1989's Straight Outta Compton, by Dre's previous outfit N.W.A., may have shined the public spotlight on the genre, but The Chronic legitimized it. That is not to say that Snoop Doggy Dogg (The Chronic marks his debut) and Dre's raps are for everyone; the subject matter is the sex, drugs, violence, and politics of South Central Los Angeles, and the phrasing is explicit, to say the least. But The Chronic's real genius is the music. By breeding hip-hop, jazz (studio instrumentation includes saxophones and flutes), funk, and soul (sampled artists include Parliament, Donny Hathaway, and Isaac Hayes), Dre creates downright intoxicating grooves. If you can't feel The Chronic pulsating through your veins, maybe your heart's not pumping. --Bill Crandall

5 out of 5 stars CD.......2007-05-08

I have bought this CD about 6 times in my life since it has always seemed to dissapear. I love this album!!!

5 out of 5 stars Classic.......2007-04-11

If you've listened to this, you'll know that the the subject matter is basically generic gangsta rap. I'll give you that there's some pure garbage gangsta rap out there (i think you know which people i'm talking aboutt here) However when its done right it can be amazing, and this classic proves that.

It's not my favourite of Death Row's classic era (All Eyez On Me) but definitely worth a listen. The skits are actually funny with some amazing g funk (which was the sub genre this album started) and some very catchy rhymes from all the Deathrow family, (Snoop, Tha Pound, Lady Of Rage)

The standouts for me are Nuthin But A G Thang of course), Lil Ghetto Boy (my personal favourite), Deez Nuuutz, Stranded On Death Row (fantastic compilation) and Dre Day (hilarious!)

5 out of 5 stars A CLASSIC.......2007-04-04

This is one of the best CDs ever recorded. Taking genre out and just rating CDs for their quality, from start to finish this is one of the greatest ever. The music under the lyrics, the flow, the groove, the lyrics, the production. A masterpiece.

5 out of 5 stars The Chronic.......2007-02-24

This is one of those albums that you will buy several times throughout your lifetime. I, myself, have bought this 4 or 5 times, twice when it was out on tape. I think Dr. Dre is one of the most intricate producers in hip hop. His production has been responsible for the igniting the careers of some of hip hop's finest. It's extremely accessible, yet still incredibly complex. His rapping is better than most of today's rappers. He has a deep, sort of laid back kind of flow. All of his lyrics are on point as well. This is stuff you can party to, as well as jam to by yourself. I understand that this record has been out for quite some time. I remember when it was released, long ago, I had to keep it hidden from my parents. I just feel it's my duty to encourage the new generation of hip hop heads to go back to their roots and see where a lot of the greats came from. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars the doc is in the house!.......2007-02-19

Dr. Dre and his death row team put together a landmark album arguably changing the face of hip hop forever. If you want to listen to amazing Snoop rap from back in the day, either Doggystyle or the Chronic are the album to listen to as the Doggfather is at his absolute flawlessness on both albums. Dr. Dre puts together an album that doesn't have one weak point, truly amazing!

5 out of 5 stars The Phenomenom called Death Row begins........................2007-02-06

Dre's gangsta funk production picks up where Niggaz4life left off with Parliament/George Clinton being added into the equation. Toss in a green Snoop Doggy Dogg and the rest is hiphop history. The Chronic struck at the right time months after the Rodney King verdict, the police aquittal, and subsequent riots and destruction of Los Angeles. The genius of the Chronic is that all of these cats were hungry including Dre, having just severed ties with NWA and Eazy E. The results were incredible with mainstream classics like Nutthin But a G Thing and F*ck with Dre Day. Hood Classics are pretty much the rest of the album. Cuts that still hit are Rat-a-tat-tat, Little Ghetto Boy and Stranded on Death Row.

5 out of 5 stars The blueprint for gangsta rap.......2006-12-07

Dr. Dre not only ushered in the G-funk era, he put the westcoast on his back and on the hip hop map. Coming out of a sour deal with Ruthless Records Dre decides to go solo and puts out the best album of his rap career. Standout Tracks: F*** WITH DRE DAY(Snoop and Dre diss the pants off Luke, Eazy E and Tim Dawg), LET ME RIDE, THE DAY THE N***AZ TOOK OVER, NUTHING BUT A G THANG, DEEEZ NUUUTS, LIL GHETTO BOY, A N***A WITTA GUN, LYRICAL GANGBANG(Kurupt and The Lady of Rage rip this track in half), STRANDED ON DEATHROW(more classic material) and B***HES AINT S***. Filler: None. Bottom Line: The Chronic is a gangsta rap classic that can never be duplicated unless Dre is doing the duplicating. 2001 was a great album but it couldnt touch this one at all. The lyrics(on this album) were superb and memorable, the production was top notch and the skits were pretty comical(especially the 20 Dollar Sack Pyramid LOL). Nothing but cd collection material here. Good times, good times.

5 out of 5 stars Masterpiece!!!.......2006-08-06

First up to all you haters, stop sniffing glue or whatever because its making you think one of the top rap CDs of all time sucks.
Now to the album. This is I believe the first album released by DeathRow Records and just look at how much of a hit it became. I only just recently added it to my collection but I know that there are many people who have had this since it came out, and are still enjoying it. This is a straight up gangsta party album. I'll tell you this, cali rap kicks a** and if you don' like it go to hell. This isn't the best rap CD of all time but its definitely one of the best. Well the production is absolutely sensational and it all the guest appearances are top. Their not talentless losers just trying to get publicity their actually really talented especially the legendary Snoop Doggy Dogg.
My ratings are the following
1. The Chronic (Intro) 10/10 Great, intros don't get much better than this
2. F*** Wit Dre Day 10/10 Classic, I can definitely see why this became a hit. Nothing but Snoop and Dre in this with sensational beats. How could you go wrong?
3. Let Me Ride 10/10 Another great hit, Dre is in all verses and the chorus is great. Beats are good to chill to.
4. The Day The N***** Took Over 7/10 Well its alright but I can't really say i'm a huge fan of this one
5. Nuthin But A G Thang 10/10 Classic, Again with only Snoop and Dre. The beats are bangin
6. Deeez Nuuuts 10/10 Big fan of this one. Not only has Snoop and Dre but it also has Nate Dogg
7. Lil Getto Boy 10/10 Another favourite, i'm telling you you just can't go wrong with a Dre and Snoop song. The beats are great and the chorus and verses are just as great.
8. A N**** Witta Gun 10/10 A solo by Dre, You can't really go wrong with a Dre solo either
9. Rat-Tat-Tat_Tat 10/10 Another tight track. Dre is in all verses and there is a great chorus by Snoop.
10. The $20 Sack Pyramid 0/10 A useless skit, too long and not funny at all
11. Lyrical Gangbang 8/10 The beats are heaps tight in this. However if it doesn't have Dre or Snoop it can't get more than 8/10.
12. High Powered 8/10 Again with no Dre or Snoop I can't give it more than 8/10
13. The Doctor's Office 0/10 Another useless skit just there to make the album longer
14. Stranded On Deathrow 9.5/10 Seeing there is no Dre I can't give it 10/10. However this is definitely one of my favourite. The beats are again gangsta as and it does have Snoop and all the other artists are pretty good aswell.
15. The Roach (The Chronic Outro) 6/10 Alright, a bit boring though
16. B****** Ain't S*** 9/10 The topic isn't so good. But it has Dre and Snoop and some tight beats.

Overall this is a top rap album. If you think your a real rap fan and you don't own this than think again. This is one of the albums that got gangsta rap started along with Snoop's legendary Doggystyle. Doggystyle is another album i'd recommend if you enjoyed this. I suggest you go pick both of them up now.
If your a real rap fan than you can't possibly be dissapointed. Are U A Real Rap Fan?

5 out of 5 stars a historical landmark.......2005-08-30

i was suprised at how quickly this album stood out for me. it is the album that really set the ball rolling in Death Row's position in making history.
the album begins with Snoop Dogg's little speech to state where death row stands, which he makes quite clear is on top.
the album is more or less consistent as hell. might i note The Roach's intoxicating funk.

if you dont have the attitude or an admiration for the attitude, you will not enjoy the lyrics of this album. guaranteed. Dre has alwayse been a premium N.W.A.

I was absolutely amazed how quickly the fatique I was feeling turned around after using these techniques. Not only do I have more energy, but I am also dropping weight and eating better. I have more energy to exercise and have been finding that I can get through the day without a nap anymore and have much energy to spare. I really enjoyed the cds. I have used some of the techniques and others I have chosen not to use, but I still am acheiving great results. I also enjoyed listening to Chopra's voice. It has a very soothing, relaxing appeal. He has a charming accent and a nice demeanor. Thanks so much for creating the program, I'm sure it will change my life!!!

    3 out of 5 stars 3.5 Stars.......2005-06-26

Now first off yes i do agree most of the rappers brought in to do this project are fake and Tha Realest does sound alot like Pac but thats not what im rating this by, i'm rating just by how good it is atleast in my mind but overall this actually isnt that bad of a cd although Death Row is dead and buried right now and are just trying to sign anybody to try and build their name back up(i.e. Petey Pablo) but this is the last release from ThaRow that you should have anything else is just garbage.

1 out of 5 stars Your NOT 2Pac, Your NOT Snoop.......2005-01-08

Tha row has always had great rappers come and go, but what happens when they run out of rappers? Hmmmm..... get fakes that think they are the original great death row rappers. Enter Tha Realest and Top Dogg. Neither of them are Pac or Snoop, but both sound exactly like them. Tha Realest even looks a lot like Pac (haven't seen Top Dogg). Then Top Dogg decides since he can't write his own rhymes (**he thinks hes Puff too**) he'll just try to copy one of Snoop's songs. Why not? He took everything else. I'm not sayin these rappers don't have skills, maybe they do, but, if you can help it, dont try to sound like legends in tha game is what I say, ok? I can't say that that's not there natural voice, but if it isnt, I got no respect for em. I just wanna know why they didnt throw Guerilla Black in the mix. What the hell? He claims west too.

    5 out of 5 stars Great Death Row compilation - 4.5 stars.......2004-11-19

Three years after he lost every big name on his label, Suge Knight seems to have found new inmates to run the west coast. With artists like Crooked I, Tha Realest, Swoop G, & Top Dogg as the main artists on here, although some may never have heard of them - it is still a great album. Production is top notch as you'd exprect from Death Row, and the guests are top notch as well. Has a few R&B songs on here but some gangsta sh*+ too as well as great disses that tha Row always has. As for the other reviewer, Tha Realest has been around since at least 1996 (check the Gang Related soundtrack he's listed as Tenkamenin) and is not an imposter (he can't help his voice sounds like 2Pac) and for Top Dogg - yes he is an imposter but still a good rapper. A must have rap album for fans of rap.

    DISC 1
    #1 - 7.5 (VK f/ Treach)
#2 - 8.5 (Tha Realest, Richie Rich, Scarface)
#3 - 9.5 (great song by: Top Dogg - almost the same song as Snoop's "Top Dogg Cindafella" off his "No Limit Top Dogg' album - definitely made to try and piss off Snoop)
    #4 - 8 (2Pac {R.I.P.} f/ Kadafi {R.I.P.} - also put on 2Pac's "Better Dayz" album)
    #5 - 7.5 (e-40, Mac-Shawn f/ Daz Dillinger)
    #6 - 4 (VK)
    #7 - 7 (Mac-Shawn, Daz Dillinger, Tha Realest)
    #8 - 9.5 (great song by: Swoop G - dissin' Snoop Dogg)
#9 - 10 (classic dis song by: Tha Realest, Swoop G, Lil C-Style (also the same verse he has on Swoop G's 1998 album from the song "Bustas" - disses Snoop Dogg, No Limit, Master P, Tha Dogg Pound)
    #10 - 10 (Classic by Soopafly)
    #11 - 3 (Danny Boy & K-Ci)
#12 - 6 (Tha Realest, Danny Boy, Jewell)
#13 - 9.5 (great song by Top Dogg)
#14 - 7.5 (Daz Dillinger, Kurupt (Tha Dogg Pound), Tha Realest)

I don't get you wack haters out there, this cd is [almost] a masterpeice . It could of been better, but it was pretty good. Except I wish it had more official rappers on it. The only ones were 2pac and soopafly the rest were fake. but who cares? This was a cool cd!

    5 out of 5 stars Amazing.......2006-03-10

First of all, I would like to say that I have never given anything five stars. In fact, I registered on amazon for the sole purpose of reviewing this album and trying to get other people to enjoy this album as much as I have.

This album is fantastic. The style of music these guys have come up with is very original, and is quite a different than any other rock-rap out there in some way that I cannot quite put my finger on. Their mixture of catchy rhymes, explosive choruses, and beautiful melodies is flawless. The lyrics are thought out and mean something to the band, ones you have to actually think about to appreciate. Every song on this CD is stellar. I am not sure where I first heard this band, but I know the first song I heard was Stop Pretending, which I quickly bought on itunes. Then somewhere else I heard Time and Time Again and World Keeps Spinning and I was hooked. I got the rest of the CD. Other standouts are New York, NY and Thank You (my favorite).

I have listened to quite a bit of rock-rap, from the Chili Peppers to Linkin Park, and I am convinced that this album tops them all. If you are into any kind of rock or rock-rap and are ready to stomach a musical experience unlike any other, please buy this CD and support these artists who have spent so much time in my CD player.

    5 out of 5 stars crazy album.......2006-02-04

i mostly listen to metal, but chronic future attracted me a few years ago...and ive liked them since. this album is very creative...mixing elements of punk, rock, hip hop. my favorate tracks are ''Static on the radio'' and ''New York, NY''...but all the songs are very good, and the only track i skipped was the last song...so overall a great album

4 out of 5 stars They Rock... You've never heard of them..........2005-09-13

I was reccomended to Chronic Future by a friend so I checked them out, I downloaded a couple tracks(Legally) to give a listen too, and I was pleased to say the least!!

To try to sum up Chronic Future is no easy task. The best you can try to do is label them as a strange concoction mix of Linkin Park and Hoobastank. Combining skilfully Hard Rock, with a slight trace of metal, and screaming, and then some catchy pop chourses? Odd, no?

Some of my favorite songs from this album have to be New York, NY, Thank You, and Wicked Games.

    5 out of 5 stars Chronic Complainers...Cry Me A River.......2005-05-19

First off, I'd like to comment on the guy's statement below. Is it you hate the band and their music or you hate the fact your girlfriend likes them? I sense a little jealousy there. She obviously picks out better cd's than you.
If I knew how to get my hands on Chronic's older stuff you bet I would! C.F. does a great job of displaying talents and emotion, key ingredients to making the "perfect" cd. I never find a song of their's boring or unoriginal. They are true artist!
I first heard this band just searching through BMG. I realized the rapper sounded alot like Eminem(listen to track 2). He makes and breaks the band I hate to say, at least, he makes them stand out beyond other punk bands. Overall, he does a good job, deserves more time with the mic, and should expand his talents. Come on man, eminem's sound with someone other than eminem is priceless mix in rock music it's dYnO-mIte! I can imagine these guys coming back with an even stronger cd. They seem without limitations or lack of creativity.
With C.F. you really get your moneys worth! This is one of few bands out there that have 2 lead singers!? Imagine how cool that sounds! Two totally different styles that work together. A bigtime stand out cd that is everything I ever expected it to be and everything I claim it is!

4 out of 5 stars Be Real! People Come on!!.......2005-03-06

I hate how everyone just bags on talented Musicians. ok i had to get that out. I bought this cd When i heard time and time again on MVP Baseball 2004 and then i saw them in concert here in Arizona were they are from and let me tell you.. These guys are energetic as you can get. They put on such a good show that put chills down my back. Now I give the cd a 4 because most of the cd has good upbeat songs that are catchy and are fun to listen too. some of my favorites are shellshocked, Stop pretending, and Static on the Radio. Im a fan of Hawthorne Heights and more emo/screamo sound but i alos like old punk like Rancid, Lagwagon, Bouncing Souls and more but Chronic Future has a unique sound that i just like. Dont rag on these guys they work their asses off to get to were they are now and they are definately bringing in more money than u guys that rag on them. ok i recomend people to go buy this cd

4 out of 5 stars Up an Coming.......2001-03-17

Chronic Furture, as a band seems to have matured immensely with their album 4 Elements. Singer Mike Busse in particular brings energy and extraordinary vocals to this cd. The lyrics are all positive, not violent and still cool, which is fairly revolutionary in today's musical world. You have to give ups to anyone that can write such excellent words, put it with music that spread good vibes and is also rocking hard core, all at the same time. These boys have done it. I recommend this to anyone who listens to Rage Against the Machine and Limp Bizkit, but urge everyone to give it a try as Chronic Future defines themselves seperately from any other band out there. I am even more excited to see what they come up with in the future. After hearing this album you know these guys are only going up.

5 out of 5 stars My boys recorded a great cd!.......2001-02-04

Hey guys I'm friends with the guys in Chronic Future.Well not all of them, just Ben and Mike. These guys live out here by me and Arizona and I talk to them all the time and I im them on AOL and all that. This is a great cd and all should buy it and support the Chronic boys!

5 out of 5 stars Chronic Future is the future.......2000-11-28

The first time i heard "Come Correct" i was amazed! The band is freaking sweet. Every song on this CD simply rocks. If your are looking for a CD that you will never stop listening to buy this.

5 out of 5 stars 'Chronic' is no illness.......2004-07-13

This album came to me in a used-record-store 25$ grab bag in 1999. Of the 30 or so cd's stashed inside, this excellent album is the only one that did not get tossed in the rubbish. From the uniquely heavy opening tracks 'Insomniac' & 'Surreal', I was instantly hooked. No snoozer here, as the music style jumped from metal to a sex-pistols' type of anarchist punk in at least 3 anti-police tracks. 'Scottsdale' proves to be the favorite here, with hilarious social commentary in the lyrics giving a full thrashing to the pathetic 'gangsta' scene of the late 90's.
All this combined with tight production & a unique sound makes this a must-have in any rock/alt collection.

4 out of 5 stars Chronic Future know how to party.......1999-12-27

The Collins brothers from this band had a party at their house once, and let me tell you, that scene was crazy. There was more grass there than on all the green plains of Ireland. I mean, really, it got to the point where no one knew what the hell was going on, we were all so bombed.

P.S.: The trampoline was pretty cool too.

5 out of 5 stars they are good for being a bunch of teens. incredible!.......1998-07-12

They are incredibly gifted with talent. I'm from Scottsdale (where they originated), and nobody would of thought that there band would get anywhere, but they have and I'm very proud. They kick!!
