2 out of 5 stars Horrible Album.......2006-05-14

AWOL One in my oppinion, is phenominally suckorrible (that's right) on this album. The only reason it gets TWO stars is because of Daddy Kevs' beats struggling to pick up the slack from this rappers' boring and monotonous rhymes. Maybe this is just where I draw the line on my underground West Coast appreciation, being from New York. My mind is incredibly opened to this kind of stuff, but this album has nothing to put it. If it were free, I MIGHT throw it on my computer. So no, I wouldn't even pay $.95 for this borefest, like it goes for on this website. I think THAT just proved my point.

5 out of 5 stars The Duo's 3rd Installation of Hiphop Debauchery.......2003-04-19

Here again the beat making skills of Daddy Kev push Awol to a new, more mellow jazz cat rhyme style (for the most part). If you have been waiting to hear rappers hittin 70's free jazz this is definitely a release for you. Sampled licks from the likes of Miles, Hancock, Corea, and even some Jan Hammer riffs. Sick topics, iller beat construction, these guys provide pure satisfaction.
Since no tracks are listed here, I'll break it down for ya:
There are 22 tracks total, though only 8-10 would be considered full rhymes, the remaining songs range from nice, spacey jazz interludes to rants by Awol, bombarding you with advice, questions, and directions, rhyming about break-dancing with scissors in your pocket and haphazzardly abusing the mic left and right.
My standout tracks are 'That One Song You Play When You're Faded', haunting strings and a good steady rap over a jazzy solo horn line, 'Idiot Savant Autistic Delivery', a great jazz freak-out instr. break, 'Montgomery Burns Quest For Power' a cool little interlude with a nice, crackly electric beat matched to the jazz, and my overall favorite 'Buyin Friends On Ebay', a great, old school, classic Awolrus rhyme about every different type of friend you could find, and a few you never thought of, not to mention the body-rocker Kev drops for this one, making it a strong weapon against remaining skeptics>>>>Peep < < < <
I predict the series of collaborations between these two will continue to break new ground and set new trends, while simultaneously poking fun and thumbing its nose at all the current trends."Friends like you/I call some Audio/lo-fi friends/hi-fi enemies"

5 out of 5 stars different.......2004-01-17

His music isn't composed of a bunch of generic rap songs. He manages to mix 80s style rhymes with 90s style retro-beat to form music like no other. Highly recommend. Just don't expect wangsta rap here.

5 out of 5 stars AWOL COULD GIVE A FAT EFF IF YOU THINK HE'S DOWN!!!.......2003-04-22

To any one who hasn't heard this album, or Awol's style at that: Listen to the soundclips of 2.'Rhythm' and 4.'Agony', if that doesn't show you the versatility of this release then go buy yer choice of the mainstream, post-Dre-dribble.
I am only writing this review to put some balance on the scales, cuz homey below (circumcised??)can't see true talent when its smackin em jawbone ta crackles!!! Not to mention the rumbling bass-lines and breaks Daddy Kev provides ALWAYS!!!! I'd buy this for the music alone, Awol's a hefty bonus.....
Matter o'fact--AWOL IS AN ILL MC WHO HAS A VISION BEYOND SOUNDING "TIGHT". To quote him: "Here I go again/Voicing opinions/Thunder isn't this loud/..I told em the world was ending/But they didn't believe me/I told em to trust me/And they tried to deceive me/Its gotta be greed."
And I think the underlying fact is that Awol COULD rap really fast and jumbled on every track(Kev IS a Jungle/Hiphop DJ)but I think Awol wants to make himself clear--> he wants you to know the words to his stuff, so you can sing it to yer buddies, he's trying to cure ya "Ignorance". He even admits he's "borderline genius/or a madman/I'm def, dumb and blind/but I do what I can." Abstract MCs can teach you a lot if you just relax, feel what they do, and don't expect every WHITE MC to be Eminem, White Dawg, Bubba Sparxx, and all them other FACTORY SPIN-OFFS!!!!!!! Clean out them Ears,Botty-bwoy!!!

2 out of 5 stars Really bad! Stay away! It's not too late!.......2001-09-19

I bought this cd only because of the sticker on the cover that said "scratches by d-styles". I should not have let my love for the scratch pickles sway me. Awol one CAN NOT RAP! He sings, kind of like a broke down Everlast. He sounds like some cheesy white dude who is trying to be down. Maybe some people like him.

4 out of 5 stars AWOL ONE don't stop!.......2001-03-27

As a fan of AWOL ONE, I really enjoyed this album. The usual mind-boggling array of rhymes is present, but I've got to subtract one star for occassional repetitiveness. The one-man band, Daddy Kev is sweet. Definitely works ~ a nice addition to your collection!

          4 out of 5 stars A Sarcastick Opera for A Sad Society.....?!?.......2002-08-24

Daddy Kev is droppin some swing breaks.... This is a new anthem for the people I deal with everyday. And who better to mock an entire civilization than the Awolrus??
No one I tell you! He is a borderline schizo, a rambling visionary, and a great MCee of the rarest breed. He's willing to just let the tape roll. He's got written verses and choruses, but he'll always build on it and talk that ish.
His agressiveness comes out on a few tracks. Daddy Kev has brought out a different side in Awol, and it's a good sound for both of them. I hope to see more of these collaborations as well as the 'Lost Angles' compilations.
Celestial was a classic production center, from dj Hive to O.D. on 'beneath the surface', and the website always pushed the Shapeshifter crew. Now it looks like the Records Broken title has taken new form and this release may be difficult to get for a while....but it's a classic and it exists and it will probably be re-released...
So if you have Souldoubt and you like the idea--grab this CD. The beats are even better and Awol is much more adapted to the styles of rhythms Daddy Kev is capable of.. 'Decompose'(trk.5) is my personal favorite, but there all quite nice really....
