5 out of 5 stars Extraordinary Ska Band!.......2006-06-22

Easily one of the best ska bands to date and are actually still touring and producing tunes. This album really showcases how damn good these musicians are. The 1st track, "Wasted Days" is a damn killer way to open up things. It really sets the mood throughout the rest of the album. Every track on this album is consistently good. I find myself either nodding along, shoulder groovin, skankin, or singing off key to the lyrics. Incredible musicans and Vic's voice is buttah. Buy This!

Fav tracks: Wasted Days, Old Days, Midnight Rendezvous

5 out of 5 stars really GOOD........2006-06-07

this is just an amazing album. i haven't gone 2 days without listening to at least one of the songs on it since i got it a few weeks ago. i can't really say enough good things about the album, so i'll just say go buy it and groove on to the groovy goodness.

5 out of 5 stars groovy rocksteady beats.......2006-05-10

I don't think this is the best offering from The Slackers, but they're such an amazing band that this definetly still merits five stars. I really like the title track, "Walking On," "Midnight Rendezvous," "Wanted Dead or Alive," "Please Decide," "Easy" and "Dave's Friend," but most of the tracks are really good. Good variety of sound, it's pretty solid all around but I liked Redlight better.

5 out of 5 stars Old school reggae jams..........2004-11-24

The Slackers are the perfect cure for the mess of punk/ska/crappo bands out there now. They sure do it right.

This album is very remeniscent of old reggae and dub classics. You can hear the Lee Perry and the Bob Marley in this album. Along with incorporating that old school flavor, on songs like (my personal favorite) "The Nurse", they manage to fuse just enough new school punk into the mix so it sounds like something new and fresh. I'm very excited about this band and they are on Hellcat Records too which is badass.

If you've heard anything about these guys, pick up this cd first. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

5 out of 5 stars Not bad, but not their best........2003-06-21

After listening to "The Question" 100+ times, I desperately needed to find more Slackers. So I went to the store hoping to find "Redlight" (since I've heard a few great songs from it) but bought this and Hepcat's "Right on Time" (another beautiful album) instead. When I first listened to it, I actually hated most of it (except a handful of songs), thinking it wasn't nearly as good as "The Question." Then, I listened to it a couple more times and grew to appreciate it by itself, and realized trying to compare it is a bad idea, since a band's music should change and evolve.

Wasted Days starts off with the killer title track, one of the few I liked from the start. It features Vic's best vocal on the album and a kickass bassline. The next song Henderson Swamp, took some getting used to (what is that instrument in the intro??) but it's now one of my favorites. Next comes Please Decide, featuring Marq on vocals and is reminiscent of the swing/ska of "Sarah" and ends with a gospel chorus. Pets of the World had a kind of dub/reggae feel to it with lots of echo effects and contains some toasting from DJ Mush One (aka former trumpeter Jeremy Mushlin). Dave's Friend is probably the strongest song lyrically, with nice slide guitar a lyrics about looking out for your friends.

So This Is the Night sounds like a "Question" retread (albeit a good one). "Made Up My Mind" breaks some new ground as the only ska song I've heard to feature violin, which adds alot to the haunting melody. After the inane, rather pointless Sermon, the album gets back on track with The Nurse, a fun live favourite with odd lyrics (someone tell me what exactly it's about) and a bouncing rhythm. Old Days has a great 1+ minute intro (good sax from Dave Hillyard) and classic lyrics. Midnight Rendezvous may be the best song on the album, and possibly the best they've ever done. It's a soulful Drifters-esque track, sung wonderfully by trombonist Glen Pine. Tales of the Mongoose is a cool instrumental with a great title, Easy is quality, and the album 'ends' with Walking On, a very unmemorable track. After a strange break, the album comes back with "Wanted Dead or Alive," a good Bon Jovi cover, and my other favorite on the disc: "Information Error," a 6 minute dub-flavored masterpiece (also featured on Hellcat's third Give 'em the Boot sampler).

While this is a very good album, I'd say get The Question and Redlight first. Also, if you like The Slackers' sound, get all of Hepcat's albums, too. And the Stubborn All-Stars. Recommended.

Mr.Lil One AKA The Greatest Chicano Rapper In History, Proves that after 2 releases, He's still on top of his game. "Wasted Days And Wasted Nights" is a more mix of Mr.Lil One not just his devilish side. It got a couple party type tracks but not to partyish, and has a couple songs to ride to, and the others are Mr.Lil One Himself Mr.666.

Though I'm not into the devil at all, I really like Mr.Lil One's Music and glad that he's around. He makes people that are big in this game look like ants comparded to what Mr.Lil One has to say. His Flow, His Lyrics Are Truly One Of The Greatest To Ever Hit the face of the earth.

My Three Personal Favorite Tracks Are: "Never In Your Life", "When You Hear The Rain Falling", And "The Devil Did?". The why Mr.Lil One raps, no one can compare to. The Only person more Rawer then Mr.Lil One and that's Brotha Lynch Hung, On the same level though there very different in lyrics.

I Advise you get this CD asap, becasue not many are around these days, you gotta find one before, you can't, or your going to miss out on a great release.

4 out of 5 stars Country Rock Keeps Rolling.......2006-11-01

Remember "country rock"? This album defines it, or should I say redefines it. I am a bit tardy reviewing this album but,I just heard it for the first time a week ago. I haven't heard edgy, distinctive, country sounds like this since I got turned on to Son Volt several years ago. Mr Gleason and friends might not get an invitation to join The Eagles at The Hotel California but, they would have one heckuva hoedown with Pure Prarie League, Gram Parsons and The Flying Burritto Bros., The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Dwight Yoakum, Emmy Lou and the rest. Don't waste another day, seek, find, and buy this CD

5 out of 5 stars These cats are the real poop!.......2003-11-19

All I can say is buy this CD and you won't be disappointed! Check them out live sometime if you get a chance. Forget all the Graham Parsons/Buck Owens comparisions...this band as original as it gets these days. Rock solid rhythym section and profound lyrics. ....

    5 out of 5 stars Dave Gleason"s Wasted Days.......2003-08-12

Dave Gleason's Wasted Days cd has just made it on my top 10 list. Dave Gleason and his band have truely brought back outlaw music at it's finest, kept it real and made it their own. I love me some country music, make it old, new, blue grass or alt. I sure hope we keep getting more people who are hip to the old sounds and keep it alive. Dave Gleason's Wasted Days will make Waylon, Willie and even Gram happy. If i'm not mistaken this is Dave Gleason's Wasted days debut CD besides.

Hot ,Sweet, Cool, keep it up!

Have seen this group live a few times,AAA Class act.Not many cats love and live the guitar as much as Dave Gleason does.
Alot of brothers are still going through the motions but Sir Dave still belielves in the power of a 6 string and is not afraid to take you on his journey.Grab this cd and enjoy and prey that Dave and his Wasted posse follows this one up with a double live release. They are that good.

4 out of 5 stars Glad For Wasted Days.......2007-03-24

I am so glad to have discovered Dave Gleason's Wasted Days recordings. I can hardly believe my ears. The listening experience is like something out of California country rock's Twilight Zone,or perhaps, Back To The Future, which is saying something good.
Despite occasional surfacings of outlaw fringe and "trad" country the basic fluff-country pop sounds emanating from Nashville studios are odviously here to stay. The writers and "artists" have long been preaching and selling to that great mass middle ground common denominator. Everybody's happy, right? Wrong.

Review the reviews of this DGWD recording and the first. Gleason and his Wasted Days have been name dropped in to a pot of the finest honkytonkin',country rockin' alumni, and not without good reason.

If you're out searching for the next Gram Parsons, Dwight Yoakum, John Dawson, Buck Owens I gaurantee you will be glad to have discoverd the recordings of Dave Gleason's Wasted Days.

5 out of 5 stars Country music for people who aren't morons........2006-01-31

I don't have much to add to the previous review, mostly just nod my head in agreement. The 'Flying Burrito Brothers' are definitely conjured up here, only 'Wasted Days' rocks out more and Gleason has a better voice than Parsons. Kind of like if Parsons had been backed up by Tom Petty's band or the Jayhawks. This is first rate cosmic country, furthering the trail blazed by Gram Parsons, New Riders of the Purple Sage and the Grateful Dead. The next time I find myself in a bar full of trailer park cowboys and bikers I hope Dave Gleason's Wasted Days are on the stage.

5 out of 5 stars Closest thing to Gram Parsons.......2004-03-10

This guy Dave Gleason just blew me away with his new record "Midnight, California".

This guy is the real deal, nobody else has played California Country music this good in a long, long time. Nobody has played country rock this well in a long, long time.

His first record just called "Wasted Days" by the way included an unreleased Gram Parsons cover called "Funky String Quartet".

Getting back to the new record..
Listening to Dave reminds me a little of Gram, Wynn Stewart, and even a little Dwight.. but most of all he's very similar to Gram. This guy could even be a better songwriter than Gram was.

There is also some beautiful harmony on this record.. one song that sounds like an early Bee Gees song with twang.

You have to pick this record up, it's an instant classic.
