5 out of 5 stars The Best Heavy D Album Period.......2006-01-24

I've been fortunate to have kept up with "The Overweight Lover" all these years but undoubtedly this CD stands out as not only his best, but a classic five mic album. This is when rap was fun and it wasn't all about nonsense beefs (see Game/50 cent, Nas/Jay-Z, Lil Kim/Foxy Brown), this was a time where if you couldn't rap, or you couldn't freestyle and step up to the plate when called out, you're career is done. Not like today where mushmouth rappers (50 cent & G-Unit, Fabulous, MA$E, and all the rest of those mushmouth, winey rappers we have today)can live large off one CD. Back then when it came to lyrics, Heavy D was right there in talent with the Big Daddy Kane's, KRS-One's, Chuck D's, Kool G. Rap's, D.O.C.'s, Ice Cube's, Biz Markie's, LL Cool J's, Kool Moe Dee's, Run DMC's of the worlds where skills actually made or broke your career, not crossover radio play. Where back then, it was frowned upon by other rap artists and fans alike for an artist to strictly make records to cross over. However with Heavy D, not only was he lyrically gifted, and had bangin tracks that radio just couldn't ignore to party to, but was one of the first rappers to incorporate reggae lyrics (him being of Jamaican descent) into his songs (Check out "Mood For Love"). While Run DMC shattered the charts with "My Adidas", Heavy was shattering the streets with "NIKE" just when the ORIGINAL Air Force One's was coming into their own. There's not a bad cut on this LP at all and Gyrlz They Love Me, is probably the banginest track on here.

Just to add one more piece to the Heavster's legacy, I can never think of one rap artist that ever had a foul thing or a bad thing or diss to say about Heavy D. Which is extremely rare in today's so-called rap climate. That goes to show not only the respect this man garnered from his peers, but he also gave that same respect back. This is what hip-hop was supposed to be about, being original, being skillful with the raps, and staying true to you without having to sellout.

5 out of 5 stars 5 stars for Hev Diddly Diddly Diddly D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2005-12-27

Before I go into a review of this classic, I'm gonna give props where props are do. First and foremost, Heavy D is probably the most criminally underrated rapper ever second to Grand Puba Maxwell. This brother was the complete package ( Versatile lyricist, Likeable Personality, Articulate, Original, could dance and got the girls.) It takes balls to be different, Hev proved that you make classic songs without being vulgar. Back to the review, Big Tyme ruled in the summer of "89". With Teddy Riley's production,Dapper Dan suits and patented leather shoes, Eddie F on the wheels of steel, G Whiz and T-Roy to the left and right, Hev was and still is the Man!

4 out of 5 stars Back when it was fun..........2005-11-22

to be down with Hip hop that wasn't about Killing or Murder, or how hard you fronting, sex, or how iced out you are. This was just about the groove, provided by my Man Teddy'New Jack 'Riley. For a Big Man, Heavy couldn't half move, and on this Joint there's alot to move to. Form Flexin, to Big tyme, more Bounce(Zapp sampled)to my own personable fav'You ain't heard nothin' yet'.Any New Jack fan needs this in their collection. My Favourite Heavy D and the Boyz CD.

5 out of 5 stars Heavy D at his best.......2004-04-27

Between this and his much later 'Blue Funk' were really the height of Heavy D's career.

This is a feel good rap/hip-hop from back in the day and I can say after all these years I can still listen to this album and enjoy it. Time hasn't fased it's quality or catchyness.

If you're into oldskool this CD is a gem.

5 out of 5 stars Heavy D lights it up.......2002-12-08

Every song on this album is good, and many are superb. It's fun hip-hop music that makes you want to get up and dance; no slow tunes here. Though not profound, Heavy D's rhymes are clever and he is a master of articulation. This is by far my favorite Heavy D album.

      Album Details

In April 1987, Slade's Final Studio Album "You Boyz Make Big Noize" (A Phrase Coined by Tea-lady Betty at Wessex Studios) was Released. Like Its Predecessor, Rogues Gallery, it was Bulging with Big Anthems and Monstrous Rockers. Perhaps the Strongest Tune is the Ballsy We Won't Give In. A Rousing Song of Resolution in the Face of Harshness, it Rings Out Like a Theme Song for the Band and their Inspiring Tenacity and is a Bona Fide Slade Classic. Meanwhile "Won't You Rock with Me" is a Portentous (Potential) Stadium Shaker and the Catchy "Ooh La La in L.a." Details the Period in 1984 When Don Powell (Named 'george' in the Lyric) was Briefly Headline News as the Boyfriend of Bob Dylan's Daughter ('miss Zimmerman') and Slade were in L.a. No Less Than Nine Bonus Tracks Include Four Different Versions of the Excellent, Swaggering Beastie Boys-style Rap-rock Single "You Boyz Make Big Noize", the Rare 12" Mix of "Still the Same" and the Festive Single "Let's Dance '88 Remix".

Van Bryant continues the new tradition of socially conscious Southern bass started last year by B-Rock & the Bizz's "My Baby Daddy" by closing the 69 Boyz's The Wait Is Over with a prayer titled "One God, One Judge," in which the rapping and producing mastermind keeps it real by remembering the time one of his cars got repossessed. Even without the song, this album would hardly be standard-issue boom music; the first song, "Roll Wit It," incorporates a syncopated Latin guitar lick into the expected chanting and whistle-blowing. Bryant also takes the time to show off some polished storytelling skills on "Catch 22," a two-minute masterpiece. The Wait itself is a goodhearted stroke of minor genius, proof that Bryant has hardly run out of ideas. --Rickey Wright

I origally got this cd for the song woof woof and I saw them in concert and they tore it up. They took their music to a different level on this one and have many different styles on this cd.some some dont song like bass music at all. Im not a big bass fan music but they still have some good song on here. I like #5,10,23(ft. jt money), 26 is one that I love. Too bad bass music went out and they faded away. Check this cd out.

This is absolutely without a doubt one of the WORST ablums I have ever heard. All they talk about is food. I like their song on the Dr. Dolittle Soundtrack and some stuff they did in the past. This was just BAD! Period. They should have done better. There were 2 other songs that I liked on here but other than that and the song from Dr. Dolittle. this was garbage. do not waste your money. I still regret it. well if you do wind up not liking it dont say I didnt warn you. They really messed up on this one. Better luck next time guys.

The MTV folks and people who have been promoting Houston rap really dont know anything about Houston rap. This is it right here along with ESG Ocean of Funk and Three in tha Mornin'. The DJ screw that is laced through this album is perfect and the old school street flava host cameo is only known by us H-towners. Depite all of that, there is no way someone should be selling this for $70.

            Product Description

If you've ever been listening to a Cash Money Records CD and thought you could rip the beat with your own freestyle, here's your opportunity. Great for karaoke parties, freestyle battles, or just to listen to! Featuring 24 of the biggest hits from artists like Juvenile, B.G., Big Tymers & more, in instrumental form. Many of these instrumentals were either only available on the 12" single of the particular song, or never previously released at all, making them all fairly hard to come by these days. Instrumentals like "Back That A** Up", "#1 Stunner", "Still Fly", "Project Chick", "Block Is Hot" & many more, will keep you coming back to this wicked collection for a good long time. A very limited number of these mixtapes were pressed, so grab it when you have a chance! [24 Tracks]
