: this one is good except for it has the same drumbeat as IT on the great Sign O' the times album. 7/10

New World: Good pop song i like the chours and it makes my rump shake. 9/10

Human Body: the first great one. I love the opening and the soothing chours. 10/10

Face Down: Wow two in a row that hit it out of the ballpark I like that prince did something new here i like the weird samples. 10/10

La (Means I Love You): Well you could argueably say this is the most gay of his tracks but you could also say it was one of his best vocal performances. It has a nice chours. 8/10

Style: Avoid at all costs. Don't let anyone here this 8:54 second track (it isn't that long but it feels like it) it feels like a discarded track from his awsome love symbol album. 3/10

Sleep Around: This actually does run about 8 minutes but i can handle it because it has such a cool melody. 9/10

Da, Da, Da: This one has some really cool rapping on it. 7/10

My Computer: Reminds me of something of Chaos and Disorder. 9/10

One of Us: Well........1,211,221,021,212,211/10

Love: Well when I hear this track I feel as if i'm back in the olden days. 10/10

Emancipation:well this one grooves and i feel like i'm in a small town on this track but it kinds of over repeats itself and it gets abit annoying.5/10

Overall an amazing album. Go buy it at a half price store. It's worth it. It makes you nicer if you have that extra money.
This album deserves a solid score of 8/10.

3 out of 5 stars Overkill.......2006-04-12

It's 1996, and Prince is in love, married to his then-wife Mayte and finally free from his contract with Warner Brothers that had previously become so embittered that he took to performing with "slave" written on his face. To celebrate wedded bliss and artistic freedom, Prince released his largest collection of music ever, "Emancipation".

Somewhere in this 3-disc, 36-track set lies a decent Prince album. It just happens to be hidden by a lot of bland filler (as well as the hideous art direction of the cover artwork - yuck). For every song that's a gem, there are 2 that are unremarkable and unnecessary. The tone of the whole album is soulful, upbeat and sunny, but for the most part the experimental and rebellious qualities of his earlier work are gone, leaving most of the music seeming kind of neutered. With track after track, Prince declares his love, his happiness, and his unitarian spirituality ... it's sweet, but boy does it get boring after 36 songs.

My recommendation? Rip the following tracks to MP3 and create a leaner, more solid "Emancipation" album with the following songs:
1. Jam of the Year
2. Right Back Here in my Arms
3. Courtin' Time
4. Betcha By Golly Wow
5. Sex in the Summer
6. Curious Child
7. Joint to Joint
8. Slave
9. The Human Body
10. Sleep Around

Early buzz on The Emancipation of Mimi predicted that this would be the disc to mark "the return of the voice"--the voice being that glass-shattering instrument that propelled Carey to bestselling female artist of all time status--and mostly it is. But because of the small army of talent involved in its assembly, the album is way more than just a comeback vehicle. For proof, try straight-ahead, look-out-Beyonce-Mimi's-still-got-it "Mine Again," or '70s-soul cuddle-up, "Circles:" a don't-attempt-on-American-Idol love song, or the gospel dazzlers "Fly Like a Bird," and "Stay the Night." But for songs that steer this disc directly into 2005, no looking back, scan the jewel case for the tracks followed by the word "featuring": "To the Floor," with Nelly, bumps along to maximum booty-shaking effect, while Twista spins his natural-disaster-force vocals into "One and Only." Snoop Dogg, Pharrell Williams, and Jermaine Dupri also pitch in; between them and the highwire vocals, Emancipation works the kind of pure-pop magic that sets us all free. --Tammy La Gorce

5 out of 5 stars Mariah Never Left.......2007-08-02

Being a huge fan of Mariah Carey's music, this may read like a biased review of her "comeback" album. Regardless, it is my opinion that the Emancipation of Mimi is one her best ever in the sense that it is an eclectic mix of different styles targeting a wider variety of audience.

Mariah never "left" as many have alleged; her voice has always been there. It is just that the delivery was not packaged so well in her most recent outing. This album, however does a great job of showcasing her incredible talents.

From the opening tune of "It's Like That" through the mega-hit ballad "We belong together" and the catchy "Shake it off", this album takes the listener along a fantastic ride of musical joy. My other favorites on this album include "Stay the Night" and "Circles". The gospel-themed "Fly Like A Bird" and the sweet, sentimental "Don't Forget About Us" (added in the re-release version) are some of the other prominent selections.

With "The Emancipation of Mimi", Mariah continues to show exactly how music can and should be made.

5 out of 5 stars WOW!!! Awesome, Classy, Enjoyable.......2007-08-02

Mandisa, excellent job! Showing her ability to sing several different genres of music and make them all sound great. The music really speaks to the heart. With emphasis on Love, this True Beauty used her vocals to teach, encourage, and inspire.

4 out of 5 stars Classy..........2007-07-31

I Remember when this Album first came out in spring 2005. I was totally Addicted to it. I remember having to choose between either Jennifer Lopez's "Rebirth" or this Album. I see I made the right choice.

As soon as I put the CD in the player and pressed play, I was Hooked. I chose this CD because of the Album's First single "It's Like That". The song is just a great slow Party song. It's definetly the Classiest song on the Album, and as Always she sounds great. I just love the beat. It sounds pretty ordinary, but then the chorus comes on, and it's just great. My fave track.

"We Belong Together" is also a perfect slow jam R'n'B number. I got addicted to this song too. It's one of her best R'n'B songs. Her Voice just fits this song well, and because her voice and the music match, it's a pleasure to listen to. I love the sound, and I remember it got played on radio everywhere. I do think as a hit it was Overrated, and preffered "It's Like That", but the song did deserve the air play it got. I Love the chorus. The best part of the song is at the end where her voice gets stronger.

"Shake It Off" was catchy, and a good choice for a single. I love the beat, and think it's a fun hip hop song. I Also loved "Get Your Number" because it was a fun song, I think it's one of the best on the album, and one of the more upbeat.

I Also liked the ballads "Circles", "Mine Again" and "Joy Ride" because her voice sounds great, and the songs give Mariah a chance to really belt her voice. They sound very well done, and posh. "Joy Ride" is more of a slow jam, but is one of the better R'n'B Love Ballads on the disc. It's a pretty sugary song. The other two tracks are very sophisticated and classy. They are the songs that compliment her vocals best on the album, and are the major voice ballads.

The other songs are good too, but I just wanted to comment on my favourites. I love this Album, because I can just pop it in the CD Player, and listen from start to finish. It is a very relaxing album, with a blend of Pop, R'n'B and Jazz songs. I Just really Enjoy listening to this Album. It's one of her better ones.

Another of my favourite tracks is the closer "Fly Like A Bird". Here we find Mariah returning to her gospel routes, and it is one of the best songs on the album. Her vocals are backed by a choir, and have never been better. They soar on this song. There are also snippets of Martin Luther King in the song. The Lyrics are also really great, and uplifting. "Somehow I know that there's a place up above. The world, and struggeling. Free of all atrocities and suffering. Because I feel that unconditional Love, from one who cares enough for me, to erase all my worries and let me be free, to Fly Like A Bird. Take To The Sky. I need you now Lord. Carry me high. don't let the world wake me tonight. I need the strength of you to survive". The song ends this great Album, on a high note.

In my oppinion this is Mimi's best record of the 21st Century. Her most Sophisticated and Classiest Record. It doesn't recapture the glory of past records like "Daydream" or "Butterfly", but it's a different type of Album. After one Flop album, and one that didn't do as well as she would have liked, Mimi finally regains her crown with this Album, and finally finds her Freedom....This is Mimi's Emancipation, and Crowning Glory.

5 out of 5 stars I'm addicted to this cd.......2007-07-30

I love the r & b tracks. She is so fly. The ballads are so so; they are not as good as her earlier work. If you're looking for classic Mariah, this is not the album for you. I love it.

4 out of 5 stars Music Library of Sonya Armfield.......2007-07-09

I love Mariah. I didn't give this album 5 stars, because while I think its good, its not her best. Still, she is one of my favorite singers.

5 out of 5 stars 5 STARS!!!!!.......2007-06-07

I love this album and it is really sad that people are sleeping on it (lol it is six times platinum). This is a complete album that you can listen to from beginning to end. Mariah really did a great job of showing how talented she really is. It is a mixture of everything, this cd is up beat yet laid back, and it's a classic. This is her best album in my opinion and I can't wait for the next one.

MY TOP FIVE (This was a tough selection process b/c the entire album is great)

1. Joy Ride
2. Mine Again
3. Circles
4. Say Something
5. Fly Like a Bird

3 out of 5 stars Good, but Mariah screams too much for my tastes here........2007-05-31

I'm gonna start off by also saying that we all shouldn't deny that Mariah's voice isn't what it was back when her first couple of albums were released. It's not bad, but it has waned a bit.

The only songs I skip sometimes aren't even bad. It's just sometimes Mariah gets the yelling (Circles, Stay The Night) and I have to skip 'em.

If you don't have ANY of Mariah's albums though (who wouldn't have at least one?) I would start with either Emotions or Daydream. But if you like your R&B music, then get this one. If you do get this one, make sure it's the Platinum Edition because the extra songs are worth it. The only reason I could see someone getting the original Emancipation is for the beautiful cover which is superior to this one. But don't both look great?!

Some highlights are Shake It Off, One And Only, Your Girl, Fly Like A Bird, Don't Forget About Us and Makin' It Last All Night (What It Do).

This CD has it's highlights but it isn't her best.

I hope you enjoyed my review. Have a look at my others if you would like.

3 1/2 stars. ^_~

4 out of 5 stars Mariah Stepped Her Game Up!!!.......2007-02-28

Mariah stepped her game up from her last 2 albums and the buzz was definitely worth it. The first half of the album is good and the end was good, but the middle is a bunch of fillers. "Fly Like A Bird" is definitely the best track you kinda get a feel of the old Mariah back it the 90's. Great job and can't wait for the next album.

5 out of 5 stars Great PURCHASE!.......2007-02-13

THIS CD HAS TO BE ONE OF THE BEST CD'S THAT MARIAH HAS MADE IN A LONG WHILE. GREAT QUALITY, PRICE, AND IT ARRIVED QUICK...THANKS!

5 out of 5 stars Interstellar travel in your headphones........2007-05-31

Well, Stargate SG.1 has finally ended after 10 seasons, and this soundtrack CD covers only the first two. I think there's room for a new CD or two, and hopefully the Stargate SG.1 people will get around to creating one.

Anyway, I've listened to this CD once so far and I was very impressed. The music really is enjoyable on its own, and I found myself listening to the Cold Lazerus music twice before I continued throught the rest of the CD.

Finally, don't think there isn't much music on this CD because of the small nunber of tracks. Many of these tracks are six to ten minutes long.

5 out of 5 stars Stargate Music Album.......2007-05-12

Great CD throughout. It's a shame the show is being cancelled after 10 years but this music helps to keep the memory on.

3 out of 5 stars Not as good as the 1st Music release.......2004-10-24

The best of Stargate SG-1 is infact a 9 track compilation of the 1st 2 seasons of the TV show. It's really not the best of Stargate. I rather enjoyed the 1st release namely called Music of Stargate SG-1 and the actual movie music-score. However I still enjoyed the music from several episodes of the 2nd season, most notable being the music suite of Hathor.

A fan of the TV show should be pleasantly surprised by the suites in this CD. It won't disapoint.

5 out of 5 stars one for the fans.......2004-05-07

This CD is really one for the fans. If you've not watched Stargate SG-1 before, then it will be very limited in its' appeal.
I personally enjoyed the CD, as I could relate the music back to the particular episodes in which they appeared. Some of the tracks are sweet and melodic, others are more ominious, so it doesn't come up short on variety.
The music sounds, for the most part, rather sythesised (which is why, if you are used to sprawling epic soundtracks from mainstram movies, I generally don't recommend this if you have never watched the show). Tracks are usually a mixture of synthesised sounds combined with more organic notes from traditional instruments, creating a very "sci fi" sound.
This is a great CD to work and study to as it provides great background music without being too intrusive.

5 out of 5 stars Sweet.......2004-02-23

This is a great CD. Just listing to it makes me feel like I'm watching the show.

For proof, try the straight-ahead, look-out-Beyoncé-Mimi's-still-got-it "Mine Again"; the '70s-soul cuddle-up "Circles," a don't-attempt-on-American Idol love song; or the gospel dazzlers "Fly Like a Bird" and "Stay the Night." But for songs that steer this disc directly into 2005, no looking back, scan the jewel case for tracks followed by the word "featuring": "To the Floor," with Nelly, bumps along to maximum booty-shaking effect, while Twista spins his natural-disaster-force vocals into "One and Only." Snoop Dogg, Pharrell Williams, and Jermaine Dupri also pitch in; between them and the highwire vocals, Emancipation works the kind of pure-pop magic that sets us all free. --Tammy La Gorce

This platinum deluxe edition features four tracks not found on the original release: "Don't Forget About Us"; "What It Look Like"; "So Lonely (One & Only Part II)"; and a remix of "We Belong Together" featuring Jadakiss and Styles P. Also included is a bonus DVD with videos for "It's Like That," "We Belong Together," "Shake It Off," and the never-before-released international video for "Get Your Number."

5 out of 5 stars I ADORE MARIAH!!.......2006-12-08

TOO MUCH TIME ON THEIR HANDS PLEASE READ.....
FIRST OFF....TOO ALL THE HATERS THAT FIND THEMSELVES WRITING A REVIEW ON THIS BOARD. I HAVE TO ASK....WHY ARE YOU EVEN WASTING YOUR TIME? IF THERE IS AN ARTIST THAT I AM NOT A BIG FAN OF I DON'T EVEN WASTE MY TIME TO WRITE A REVIEW. FURTHERMORE, MANY OF YOU IDIOTS ARE VERY MISINFORMED.
I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT SOME OF YOU ARE COMPARING HER TO JLO. THEY ARE TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ARTISTS. MARIAH'S FIRST CAREER IS HER MUSIC & JLO'S FIRST CAREER IS ACTING. THERE IS NO COMPARISON -JUST STOP THE NONSENSE.
IT IS ALSO SO IGNORANT WHEN PEOPLE SAY MC IS CRAZY. JUST BECAUSE SHE IS A CELEBRITY DOESN'T MEAN SHE IS EXEMPT FROM FACING THE SAME OBSTACLES IN LIFE THAT THE REST OF US DO. SHE WENT THROUGH A HARD TIME AND MADE IT THROUGH. THERE COMES A TIME IN EVERYONE'S LIFE WHEN WE HAVE TO FACE HURDLES, IT'S HOW WE GET OURSELVES THROUGH THEM THAT IS IMPORTANT. IT MAKES US HUMAN AND HUMBLES US. MARIAH SURVIVED IT LIKE A CHAMP.
& YES, MARIAH IS THE BIGGEST SELLING FEMALE ARTIST. NO OTHER ARTIST (WITH THE EXCEPTION OF MAYBE THE BEATLES & ELVIS) HAS EVER SOLD 150 MILLION ALBUMS. MADONNA HAS SOLD APPROXIMATELY 100 MILLION, HOWEVER THAT IS OVER A 25 YEAR SPAN. WHEREAS, MARIAH SURPASSED THIS NUMBER BY SEVERAL MILLION IN ONLY A 10-15 YR. SPAN. IT'S SIMPLE MATH.
& FOR THOSE FOLKS THAT ARE CRITICIZING HER FOR RE-RELEASING THE PLATINUM EDITION - WHY DO YOU EVEN CARE? OBVIOUSLY, YOU ARE NOT TRUE MC FANS. THE SOLE PURPOSE OF HER RE-RELEASING THE ALBUM WAS FOR HER HARD-CORE FANS LIKE MYSELF. I WOULDN'T CARE IF SHE RE-RELEASED IT 5X'S. IT NOT ONLY INCLUDES 4 ADDITIONAL TRACKS THAT ARE OFF THE HOOK, BUT IT ALSO INCLUDES A DVD. & TO THE REVIEWER THAT SAID SHE RE-RELEASED IT 3X'S YOU ARE SO MISTAKEN. SHE DID RELEASE ANOTHER FORMATTED COPY OF THE CD, BUT IT WAS RELEASED THE SAME DAY AS THE ORIGINAL. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THE PACKAGING (ONE INCLUDING A FULL SIZED POSTER) & IT IS UP TO THE CONSUMER TO CHOOSE WHICH ONE TO PURCHASE. & AGAIN, WHY DO YOU IDIOTS EVEN CARE. OH, & BUY THE WAY MC IS NOT THE ONLY ARTIST WHO HAS RE-RELEASED THEIR ALBUM (LET'S SEE JLO, USHER, JESSICA S., ALICIA KEYS.... & THE LIST GOES ON). I ALSO BELIEVE THAT IT IS THE RECORD COMPANIES THAT HAVE THE FINAL SAY AS TO WHAT TRACKS WILL BE INCLUDED THE ALBUMS. IF THE ALBUM SELLS WELL THEN THE MARKETING SEGMENT OF THE COMPANY KICKS IN GEAR AND THE LABEL DECIDES TO RE-RELEASE THE ALBUMS WITH ADDITIONAL TRACKS, ETC.
GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT BEFORE DISSING ON MC.
THE ADDITIONAL TRACKS ON THE PLATINUM EDITION ARE OFF THE HOOK & WELL WORTH THE $. ALSO, I PURCHASED THE PLATINUM AT WALMART FOR ONLY 9 BUCKS. THE ADDITIONS ARE GREAT R&B TRACKS WITH MESMERIZING BEATS, GREAT REMIXES, & THE OH SO BEAUTIFUL "DON'T FORGET ABOUT US".
SO TO THE HATERS - SCREW YUS ALL.....ACTUALLY, IT'S QUITE COMICAL READING YOUR REVIEWS, BECAUSE THEY ARE SO IGNORANT, INACCURATE, AND MEANINGLESS.

5 out of 5 stars The Emancipation Of Mimi - Ultra Platinum Edition [CD/DVD Combo].......2006-10-24

The Emancipation Of Mimi was already good but Mariah upgraded.
I bought it at Virgin Mega Store on April 12, 2006 but I had the original back in 2005.

The version I have has...

Shake It Off Remix Feat. Jay-Z & Young Jeezy
Sprung
Secret Love
Don't Forget About Us
Makin'It Last All Night (What It Do)Feat. Jermaine Dupri
So Lonely (One & Only Part II)Feat. Twista
We Belong Together Remix Feat. Jadakiss & Styles P.

The DVD has videos for...
It's Like That
We Belong Together
Shake It Off
Get Your Number
Say Somethin' (it's odd because I don't have Don't Forget About Us and I can't access the bonus material and I did everything required.)

There is not one filler track on here. Go buy The Emancipation Of Mimi.

5 out of 5 stars MARIAH-- TRULY FLIES LIKE A BIRD IN THIS UNFORGETTABLE ALBUM.......2006-07-07

The name of this album pretty much states the overall status of this widely-acclaimed collection. This is truly one of the best albums in all of musical history with it's unique sense of style, sweet melodies, unforgetable lyrics, and upbeat rhythms. "The Emancipation of Mimi" truly signifies music of the already progressing millennium. Mariah has lived up to "artist of the decade" in the 90s and clearly displays now.

This is honestly her greatest yet. It is a must-have and deserves re-released as a diamond album like "Music Box" and "Daydream."

4 out of 5 stars same freaky style........2007-01-23

cd 1 is the cd that I like the most.
tracks 1,2, (3) is my favorite on the album. i listen to it alot.
cd 2 should just be titled baby making music. because it' s all about that. Which is great if you are trying to make a baby.
cd 3 i only liked track 5.
If you are not a fan of profanity it's good, because the music is hot while still being listenable.

1 out of 5 stars Don't buy censored music.......2006-03-15

This is an excellent album. Musically, it's wonderful.

Why am I giving it only 1 star? Because, for reasons I don't understand, two tracks are censored - they have some horrible noise on them masking the lyrics which means the songs become unlistenable. (The tracks are 4 and 8 of Disc 3).

There is an answer: get the 'uncensored' version. Make sure you don't get the censored one.

By the way, can anyone explain who is responsible for this madness? Prince of all people - he spends years having a dispute with his record company about artistic freedom and now he puts out censored music...? What's that all about?

5 out of 5 stars Alas, Prince has been emancipated..........2002-10-23

Overall, this album has a soothing/spiritual feel 2 it. The music on this 3-CD album varies from oldies (la la la means I love u, betcha by golly wow) to swing (courtin' time) to tap dancing solos (joint 2 joint) and even a piano/vocal melody (let's have a baby). Put simply, Prince is a musical genius!

If u r a Prince fan, this is definitely a must! Specially with songs like The Holy River, Damned if i do, Saviour, and Soul Sanctuary. If u r not a Prince fan and r considering becoming one, ur best bet might b 2 start off with "The Hits" and work ur way 2 this CD.

Note: Prince's music is very detailed. If at first, this album doesn't catch ur complete attention, do what I did...give it another chance. Before u know it, U'll be hooked!

2 out of 5 stars Prince- Emancipation.......2002-06-04

This is terrible. Sorry to say, but Prince's time is over.

Out with the old & into the new, unfortunately. The new is just... the boring same.

5 out of 5 stars Prince.......2002-02-07

It is the best Cd what Ihave ever heard. It so pure and the feeling are so good, the words can it not say. It is really natural.

Amazing music. Great songs. Splendid voice. One of the most beautiful albums of her career, that proves once again the talent and amazing vocality of Ms. Carey. A must have!

4 out of 5 stars Okay for me........2007-01-09

I expected a little more of this album. She continues to blow, but I feel there's not enough "Maraih" in it. Gotta give up the 4 though because she still runs neck and neck with Whitney as my favorite female vocalists.

5 out of 5 stars response to reviewer above me (Honey B. Fly).......2006-09-19

The edition with the limited poster is in the one with the digipack (cardboard) packaging and is neither the ultra edition with the 4 bonus tracks or the ultra platinum edition with 4 bonus songs and dvd

      5 out of 5 stars Question.......2006-02-09

Does anybody know which is the real cover of this Limited edition of the CD with poster? Thanks!

1 out of 5 stars I guess looks are all that matter Part 2.......2006-01-09

Wow, this music sure is generic & pointless. Here's a little tip for all the "music fans" out there, don't buy a cd because you like the way a singer looks, just download their pictures off the internet & save some money.
