Similar to Evanescence, Autour De Lucie offers captivating melodies wrapped up with ethereal vocals. It is more than likely you will be addicted to the tunes of this record regardless of your familiarity level with the French language.

I personally like every single track on this album. I haven't listened to it enough to have favorites, but one thing for sure is that this album in its entirety is definitely one of my all time favorite albums.

Take the plunge into French Pop with Autour De Lucie. You will be glad you did.

Immobile by 'Autour de Lucie'.......2003-10-06

This is a both a delicately and beautifully crafted album by the fabulous Autour de Lucie fronted by the sublime Valerie Leulliot whose angelic dreamy vocals simply melt the cold English heart.
Although ADL sing in French they are difficult to categorize as just French pop since the influences range from classic French 60s pop (Francoise Hardy) to contemporary indie-dance such as Saint Etienne (cf. 'Chanson sans issue'), as well as shoegazing/4AD (cf. the colossal rock beast of 'La verite' and the spooky Cocteauseque 'L'eau qui dort'). Words can not suffice to describe the sheer Gallic elegance and eloquence of Valerie's French indie-dream-pop machine. Viva la revolution!

A friend brought this from Canada and since the first moment I heard it I fell in love with this CD, it's just awesome music, like sour notes, rock combined with Björk, really don't know how to describe Autour de Lucie's style, just get this CD, you WON'T REGRET IT!!!

Autour de Lucie est parfait........2002-01-25

There is French music and there is Autour de Lucie. Do NOT confuse the two. It's shocking that something this fresh, original, soulful, and at times, gritty, has come from the same country that made Johnny Hallyday a star...but it did. The songs are well-written, the lyrics (if you understand French) are intelligent, and the arrangements are tight and punchy. If you like indie or alternative or if you are just open-minded, give this album a go. It's my favourite of the three.

Stunning.......2002-10-26

I first heard Autour de Lucie on Faux Movement and fell in love with their music. I then purchased this album and was floored yet again. An absolute gem.

Echapee Belle.......2000-11-04

As already noted this CD is incorrectly titled as live. It is, in fact, a US release by Nettwerk Records of "Echapee Belle" (Beautiful Escape), the bands 1996 release from la village verte.

Beautiful melodies and sexy vocals. If you're looking for gourmet this isn't it but if you like fast food from time to time Autour de Lucie will hit the spot. It's not just burgers and fries though. Vallerie Leuillot's lyrics are heart felt and often haunting, her storytelling being reminiscent of the style of Harriet Wheeler. In fact it is probably not unfair to compare the band's sound to that of The Sundays (although all comparisons are a little unfair).

First, this CD is incorrectly described as a "[LIVE]" album. It is actually a great studio album. The songs are all incredibly well crafted with fantastic music and vocals. Definitely worth more than one listen if it doesn't grab you the first time around.

Nice music, very simple pop. The lyrics are making sense. A good CD to listen to from time to time. The singer as a great voice. A french CD that changes from the ritual Edith Piaf or Celine Dion.

Je Reviens Encore...........2005-11-29

et encore et encore to Autour de Lucie's great album "Faux Movement". I like this album best of all Lucie's recordings. I like the moodiness of the songs and I love French lyrics and vocals. "Faux Mouvement" has just the right blend of guitars and electronica to make this CD a permanent resident in my CD player. It's a little less rocking than the "Immobile" CD but it makes for better chill out or lounging music.

Valerie Leulliot drags French music into the new millenium!.......2003-10-08

I swear Valerie's voice just gets better and better- sexier, smoother, dreamier and breathier with age; yet she still looks like a newborn fawn- ah bless! But of course ADL would be nothing without also without her subtle and beguiling songwriting skills, blending traditional guitar indie with triphop and a touch of jazz to create a stunning landmark French language album in soft-focus.
In 'Faux Mouvement' Valerie demonstrates both an innocent childlike ingenue ('Le Salon') as well as worldweary maturity ('Sans comment' and the Saint Etienne-blessed 'Lent'), sometimes simultaneously as in the magnificent contemporary classic 'Je reviens' - all minor chords and swooning breathless vocals- that opens this treasure-chest of Gallic coffe-bar culture. Then there are the heart-rending tearladen ballads, 'La Contradiction' which could truly make Governor Arnie reach for the kleenex as well as the utterly beautiful ode-to-dejection (if you translate the lyrics) of 'Chanson de l'arbre'. So thats that difficult third album dispatched with then making ADL the best French guitar-band at the moment- can't wait to what she does next!

Voici un album super ! Enchanting voice, beautiful lyrics and haunting music. There are just one or two songs that I'm not crazy about, but the rest is great! However, other than a couple of songs that are fantastic on this album, I prefer "Immobile."

When I first heard this album, I was blown away. I'd never heard anything like this before. Leave it to the French to surprise!! Both my girlfriend and I love this album. It's so smooth and melodic, without being pretentious. I highly recommend it. Just close your eyes and listen to that sweet music...

Autour's Best .......2005-09-18

I found about this band one time i went to borders and they had their Faux Mouvement CD on sale. Since I was minoring in French I was buying music in French so I could practice the language. Autour's first two albums are more french pop oriented, with a sound more or less like Ivy's and the Cardigans. Then, with Faux Mouvement their sound changed a little bit to lush landscapes of few words and lots of music. Autour de Lucie's self-titled album is the best so far, coming up with a sound very unique and likable. This last album leans toward ambient electronic music rather than the pop sound that made them famous. Valerie's voice is at its best in this album. The songwriting has improved, but nothing that different from previous records. Still, each song has more music than voice and this one includes a song in english, equally enjoyable as the others. I recommend this album if you like music by artists like ivy and frou frou.
