Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Let us learn to appreciate their great music without.......2005-12-30

I've listened to Inti Illimani for the past 20 years. Definitely great musicians and great recordings, to say the least. However the use of this review section as a political venue to praise Allende and call his deplorable and failed communist period in power exciting, and Pinochet's years "the frightening Pinochet years" (read reviews under The Best of Inti Illimani), can only come from the twisted mind of someone who still believes in 20th Century myths: the myth of Fidel Castro, the myth of Che Guevara, etc. Having survived 11 years in a communist country I know better, a lot better. All of us should by now. Unfortunately we do not. Look at Venezueza and now Bolivia, with the two puppets in power dancing to the music of Fidel Castro.

Frightening years for whom? For the communists and all members of the red tribe of disciple of Fidel Castro, of course. Today, to still call Pinochet a dictator and Fidel Castro "president" is beyond comprehension. Look at Chile today. Can anyone believe it could have become what it is now without eliminating Allende's regime and crushing the communists?

I give Inti Illimani an A for their music. Let us learn to appreciate their great music without praising their disastrous and failed political views. For that, they get capital F.

4 out of 5 stars Good for dancing (or at least rhythmic shoulder-shrugging).......2004-06-30

Inti-Illimani has had a very interesting musical development from their emergence in the engineering faculty of a Santiago university! This excellent CD includes re-releases of TWO of their original records, Canto al programa (1970) and Si Somos Americanos (1969), their first commercial release. While neither of these, understandably, displays quite the musical sophistication of their more recent CDs, it is very listenable and features a reasonable variety of styles. The inclusion of spoken "relatos" in the C.a.p. half of the CD is particularly interesting in fillng out the highly political message of the songs; but the lyrics included are in Spanish only. You might also enjoy their Canto y baile (of song and dance, 1989), and the music of Victor Jara.

5 out of 5 stars Luchar y sobrevivir.......2003-10-06
