peer pressure 2 was amazing. all the tracks were great. all freesyles and the lyrics are amazing. but i only got 1 problem with this cd tho..theres only 2 tracks of j-hood and very few of jada....but its k.go buy the cd

    Album Description

    This CD contains four arrangements from Aki Takahashi's Hyper Beatles project, which commissioned 47 composers from around the world to arrange their favorite Beatles songs: Toru Takemitsu (who also uniquely embarked on a Beatles transcription project for solo guitar), Frederic Rzewski, Barbara Monk-Feldman and Ryuichi Sakamoto...a tremendous range in approaches. Sakamoto's Aki2.2, on the one hand, allows the performer to play according to her own inner musical instincts, based on basic impulses provided in the score - a technique that follows the example of John Cage and certain other modern composers.

    Unlike the Beatles transcriptions by these modern classical composers, A Leaf is a classically-styled piano solo piece, written by the pop star Paul McCartney as a serious composition. It is his second work in the classical idiom after his first Liverpool Oratorio. A Leaf, in its orchestral version can be heard on the album, 'Working Classical,' though it was originally conceived as solo piano piece.

    It's only a single for an album I would assume is coming out in the future. By comparisson to Just Jack's full length album you can see that he has progressed musically while still retaining his funky hip-hop like roots. I like where this new album could possibly be going given this two track sampling. If you liked the Outer Marker enough and you can't wait for a new full length album then pick this up because it's pretty good, but it does leave you a little unfulfilled.

      After reading the other ratings for this compilation, I was heated! Then came to realize something, a couple of these people claim to be rap fans, but obviously aren't... come on, the guy from Australia has a better understanding of what rap is (though he only gave a 5 star album 4). I'm assuming that it's because he grew up in the 2000's era, facsimilies are tired for those of us who grew up during the construction of true rap's sanctuary. Buy this disk, "crunkers", and you're sure to find the base recepie for all that leftover flavor you seem to crave.

      i liked it a lot, many great tracks, good to hear more from bad-n-fluenz, this was the first i had heard of mac mall, also has a ton of well know's from the bay such as ant diddly dog, ant banks, e-40, mr. malik, and an appearance from 2Pac & Spice 1. If you liked rap back in the 90's, you should not dissapointed.

      I personally didnt like the cd cause it only had one 2Pac song on it and i dont like too much bay are Rap so i sold it. if you like bay area Rap then pick the cd up but if you a eastcoast head then leave it on the shelf to collect dust cause its st8 wack

      I bought this CD thinking it would have a lot of pac on it but there was only one song of his. This CD is almost all Bay area rappers. There are A LOT of artists featured so if you are looking for any bay area rapper they are probably on the CD. I'd say the music falls in between underground and mainsteam. The beats arn't very creative, but the artists featured work well with them. An o.k buy, but there are better.

      I just switched to bassoon from sax two years ago at the start of college and have also gotten the wonderful opportunity to learn contrabassoon. Last semester, I picked up this and another one of Susan Nigro's albums, "The Big Bassoon", and I couldn't believe how satisfying this music is to listen to! The last song in particular ("The Impish Imp") makes me smile my face off and want to get up and dance...and I'm usually not one for dancing! I highly suggest listening to its preview over at www.bigbassoon.com, as it's quite different from the pieces previewed at Amazon.

      In short, I obviously enjoyed this purchase immensely, and I'd recommend it to anyone. Especially if you're a bassoonist or a collector of unique albums.

      The grades are in:
      110% for novelty.
      88% for musicality.

      The actual musical results on this CD are definitely a *lot* better than you might expect from the seemingly ludicrous concept of duets of contrabass instruments.

      I in fact am a bassoonist and a contrabassoonist to a fair degree, but am more fundamentally a composer. If you happen to be a bassoonist or otherwise a bassoon fan, you will probably find this CD to be 10 of 10; an amazing part of your collection. If you're a general music lover, however, you'll probably find it worth buying, but not among your most prized posessions.

      I have two main comments about the details of the recording: First, don't try to listen to this in noisy surroundings; there are too many subtlties that can get lost. Use headphones or a good-quality stereo system.

      Second, the compositions purpose-written for contrabassoons are substantially more musically meaningful than those written for bassoon. The reason is range. Susan Nigro and Burl Lane are able to routinely play the entire 3.5-octave bassoon range on their contras. The purpose-written compositions take advantage of this, whereas the bassoon compositions include tight chords that, when knocked down an octave to the contrabass range end up muddled. Of course, when they do play in the deep-contrabass range, the results are quite an experience!

      In short, although this CD has more novelty value than musical value, its musical value is much greater than you'd probably imagine possible.

      As a contrabassoonist myself, I just wish I had one of these folks in my own neighborhood to play duets with. :) Wow! To hear not one, but TWO, of these hideous contraptions playing together is nothing less than FABULOUS! This recording has now been added to my list of "must haves" - it deserves far more than just five stars!

          The late Michel Block was a pianist whose fame did not equal his immense talent. He was appreciated by the few but somehow never succeeded in gaining the renown that his playing deserved. The story of how Arthur Rubinstein was outraged when Block did not win at the 1960 Chopin Competition is well known; Rubinstein created the 'Arthur Rubinstein Prize' on the spot and awarded it to Block. For piano aficionados he remains one of the great ones of recent times. His recording of the Albéniz 'Iberia' remains, for me, the best ever made, better even than de Larrocha's. The present CD, issued in 1994 by ProPiano, contains some of his most wonderful playing. The opening selection, Leopold Godowsky's transcription of the andante movement from Bach's Solo Violin Sonata No. 2, BWV 1003, is, for me, one of the high points of the entire CD. The transcription is extremely pianistic but requires the player be able to sustain a songful line over gently throbbing chords, a very difficult thing to pull off. Block does so marvelously, and is given some of the warmest recorded piano tone one will ever hear. When I first got this CD I couldn't get past this track; I kept playing it over and over. The Bach-Godowsky is followed by three of the Op. 76 Klavierstücke (Intermezzi Nos. 3, 4 & 7) of Brahms. These three are also slow and songful and the comments about the Bach Andante apply to them as well.

          Fauré's Nocturne No. 6 in D Flat follows, and although it is in a completely different style of writing from the Germanic Bach and Brahms, the same soft and singing touch is evident. And its somewhat etiolated French ambience is a perfect lead-in to the Second Sonata ('Sonata-Fantasy') of Scriabin, a piece I once heard Block play in recital. I well recall the prolonged silence after he finished the presto, a collective intake of breath and then a roar of applause. In this performance, Block's legato has to be heard to be believed.

          After the Scriabin finale, the first really fast piece on this program, the CD, somewhat brief at 58'30", concludes with Chopin's elegantly melancholy A Minor Mazurka, Op. 67, No. 4, and the soulful and dramatic Polonaise-Fantasy in A Flat, Op. 61. Block's treatment is the most gently nostalgic performance of this piece I've ever heard; I come close to tears at the point at about 12'30", just after the spectacularly managed chordal trills, when Block gets softer, even rueful, where others tend to become martial. This is inspired Chopin playing. Only in the final fortissimo section do we get any hint of harshness in the recorded sound. But the performance sweeps one away with its emotionality.
