Sometimes it's O.K.--even important--to put aside your reluctance to embrace artists who make teenage girls scream. This is so classic Maroon 5, yet more mature, heartfelt and in some cases tragic ... in love. I recommend this to anyone who loved their first album. This is an excellent collection of songs. Every single one is a favorite.

Great sophomore cd.......2007-08-06

I am a huge fan of Maroon 5. I was hesistant to buy their sophomore cd. When the first one came out, it was great and I enjoyed hearing every song and when a artist releases a second cd, it usually is not that good.
I am glad I purchased it. I can tell that their music is growing and every song on this cd is really good especially Won't go home without you. I highly recommend this cd to anyone who wants something different.

This album grows on you.......2007-08-05

The best advice I can give for "It Won't Be Soon Before Long" is that to get your money's worth, you have to be willing to listen to it a lot. For example, the first time I listened, I was sad because I didn't like it - at all. The second time, I figured - hey, I really like these guys, I'll give them another chance, and with that attitude it wasn't so bad. The third, fourth, and fifth listenings went on, and it has been the only cd I've listened to for two weeks. This is an excellent cd!!

Twenty years after their debut album introduced a well-read duo with a peculiar wit and a gift for contagious melodies, They Might Be Giants--a.k.a. But several times the implications in the lyrics are all too real, such as the love undertones of "Contrecoup" and "Take Out the Trash," an uncannily catchy dump-your-boyfriend song that suggests "Once you get him out, tell him not to come back again." The More You Listen, the Better it Gets!.......2007-08-06

The first time I listened to The Else, I came away incredibly disappointed. How could They Might Be Giants have lost their way? Where were the classic tracks? Every past album TMBG has released has had at least one classic; why wasn't that the case with their latest effort?

The answer was that the classic tracks were right here, staring me in the face. I found that the more I listened to the album, the more I liked it which, strangely enough, was exactly how I felt when I first listened to John Henry. My complaint with John Henry was that it was too rock-oriented; there weren't enough playful tracks as there were with Apollo 18 or Flood. But the more I listened, the more I realized that TMBG had simply progressed in their music. Today, John Henry is one of my favorite TMBG albums. And I can easily say the same thing about The Else.

As with John Henry, it has taken me several playings to fully appreciate The Else, TMBG's 12th album. Their music has progressed quite a bit, and they have a great "full" sound in this latest effort. My personal favorites include "I'm Impressed," "The Cap'M," "Withered Hope," and "The Mesopotamians," each of which is worth the price of admission.

Included with this first edition CD is a bonus disc of songs from the TMBG podcast. It is worth noting that the bonus disc is as good as the official album itself, so it's like you're getting two albums for the price of one! I had never listened to the TMBG podcast until I heard these songs; now I'm a subscriber in iTunes! So many of the songs on the bonus disc evoke memories from their early days, and a number of them are very catchy. My favorites include "Why Did You Grow a Beard?," "We Live in a Dump," "Brain Problem Situation," and "(She Was A) Hotel Detective in the Future." A live version of "Metal Detector" is included, which is nice, but I would have preferred another new song rather than a rehash of a classic.

If you're a fan of the They Might Be Giants, definitely pick up this album. And make sure you listen to it two or three times. Once just isn't enough to appreciate how the band's sound has changed. You'll be glad you gave it a chance; I know I am!

They Might Be Gods!.......2007-08-05

John and John have done it again. Not just one, but two discs full of TMBG greatness. Just when you think they can't come up with anything more crazy than before, they release songs like "Why Did you Grow a Beard" and "The Mesopatamians." Sometimes I wonder where in the world they get the ideas for these songs.

They Might Be Barenaked Giant Ladies.......2007-08-03

The distinguishing feature of this album is that the sound is becoming more polished and conventional, as though TMBG has hit on an actual TMBG style, and is therefore content in their groove. I can't quite put my finger on it, but it reminds me of an album where the instrumentation is done by the Barenaked Ladies, while the lyrics are straight TMBG, hence the title of this review.

So that being said, this is a strong effort that continues the style of The Spine. Since I liked that, and likened it to John Henry, I will be consistent in comparing this to John Henry. There is nothing wrong with that, and this is every bit as good as The Spine, with no tracks that I will habitually skip. The first 4, and the last tracks are the best of all.

So why a one star deduction? Well, because Flood is their best album, and all my reviews keep that in mind. If TMBG releases an album as strong as Flood, I will give that 5 stars.

But enough of all that. For those who complained that Spine was too short, buy the First Edition of The Else up immediately! Cast Your Pods To The Wind may have a lot of skippable songs, but it has some real gems as well, and make this a double album for the price of one!

TMBG delivers big on album 12..........2007-07-31

Has it really been 12 albums already? Where does the time go? This set of songs would be perfectly at home between Apollo 18 and John Henry. Not every song is what I'd call a Home Run, but the over all compilation is just right. After doing so much kiddie stuff and obscure podcast style short songs, it's nice to have a real album again. If you liked the sound of TMBG in the late 80's and early 90's you won't be disappointed with this album.

Buy it for the bonus disc!.......2007-07-27

Two discs grace this collection; one is entitled "Cast Your Pod To The Wind". This disc is full of the creativity, spontaneity, humor, and pioneering experimental spirit that has made They Might Be Giants a truly great band. Catchy, weird songs. Unusual rhythms. Penny-whistle solos, ukulele, tuba, strange electronics, wild vocal techniques, and even *gasp* ACCORDION are just a few of the myriad sonic surprises that lay in wait for your ears.

It also comes with a disc entitled "The Else." This disc is surprisingly unremarkable. Perhaps its conventionalism will make it more accessable to fans of mainstream radio, I don't know. Although I will make one remark: Have you ever sketched, written, or recorded a great idea, but then worked hard trying to improve and refine it, only to find the polished, finished product had lost the vitality of the original? Yeah... I think that must be what happened with the material written for "The Else". Over-produced to the point of being... well... let's say it does not hold one's attention.

The initial appeal of TMBG was that they DID NOT sound like every other corporate rock entity. So what happened? It seems they want to "play it safe" these days for the official album tracks, only daring to exert their true genius in the dark recesses of podcasts, b-sides and bonus discs.

In summation: Buy it for the bonus disc while it's still available! That alone is worth a four-star rating. Console yourself that no, TMBG haven't "lost it"; rather, they seem to "hide it" these days.

Sloppy in conception, and even sometimes in the playing, Let It Be often gets a bad rap. Unfairly, as it's often as charming, well written, and (oh yeah) rocking as the Beatles' "better" albums; it's also more outright fun than Abbey Road, the masterpiece it followed into the stores. With Lennon and McCartney working together on the perfect "I've Got a Feeling," "Two of Us," and "Dig a Pony," it's hard to believe these guys were about to implode. --Rickey Wright

Let it Beatle.......2007-07-30

I bought this CD specifically for a copy of "Two of Us" for music for my son's wedding and was surprised how well all of the music continues to hold up. Of course, I have the vinyl album from back in the day but it was never one of my very favorites. I am really glad I rediscovered it. And, of course, it is the only Beatles album produced by Phil Spector. How time does bring things to circle.

The Convoluted End.......2007-07-08

The heavy black border on the front cover, the inexplicable reversion by the band members to "younger" looks, the red apple label, the "new phase Beatles album" line on the back cover, all played their part in confusing one particular 13-year-old upon this album's release. It would only be about five years later, once the Beatle literature began to proliferate in earnest, that I comprehended the situation behind what many commentators bemoaned as a painfully weak finish to a spectacular musical career, indeed epoch. All these years later I still find myself agreeing that it was a shame the Beatles didn't keep this one in the vault and let Abbey Road stand as their true swan song.

Overall, though, Let It Be really does little to tarnish the Beatles' reputation. There are small pleasures here that stand the test of time better than some of the Beatles' more grandiose efforts. "Two of Us" and "Get Back" can proudly take their place among the best of Lennon-McCartney, and even the overproduced "Across the Universe" and "The Long and Winding Road" still have a haunting melodic beauty.

And the Beatles, being the Beatles, didn't leave this without an odd wrinkle or two in the backstory. For one thing, this is the album for which the final Beatles recording sessions were conducted. Absent John, the rest of the group convened sometime after Abbey Road was put to bed to record George's "I Me Mine", which was featured in the Let It Be film, but only in rough form. They also put some finishing touches to the title track. These sessions were conducted in January 1970, which gave the Beatles the barest toehold as a working group in the new decade. The initial release of the album also reportedly featured a book of photos that one commentator described over thirty years ago as "useless", though I've never seen that book and would very much like to, if only to say I did.

And there is this: the album is entirely free of even the barest hint of the sometimes painful tension on display in the film. I'm not sure what that means, except that they obviously had moments even at this nadir when they could rally and make the magic happen.

And i dont really know why. It has some of the beatles better songs on it, and its a pretty cohesive album on the whole. yes, it does seem that spector can be accused of overproduction; it would have undoubtedly been better if martin was producing. dont pass this album up. its essential to anyone's catalog.

No stranger to the realm of children's records, They Might Be Giants have seen success with their CD No! and the book-and-CD combo Bed, Bed, Bed. Their latest CD, Here Come the ABCs, offers up 25 alphabetically themed songs. However, as is their charming way, the two Johns (Flansburgh and Linnell), use the letters as merely the connective tissue, allowing them to pursuit intriguing flights of fancy that consider everything from the relative power of letters and sounds to animal hijinks. Just as they've always done, there are wistful ballads and high octane rockers. TMBG have always been a family-friendly band, and this disc works just fine for adult fans, who can rightfully consider this simply their newest release. --David Greenberger

I cannot rave enough about Here Come the ABCs! These lessons in the ABCs are quirky yet educational, silly yet sophisticated, and truly speak to the mind of a child. Oh, and I love to listen to them too!

My favorite track is Fake-Believe, while my children heartily enjoy E Eats Everything. This is much more than typical children's music or corny songs about the alphabet -- it is They Might Be Giants in everyway. Blending silliness with sophistiaction is the m.o. of tmbg, and the two Johns definitely hit the mark with this dvd/cd. You and your children will come back to this over and over, you might even beg for more!

My son of 18 months likes this. The DVD is good, the CD loses a little something since some of the songs need the visual clues (like where is the letter). My wife just finds it strange :-)

My family loves this DVD. All of the songs and accompanying animation is very creative, while teaching kids the alphabet. The songs are not annoying like some kids music, and my husband and I find ourselves going around singing the songs all the time. The CD that comes with the DVD is great for taking along in the car.

I bought "Here Come the ABC's" for a friend for her birthday after she watched it with my son. She adores the set. They Might Be Giants performs wonderfully catchy songs that are both easy to remember and challenge thinking. My son, who is 2, enjoys the puppets and the vivid and sometimes strange animation sequences. Favorite songs in our household include "Alphabet of Nations" (me), "E Eats Everything" (my son), and "Alphabet Lost and Found" (my husband). This set is one that I would recommend to anyone who interacts with young children learning to play with language. It grabs their attention, and they don't mind at all.

It's common knowledge that solo albums are simply an excuse for a frustrated band member to indulge their experimental sides and Rob Thomas, singer for decidedly M.O.R. multiplatinum rockers Matchbox Twenty is not one to pass on the opportunity. Having already explored the classic rock thing through his collaborations with Mick Jagger and Santana, Thomas goes the other way here with results that are unexpected, and, sometimes totally unbelievable. He veers from modern R&B on the Justin Timberlake-aping "Lonely No More" to vintage prog-rock in "All That I Am," touching on all points in between. There are a few nods to the Matchbox canon with "Ever the Same" and "This Is How a Heart Breaks" but, as the title suggests, this is an album about finding himself. For the moment, Thomas is still searching. The DualDisc portion features 5.1 surround sound, a 20-minute documentary on the making of the album by filmmaker Gillian Grisman, plus the holiday tune, "Christmas in New York." --Aidin Vaziri

Too experimental for my taste.......2007-07-04

This album was a huge departure from the work Rob Thomas had done with Matchbox Twenty. There are a lot of funky, soulful grooves on this album, which didn't work for me. It was a valiant effort, but most of the songs just didn't make much of an impact on me. "Lonely No More" was a great single, and inspired me to buy the album. Other than that single, there just wasn't any other song that really blew me away. A few decent songs, and the rest was filler. I look forward to Rob's next release, whether it be back with Matchbox Twenty, or another solo project.

I have always been a fan of MatchBox 20 and when Rob Thomas decided to do a solo project I was very excited. The cd has a sound reminescent of MatchBox 20 in places but in others he has a sound all his own. He has a wonderful voice and I really enjoyed the slower songs on the cd.

Great CD .......2007-02-15

Great CD but not worth it for a Dual Disc. I can't play it in my car because it's a dual disc (CD on one side and DVD on the other) and I can only play it in my computer if I have a DVD player loaded on my computer. It's a great CD. The songs are fabulous but I want a CD with the songs on it that I can play in my car and download the songs onto my computer. I ended up downloading the songs from ITunes but still can't play the CD in my car. I still give the CD 4 stars because I love every single song. It'd get another star if the DVD played any music videos.

Okay but definately 70's sounding.......2007-07-10

I remembered this from childhood so I bought it. It's okay but you don't want to listen to it over & over, the songs and skits get irksome after the first run through. Not actually all songs, some short skits - a lot to do with gender equality wich is good but not alltogether entertaining... I prefer Billy Jonas - What Kind of Cat Are You!!!

Oldie but a Goodie.......2007-06-27

This title was great when my children were children; now they're adults with children of their own, and it's still great. We keep it in the player in the car for when the grandkids ride with us along with Peter, Paul and Mommy and Peter, Paul, and Mommy Too. The grandkids enjoy it just as much as our kids did.

Every time I hear these songs, it takes me back to my very first Fisher Price record player! I can still sing along with every song. My husband thinks the collection is a bit cheesey, and he is probably right. But that never stopped me from loving the best memories of my childhood. We are buying the collection for our children for sure!

Not literally fresh and new, perhaps, but thirty years ago when I was first listening to this on vinyl, I never would have imagined that the message would still be essential in the 21st century. I've been buying copies for the kids of all my friends and relatives, because I hope that the more people listen to this growing up, the more likely that eventually we'll live in a world where this CD isn't needed.

An early birthday gift for my daughter (to be nine in April '07) - she can't get enough of this CD! After one listen, she was quoting bits and bites and getting up to hit "repeat" on the CD player. Cool.

My sister and I loved it as kids and though it's a teeny bit dated, the messages are sound, clear, and still 'work' today. The comedy is great for all ages(who can beat Mel Brooks and Alan Alda?)
So, my review says: get it! Listen ofen! And give it to someone you love!

Once again, Rod Stewart "Great American Song Book" Series is great. We now have all of them and enjoy them all. He has always been a talent and these series of CD's are just as wonderful as all of Stewart's music. Highly recommend.

Save Your Money!.......2007-05-15

I already had his "As Time Goes By" album and listen to it constantly so I figured it would be a natural to buy this one. Couldn't wait for it to be delivered. Played it once and it was Awful all the way around. His voice, the accompanyment, the sound! It's sitting in front of me as I type this and I have no desire to ever play it again, that's how bad it is. On the other hand, his "As Time Goes By" disk is fabulous! But if I had bought "It Had to Be You" first it would have ended there. Unfortutely, I can't get my money back. Don't make the same mistake unless you adore this guy and will put up with anything he recorded no matter how bad it is.

I bought this CD with great expectations,however after hearing it several times I have to say that Rod Stewart failed.His singing is unable to convey the soft swing mood which is fundamental to this beautiful songs.His voice sounds dull and does not transmit any emotion.I think Mr Stewart should return to what he really does masterfully,pop/rock

A major disapointment.......2007-08-02

I am a huge fan of the first two BarlowGirl albums, but I must say this one is lacking severely compared to the first two. It starts off with one great rocker, and then immediately goes into two slow songs. After that it never really caught my attention because there was nothing there to get my attention.

The remaining seven songs were all mid tempoed to slow songs that I just did not care for. I hope this is not the new path they are going down. This album is defnitely for a different crowd than the last two were. I desperately wanted to like this album, and I have been eagerly anticipating it for some time.

I will put this disclaimer in here. I am not a fan of most bands in this genre. I like Killswitch Engage, Megadeth, As I Lay Dying, and Underoath, so maybe I am the exception and not the rule, but I doubt it.

Different, but AMAZING........2007-08-01

BarlowGirl has grown alot, spiritually, lyrically, and musically. True, this CD does have a very different feel from their previous two albums, this one is a bit less rock, and has more of the contemporary christian feel to it. But I can honestly say this is some of the best Christian music I have ever listened to.
The album is alot darker, lyrically and musically. It deals with the hardships of living the Christian life, with themes of hope, faith, and spiritual warfare. The lyrics are very deep and masterful, expressing the girls' faith through the years.

1. Song for the Broken (8/10) - The opener for this album starts out with a lot of strings, very catchy and guitar-driven, but doesnt stand out as much as the other songs.

2. I Believe in Love (10/10) - Fell in love with this on first listen. Powerful lyrics, deals with faith in midst of hardships.

3. Here's my Life (10/10) - The album's first single. This song takes awhile to get into, starts out very slow with synthesizers but ends strong with a lot of guitars.

4. Keep Quiet (8/10) - very bass-driven, but seems to lack something musically, deals with not being ashamed to speak about your faith.

5. Million Voices (10/10) - BarlowGirl's most outspoken song yet! This song is where the album's name "How Can We Be Silent" comes from. Sends an anthem to this generation. A ton of guitar, distortion, and drums. This is their rockiest song so far.

6. Sweet Revenge (9/10) - Also a very catchy song with strings. Deals with forgiveness.

7. One More Round (9/10) - BarlowGirl's first attempt at Jazz, one of the songs that make this CD so different. It took me a couple listens to like it. This song is where the CD cover's boxing ring comes from. No matter how many times we get knocked down, we have to get up and go for one more round.

8. Take My Chances (6/10) - Not my favorite. It comes from Romans 12:2, the verse BarlowGirl is most known for. The lyrics are pretty good, but musically it sounds too much like your typical rock band.

9. Guy Song (8/10) - This song is a challenge to the guys to stand up for their beliefs. Lyrically, good, musically, alright, but this song just somehow doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the album.

10. I Don't Regret (10/10) - The ballad of the CD. very melancholic. Lyrics are very deep, one of the songs that really show the maturity of the girls' song writing.

This CD is one of the best, highly recommended whether you've been a long time fan or not.

Fabulous .......2007-07-27

I am very happy that I bought this CD. I had never heard of BarlowGirl until they performed in Dallas, TX at the Celebrate Freedom concert at Southfork Ranch...Their song "Million Voices" was what made me determined that I would get this CD on July 24th.

The musicianship in this group is very impressive, and I've about decided I am going to go back to the Christian store and purchase more of their music.

Praiseworthy Music!.......2007-07-26

While I was listening to HOW CAN WE BE SILENT yesterday, staring down at the CD's cover art, I was struck with a perilous thought: exactly how wrong is it to stare at the fresh, polished, beautiful faces of your favorite Christian girl band and only be able to think about sinning? Let's be honest! They're stunning to look at! They're beautiful girls, growing into beautiful women! Not just beautiful but Maybelline beautiful! Faces that could launch a thousand ships beautiful, and that's what they're doing musically! Yeah, I'm gonna burn -- I know -- but that's like drinking Kerosene to make sure I burn quicker than is absolutely necessary.

Back to the main topic ...

As a matter of personal taste, I'd have to admit that HOW CAN WE BE SILENT isn't as strong as their previous outing (ANOTHER JOURNAL ENTRY, with its terrific pop/rockish anthem 'I Need You To Love Me,' spawned two releases -- the original and a special edition), but that's largely because ANOTHER -- the group's second disk -- really catapulted the Barlow girls to the stratosphere of the Christian music industry so it's inevitably a hard act to follow.

Still, the girls have matured, and so has their sound. The music -- while a bit melancholy, a bit meditative -- is more complex than the tracks on ANOTHER JOURNAL ENTRY (I think one of the attributes of that disc is the fact that the music felt stripped down to basics, matching their Journalized thoughts, a huge strong point); as they've grown, matured, experienced new challenges to life and faith, they've brought their music with them, and it's followed the same course. Their harmonies are far more poised, pronounced, and polished, and I think the only weakness here to matching musical complexity with lyrical complexity (if there is such a thing) is that I found myself trying to listen past the lyrics to hear some of the amazing sounds. Again, not necessarily a bad thing, just ironically distracting at times.

Thankfully, though, Barlowgirl knows how to rock, as is evidenced on my favorite track, 'Million Voices.' This is a massive track -- arguably this disk's 'I Need You To Love Me' -- a breakout runaway personal theme song for the entire Christian rock industry if not their entire Christian movement spanning centuries. (Yeah, maybe that's a bit strong, but so's the song!) With a driving beat and throbbing rock coupled with heavenly harmonies, this is the track I kept going back to over and over and over again. This is the track that, like their previous disc, was the perfect blend of words and music.

Keep at it, girls, keep 'journaling' your music. In my book, you'll always be a wonderful act for inspiration.

Hitch up your I-Pods, egg-headed hipsters of the future: They Might Be Giants, the out-there band that files its sound under the banner of "Can't We All Just Get Along" is speaking your language. What they're saying is No!, but in a way that's weirdly welcoming, especially to anybody who's over 3 and has a hard drive. No!'s computer enhancements (animation, games, and a sing-along scroll bar) don't assign the strictly audio experience to the so-what pile, but at certain moments they seem necessary--how else are you supposed to decipher a song ("Violin") whose only words are "violin," "hippo," and the ticking off of fractional segments of George Washington's head? Of course, to try to make sense of the 17 tunes contained here may be to miss the point. While TMBG's lyrical and vocal hijinks can be off-putting to grownups prone to self-consciousness about not getting the joke, the generation No! takes aim at needs nothing in the way of validation. Thus the brilliance of baggage-free ditties like "Fibber Island," where the natives strum rubber guitars and sew buttons on cars, "John Lee Supertaster," a rock & roll fantasy following a hero with heightened senses of sweet and sour, and "I Am a Grocery Bag," detailing what's bumping around in brown paper after a trip to the market. With their triumph over the tube (TMBG took home a Grammy for the theme to Malcolm in the Middle and perform and wrote the intro to The Daily Show with Jon Stewart), frontmen John Linnell and John Flansburgh have already infiltrated the family market, sort of. Is It True?.......2007-05-25

Is it true that They Might Be Giants are the reason behind the NON-release of the Malcolm in the Middle DVDs? People supposedly in the know say that because They Might Be Giants won't give the music rights, that fabulous comedy program Malcolm in the Middle won't ever be released on DVD (beyond the first season, for some reason).
If this is true, it is terrible! If it is true, I will never ever buy any product of They Might Be Giants until Malcolm in the Middle is fully released!

Great gift for kids from 'cool' aunts and uncles.......2007-05-15

My oldest brother and his wife just had their first baby, so I am a first-time aunt, and therefore clueless about anything having to do with children. My brother is very picky about music, considers himself very hip (ha ha, I'm the little sister so I get to make fun of him), and I'm broke so I can't buy a designer diaper bag, but I CAN afford cool music.

So I just bought them this CD (apparently one of the songs is on some Disney CHannel show?) and they LOVE it. They keep telling me how great it is and how grateful they are to have kids' music to listen to that isn't mind-numbing. I also got them "Toddler" by Sara Hickman, recommended by Zooglobble.com, which has some great reviews of kids music. And 'Good Ideas' by the Imagination Movers, and they like both those albums too, but they especially keep thanking me for this TMBG album.

So now I just have to find something that will help them get her to sleep... :)

This is a brilliant record in every sense of the word; it may be, next to "Flood", my favorite TMBG album. Getting it for your kids is just a great excuse to buy it, although I can honestly say that you haven't lived until you've heard your 18-month-old singing "Robot Parade" or "Four of Two" or "Fibber Island" - it's just so bloody funny hearing our son deliver lines like "Our dog is two miles wide/And all he talks about is pie". Purchase this immediately.

Former TMBG fan raising future TMBG fans!.......2007-01-23

My cousin bought my elder son this CD, when he was obsessed with robots. Now, we sing all the songs, together, with both my boys! It's not too cutesie to make me want to stop the car, but it's kid friendly. My friend came riding with us, one day, and couldn't stop singing, "Don't cross the street in the middle in the middle in the middle of the block!". She then went out and bought the CD. She has no children. We really enjoy this, and learn about different topics, as my sons get older and question parts of the songs.

This is an awesome album. I got it for my husband for Christmas. We both are They Might Be Giants fans. We both love it and so does our nearly 2 year old daughter. It is great to have a kid friendly album that is so adult friendly too. It is the same They Might Be Giants I am use to, only the lyrics are crazy in a kid appropriate way, meaning they do not compromise who they are to make a "kiddy" ablum. It is great, even if you don't have kids.

Australian-born Keith Urban, hot off the double-platinum success of his 2002 sophomore album, Golden Road, is kind of like contemporary country's Tom Cruise. The kid is just so unjustly talented, likeable, and good-looking that it's hard not to hate him. But such jealousy is apt to melt into begrudging admiration and affection after a quick listen to this third album. True, some of Urban's self-penned adolescent love laments and bright-eyed paeans to life in the slow lane do sound a bit callow and derivative. But, with his resolute tenor and his dazzling lead guitar work, he breathes real pain and passion into moving confessionals like Matraca Berg's "Nobody Drinks Alone," "Tonight I Wanna Cry" (a heart-rending ballad co-written by Urban), and a gentle Rodney Crowell gem called "Memories of Us." --Bob Allen

I'm not even a country fan!.......2007-08-07

I bought this CD because of one song (Tonight I Wanna Cry)and was pleasantly surprised that I genuinely enjoy about 1/2 the songs on the disc. Which is more than I can say about other CD's I've purchased. I also like God's Been Good to Me. If you don't tap your foot when this one's on, your dead! I always like to hear the cuts that don't get radio play, and since I wasn't familiar with most of these songs, it was and is a refreshing listen. Urban seems like a cool guy who doesn't try to be what he isn't. I mean the guys gotta make a living, but he's not over the top commercialized.

I got this cd just a couple of weeks ago, my first Keith Urban album and I love it! I already knew several of the songs, Days Go By, Better Half, Better Life, Making Memories Of Us, Tonight I Want to Cry, etc.
I already loved those, but the rest of the album is great too! The Hard Way, Shes Gotta Be, etc. It's a great album and I defintely recommend it!

Keith Urban is such a talented artist.He conveys such emotion unlike alot of other country artists.His guitar solos are unparalleled and his optomistic view of life is refreshing,his break-up songs heart rending.I love the universal lyrics and screaming guitar solos that make him famous.This album in particular has alot of great songs.

Days Go By-a refreshing,upbeat song about living life now and not missing it.One of his best.

Better Life-my favorite of his.About him and his significant other finding better life and times in the future.Keeps its momentum throughout the whole song and he just goes all out.

Making Memories of Us-a nice soft song with really sweet lyrics.

God's Been Good to Me-Keith wrote this basically as a testimony of how God's blessings on him,which is especially special because of his past.

The Hard Way-takes a look at a relationship that's not working out,but nobody's walking away.I love the chorus.It's so sweet.

You're My Better Half-a catchy,upbeat song about the support and love he gets from his significant other.

I Could Fly-a "thank you" song to his love for making him feel alive.Interesting accompaniment.

Tonight I Wanna Cry-who hasn't heard this song?Heart breaking with the gorgeous piano and strings accompanying Keith's mellow voice.

She's Gotta Be-this is like a self beatdown for giving up this girl.I wasn't too impressed.

Nobody Drinks Alone-in (as far as I'm concerned)Keith's best guitar performance,he explains the empty feeling and guilt that comes with drinking.

Country Comfort-a song about home-grown country life.This was the only one in this album that I actually didn't like.The verses are pathetic.

Live to Love Another Day-an unusual breakup song in that it focuses on the positive-life goes on.

These Are the Days-basically a reprise of Days Go By.Starts off softly with profound and heart-felt statements about living life(The highest of flames becomes an ember)and gradually crescendos into Days Go By.
