Album Description
On his second solo outing, NYC's BLOCKHEAD, who's best known as top-shelf hip-hop producer for AESOP ROCK, CAGE, et al nourishes his beat with layered electronics, delving into DJ Shadow-esque weaves of city-scapes and rolling headnodica which lends itself more to the electronic/composition set than any of his previous instrumental production.
Comes with a bonus DVD of short films based on the music from his last LP, "Music by Cavelight."
Customer Reviews:
Don't listen to people that tell you "don't listen to this"........2007-02-14
Blockhead is the real deal. Sure, he's not the best of the best, but is certainly a force to reckon with in the trip-hop scene.
This CD is very good. I especially liked "Crashing Down", "Expiration Date", "The Art of Walking", and "Long Walk Home" - these are my favorite tracks.
The Block Is Hot {4 Stars}.......2006-12-10
Normally, it's a pretty arduous task for an artist to follow up a brilliant debut album with, at the very least, equally potent material. That doesn't seem to be the case for Blockhead. While Downtown Science is on par with Music By Cavelight, the sound is distinctly laid back. Blockhead crafts smoky, mellow themes that were inspired by his native town, Manhattan, New York. While there isn't as much joie de vivre this time around, there is plenty of originality oozing from this set. It just comes from a different angle this time around. Think of this Blockhead release as more of a side step than a step backward.
Don't listen to these reviews.......2006-08-21
This is an underwhelming album in every sense of the word. There are a few flashes of brilliance, but that is it. Listen before you buy, you will thank me.
Must be a blockead to not dig this is album.......2006-04-23
I loved music by cavelight. But this is superior in style and the beats sound less computer generated then cavelight was ***************************************thats how many stars i give this lp
you might need to buy new speakers.......2006-02-20
small whimpy speakers won't allow the listener to fully experience blockhead's delicious robust beats presented as the main course for this album. excellent samples and song construction highlight the beats perfectly. i would say that he sounds more like rjd2 than shadow, but definitely in a class of his own.

A Surprise Hit Album.......2006-07-03
Yeah, I know, you probably see the album cover and think this album is [...] WRONG!!!! This album is very good with exceptional lyrics and awesome bass booming beats. Songs like, "Room to Breathe" and "This is a Visit", are the cream of the crop; along with "Natural People" and "Radioactive" not too far behind. The best part about this album is the rap songs that make you want to kick back and chill to, like "Catch the Wave" and "Summertime", which are also great to listen to during the summer months. So, if you are looking for some good rhymes and some soothing bass beats without all the curse words, then this is your type of album.
It's a crime this album didn't get more notice........2006-02-16
If you want to hear visionary hip hop before El-P start with his sound, listen to this album.
Bosco Money rhymed like few others did at the time (as well as today) and Sam Sever's production was years ahead of its time.
Pick up this album.
