Product Description
Miami, FL-- While the South is currently home to the Crunk movement, Miami natives Basic Vocab (consisting of emcees JL Sorell, Mental Growth and producer Tony Galvin) harkens Hip Hop fans back to its golden age by molding politically tinged themes and feel good vibes, into a contemporary and utterly refreshing sound with their debut The General Dynamic. While emcees JL Sorell and Mental Growths dynamic chemistry is anything but Basic, their working-class mentality and topic-matter will certainly appeal to the 9-5er. Though the LPs lead-single, Come Get With It is a breezy lovesick ode that is sure to have hips gyrating and heads-nodding, JL and Mental Growth are just as apt at discussing the current state of affairs, as over a cascading synthesizer, compare ghetto survival tactics to the ongoing saga in the Middle East on Fallen One. Similarly, JL and Mental Growth also ponder the checks and balances of Big Brother on Watching You as we know theyre watching us, but whos watching them Mental Growth ponders. And on The Trap Mental Growth takes on the imagery and marketing tactics being (mis)used on artists for profits sake. While JL Sorell and Mental Growth use The General Dynamic as a platform to fully introduce themselves to the Hip Hop populous at large, the groups sound architect, Tony Galvin already has a few Platinum plaques on his wall, as he has produced hit singles for Trick Daddy (Shut Up) and Trina (Baddest Bitch). One of the most talented upstart producers in Hip Hop, its Tonys versatility that sets him apart, rather then make artists conform to one particular style, Tony is able to craft beats that fully compliment the artists he is working with; and that again rings true on The General Dynamic. Tony recently produced six tracks for Dave Ghettos Love
Life? LP and he also has a production deal with T.I.s Grand Hustle/Atlantic imprint, which saw him also produce six tracks for P$Cs (T.I.s group) 2005 debut 25 Ta Life, including Walk To Me featuring Cee Lo and F*** Where You From featuring Young Jeezy. Tony will also be lending production (U Know Who) to T.I.s LP King and the soundtrack to T.I. and Big Bois movie vehicle ATL. In addition, Tony has also recorded tracks for forthcoming LPs from Lil Scrappy, Quan, Dirtbag, Rick Ross, Dead Prez, Young Jeezy, Cee Lo, Luke and is currently working on his forthcoming Boeing Instrumental LP.

Great 1st CD!.......2007-02-16
The General Dynamic by Basic Vocab does the hip-hop I like - conscious, melodic, intelligent and funky. This is a great CD to have to just chill or while on the go. Buy it! You won't be disappointed!
dynamic beats.......2006-07-07
if you like classic's like slumvillage's Fantastic, vol. 2 then you will like this one!!A very good start from basic vocab......
Outstanding.......2006-06-19
It's not very often there is an album where EVERY track is a banger, but this joint is just that. If you love or just appreciate music, this album is for you. Should definitely be a classic just for beats & rhythms alone (lyrics aren't bad either).

Chops: top notch .......2007-03-04
I've only just heard this joint (March '07) and wished somebody had given me a heads up when it first dropped.
Yeah, five out of five. Chops is a class act and there is not one wak vocalist on the compilation.
The main reason I picked it up was for the Mountain Brothers track, being a big fan of 'em, which should give you an idea of my preferences for hip hop. Underground, smooth and melodic. This album, I believe, sways to a mainstream sound, predominately cause it sounds so slick. Orchestrated beats, nothing overly simple (not that there's anything wrong with that. some of my best friends are overly simple), but still head nodding.
This producer has talent.
All the vocals are top notch, obviously I have preferences, but I won't bother hanging them on you. Check it for yourself.
OK, we know you're good already!.......2005-05-11
Chops' debut album is indeed a display of virtuosity. He demonstrates the ability to craft beats for both underground (Ras Kass, Bahamadia, and his old cohorts The Mountain Brothers) and mainstream (Kanye West, Raekwon, Talib Kweli) MC's, yet maintain an individual sound (very musical, sample-free production that's heavy on arpeggios).
Chops seems anxious to establish his skills, as the album has nine musical interludes that act as prefaces to songs. The interludes show off Chops', well, chops - faux classical? Soundtrack melodrama? Jazz noir? Chops does it all with ease. The interludes are tasty and short, yet kill the momentum between songs (at least they aren't skits!). Minus the interludes, the album becomes a formidable succession of bangers.
This album is off the hook.......2004-04-05
I bought this album after I heard the song with Raekwon on the radio. The album is off the hook. It's one of the best rap albums I have bought in YEARS. Chops is one of the sickest prodcuers out there and Raekwon, Kanye West, Talib Kweli and Phil the Agony all came with their A GAME. I think Virtuosity is the best album this year and Chops is now my favortie producer. The RZA is right, "Chops is one of the illest up and coming producers in the game"!!!
Greatest.......2004-03-31
One of my favorite cd's. Great collaborations with both mainstream and underground artists.
ThE BuTchER HaS aRRiVeD!!!.......2004-02-23
If you haven't heard of him, you will soon! Chops comes with virtually SAMPLE-FREE producing unique to the game. There are other producers out there that come to the table with their own beats, however when you listen to Chops, you instantly hear how much more his beats musically elevate over the rest of the masses-NO JOKE. The Butcher is not weak at all. He's getting mad respect in the underground game and it's only a matter of time before he rises to DR Premier/Swizz Beats-like notoriety.
This album was produced with a breath of fresh air. Hot beats, hot underground hip-hop acts, and a splash of some platinum lyricists. All in all, YOU WILL BE IMPRESSED! This is one of the best hip hop albums in the past year.

Good Stuff.......2005-06-29
Phil the Agony has a great flow, when I saw this album in the stores I copped it right away. Solid solo from one of the best lyricists from the West Coast Underground. Nice guest appearances and good production to. Highlights:
#1 Aromatic Intro/Tha Opera
#7 Thousand Words feat. Raekwon and Self Scientific
#9 For the City feat. Talib Kweli
#11 Pat Jenkins feat. Planet Asia (favorite track on the album)
#12 Easy feat. Krondon (from strong arm steady gang)
Cop this album and turn it up.
Phil is Real .......2004-12-08
The new Aromatic album is banging, especially the beats! Thanks to DJ KHALIL, E-SWIFT and a few others on production. Phil is pretty tight on this freshman release; although chop & stop flow is kind monotonous after a few songs. BEATS are ON POINT though, and some pretty cool samples. Album would've been alot better if we heard some TASH or J-RO on there, they're no where to be found on this album. Overall, album is tight. One Love to Likwit Crew affiliates. Peace

Not of the "Happy Hardcore" genre........2006-08-23
I've been tricked! Happy Hardcore is supposed to be a genre of techno that's fast, bouncy, and full of high-pitched female lyrics. This had none of those things. False advertising! I want my money back!
(Of course, I got the CD for free, so I guess I don't have any room to gripe.)
