4 out of 5 stars Explicit is best.......2004-04-21

I saw Genaside II open for Tricky a few years ago. It was a revelation They have always been an interesting group. It is headed by Kris Bones and they are based in Brixton. They are not really a Drum and Bass group but more like an "Electric Avenue" Electro group who also does film scores. They are a little like the Full Cycle crew because they have been haunting the London clubs with white labels for a dozen years. There has always been the distinct rapping of Killerman Archer. But this album doesn't rest on the past. Ad Finite was indeed a great album.

"Rest Your Soul" is a heavy chill out number which sounds like Massive Attack. It displays the great vocals of Mary Joy. Then it continues with a few movie soundtrack tunes which mix opera, ragga, and Lalo Schifrin. "Teng Chow Now" is an example of their new expansive sound. Some hard hitting songs like "Archer's Revenge" and "Trendsetter" sound as hard as anything from The Prodigy. "The Lost" sounds more like something on Warp Records. The beats are nasty and the mood is dark. "The Upside" is another great track which alternates between Archer and Mary Joy. A nod to Gil Scott Heron shows up on "Revolution Revised." Then you get to the final track and you have been on a great journey. Not a bum track in the set. This record works as singles no doubt. Genaside II is a band who is doing something unique which should gather attention.

4 out of 5 stars pretty good.......2004-02-09

You know, this is a very rare cd, and the band is not well known. My friend has this cd, and we were listening to this a lot. And I kinda like it. But it's not rock. I don't really know the genre.

The sound really reminds you of their first album "New life 4 the hunted" but Ad finite is even better!

5 out of 5 stars Maybe not the best of All Time, but definitely in the top 5.......2000-11-07

I've had this CD for quite some time now, and it has remained my favorite CD for the entire duration -- 10 months or so. I found that it had magnificent instrumentation and fearless originality unsurpassed in the electronic genre today. I do not consider it a dance "album," except to say that a few of the songs are danceable, but consider it to be perhaps the best listening experience of our generation. "The Genaside Will Not be Televised," is a stunning orchestral techno/breakbeat adaptation and remake of Gill Scott-Heron's "The Revolution Will Not be Televised" that serves as the grand entrance to this CD. It is followed by a series of jungle and breakbeat pieces, any of which could be danced to, but all of which suit the rocking chair far better. The CD reaches it's hard breakbeat climax at track 5 with "Mr. Maniac," the first single from the CD (although if you're looking for a single representational piece, check out "The Revolution will not be Televised" or "Bizarre Bleedin'") and then we are allowed to relax with an absolutely fantastic orchestral breakbeat piece (Bizarre Bleedin'). This exits into a somewhat darker, nearly gothic, set of pieces, followed by a pair of dark songs unparalleled in originality and excellence, #10 (forgot the name - maybe "Death of the Kamikazee") and the title track and ends on a slightly jazzy track 12. This CD is fantastic, impress your friends and amaze women (they flock to me now) with this amazing set from Genaside II.

I cannot recommend a CD more highly than this one. *Everybody* who has listened to it - and this includes people who are none too fond of electronic music - seems to like it tremendously, and I am convinced you will too. 5 unhesitating stars.

4 out of 5 stars Solid.......2000-04-14

Upon realizing that Tricky was on the CD, and that it was released under Tricky's label, i was admittedly concerned. While I find most of Tricky's music somewhat banal and generic, I have thoroughly enjoyed this album. The take on the Revolution Will Not Be Televised is interesting, lacking the same sharpness of the original, yet building to an impressive finish nonetheless.
