Album Description
Dick Bartley, the best-loved oldies DJ in America, presents 18 tracks from the Golden Age of Top 40, a wide open era when bubblegum pop like Boyce & Hart's "I Wonder What She's Doing Tonight" could play alongside crazed psychedelic rock like Arthur Brown's "Fire." In these days of narrow-casting and micro-formatting, Dick Bartley helps us remember what made 60's radio so great.
But the fun doesn't stop there! Dick throws in Janis Ian's controversial protest classic, "Society's Child," the Silkie's Top 10 Beatles cover, "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away," Sir Douglas' stoner travelogue, "Mendocino," and Desmond Dekker's 1969 freak reggae smash, "Israelites." Classic Oldies 1965-1969 collects the wildest, best music possible, mirroring the great Top 40 stations of the late 60's.
Classic Oldies 1965-1969 has been digitally mastered in true stereo wherever possible. Many songs, such as the I'des Of March's "You Wouldn't Listen" (released years before their best-known hit, "Vehicle") are sought-after rarities, and one track, "Peter Rabbit" by Dee Jay & The Runaways, makes it's CD debut. Two other tracks, Procol Harum's "Whiter Shade Of Pale" and the Troggs' "Love Is all Around" although widely released, have never been available in STEREO in the original versions - until now!
Customer Reviews:
A great collection of classic oldies.......2007-07-30
I first began to listen to Dick Bartley's syndicated radio show, "Solid Gold Saturday Night" over 20 years ago while in college. I had always been impressed by his presentation and knowledge of musical trivia. Now he has compiled these classics into a CD. While I think the music speaks for itself: The included CD liner also has nice tid bits of information. For those of us who enjoy the Golden Age of Top 40 music, this is a great collection, with some rather difficult to find tracks. I bought it specifically for the tracks from New Colony Six, which are hard to find.
Dick Bartley plays Casey Kasum.......2007-04-14
Here are some of the long forgotten songs of the late 60's pop scene, revisited upon us.
Don't get me wrong, most of these songs I liked back then and still like now. Especially the long forgotten beautiful love ballads by The New Colony Six. (who were they?) But you will remember the songs if you preview listen to them. The incentive for me to purchase this collection was to aquire the song "Peter Rabbit" by DJ and the Runaways. (who were they?) Such "novelty songs" were rife in the 60's pop culture. Flashes in the pan and then forgotten. But they were OUR music back then intertwined by the thousand Coke, Pepsi and Marlboro commercials blaring at us through all those transistors!
Surfing through this collection brought back to me so many songs in my past. Surprises abounded as I reminisced. The only song in this collection I didn't like was "The Clapping Song." Please, let dead things lie in peace, before I throw cockroaches in their coffins!
UNFORGETTABLE PAST.......2007-01-18
How could anyone not listen to and enjoy this wonderful music from the past? Even today, you find all kinds of youngsters listening to 'My' generation music. It's a time when the lyrics actually had meaning. Not just a bunch of yelling/screaming as today's junk. My recommendation is to encourage all to get hooked on yesteryear's music. WOW!!!
A must have........2007-01-08
Building a library of oldies to listen to just wouldn't be complete without this album.
great cd / great sound.......2006-02-26
This is a great cd with some great songs. Nice to hear Whiter shade of pale and Love is all around in true stereo. I love the Righteous Brothers Soul & Inspiration a great song and even though the song is only extended a few seconds at the beggining, its just a great song. There are a few throw away songs like Peter Rabbit, but is overpowered by many other great songs. I love Bend Me Shape Me, Society Child, I wonder what she's doing tonight, great to hear Sir Douglas Quintet's Mendocino. A lot of songs not that commonly found on other "various artist" cd's are here. I was excited before I bought the CD that the Shirley Ellis song "The Clapping Song" was included. I remember that I loved that song when I was 12 or 13 and haven't heard it since. But hearing it now 30 some years later, what the heck was I thinking, what a stupid song. But it did bring back memories...

Except for one "previously unreleased" recording and two new ones, this is a compilation of segments taken from older Yo-Yo Ma CDs, perhaps to whet listeners' appetite to hear the entire records. The disc represents a triumph of performance over material. The program consists of short pieces and single movements of long ones and serves to display Yo-Yo Ma's extraordinary versatility, his spectacular instrumental and musical gifts, and his remarkable ability to invest everything he plays with the same commitment and emotional concentration. There is no logic to the sequence, except that it begins and ends with solo cello. Bach, whom Ma plays tuned normally when unaccompanied and tuned low with the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, may justify the CD's title but seems out of place. Moreover, juxtaposing him with O'Connor and Piazzolla is jarring, though the Tangos are beautiful. The transcription of Dvorák's lovely E-minor Slavonic Dance, despite the participation of violinist Itzhak Perlman and his golden tone, sounds like a movie soundtrack: all bravura and cheap effects. The playing's the thing, and it is stunning, not only Yo-Yo Ma's, but that of all his collaborators, from vocalists Bobby McFerrin and Alison Krauss to pianist Emanuel Ax, Ma's duo partner of 25 years. Ax joins Ma for the Finale of Brahms's second cello sonata; that is what you may find yourself humming at the end. --Edith Eisler
Customer Reviews:
New Yo-Yo Fan.......2006-07-09
I had never listened to Yo-Yo Ma before (that I knew of) and then I was at a dance recital a few months ago. Two little ballerinas danced to "Simple Gifts" with Alison Kraus, and I had to have that song. I really enjoy playing this album when my family is just hanging out reading or playing with the baby in the living room. Each piece is unique and beautiful in its own way. Simple Gifts is still my favorite piece on the album, I only wish it were longer!
Simply wonderful!.......2006-06-04
I recently got this CD as a birthday gift. I've been wanting this CD for a while. The first track is a wonderful song in all reality the entire CD is a wonderful experience. The prelude by Gershwin is unique sounding with the cello. The jazz quality is still there and has a bit of classical influence intertwined among it. Yo-Yo Ma's recording of Simple Gifts is a good song and when they had the lyrics sung by Alison Krauss it was a wonderful choice. Her vocals matched the cello incredibly well. Track 8 is a wonderful song that I love to hear being played on the cello. For any person who loves classical music or cello music this CD is a good choice to buy. It will be well worth your money.
Awesome.......2004-08-20
While most people on this site see the "classic" in the title of the album as referring to classical music only, they are mistaken. Classic Yo-Yo refers to his style, not the genre into which his music choices fall. The list of tracks alone should have been a big enough clue that the music isn't all classical. Judging this album, or any album for that matter, on just its title is simply foolish. And while this is technically a solo album, the way Yo-Yo brings in guest artists to perform with him shows his flexibility as an artist. His version of Simple Gifts is so much more than a school chorus; it is an amazing cellist playing the accompaniment on a song that is meant to be sung.
On a more positive note, I found every track beautiful, from the elegant solo cello in the Bach cello suite to the haunting vocal line in the Bobby McFerrin piece. Yo-Yo Ma gathered a wide range of intriguing pieces to make this fantastic album.
What is this?.......2004-02-10
This is a compilation of many different styles; look Yo-Yo can play bluegrass! Not really "Classic" Yo-Yo.
Great if you're not familiar with Yo-Yo Ma.......2002-12-27
This CD is a good sample of what yo-yo ma has acheived in his musical career, if you want a more in depth listening of his talents than I suggest getting the simply baroque CD. The only thing that I didn't like about this cd was that the compositions were to mixed up in the genres. There was a bit of classical, some movie works, a great song by John Williams, and some of The Tango series music. If you would rather listen to one genre, get a CD that just has Classical or Contemerary, don't get a jack of all trades cd.

It might not strike one listening to the music on this collection--smoothly crafted, perfectly harmonized pop often set to gently loping swing rhythms--that the Mills Brothers were actually outstanding pioneers of black music. Their close harmony work, based on the barbershop quartets of a previous era, were an innovation in '30s popular music, arguably laying the groundwork for '50s doo-wop and by extension even the music of the Backstreet Boys and 'N Sync (but don't hold that against them!). This collection serves as a good introduction to the Mills Brothers' legacy, serving up a dozen of their infectious hits, a few of which ("Lazy River," "You Always Hurt the One You Love") still stand among the definitive renditions of the classic American songbook. And what other band has had a seven-decade career (their sons, nephews, and grandsons now filling the ranks), scoring Top 40 hits ("Paper Doll" and "Cab Driver") 46 years apart? --Jerry McCulley
Customer Reviews:
Fun music.......2002-08-31
This is a great CD to cheer yourself up with. The Mills Brothers are always good, and these songs are some of their best. Buy it and save it for those days when things feel bad...you will be whistling by the end.
"one of the oldest and long-lasting acts".......2000-04-14
Originally billed as "Four Boys and a Guitar", John Mills Sr. and is four sons John Jr., Herbert, Harry and Donald grew into one of the oldest and long-lasting acts in American popular music. His sons learned close harmony and the knack to immulate musical instruments with their voices and began broadcasting over Cincinnati radio stations in the late '20s.
In 1943 came one of their biggest hits - "PAPER DOLL" a sweet and intimate ballad stayed twelve weeks on top of the charts, sold six million records plus sheet music. The group made appearances in several films during the early '40s, and hit number one again in 1944 with "YOUR ALWAYS HURT THE ONE YOU LOVE". Another chart topper - "THE GLOW WORM" (1952) - plus additional hits with - "BE MY LIFE'S COMPANION" (1951) and "CAB DRIVER" (1967) which reached the charts, competing with rock n' roll groups such as The Beatles and of course "The King"-Elvis.
"The 20th Century Masters" presents another "The Millenium Collection" in an ongoing series featuring top artists and groups of our time in musical history. No other label has been more supportive of the talent and legacy that has made American Music the most popular in the world today.
Total Time: 34:26 on 12 Tracks/MCA Records - 088 112 228 2 (2000)
Almost Perfect.......2000-03-25
I would've given this collection five stars if it weren't for the last four songs. I'm something of a purist when it comes to the Mills Brothers and much prefer the "four boys and a guitar" style of their early work. On songs like "Paper Doll", and "Across the Alley from the Alamo" the brothers sound fantastic. Unfortunately, classics like "Glow Worm" are lost amidst the sound of the big band behind them. The version of "Cab Driver" on this album is apparently from their "country" period. I preferred earlier versions much more. The album is worth buying for the first seven songs alone, but look elsewhere if you want to hear the rest as they should be done.

Billie Holiday (1917-59) wore gardenias, was a teenaged prostitute, did drugs, and died with a cop posted outside her hospital bed. But with her gravel-like vocals, and behind-the-beat phrasing, she was one of the greatest singers of the twentieth century. This multimedia collection commemorates her ninetieth birthday. Two CDs contain forty two of her greatest hits, from her 1935 stint with Benny Goodman, to her chilling 1958 strings album, Lady in Satin. It features her signature songs like "Good Morning Heartache," "God Bless the Child," and her unforgettable anti-lynching number "Strange Fruit." The DVD includes film cameos with Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong, photographs, posters, rehearsals and interviews with friends and musicians, including a rediscovered 1956 radio broadcast with a young Mike Wallace. Her achy artistry is timeless, and as Ashley Kahn wrote in his superb liner notes, "Billie will be there tonight, tomorrow night and a long time to come." --Eugene Holley, Jr.
Customer Reviews:
A few good songs.......2007-03-27
There are some good songs on this collection. Overall a good Billie Holiday presentation. Also descent quality.
A Collector's Must Have.......2007-02-20
If you are addicted to the music and sound of Lady Day, then you must include this collection in your music porfolio. One can never get too much of Holiday.
You want Billie and you get Billie.......2006-03-03
Loved the compilation. Nice mix of tunes and certainly hits som eof her more contreversial works. Nice packaging too, lots of music in a small and neat package.
excellent box.......2006-02-04
buy this one at www.yourmusic.com for only 13 dollars, which looks exact the same product as you buy here, but so stupidly cheap!
Great Overview of Her Recording Career.......2005-11-19
I agree with many of the others here that this is a great overview of Billie Holiday's recording career. There is not much to add to the comments about this marvelous collection, but I would like to add some observations and other information that Lady Day aficionados may find interesting.
Just to correct one of the other reviewers, the four Aladdin sides (Detour Ahead, Blue Turning Grey Over You, Be Fair With Me Baby and Rocky Mountain Blues) are all available on a Blue Note CD release titled Billie's Blues, which also includes the Paul Whiteman studio track Trav'lin' Light.
This collection does not include quite every label that Billie made studio recordings for: I wish they'd thought to include Billie's only recording with Artie Shaw, Any Old Time. It's much harder to track down than any of her other studio sides. Any Old Time is quite a jump for her stylistically, as it is done in a "big band" style that more evokes Glenn Miller, the Dorsey Brothers or, well Artie Shaw. It's available on more than one Artie Shaw CD release, but they are hard to find. I have it on a CD put out by the Jazz Heritage label under the album title "Frenesi".
One of the interesting inclusions on the Ultimate Collection DVD is a discography that lists virtually every Billie Holiday studio recording and all of her "authorized" live recordings. The only omissions I am aware of are some rare vinyl pressings (more about these later). Of course, there are many, many bootleg live recordings (most of these either very poorly recorded or they are examples of Lady Day at her worst, or both). I'd like to list a few interesting exceptions. In the 70's, TCB records put out a vinyl titled "The One and Only Billie Holiday - Lady Sings the Blues - Collectors Edition". It's mostly poor quality bootlegs, including the songs from the "soundtrack" for the film "New Orleans", but one track I've never found anywhere else is a radio transcript (?) of a live recording of Don't Explain that is absolutely breathtaking. Billie is in amazing voice, and her reading of the song was never more effective. She starts the track by exclaiming "I'd like to sing a song that I wrote; it's titled 'Don't Explain' ..." and then launches right into it, with a full orchestra. The audio quality is exceptional, but the track is marred by a slight "skip" on the first line that seems to have originated with the source material. Vocally, Billie never sounded better; I'd guess it was recorded around 1942. I've been hoping for years that this would pop up on a CD somewhere, but it seems to be the most elusive and rare track I own of her.
Other rare performances never released on CD include the infamous live set at the Storyville club in Boston, issued on the RIC label and later by Monmouth-Evergreen. This album is not very interesting, as it presents Billie in a poorly recorded setting and, vocally, she was having an off night, but it is of interest to aficionados and those who want to have a complete set of Lady's recordings. I am not aware that it's ever been released on CD.
Then there are the three albums of "radio and TV broadcasts" issued by ESP Disc on vinyl in the 70's. These were available briefly on CD in a three disc set, but I didn't bother acquiring it; the performances are not very worthwhile, except for a few that are available elsewhere.
In 1986, Blackhawk Records released a vinyl album of a "recently discovered" complete recital recorded October 5, 1958 at the Monterey Jazz festival. Guest musicians supporting Billie include Gerry Mulligan and Benny Carter (you know they're really there because they are introduced when they join the band halfway through the set). Billie's performance is not half bad, especially considering how late in her life it was recorded. Unfortunately, the best track on the album vocally, Good Morning Heartache, is ruined by the sudden appearance of a prop plane (it was an outdoor festival) coming in for a landing at Monterey airport. The engines drone on for several moments, at one point completely drowning out Billie and the band. Nevertheless, I have tried to find it on CD, and I am hoping that it will be eventually released, as it's especially interesting for it's superb audio quality. Also several of Billie's standards are refreshed by new arrangments, which seem to buoy her performance and make the 11 tracks all the more interesting.
Finally, in 1958 Columbia records gave a "party" for some of their recording artists at the Edwardian Room at the Plaza Hotel, NYC. Although not intended to be released commercially (the recording quality is marginal), in 1973 Columbia released two vinyl LP's called "Jazz at the Plaza" Volumes I and II. Volume I was the second part of the program, headed by Miles Davis, and Columbia recently released it on CD. Volume II, which has not yet appeared on CD (but I'm hopeful) presented the Duke Ellington Orchestra with special guests. The guest vocalists were Jimmy Rushing and Billie Holiday. Billie does two songs, When Your Lover Has Gone and Don't Explain, accompanied only by Duke Ellington on piano and Buck Clayton on trumpet. What's wonderful about it, aside from the fact that it's the only performance Billie recorded with Duke Ellington since she sang "Saddest Tale" in the 1935 short film Symphony in Black, is that Duke Ellington wrote a "new" piano arrangement for Don't Explain that is absolutely thrilling in it's simplicity and beauty. It's so good, that Billie used it for the rest of her life (there is a TV performance clip of her singing Don't Explain in 1958 with Mal Waldron that essentially uses the same arrangement - see the DVD release The Genius of Lady Day). Although only two tracks, it remains one of my favorite live late recordings of Billie Holiday.
Until the wonderful day when every single recording and video performance of the great Lady Day is available, the Billie Holiday Ultimate Collection is certainly a good start, and well worth the investment.

Who's on First: A Collection of Classic Routines.......2007-07-18
Well, first off, it took a long time to receive it. Then, when I got it - the cover was cracked. I bought this for my dad, so I waited until he opened it to see if it was damaged. Luckily it wasn't because if I returned, god knows how long it would have taken to get a new one.
I've been happy with every purchase made on Amazon. But, of course, this one was a gift and this is the one that had problems.
"Who's On First" never gets old.......2007-01-12
I've been looking for a digital audio version of "Who's On First" for quite a while. That routine alone is worth the price of the disc. The rest of the sketches are pretty typical Abbott & Costello and are worth a listen or two, but the title track is a timeless piece of Americana. This version is somewhat different than the other audio and video versions that I've heard, but as we all know, eventually we find that I Don't Know is on third base and we just "Don't Give A Darn"... Oh yeah, that's our shortstop!
The original routines and recordings........2006-12-29
Expect some static, and to miss the beginning of the routines if you are not ready immediately after pressing "play". Otherwise, it's all great, classic, stuff unjaded by years of re-performance.
Classic Duo of Golden Age Comedy.......2006-02-23
I used to have this on vinyl... remember those things? It makes you feel like a kid again. I'm starting a collection of these radio legends like Fibber McGee & Molly, Jack Benny, The Whistler, Dimension X, etc.... CD's, of course. (I gotta get wit' the times.)
The funniest comedy team ever........2000-05-09
People today laugh at Seinfeld, Sinbad and others. If they want to hear true comedy, listen to these two. Abbott And Costello simply can't be beat. And who can forget "Who's On First! " That is to comedy like "Stairway To Heaven" is to classic rock. This disc will leave you in stitches and wanting more.

Essential Otis Collection.......2007-04-05
This compilation has lots of Otis Rush's best early material, and while it predates his classic "So Many Roads," it is still an excellent collection of his music.
I Can't Quit You Baby, Three Times A Fool, Groaning The Blues, and many others remind you why he's been such an influential guitarist, and why people like Eric Clapton love him work.
This is a collection worth owning for the blues guitar fan.
Music good, sound ok.......2007-01-07
There are some very nice tunes on here with great riffs and licks to learn if youre a guitarist. You can tell Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton ate this stuff up! Unfortunately, his vocals are often distorted. Seems as if no one else really seems to matter, so take my review with a grain of salt.
These recordings were made 50 years ago and dont sound bad by any means, but thats why it got 4 stars only. I realize they may not have had too many resources to use recourding these tracks back in 1956, but this was probably the fault of the engineer. Distorted guitar can work if thats what youre going for, but when the vocals are distorting then its time to turn down the level! Otis Rush sounds great here though...I cant recommend something else that sounds better - so go ahead and pick this up. Dont expect super high fidelity though.
Every review here is 5 stars .......2004-08-11
because this is as good as it gets for blues singing, guitar playing and songwriting not necessarily in any order --- Otis Rush is as great a blues artist as any other in the history of the genre
Blues at it's best.......2004-06-17
Excellent compilation and a great collection of songs recorded under the limited enviroment that Eli Toscano's Cobra Studio had, but all these songs stand by themselves. Every time I hear Otis or Freddie King I can hear Eric Clapton, it's clear he got influenced by this great musician. I can't quit you baby, a song written by Willie Dixon (who plays almost all the bass parts) later covered by Led Zeppelin and All your love later covered by the same Eric Clapton with John Mayall and also Aerosmith payed tribute this song later on.
Magnificent.......2003-11-29
A criminally underrated performer, southpaw guitarist Otis Rush broke into the R&B top 10 on his first attempt with the great slow blues "I Can't Quit You Baby".
That song was penned by Willie Dixon, as are several of these late-50s singles which Rush recorded for Eli Toscano's Cobra label, but Rush was a more than able composer himself, and he is the man behind some of the best songs on this CD, including "All Your Love (I Miss Loving)", "Three Times A Fool" and "Keep On Loving Me Baby"; superb, sophisticated blues tunes which often eclipse Dixon's.
Otis Rush' brand of blues is less rough and boisterous than the music of Howlin' Wolf, but not as polished as that of B.B. King, and he was a major source of inspiration to Stevie Ray Vaughan, who named his band after Rush's song "Double Trouble", and did a great rendition of "All Your Love".
His intense vocals and stinging lead guitar playing is reminicent of Buddy Guy and Magic Sam, and if talent was everything and luck and timing never mattered, Otis Rush would currently be hailed as the reigning king of Chicago blues.
Alternating between smouldering slow blues and swinging up-tempo numbers, this is one of the truly essential albums in any blues collection. If Rush had never recorded another note, his reputation would be intact based solely on these eight singles.

If Ever You're Lonely .......2007-03-08
It may lead me back to 60's 70's, romantic song that sung by Petuka Clark who has romantic voice that make me always feel younger. Note: Many hits of Petula still not seen in this box set.
Petulia Clark Collection.......2007-02-14
Fantastic! The sound of real music to my ears. She's a gem of a singer.
Brava! - A Terrific Value.......2006-07-27
This is a stellar compilation of Miss Clark's greatest hits and then some. Very reasonable price for this 4 disc set. So reasonable in fact, that it made me hesitate to purchase at first. Was it going to be as good as it appeared on paper? The answer is a resounding Yes.
The song selection is a truly comprehensive overview of Miss Clark's pop career. All the U.S. Top 40 hits are here from "Downtown" to "Don't Give Up", including the sometimes hard to find "The Cat In The Window". What adds to this collection are the numerous additional songs which include her renditions of many of the hits songs of the day (1960s), songs which were hits in Europe but not the U.S. and some delightful numbers sung in French.
Despite my knowledge of Miss Clark's work, which I thought was rather extensive, I even found a number of songs new to me which have quickly become additional favorites. They include "Where Did We Go Wrong", "Days", "Just Say Goodbye" And "Life & Soul Of The Party".
A major concern of mine re inexpensive collections is the sound quality of the recordings. Well, never fear. At least to my ears, the sound quality here is excellent. Occasionally, these collections can sound thin or "tinny". Not so this one. The sound is as full as it can be expected to be for songs recorded more than 40 years ago.
At this price, with these songs, from this artist, sounding as good as it does it, you really can not go wrong with this.
The Only Petula Clark Collection You'll Need.......2006-01-03
Which is how concise, precise and incredible a collection this is. The lady who's been meshed into the "British Invasion" of U.S. 60's pop music swooned us through much of the decade with 15 Top 40 hits that included the Grammy-winning "Don't Sleep in the Subway" and other classics such as "Downtown," "This Is My Song," "Kiss Me Goodbye," "My Love," "A Sign of the Times" and "I Know A Place." But American producers of "Best Of" series never did Petula Clark justice, and the wrong was undone in 1997 by England's Castle Pulse studio. And here's its masterpiece: an 80-track compilation in four CD's that includes all the American hits and one gem after the other. Vols. 1 and 2 of the four discs are titled "The Singles" and Discs 3 and 4 "The Song Stylist." Nos. 1 and 2 unleash what they promise - the singles that catapulted this incredibly gifted lady into American stardom, and a few other hidden gems, one of them Ms. Clark's soulful and tuneful English version (titled "Sailor") of German singer Lolita's 1960 worldwide maga-hit, "Seeman." Vols. 3 and 4 give us what they promise: the lady's indominable style, incredibly conveyed in such "borrowed" hits as "Homeward Bound," "Elusive Butterfly" and "Let It Be Me." A buried jewel is the bilingual Ms. Clark's unleashing of a few French numbers, including "L'Amour Viendra," "Tu Reviendras Vers Ta Maison?" ("Am I That Easy to Forget?" a la Englebert Humperdinck) and "Qu'Est-Ce Qui Fait Courir Le Monde?" No one can easily argue that Petula Clark didn't write a chapter in American music at one of the field's most pivotal social turning points, and the lady's charms continue to mesmerize us. And, honestly, get this collection and every other "Best of Petula Clark" release isn't the "best of" compared to this, the one compilation that any music-lover and Petula Clark fan will ever need.
THE Collection to Own!.......2004-11-05
Pet Clark has been poorly served by hit collections on the US side of the pond, but along came England's Castle in 1997 to right this wrong, and at a dynamite price to boot! For the price of one US CD you get FOUR, count 'em, FOUR CDs, 80 songs! Every big US hit record is here, and many, many more which were hits around the world! Don't be deceived by the fact that the discs are divided into two volumes entitled "The Singles Parts One and Two" and "The Song Stylist Parts One and Two": the hits are all over all four discs, with not a trace of filler. Petula scholars may fret a bit over the fact that the tracks are not in chronological order, but who cares? Just stick these four in your CD carousel and let 'er rip! Pet's voice was, and is, a wonder. She can sing anything and make it her own.
The long and the short of it is: BUY THIS BOX! Even if you're a casual Pet fan, look at the US collections, then look at this UK import. For roughly the same price you will get one heck of a career overview, and you, too will discover just how great and versatile a singer Petula Clark is.
Did I say BUY THIS BOX?

ALL-STARR BARGAIN.......2007-04-17
Only seven years into the millennium and already EMI have delivered the bargain of the century! This collection is worth so much more than the derisory price that Starr fans and all lovers of quality vocalising should snap it up instantly.
All the old favourites are here, but what makes this collection infinitely desirable is the presence of all the unissued Capitol material that could be unearthed. When the label began to realise that they had signed an artist who genuinely could sing absolutely anything, they had her record an astonishing range of material and it's all covered in this set. With her rich, burnished, bluesy tones, Kay could always bring style and distinction to even unremarkable songs and this set, spanning almost twenty years, demonstrates beautifully how Kay developed her increasingly individual vocal style, getting more and more juice out of the material she recorded while keeping up with musical trends.
DISC ONE covers 1947 to 1952 and includes six unreleased tracks. It underlines how Kay's darker voice and dynamic style stood out from so many of her more buttoned-up ladylike competitors. She's the supreme communicator, always selling a song and conveying such sheer pleasure in singing. One mystery: a version of "You've been flying too high" was apparently recorded by Kay for Capitol on 30 June 1950, but the version included here is a 1945 recording for Standard featuring violinist Joe Venuti with noticeably poorer sound than the Capitol tracks.
DISC TWO (1952-1961) Lots of Kay's later hits here, sung in those mature, torchily blue tones that became her hallmark. Many of them appear on CD for the first time, but the items of the greatest interest to Kay's fans will be the six unreleased recordings form 1961. These are knockouts, and it's a crime that they haven't been available till now because the lady is in prime form.
DISC THREE continues from 1961 to 1964 and the end of Kay's years with Capitol. Hardly any of the 25 tracks on this disc have appeared on CD before, and there are eight previously unissued tracks. A few numbers suffer from the somewhat over-resonant recording fashionable at the time and quite unnecessary for a singer of this quality, but again it's wonderful that they're available on CD. It has been a l-o-n-g time since Starr fans were treated to new material!
Kay remains one of the most influential singers of her era and was integral in the establishing Capitol as a major label in the late forties and early fifties, so it's a little disappointing that neither they nor any of the reissue specialists have seen fit to put together a luxury boxed set to commemorate her contribution, but meantime this fascinating collection, graced by Drew Blackburn's information-packed and appreciative liner notes will do very nicely. Unalloyed pleasure from start to finish - champagne at beer prices!

Product Description
Incredible rare collection of ALL original recordings featuring Dickey Lee. Beautifully mastered, these original recordings sound better than any other Dickey Lee CD on the market today.
In 1962, Patches became a million seller. One of the "teenage disaster" songs which were popular at the time, it reached the pop top ten. Dickey Lee followed it with I Saw Linda Yesterday the same year and the cryptic Laurie (Strange Things Happen) in 1965. These three records would pave the way for a 40 year career for the soulful country singer.
Dickey Lee had his greatest success as a country artist. His list of top 10 hits include Rocky, 9,999,999 Tears, Never Ending Song of Love and Angel, Roses and Rain. His gift for song writing and performing has endured as Dickey Lee continues to perform and write for other artists.

this is one of the best CDs.......2006-02-07
this is one of the best Dickey Lee CDs I have heard. this one has most of his big hits. the only one missing is "Red, Green Yellow and Blue" an APCO 45 he had out around 1967/68. all the hits that are here, are the best recordings I have heard on a CD of Dickey Lee. I am most pleased with this CD. Keep up the good work. it is good to see a good recording of Dickey Lee hits.
Dickey Lee: Great 70's country hits!.......2006-02-06
I wish this CD had better availability, as it has great Dickey Lee songs that are virtually lost otherwise. This is the only CD I've found with "Angels, Roses and Rain " on it. That and "9,999,999 Tears to Go" are great memories of 70's country gold that deserve preservation. Some wonderful memories on this CD...I'll probably go ahead and buy it used before it's gone!

Album Description
2007 double CD set that compiles all the classic EMI singles from one of Australia's finest exports. The Church's blend of Byrds-like jangle, soaring melodies, Psychedelic dynamics and an almost Goth-like hint of darkness endeared them to the Alternative/New Wave crowd through most of the '80s and beyond. This two CD set compiles their finest moments and features some of the greatest sounds to emerge from Oz since the days of the munchkins! 33 tracks including 'Under The Milky Way', 'Almost With You', 'Reptile', 'The Unguarded Moment', 'Constant In Opal', 'Ripple', 'Already Yesterday' and many more. EMI.
