Very hot "Salsa Dura" and great musicianship on this one........2003-07-28

The Cesta All-Stars were a reincarnation of the Alegre All-Stars and continued the tradition of searing-hot salsa featuring great musicianship and vocals. This band may not be very well-remembered today, but it was one of the best of its time.

The Cesta All-Stars were a reincarnation of the Alegre All-Stars and included most of the musicians that played on the legendary 1960s Alegre sessions. Produced by the late great Al Santiago and Joe Quijano.

Bestial!!.......2005-06-22

This is a phenomenal recording!!!
Ran Kan Kan is superb. A long descarga that is absolutely electifying. It isnt as aggressive as the Tito Puente version, but it is far more complex and funky! If this doesnt make you move, you are dead. I am listening to it right now and am halfway through. The horns are screaming, the percussion is like a train- its coming hard and not letting up at all. At 10+minutes there is time enough in this for everyone to get their solo in and STILL it leaves you panting for more.

Then there is La Quinta de Beethoven. What happens when some Nuyorican salseros get together and play Beethoven? Check it out.This is even better, IMO, than Ran Kan Kan. "This is the fifth, played on the three. We know its weird, but so are we". While as electirifying as the other track, it also has more of a folkloric feel, i think that is a tres I hear. It adds another level of complexity to an already superior song. Then we get a nice jazzy piano solo from legendary Charlie Palmieri. THIS is music!!!!!!

This was recorded before I was born, leaving me to complain yet again that I was really born about 20 years too late.
