Hip Hop today is the epitome of Pop, the style and the music. Hip hop is also the epitome of street expression. Some view this dichotomy as a paradox, Tru-Paz views it as an opportunity. Akim, Boozy, and DJ Unknown are looking to bring up-tempo, energizing music with a conscious message into the ears of the people. Blending the good feelings of club music, with the uplifting vibes of positive messages, Tru-Paz hopes to deliver a universal brand of Hip Hop.

The group is composed of three core members: Akim, Boozy and DJ Unknown. Akim is the lead MC, delivering sharp and energizing vocals that cut to the heart of any issue that needs to be tackled. His fans have compared him to everyone from Big L to Jay Z.

Boozy is the Yang to Akim's Ying. Where Akim is fierce and aggressive, Boozy is cool and smooth. His sultry blend of harmonious singing and soulful rapping gives Tru-Paz a distinct reggae feel that very few groups possess. With his powerful voice and moving verses, Boozy is the perfect compliment to Akim's raw energy. Anyone that has heard Boozy has compared him to such legends as Tupac, and Bob Marley.

With two solid vocal forces, DJ Unknown provides the glue that binds Tru-Paz together. With production that ranges from choppy samples over hard drums, to soulful electronic grooves over jazzy rhythmic drum loops. Unknown weaves melodies that both move the listener, as well as compliment Akim and Boozy's flows. As a producer, DJ Unknown has been compared stylistically to DJ Premier and DJ Shadow.

Together, these three artists represent one goal. Together, they aspire to unite the fragmented Hip Hop community into one unstoppable force.

Over a decade ago, Melbourne's Runaway Boys turned from rockabilly covers to originals and changed their name to The Living End. Since then they've racked up a quintuple platinum album (1998's "The Living End"), two platinum and five gold records, won three ARIA awards, countless other accolades, and gathered fans worldwide. Punkabilly Rock at its Absolute Best.......2006-09-12

The Living End's last release, "Modern Artillery" didn't do much for the trip which was a good thing, because the album was more of a blatant pop punk sellout album than anything else. So now the band is back doing what they do best; rockabilly influenced political ska punk. This is their fourth full-length album and a good follow-up to their second release. The album features song that incorporate the bands unique sound. Give "Wake Up" and What's On Your Radio" a listen and you'll see what I'm talking about.

There isn't anything as catchy out there as "Prisoner of Society" or "Roll On" from their first two albums, but this is their most matured album to date. Hopefully they will continue to write punkabilly rock tunes I the future, it's what they do best.

Emergency! Paging...........2006-08-13

Good punk -- like any really good music -- is kinda hard to find. You have to sift through dozens of hack, ripoff bands before finding something with energy and brilliance.

And one good example is the Living End's latest album, "State of Emergency." The longstanding Aussie band mixes tightly-wound punk and kinetic instrumentation with some wicked musical aesthetics. It's pretty bloody hard to find a song on here that won't get your heartrate up through the roof.

It opens with an attention-grabbing bassline, which explodes into a fast-racing electric guitar riff. By the time it slows down into a steady punker, listeners will be hooked. "Countdown toward the end now/no need to panic, no need to panic now... I'm stepping on enemy lines/We're gonna take you to the end of the line!"

The songs that follow are just as taut as those lyrics, and they hardly ever slow down the machine-gun pace. There's the tight, winding punk-rockers, slow-burners, the dancey rockers, the rockabilly edge which harkens back to the band's roots, and the slower, drum-led "Order of the Day," which hints at a more epic sound.

Not every song is all rock'n'roll -- "No Way Out" is a gentle, sort of fuzzy acoustic melody that sounds almost like a folky ballad. It still has a rough edge, which explodes into rock'n'roll about halfway through the song. But it shows they can do more than just rock.

No rock pretensions, no ripping off the Clash or the Ramones. Best of all, absolutely ZERO boredom -- the Living End know how to rock. And unlike most rock bands, they know how to do it without sounding like they're playing the same bloody song over and over.

Instead, they break out with rapid-fire electric guitar and blasts of blasts here and there, with a sinuous line here and there to spice things up. They're fast, kinetic and the instrumentation is absolutely seamless, mixed in with some solid drums. Usually they repeat the riffs a few times to get toes tapping, then switch gears before it can get repetitive.

Nice lyrics too -- not brilliant lyrically, but they have the same sense of urgency and tension that the first song does, which match the music to a tee ("Cause they don't wanna know about the things you've done/They don't wanna know about the damage done/Everyone is going down!"). And frontman Chris Cheney has an excellent voice, strong and raw, but with a melodious edge.

Rough, tightly-wound and ripe for repeated listening, the Living End show what they're made of in "State of Emergency" -- and apparently they're made of raw diamond.

A much more vocal-based album.......2006-07-28

I enjoy this album, just like any music by The Living End, but I noticed there is much more emphasis on the vocals and melody than before. There seems to be a lot less lead guitar than they're oldest music, and it seems like basslines are used a lot less than before. In the past, it was obvious by the technique that they were using a standup bass, but now, it is not quite so apparent. Over all this was a very enjoyable album, and I really can't complain much. I'm sure I will be listening to this album for quite a while.

A Great New Release from The End !!.......2006-07-15

ok, check it. here's what you need to know about this record.

1. any living end is good living end. it's always good to hear the boys and what they are up to. they have a "sound" but throw in a bunch of other stuff, rockabilly, punk, rock, but mostly, imagination.

2. this album contains songs of a good length. that is why it takes longer to recognize every song independantly. There's a lot of one and three quarters to 2 minute songs out there you forget within a week. These are longer, more content oriented, more content in playing as well, there's a lot of changeups.

3. there are some great catchy songs here. Listne to wake up and dont tell me you wont be singing the opening lines. this album is a single factory. if you wanna sing in the shower, the car, or the can, you will. Right now i'm singing "long live the weekend". it's been banging around for 3 weeks now.

4. it's a fun album. even when it gets slow, you dont find yourself getting bored. if you are an album listener, you will like this, it's got good longevity. i've had it when it came out in aust and it's getting good play.

5. listen to the clips below. the actual u.s. release is coming soon if you dont want the import. go to their myspace and their site, watch the videos. these guys are the best thing to come out of aust in a long time.

A Masterpiece of Hip Hop.......2005-05-19

This cd is simply amazing. Not hardcore hip hop about meaningless rhymes about cars and hoes. What you'll find here is meaningFUL hip hop. The hooks on this album is haunting. For whom the bell tolls is arguably one of the best tracks i've ever heard and honestly its good enough to buy the album for. But the rest of the album is very very strong too. Although for whom the bell tolls is the stand out favorite, that doesn't take anything away from the rest of the album. When you here a track that is gonna be one of your favorites of all time its hard to ask for that twice in one album. what you do get is wicked rhymes and sweet beats and a variety.

If your a hip hop fan looking for something new and the first to have. This is what you need because everybody thats listened to this album had to have it and when your the first to get it and find it. You'll have a sense of satisfaction from it!
These guys are that good.
My only regret is not finding this album sooner.

Great Pop-Punk Album.......2007-02-08

Being American is sometimes (read: always) embarrassing. We're a tad selfish with the whole natural resources thing, our attention spans are shallow and childish, and our tastes in music are just as shallow...most of the time at least. The Living End is a good example. They hail from Australia, and for some reason their latest work State of Emergency was hurt by a delayed release here in the States...primarily because of disinterest. What a crime. This album is the best pop-punk work I've heard in months, and that includes American Idiot by The Living End's number one comparative artist: Green Day. Arguably (as will be argued by me), these guys blow the pants off Green Day, and State of Emergency should have swept through the States like a primeval wind-storm. Alas, my soap-box and I don't control American tastes, so I will be satisfied by convincing you to go out and sneak a listen to The Living End--if you haven't already.

Skinny ties and upright bass included, State of Emergency is an explosion of a pop-punk piece that includes horribly catchy tunes, one right after the other, and a general state of discontent towards the state of everything. "Wake Up" is probably the best example of this complaint, as singer Chris Cheney calmly instructs, along with a Floyd-like chorus of school-children: "So wake up / To the manipulation / Wake up / To the situation." The entire first half of the album is laden with punk rhythms just waiting for ears to lick up. From the stunningly fast guitar solo in "What's On Your Radio" to the opening powerful chords of "'Til The End" (which will pull you into The Living End `til the end), State of Emergency rocks. "We Want More" sounds poignantly like earlier Green Day tracks, but frankly holds much more depth, more finely crafted instrumentals, and classier vocals.

The second half is a bit more pulled back. Tracks like "Nothing Lasts Forever" and "One Step Behind" find The Living End pulling back their formerly crashing instrumentals, opting instead for quiet verses and more moving choruses--giving Cheney to show off his lyrical might. This dip in intensity is a well-deserved break from the roller coaster of the opening tracks, and lets the closing songs come off much stronger than they would have if every single track were an tremendous sonic adventure. That's not to say the middle tracks are bad, "Nowhere Town" still has a catchy pop melody, just with a light-punk influence. These scaled back tracks open up into the conclusion of the album, the blisteringly fast "Into The Red" which leaves the listener breathless from the mile-a-minute guitar solos...and strongly desirous to start the CD again. The Living End are wonderfully impressive in their latest musical addition, containing more depth and coming off as more catchy than their North American brethren--and perhaps humbling us Yanks.

iw ish we had band this cool in the U.S....

TLE returns with an amazing rock album...the punkabilly element is there...but so is every modern rock element that's worth hearing. big guitars, big vocal hooks...man. these guys are great.

i am a 40 year old jaded musician...haha...but these guys are doing it the way it SHOULD BE DONE. good songs, good playing, good band.

the only reason i gave the album 4 stars instead of 5 is because the production is a little dark and muddy here and there...maybe stylish, but not what this band deserves.

i hear everything here from the Pistols to King Crimson...no joke.

Just WOW.......2006-07-26

All I can say is that this album is incredible. I have had it for about 2 months and I have not stopped listening to it. It is so fast paced, has great addicting riffs and meaningful lyrics. Their best album by far. Songs to remember on the cd are: 'Til the End, Long Live the Weekend, Wake Up, Nothing Lasts Forever, One Step Behind and State of Emergency. These are the songs I found to be singing to all the time. Truely a great piece of work. Make sure to catch them on tour! They're absolutely incredible live. :)

roll on, where art thou?.......2006-07-09

By far, the living end's greatest achievement yet is 'roll on'. The s/t was an alright release, there are still a few songs i enjoy. Oh well, the living end was good while it lasted. Huge disappointment, then again, after modern artillery i was expecting it. This isn't maturing, this is degenerating
