Cd review.......2007-06-09
The song that I first heard on my internet station was "Red Wine". I then decided to order the cd to see what other songs I would like. I was pleasantly surpised by the tracks.
Bad vocals..........2004-07-13
Although I find Tony Rich's vocals rather out of tune, there are some highlights here: 'Red Wine', 'Travelling Alone' and 'Don't Call Me' are good (in terms of melody)
The lyrics are sometimes a little out of place and stupid.
Maybe if he had put in better tunes, it would make up for the awful vocals.
In A Grand Tradition.......2004-06-09
Tony Rich is part of the school of black musicians such as
Vernon Reid,Prince,Terrance Trent D'Arby,Lenny Kravitz and the
immortal Jimi Hendrix who see no distinction between R&B,funk and rock n' roll-they're just classic black music to them. And
of course this album contains songs in ALL those styles. From
the hard rockin' "Future Daze" to the sublimely grooving "Free"
these songs varriate from hard to soft and back in the space of
15 selections. And I can't see ANYTHING but good come from that!
Third time, still lucky..........2003-10-14
Having shaken off the stagnation of his Arista shackling Tony Rich has regrouped and come back with another great album. While his last effort (1998's Birdseye) didn't contain much in the way of singles it was seen by fans as arguably better than the platinum, grammy winning Words. Now on Compendia Records he has room to breathe and without the wish to release singles can concentrate solely on making a consistent LP. His labelmate Terence Trent D'Arby has experienced a similar scenario as regards his artistically satisfying Wildcard Joker's Edition also.
Future Daze is a funky, edgy start on an album frequently more rock influenced (Read guitars high in the mix) than the past work. Free is a defiant manifesto for his post major label emancipation while Red Wine's groove recalls the commonly emancipated influence Prince's classic 1987 number Strange Relationship. Tony doesn't let down the fans as regards ballads either with the radio play success Travelling Alone. Don't Call Me's country twang and the plaintive When I Miss You are other examples of The Tony Rich Project's continual quality on the slower tempo material. There's even a chance to throw in a live track with Yeah! Yeah! taking us out in style.
Resurrected may not top any charts or permeate the mainstream (No singles or videos almost guarantee that) but it's quality cannot be doubted so critically he can expect great reaction like the reviews here demonstrate. With a live album and DVD in the works, The Tony Rich Project community is one to stay close with for the latest news, developments and releases.
Solid set.......2003-10-05
Before I begin, I have to say that it's tiring and annoying to see people with seemingly immature minds incapable of writing honest reviews at this Web site, giving seemingly everything four or five stars, coming off as some early teens bubblegum pop fan gushing over his/her favorite singer, whom they like because he/she is pretty, cute, etc. Even here on this thread, someone gives this album a four star and even admits they haven't heard the album. now onto my review.
Anyone following Tony Rich Project's career and hearing the group's previous two albums -- Words and Birdseye -- will know what TRP is about -- R&B soul, with a touch of Prince, Hendrix, and with a solid, artsy delivery that is good enough to make you forget about the product that is passed off as R&B on the radio.
So this album won't bring any surprises to TRP fans. It's more of the same, and that's not a bad thing. He does rock out a bit more on the guitar on the first few tracks, and then settles into his comfort zone, delivering his familiar style of mellow ballads that rely more on feeling, substance, and emotion than formulaic beats. And so while it won't wow you as perhaps "Words" had, it is worth getting. New fans should start with "Words." TRP always managed to move with his songs, and he (yes, despite the band name, this is about Tony Rich) accomplishes that here. When he is no longer moving in his delivery, that's when it's time to worry.

great album.......2002-07-02
This is the best rap album I've purchased in a while. The slow, melodic music combined with the fast-paced rap lyrics is addictive! It has been a frequent regular in my sound system since my purchase, and has me searching out their other albums.
G Maab's 2nd Best album.......2002-06-04
Guerilla Maab resurrected? Yup. This album recks. Trust me the album is the best rap album I heard out of O2'. Trust me this recks. It has Z-ro and Trea and Dougie D together again'. And they sound like they did their first album.

A little more funky..........2004-03-29
I have been a huge jacksoul fan since they got their start way back in 1996...while their first CD took a little time to grow on me, I adored Sleepless as soon as I bought it, and was still listening to it on a regular basis up until the release of their new album. Resurrected is another high quality offering from jacksoul, and i wouldn't expect less from them. While it is generally a little more upbeat than Sleepless(musically, not necessarily content-wise, there are some serious issues to be dealt with on this disc), it is extremely soulful and amazing. I love Haydain Neale's voice, and some of the tracks (especially Getting It On!!!! so fabulous) I could listen to over and over. I bought this album the day it came out and haven't stopped listening to it yet. While a couple of the tracks stand out more than others, it is definitely a cohesive album that hangs together quite well and there is never a dull moment. I can't wait until they (hopefully) come to town to promote it so I can have the complete jacksoul experience...don't delay, go buy this CD!

An Irish music fan's #1 band.......1999-06-22
Spectacular album - a perfect mix of ballads and jigs. Betsy's voice is wonderful on this album, especially in my favorite, "Lost Jimmy Whelan." Hope to see them in O'Flaherty's again some time soon!
Harmonizing blend of Irish music with jig and reel sets.......1999-01-17
Betsy McGovern and Patrick O'Flaherty have planted their Irish roots firmly into New Orleans' rich soil. This CD is not to be lumped in with some of the Celti-trash that has creeped in amongst the top 10. This is music with a deep heart, although touches of that old Irish humor can be found (track 16, "Elvis"). With guitar, bass, mandolin, bodhran, harmonica, shruti box, and more, they weave melodies - some sad, some upbeat - all rich and beautiful.
Betsy McGovern's voice is clear and strong, and her sweet high notes are so pleasing to the ear ("When I Sing About You"). "Lover's Last Chance" tells about an old house that is filled with the memories of its inhabitants' yearnings... Betsy's voice is haunting! "All Around My Hat" and the jigs and reels have my middle school students literally bopping and skipping around the classroom whenever we listen to it during our creative writing classes. "If music be the food of love, play on!" The Poor Clares are food for the soul.

Built Upon Frustration - Resurrected.......2007-05-07
This is what I'm talking about. Heavy heavy hardcore/metal. With a member from Pro-Pain too so you know its got the sick groove too. I'm a pretty big Hatebreed fan so by default I really enjoy the toughguy style of hardcore. This is heavier than Hatebreed does it. Down tuned open e and d riffs. Heavy heavy breakdowns. With lots of anger and sincerity. I also enjoy the few times that the lead vocalist and an additional vocalist do a dual layered scream a la Deicide. This is hardcore with death metal guts at heart. I'd have to say though I knocked off a star for 2 small reasons. One is the lack of really branching out from verse/chorus structure. 2 For the vocallist not opening up every now and then. Doing some screeches or such. That would be nice to vary it up. But all in all. Great stuff.

Album Description
Great songs are often considered great poetry, but with The Dead Poets, great poems also make great songs. A favorite verse, a catchy melody, a bit of harmonyput them together and you might hear something in the poem you hadn't heard before. The Dead Poets use music to transform classic poetry into a fresh and exciting experience, accessible to everyone. From Cummings to Dickinson, Wordsworth to Rumi, you'll love the way the muse in music brings out the Oh! in poetry.
Customer Reviews:
just get it.......2001-09-04
Get this CD. That's all there is to it. Why? Because it's terrific. Am I annoying you yet? The tunes range from catchy pop (Tyger, Crocodile Tears for example), terrific acapella numbers ( Daffodills, the haunting 3-part round of 100's Of ways), laid back country/folk (Rubbin' Brown Bellies) upbeat joyous singalongs (Blue Breaks Through) etc.etc.etc...
These guys are good, really good. Their musicianmanship (if there is such a word) brings established poems as well as their own compositions to a wonderful life. Listen to the samples. If you don't like this CD, well, then.........I'm just not sure about you. Then why are you here? Oh just get it!
P.S. There's a great unlisted coda
The best in literature and rhythm.......2001-08-09
I've never enjoyed poetry like this before! The Dead Poets offer a fun, toe-tapping take on classical literature that would make Emily Dickenson hide behind her chair. (Like in Emily Dee, where they let us know that every Emily Dickenson song can be sung to The Yellow Rose of Texas!) They weave the classics into modern lyrics in some songs (check out the sample of Crocidile Tears, which does Lewis Carroll proud). In other songs, they simply let the poetry stand alone, complemented perfectly by their melodies (Funeral Blues, by Auden). I've never seen another CD that can be enjoyed so much by both kids and adults. From the hilarious to the profound, these three guys' melodies will have you singing and dancing, crying and laughing from start to finish.

Ever since I got this CD, it's been in constant play in my car and in my stereo. The arrangements are wonderful, and make you think of the poetry in new ways -- it's like seeing new interpretations. The CD is also wonderfully produced, and sounds fantastic in a Dolby Surround Sound stereo system.
This is a great CD for lovers (and non-lovers) of poetry........2001-06-19
I haven't heard anything like the Dead Poets. They take great poems and turn them into great songs with a folk/bluegrass sound. They sound similar to Phish. There is a real focus on bringing out the rhythms already in the lines of poetry, thus the poems flow naturally and don't sound forced. I had "Tyger, Tyger burning bright" running through my head for days as if it were a catchy radio song. The beautiful harmonic developments and skillful instrumentation make this CD enjoyable to music lovers, as well as poetry lovers.
