Jim Gaffigan's brand of off-the-cuff comedy is fantastic. From Panda bears to chocolate cake, nothing escapes his sense of humor. Not very appropriate for children because of some of his subject matter, although it is not too offensive or overly crude. This is a great comedic gem that will have you rolling on the floor--"Did he just say on the floor...sounds dirty." Get it, and you'll understand

I may have a new favorite artist. The harmonies and light instrumentation blend to give the listener an aural caress that lasts for the whole album. I prefer music where the singer blends into the music and becomes one of the instruments instead of insisting on being the focus of the spotlight.

Laura Powers does it again. Legends of the Goddess II Beyond the Pale, has all the magic and beauty but is unique. Beyond the Pale has everything you could wish for. Her songwriting is poetry and if you liked the Mists of Avalon or Braveheart you will love this cd. I especially loved the Songs A Heart in Winter and Long Way Down. I cannot say enough to express how much I love her music, you simply must see for yourselves.

released in 1986, this album is a tad lighter than her debut,but still sounds great.The hard driving rhythm guitar parts are better than ever!Her voice really will capture you.She has a one of a kind voice and vocal style.This is a prime piece of 80's metal.

Any one's music collection wouldn't be complete without this one. If you like the 80's or appreciate some good melodic metal, then this is a pure gem! I think this album is great party album as well. If you like good music and hate the 90's and today's music, then this is what you need.This is real music when real music was made.

80's but still a great cd!.......2004-07-01

This is a great cd but sounds a bit 80's. Her big and only Hit was the Kip Winger duet "Youre Sexing Me". Which is sad because there are alot of great songs on here! Her voice sounds wonderful and they do some great effects with it!
I still recommend all 3 cds and this is no exception! Lets Just hope that with the 2 reissues, she'll decide to reenter the studio and brings us a new cd in the near future!

Experimental Audio Research is the brainchild of rock experimentalist Sonic Boom (Spaceman 3, Spectrum), with the help of a few like-minded friends--My Bloody Valentine's Kevin Shields, God's Kevin Martin, and AMM's Eddie Prevost. Though originally self-released in 1996, Beyond the Pale is actually EAR's first disc, recorded way back in 1992. Sonic Boom successfully washes his hands of his former art-pop leanings with a challenging album of analog synths, guitar feedback, and subtle percussion effects that sound more ambient than rock. Don't worry, there's nothing too harsh on the album, though droning improvisations like the nearly 15-minute title track do require some patience. Their 1998 album Millennium Music may have been a more diverse affair, but Beyond the Pale's instrumental mayhem and rare vocals (a sampled chant makes a cameo) have their own intense power. --Jason Verlinde

Ambience to indulge your mind.......2000-03-23

Sonic Boom is guilty of releasing anything that springs from his mind. Many of his post-Spacemen 3 efforts have been true of this. However, his ambient leanings are superb, as is this disc. Unlike other Sonic reated material, there is the perfect amount of what we want ("The Calm Before", "Dusk") and less pointless noodling that permeates the later EAR release Data Rape. If you like this album check out EAR's Koner Experiment too.

sorry if the title sounded a bit arrogant, but i think it is true. pete kember is one of the few musicians that i think truly is a genius, even though most "reviewers" tend to not like his stuff. this album is a perfect example of "drone" at its finist. it will take you to another world while listening to it. and it takes a while to get used to but once you do i think it is an album you will really enjoy. one of my favorite things to do with this album is to drive, or walk or go to anypublic place and listen to this on head phones it just kind of sets you apart from everyone and everything a very neat experiance i must say

I ordered this based on a friend's recommendation and I always trust her taste in music. This time she was WRONG! She said it was a great CD, but it was the most incredible new music to come along in such a long time. It really moved me. I'm ordering another for a friend I like to turn on to new great artists. I look forward to hearing alot more from Bruce Henderson in the future. Is musical genius too strong of word? I think not.

NEW CD AND EVERYTHING IS FINE.......1999-09-28

OK, so behind every great talent there is great management. If you read my earlier review of this magnificent CD you will note that I complained about a problem with the CD. Luckily, Mr. Henderson's manager had posted his email address at the top of the review section and when I notified him of the problem , he replaced my faulty CD within days. It is rare to find a CD that is defected, but it's even rarer to find such a fast response to the problem. It seems that Mr. Thomas believes not only in Mr. Henderson's talent, but in his fans as well. From what I hear, the problem with the CD was limited to my copy so PLEASE, do not let that stop you from BUYING THIS CD. It is amazing. Another review on this page calls Beyond the Pale a career album. That pretty much sums it up. You can compare the sound with as many artist as you'd like, but the songs from Beyond the Pale are beyond compare. Look At You Now,Bone Tired, I Wanted To, and of course Speed Rack are just wonderful little gems waiting to be discovered. Do yourself a favor, discover them now. Albums like this don't come around very often, nor do artist. And in my opinion, nor do managers.

A career album. NO PROBLEM WITH THE CD IN USA!.......1999-09-18

I was anxious to hear this album as I have Bruce's debut solo CD "The Wheels Roll." "The Wheels Roll" is an excellent album, but I think "Beyond The Pale" places Bruce among the ranks of the truly great American singer-songwriters. There is not a bad cut on the album. I have read reviews comparing Bruce to Bob Dylan, The Wallflowers and Guy Clark, but make no mistake, his is an original voice. The songs are very literate, and the production is flawless. This is an album you can listen to again and again. Some favorite cuts: I Wanted To, Look At You Now, and Running Out Of Light. This is an artist working at the height of his powers. Incidentally, I read the review of the CD from the guy in Tokyo and I had to wonder if he had purchased a bootleg copy. I have no problem with my CD, and neither does a friend that I recommended it to. I highly recommend this album.

Wonderful, but the cd's are faulty.......1999-09-13

This is a great album. Years ago I bought Hearts and Minds on CD and thought I had discovered the next BIG thing. Soon after I saw that Andy York was playing with Mellencamp, and I wondered what happened to Mr. Henderson. I read about this CD and couldn't wait to hear it, and I will tell you, it's been a long time since I first heard this guy, but the wait was worth it. Beyond the Pale is just amazing. The first song is nothing more than a friend telling you about his weekend, sung (spoken) just the way you would expect to hear it in real life. Not so much a conquest, as two people NEEDING to be together. Nothing more and nothing less. What follows is truly one of the finest songs ever written to a past love SPEED RACK. This song was included on the Hearts and Minds CD and I loved it then and now in this stripped down version, it's even more powerful, letting the singer's bitterness and saddness towards an ex girlfriend get the better of him. Bruce sings it like a raw nerve, ever arrow fired in the ex's direction comes back to the singer himself. Powerful stuff, but played well and sung with the voice of a man who has lived these songs. There are tons of other songs on this CD that deserve mention, LOOK AT YOU NOW, being the first to come to mind, but there is a more urgent matter to discuss. The CD is faulty. The volume drops in and out in various places on almost all of the songs. I took the first copy back to the store and had to wait a few weeks for them to replace it (I live in Japan so it took awhile) and when I played the new one it was also defective, with the drop out in all the same places (most noticable on the first five songs) However, as annoying as this problem is, it should and does not reflect on the songs or talent of this artist. Get this CD, it is a worth the price, even if you can't find a non-defective copy.
