Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Smif-N-Wessun - Dah Shinin.......2007-03-24

After Black Moon dropped "Enta Da Stage" in 1993, people knew about Boot Camp was about. Then 2 years later in 1995, Smif N Wessun came up with a CLASSIC debut album! This is the second album to come out of the Boot Camp Clik. If you thought Black Moons "Enta Da Stage" was classic, then you HAVE to pick this up now!!

The lyrics on this album are on point all the way through. Words about life on the streets, fakes, and just all that hood and real hip-hop! Lyric wise, youll feel the same type of lyrics like those from Black Moons debut album. They wont dissapoint!

The production on this album deserves these words... Insanely dope! If you heard Black Moons first album, you knew that "Da Beatminerz" were on about every track, youll find the same thing here! Da Beatminerz are back for more DOPE beatmaking! I don't think there is one weak beat on this album, you got those heavy bass, and just straight bangers!

To sum it up, just like me tell you this. If you like Boot Camp, Black Moon, Heltah Skeltah or any of it, or good hip-hop, do not... I repeat.. do not pass up picking up this album! Its DOPE!!!!

I got kicked out of class for bumping this back in the day. Its true it only got 3 mics in the Source. Thats when I knew the Source was bogus. 12 years later Tek n Steele still keep their Timz n Hood Check. Don't get it twisted, this album is a classic in every definition of the word. If you slept on it then, don't sleep now. Make sure you cop Dah Shinin - you'll be glad you did.

Now I've heard of Smif-N-Wessun for sometime now. I actually got into them when they were the Cocoa Bovas and were signed to Rawkus Records back in the 90's and been a fan ever since. Then when I heard Black Moon's "Enta Da Stage" these guys were featured on songs on that album ("Black Smif-N-Wessun" & "U Da Man"). So I had to check this album out to hear what it was like.

This album is full of New York grimy cuts that sound fresh, even almost 12 years (damn, it's been that long???) from when it debuted. With rhymes like "...watch your lips and my boots make a french kiss...", that showed that this duo played no games at all. Most of their rhymes were about guns and smoking weed. Yeah, the subject matter was limited, but it was still great to listen to.There are a lot of gimey cuts on here that are rememerable like "Wrekonize" and "Wrektime". The song "Hellucination" is a story telling song while Tek & Stelle trade verses throughout about everyday life.

There are a few tracks to me that stood out right away when I first heard this album, and that was the posse Boot Camp Clik song "Cession At Da Doghillee" (Stelle kills that last verse), and the last track "Partners-N-Crime". Production wise is by the Beatminers, another reason why fans love the Boot Camp Clik so much.

Many say this album is better than Black Moon's "Enta Da Stage", and I have to agree (only by a small margin). Tek and Stelle do stand strong on their debut and come off to rhyme along any big time rapper back in '95. I seriously believe that this album was so underrated. If you get a chance cop this.

P.S.- Thoughout my time here on Amazon, I've seen atleast two Listamania lists here that said that this album received 3 mics in The Source Magazine. If that rumor is true, I'm pretty sure that reviewer was fired or received some harsh disiplinary action. That rating itself seriously borders on criminal.

And catch black eyes. This is when you had to have skills just to be recognized by the hip hop community. A damn shame those days is dead. This album is another east coast classic. This in my opinion outshines Black moon first album. If you into old skool east coast hip hop, cop this right away.
