Editorial Reviews
Larry Flick, Billboard Magazine
Remedy is the first white rap artist to break out of the ever-fertile Wu-Tang camp. He hits mighty hard on this edgy jam, on which he vividly traces the lines of racism and street honor atop a spare and harshly aggressive beat. A wafting jazz trumpet adds melodic flavor, adding a darkly hauntingquality to a track that will score high marks from genre purists. It should also connect with popheads interested in broadening their horizons. A solid first offering.
About the Artist
The Holocaust. Government conspiracies. Race relations. Look no further than the debut album from hip hop prophet Remedy to find answers, solutions and antidotes to societies ills. A sharp-tongued lyricist who embraces his Judaism in his rhymes and raps about everything from his personal life and experiences to social, moral and economic issues, Remedy is undoubtedly an MC to be reckoned with.
Determined to tell the truth, Remedy pours all of himself into every track. The result is an emotional collection of diverse tracks ranging from "Never Again," a song inspired by Remedy's Jewish roots, a moving anthem dealing directly with the Holocaust. Also "Girlfriend," Cappadonna and Remedy's collaboration that explores their cynical take on inter-personal relationships. On the track "Fallen Angels," Remedy displays his lyrical dexterity: "To the fake MC's who swear they could rap/To all those cats that love to talk yak/For all those white kids who want to be black/Love is still love yo/I got your back." Other highlights from the album include songs "Reuven Ben Menachum", "Ambush", "Therapy", " The Duelist", "Warning" and features cameos by Rza, Killarmy, and Inspectah Deck.
Remedy began writing songs and poems at the age of seven. During high school, Remedy took to the stage his rhyming skill and started rocking the microphone at local shows. Upon graduation, Remedy began recording at Northshore Soundworks, home of EPMD, Das EFX and Redman. There he spent many hours logging studio time and perfecting his production skills. After meeting Wu-Tang Clansman RZA in 92', collaborating began and a long term relationship was in the making. Already impressed with Remedy's lyrical and production abilities, RZA recognized his latest disciple as the genuine article. "Remedy speaks the truth, he speaks for justice and equality for his people, he's got the Wu in his heart." Remedy released the track "Never Again" which appeared on Wu-Tang's Gold-selling album The Swarm.
Remedy's first love has always been writing and music and continues to be the centrifugal force behind his undying passion and pursuits, open to go wherever they may take him. But for now, Remedy's focus is on his latest album, a truly profound collection of tracks that embrace Remedy's history, world view and a record that is forging a new path for hip hop. As Remedy says so eloquently, "Remedy isn't just a name, it's a way of thinking, a way of life... the solution."
