Now, if you know any of those names, I probably don't have to do much to sell on you picking this one up. Mos Def? Practically the whole Def Jux crew? Miho Hatori? Tortoise? Not to mention some smokin' artwork. You know by now if you're going to get it, but I'll go into detail anyway.

Ace Rock's nasal flow is an acquired taste, but when you get it you got it. He sounds like he's having a lot of fun on "Train Buffer" dropping lines like "look what you raised, ma/aren't you proud of me" and following it up with "Ma, I need 200 dollars." Mr. Lif, who'd be underrated even if he went platinum, turns in yet another solid track in "Wanted." Souls Of Mischief turn in an awesome track... one of the best on the disc. Yes, that's a hard rock guitar solo you hear on RJD2's "True Confessions." And a damn good one too. Mos Def is... well, Mos Def. You know it's hot. The intro to El-P's Stephen King-inspired "Deadlight" is worth the price of admission.

In short, "Urban Renewal Program" is the sound of a late night drive through NYC. It can be listened a track at a time, but it's best when you keep your finger away from the fast forward button and just let it play. Chocolate Industries have created a tapestry of urban sounds, from hip hop to techno, that need to be experienced from beginning to end. Thank 'em for it by picking this one up.
