[Scott Tinsely's] own peculiar brand of hip-hop [owes] a lot to the original ethos of the artform, but barely resemble[s] the rap music of today. He doesn't bother to employ a rapper.... Loosely affiliated to the Rockers Hi-Fi collective, Scott [Tinsley] shares the trio's love of mid-tempo grooves, vocal samples and straightforward track here, constructed around clattering drums. From thereon in, a sense of disorientation seeps in as he loots the scraps of his record collection to produce a personal music.

Boy Oh Boy-Am I Glad This Is In Print!.......2003-07-17

I have all my Evelyn "Chanpange" King on vinyl and this is one of my favorites.There are a number of fantastic
mid and down-tempo soul cuts here,my favorite being "The Other
Side Of Love" but the real power of this are it's first two cuts-
the tital song and "If You Want My Lovin'" and the B-sides equally frenetic "Spirit Of A Dancer" which prove not only how well King handles the decades newest dance trends after disco but
how powerful her singing continues to become."I Can't Take It" is
a solid funk number that displays all these qualities to fine
effect.From the young cleaning girl-turned-diva of the late 70's
"Smooth Talk"-era to this it is quite a journey for the budding
performer and it only gets better from here!

A good comeback.......2002-05-07

Evelyn King came back strong with this album. I'm in love, Don't hide our love are the standout tracks on this album.

The full title of this CD is "Tom Ardolino Presents: The Makers of Smooth Music (MSR Madness Vol. 2)". MSR Madness Vol. 1 was titled "The Beat of the Traps" and was released on vinyl only. But fear not, 12 of the 16 tracks from The Beat of the Traps are included here, with the remaining 4 tracks included on the MSR Madness Vol. 3 CD. So, what the heck does MSR Madness mean anyway? Well, MSR Records was the leading producer of song-poem records. Okay, so what are song-poems? They are lyrics which have been set to music for a fee. Typically, the service was promoted through small display ads in popular magazines, comic books, tabloids, men's adventure journals and similar publications with a headline reading (essentially) Send in Your Poems - Songwriters Make Thousands of Dollars - Free Evaluation. The term lyrics was avoided because it was assumed potential customers would not understand what the term meant. People who sent their poetry usually received notice by mail that their work was worthy of recording by professional musicians, along with a proposal to do so in exchange for a fee. The melodies were either improvised or recycled and musicians often recorded dozens of songs per recording session using minimal resources, often in one take. The recordings were then duplicated on 45 RPM vinyl singles or compilation LPs with dozens of other songs by amateur lyric writers. Copies were sent to the customer. Promises that they would also be sent to radio stations or music industry executives were rarely if ever kept -- partly because the recordings would not have been taken seriously by professionals. The practice played off the intense desire of unsophisticated people to realize their ambitions of making money from writing popular songs. In the 1990s, some record collectors "rediscovered" these recordings. The main attraction of them is how kooky some of them are. Some these songs have really bizarre lyrics and off-kilter performances. If you enjoy hearing oddball music, you'll probably get a kick out of this CD.

Volume 2 has at least 2 entries that are not in their extended (12" or LP) versions, though most are:

"Give Thanks" is a reggae song featuring vocals by Christian Provensen, Eric features his Electric Sitar and Monterey Elite Sustainer guitar on solos. "Rhythm in the Waves" is a disco song using whales and dolphins for vocals. It's a kind of "Saturday Night Cetacean" experience! "5 String Funk" is an Acid-Jazz Hip-Hop style banjo piece. "Out of Silence" qualifies as New Age and features an echo banjo solo. "Events" is an electronica dance tune using Windows 95 events sound samples. "Ethereal" is more electronica features voice samples of Julia T. "The Buttburp Bop" is a jazzy tune made from fart samples! "Recuerdos de Alabama" is a classical banjo piece written as a take-off of "Recuerdos de la Alhambra." I hope you enjoy some of these songs.

This music is Instrumental, HipHop-beats with some vocal inserts. There is some good Bass in the songs and compliments the Beat. I would like to know if there are similar tunes like these out there cause it Kicks all butt!
