5 out of 5 stars Livin' in the 80's!.......2005-10-03

GREAT CD set!! I'm once again living in the 80's!!! My favorites are White Lines, LaDiDaDi, and Joy and Pain. It doesn't get any better than this.....

5 out of 5 stars Good CD's .......2005-09-02

I got the box set for my birthday a couple years ago. All four CD's are pretty good. Some of my favorites are White Lines - Grand Master Flash, The Show - Doug E. Fresh, Childrens Story - Slick Rick, 6 N' The Mornin' - Ice T, Back to the Hotel - N 2 Deep, Freaky Tales - Too Short, and Aint no Future In Yo' Frontin - M.C. Breed.

5 out of 5 stars Old School Rap, Vol 1-4.......2005-08-16

This box set really took me back to the good ol' days of the 1980's. I literally dance all around my room when I listen to the CD's! Each rap reminds me of a fun and special time in my life. This is a great collection! So many of the old school rappers are represented.A+++!

5 out of 5 stars These young bucks don't know nuthin about REAL HIP HOP.......2004-10-22

I was looking at the reviews posted and I dont know what these people (kids) are talking about. I am a child of the 80's and I grew up listening to the songs on these albums. Every last one of the are bonafide hits-they rocked the parties I attended-and I still listen to them. Any real hip hop head would know not only the artists listed, (most of them have made songs that are considered classics) but they would also know the words to the songs. If you want a real education about real hip hop, buy this compilation. I didn't, because I already have all these songs, and most of them are on cassette-how about that. Don't let the other reviews deter you -these hits are timeless and were the hype before crunk and bling took over the culture.

4 out of 5 stars Unknown DJ?.......2003-12-16

Grandmaster Flash an unknown DJ? That's why one reviewer slammed disc three. Jeez. Anyone who says that doesn't deserve to get to get to write a review about old school hip hop. Seriously. Do your homework. This mix is far from his best, but the fact that Flash mixed it makes this valuable to any fan of old school.
Man, I am still scratching my head. How does one of the most important pioneers of hip hop get relegated to the title of "unknown dj?" I think it is fascinating to see what were his favorite tracks, given that he more than likely influenced many of them.

5 out of 5 stars i own the CD.......2005-05-24

this CD is really good. i am only 19, so i had never heard these songs, but found the CD in a CD case that was in one of my brothers friends car, that was about 8 years ago. i have listened to this CD ever since. if that is the correct spelling.
i like almost every one of the songs, it is great.

3 out of 5 stars So-so.......2002-07-30

There were only a few songs that I recognized and liked. The rest of the songs that I never heard of weren't so great. I would have given lower ratings but that would be pushing it too far.

    Yo AMAZON -
    What's the deal?!?!?!?!?!
All the sample soundbytes are completely wrong...
they do not correlate with the titles you've listed here.
I do love all these jams -- I grew-up w/ them back in Cali.
But it's irresponsible and very misleading to market the WRONG product!!!
Don't buy this without contacting the Z-Shop seller personally. Seriously!!!

5 out of 5 stars In the Beginning..........2001-06-10

Yes, the lyrics are lame and the beats are slow and bassic compared to the hyped-up modern-electro sound. But this outstanding collection of old-school rap is where it all came from. If you were or remain to be a fan of this genre or if you are simply looking to educate yourself about the roots of rap, then this collection is for you. I would also highly recommend Volume 2 and Volume 3 of this series (if you can find them - they are both out of print).

2 out of 5 stars This CD was okay.......1999-02-12

There were only 2 songs that I thought were any good,Radio Activity Rapp and Egypt,Egypt. If you are a fan of 80's rap then this is the CD for you.

2 out of 5 stars Overall qaulity of the CD was very good........1998-09-11

The beats that they were using were very powerful. Unfortunatly the lyrics were poorly written, which made the Cd half as good as it could of been
