4 out of 5 stars I dig it........2006-01-31

When choosing between this collection and their "Sex Packets" album, I went with this. I like "Sex Packets" alot, but half of that album is here, and half of this collection is that album. I also think the best of that really made it here too, not to mention the other seven tracks we get. I admit, a big plus with "Playwutchyalike" was getting "Kiss You Back". That track is awesome, and the rest here holds up as well. My only beef, like others have mentioned, is the edit of "Doowutchyalike". It fades out at around 4 minutes, when the full version is over twice that. That song had a great video too. Overall though, a good collection from one of the party/dance groups of rap.

3 out of 5 stars Remember these tunes?.......2005-10-12

Worth having in your collection for The Humpty Dance and Doowutchyalike alone, which never fail to please audiences from 4 to 64 when played in the car or at parties. Not all the songs are up to that level, though. Sex Packets is probably the one to get; the short version of Doowutchyalike here really bugs me.

5 out of 5 stars The correct DU greatest hits album to buy.......2005-09-14

This collection of DU's greatest hits is complete with "We Got More" from their more recent release Future Rhythm. If you're looking for DU's greatest hits, go with this one. The remastered collection contains many remixes, not original cuts.

That said, there are some "blemishes" on this disc. The version of "Doowutchyalike" on this album is shortened (it ends at the radio fade). And "Same Song," "Underwater Rimes," and "Wussup Wit the Luv" are non-original cuts (see the track listing for details). However, if you're going for a greatest hits, these songs probably aren't what you're worried about.

Enjoy and doowutchyalike.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome album!.......2005-09-14

I never realized until now how great this 80's group is. Other than the awesome artwork on the cover, personally, the best songs on this cd are "Kiss you back" and "The Humpty Dance". I listen to it all the time! Great cd.

4 out of 5 stars A must for fans!.......2005-08-04

This CD is a compilation of the best that is DU. It takes you back to the time and place where you first listened this this funky, fun music.

4 out of 5 stars Snoop Dogg Post Deathrow (Rating: 8 out of 10- -4 stars).......2007-02-26

Obviously we have a bunch of idiot reviewers here. People who give this one star and claim that stuff from Doggystyle isn't on here must not know what the hell is going on. There is a Snoop Doggy Dogg's Deathrow's Greatest Hits CD that has stuff from Snoop made from 1993-1997. This is what Snoop made from 1998-2003. Did you even think for a second that Suge Knight was going to give Snoop the rights to his older material? There are many gems on here include one of his best songs "B Please" which is my favorite song from him post Death Row.

I don't give it a perfect rating because some of his hit song were lack luster. This is a perfect overview of what Snoop made since he left Death Row Records. Don't listen to these one and two star reviewers. People claim to be Snoop Dogg fans, but are obviously not knowing the situation at hand.

4 out of 5 stars Good, But There Are Songs Are Missing .......2006-11-03

This is a good CD but there are songs missing. Snoop Dogg doesn't own any of his Deathrow songs anymore, he signed all his deathrow songs over to Suge. So songs like the original Gin And Juice, The original What's My Name, and Doggfather aren't on here.

5 out of 5 stars Snoop dogg.......2006-07-11

First off this is The Best of Snoop Dogg not Snoop Doggy Dogg so of course there won't be any of the old tracks on this. If you want the best of Snoop Doggy Dogg go get Death Row's Snoop Doggy Dogg's Greatest Hits.

Anyway this is for any fan of Snoop it has all his best songs from his No Limit released albums with the hits Lay Low, Still A G Thang, Woof!, B Please, From Tha Chuuuch To Da Palace, Loosen Control, Beautiful, and What's My Name Pt.2 plus plenty of over great songs. With no doubt Snoop Dogg can't compare to the classic Snoop Doggy Dogg but Snoop changed and we can't do anything about it.

Anyway if you are a fan of the new Snoop than this is definitely for you but if you are only a fan of the old snoop than you probably won't like this that much.

After this it's not such a bad idea to get another Snoop album but I would say this is a good place to start your collection.

2 out of 5 stars Not What the Title Promises.......2006-05-17

Okay, first let me just say I understand that this is a collection of Snoop's material ranging from 1998 through 2002 (his days on the No Limit label). I also understand that crafting a greatest hits album is never an easy task. Everyone has their personal favorites and not every good track can make the final cut.

The thing is, greatest hits albums are designed for the casual fan. For someone who likes the artist's music, but doesn't want to shell out the cash for all the albums. So, the question in determining whether or not you have a winning compilation is not would it satisfy the hardcore fans, but would it satisfy someone who just wants the best of the best. This "best of" collection would not.

If the album had been titled, "The Best of Snoop Dogg's No Limit Years" or "Snoop Dogg: 1998-2002", I think I would take less issue with it's release. But the fact is, this title is just misleading to the customer. Snoop's "biggest" hits almost all came from his Death Row days but you won't find "What's My Name?", "Gin & Juice" or "Doggy Dogg World" here. Hell, even "My Heart Goes Boom," one of the best cuts from the No Limit years is missing.

But enough about what isn't here. Let's talk about what is here. The best song on this compilation is easily "Beautiful" and "The One and Only" is also quite good. But the Stone Cold Steve Austin Theme? What's My Name and Gin and Juice......Part II? Several other songs the casual fan hasn't even heard of?

The bottom line is I don't think someone who just wants the best of Snoop's material should begin here. The prior-released Death Row's Snoop Doggy Dogg Greatest Hits offers more of Snoop's best songs, but also some uneven rarities. I would suggest a casual fan just buy a copy of "Doggystyle." Honestly, it contains most of the best work Snoop has ever done and I think it might be good enough to convince you to listen to what Snoop has produced since. Some of this "Best of" collection may be all right, but if I thought this was truly the Dogg's best work, I wouldn't be too eager to listen to the rest. Do yourself a favor and pass this one by.

4 out of 5 stars Snoop has many Good songs.......2006-03-13

Like The Other Reviwers Said It is Hard Making a greatest Hits Cd For snoop For What ever Reasons.Snoop Dogg Has a Alot Of good songs Ranging from Deep Cover To The 213 collaboration to Tha Church Volume. If He has another Greatest Hits Cd.He Should Consider Having a 2 Disc Cd with 20+ Songs each.Who knows mabee when he decides to stop doing solo Cd's mabee he will drop a bomb of greatest hits.

    Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Del Tha Funkee Homosapien From 1991-1995 While Signed To Electra.......2006-08-15

This right here is basically a Del Greatest Hits album from the two albums that hes realeased on Elektra records (No Need For Alarm (1993) and I Wish My Brother George Was Here (1991)). Del would be dropped from Elektra around 1996 while he was recording "Future Development".

Now I have a beef with Elektra Records ever since I found out about the situation with that K.M.D. album "Black Bastards". In addition, around '04/'05, they would be bought out by Atlantic Records, but before they go, they would try to make some money by putting out some greatest hits albums under their name from some of their major artists (Brand Nubian, Pete Rock & CL Smooth, Busta Rhymes, and more). This Del Tha Funkee Homosapien album would be apart of this also.

Now since he recorded two albums, Elektra would put some of the songs from them, as well as some rare 12" singles that were remixed that were not avaliable on the albums. The songs "Ahonetwo, Ahonetwo", "Mistdobalina", "Sleepin On My Couch" and "Dr. Bombay" were the funky tracks that would appear on the "I Wish My Brother George Was Here" and "Wack MC's" would appear on the "No Need For Alarm" album. Some of the remix tracks like "Catch A Bad One (remix)" and "Wrongplace (Cas remix)" would be good additions to this album (the origonals appeared on the "No Need For Alarm" album), although I don't think the remixes of the "I Wish My Brother..." album would amount to the origonals. Some of the unavailable tracks like "Burnt" (from the flipside of "Mistadobalina" single) features Casual and Souls Of Mischief thats good for many Hiero fans, while Pep Love and Q-Tip would join in for the track "Undisputed Champs", which is also pretty tight to listen to. I had a friend who had the "Judgement Night" soundtrack and the track "Missing Link" was on there as well as it is on here also.

Well, there you have it. Basically a bunch of Del tracks while he was under Elektra Records before he was cut from the label. I'm not too mad at this, because Elektra just HAD to make some money on the stuff that they owned. Although I believed that some tracks could have been an addition to this here (like "Worldwide" and "No More Worries" from the No Need For Alarm album as an example), but at the same time they were to release some hidden, hard-to-find tracks that many fans spent long a time looking for. If you don't feel like or don't have the money to buy Del's first two albums, or if you own both album and want to hear some lost tracks that Del had, then get this here. Del has plenty more never released tracks he recorded around that time, that could be found on the Hiero Oldies album.

In a nutshell and in response to the reviewer below me: Del had nothing to do with this album. He ended all his ties with Elektra records when he was cut from their roster around 1995/1996. This was all Elektra's cash in on one of their better acts before they were discontinued. But if you a Del fan, you knew that, didn't you?

1 out of 5 stars Del, what're you doing with your life?.......2006-03-14

What has Del seriously done for the music industry in the past 5-6 years? He releases Deltron 3030, one of the best hip hop albums of all time, and then drops off the face of the earth. I've seen him since at Hiero shows almost too drunk/high/whatever to even perform. I don't want to give the impression that I have never liked Del. In fact, Del has been one of my favorite emcees throughout my entire hip hop listening days. It is just a shame that I see him sell-out and release a "best of" album. Really Del...a "best of" album? Most people these days could probably make a better Del mix with the music they own on their very own computers. Unless Del is hard at work at some masterpiece finale album thats gonna rival the next Dr. Dre release and change hip hop forever, he's lost my support as a dedicated fan or even respecting individual. Don't buy this album. Don't download this album. If somebody tries to give you this album for free; fart for the time equivalent to 16 music tracks, then tell that person that what you have just done is more worth hearing than Del sell himself out through Elektra.

    2 out of 5 stars D-e-l.......2005-11-29

I remember around 1991, NBA Inside Stuff did a feature on B.J. Armstrong (my favorite player) of the Chicago Bulls. B.J. said that his favorite song was "Mr. Dobalina". I remember thinking, well, if B.J. Armstrong likes this guy named Del tha Funkee Homosapien, then he must be good.

And yes, Del's first album "I Wish My Brother George Was Here" is an absolute hands-down hip-hop classic. So I recommend that album over this one (it's cheap too). Del was at his creative peak with that first album; it featured great production from Ice Cube (back when Ice Cube made good albums instead of movies).

Since then, his career's been a mixed bag. His CD's are very inconsistent. A Best Of CD is probably a good way to get an overview of those mixed-result cd's.

But I think you'd also be better off buying "Deltron 3030" and "I Wish My Brother George..." instead.

5 out of 5 stars A great intro to tha funkee one........2005-09-25

Like a lot of people, I never heard of Del tha Funkee Homosapien until Gorillaz came around in 2001. Who was that guy with the insane rap in Clint Eastwood and Rock The House? Eventually, I checked out his album: Deltron 3030. It featured Dan the Automator, another one of the top workers on the Gorillaz project. Deltron 3030 was, and still is, one of the best albums I've heard. Anyone who thinks rap is all about the bling best give that album a chance before turning it down. Deltron 3030 had great music, sick beats, and of course, the masterful lyrics that only Del could provide. So I checked out this album: The Elektra Years recently, and it's every bit as good as Deltron was, and another perfect introduction to Del's solo stuff if you haven't heard it yet.

I'm no rap expert. Not by a long shot. I don't listen to many rappers, as the majority of what's out there today is pretty sad. Del, however, is an exception. His lyrics are smart, he doesn't swear every other word, and you won't hear any slow sappy raps about loved ones from him *loooks over at P. Diddy*. He's a pretty upbeat guy that doesn't stop to catch his breath. In fact, you can't hear him breathe in-between verses, like you can with so many other artists out there. And on The Elektra Years, you'll witness some insane rhymes. There are some things I didn't think were possible to rap about, yet Del's able to. At the same time, some catchy beats are playing- most of which sound like they're from the early 90s, when rap was making its presence known. Again, I'm no hip hop expert, or a Del historian, but you can definately tell that a lot of these were from earlier in his career. Horns are used a lot in the tracks, and they work. Whereas there's a horn overkill in early 90s raps (Rico Suave in particular), they aren't over used here. And you gotta love how he throws in some rock elements. A few tracks have a pure rock driven guitar added into the mix, making everything even more diverse. You know what? I'm going to stop this review. If you liked Del's work on Gorillaz, then there's nothing keeping you from enjoying his solo projects. I'm not going to try and spoonfeed everything to you about how awesome this man is.

Some of my favorite tracks on this album (though all of them are good) are:

    -Mistadobalina
    -Dr. Bombay
    -Wrongplace
    -Ahonetwo, Ahonetwo
    -Sleepin' on my Couch
    -Eye Examination
    -Missing Link
    -The Undisputed Champs

After this perfect best of collection, I'm wondering just how good his other, full albums hold up. Del tha Funkee Homosapien breaks the rap stereotypes, and here's to hoping that he continues puting out the good stuff. Bow before tha funkee one.

No self respecting del fan would buy this album. I bought it and didn't respect myself afterwards. Not the best sampling of del tracks, even for old school. Not to mention del has likened his time at elektra to being a slave on a plantation...in fact do yourself a favor go cop the album with that track- future development.

1 out of 5 stars Are You Kidding Me? Q&A? Yeah right!.......2006-06-29

This has got to be the wackest cd I've heard in awhile. I am so extremely disappointed. I'm a huge lover of Questionmark Asylum and everybody kept telling me that Q&A were copycats of the Pharcyde. I want to issue a roundhouse kick to all those people who sent me off. These groups couldn't be further apart. Q&A would never do a song calling themselves jigaboos and saying "well, we'll just get money anyway," singing stupid songs about "Clinton's on his way," and make a whole juvenile song about somebody's mother. Ugh, I'm so incredibly annoyed that I bought this cd. The first time I really paid attention to them was when the light-skinned dude did the "do" with the woman from "Real World" a few years back. I liked the beat to "Passin' Me By" so that sent some more interest, considering a few people were telling me they were just like Q&A. Besides the high jokey voice, it is NOT HAPPENING. I really liked the beats to "Drop," "Runnin'," and "Passing Me By," but when I listened to the words, I realized I'd have done better with the instrumental version. Folks were telling me this was real hip-hop but I'm hearing the b-word and the n-word all through this and a bunch of brainless music. I'm putting this up for sale immediately!

I really enjoyed the Pharcyde when I was in highschool. I was cruising through some music and saw this cd. I would say if you like these guys GET THIS CD!! I listened to it every day for a month after I bought it. Roll a phatty take a drive and listen to the Pharcyde!!

5 out of 5 stars every song is tight; these guys are awesome.......2003-04-23

This is where the real hip-hop is at. Back when The Pharcyde was busting rhymes in L.A., gangster rap on the death row label was at its apogee. Sadly, this unique band has often been overlooked, and they never garnered the commercial success that artists like Tupac and Dr. Dre got. This greatest hits disc is comprised of the best songs from Labacab and Bizarre Ride (plus a few unreleased tracks), certainly the best Pharcyde cds. Otha Fish, Runnin', and Passin' Me By are three classic songs that should be regarded in the upper echelon of rap music along with huge rap hits like What's My Name, California Love, Nothin But A G Thang, etc. If you like hip-hop at all and you don't own anything by The Pharcyde, this is a good place start.

2 out of 5 stars THIS IS NOT A GREATEST HITS!.......2002-05-06

Although this cd contains great songs, it fails to captue the wizardry and true talents of the Pharcyde. If you do not have a Pharcyde Cd, do not get this so you have the best songs, this album just doesn't cut it. Pick up "Bizarre Ride...." before anything. This Cd just leaves out too much, using over 4 of thier interludes and skits to fill up the 18 tracks, they are very funny skits though.

5 out of 5 stars I slipped on the sublime and fell into the pharcyde.......2001-10-03

Pharcyde a great hip hop group with hilarious lyrics of a young man's frustration "Passin Me Bye" mama disses "Yo Mama" and well known hits "Runnin'" (which appeared at the beginning of a Law & Order Episode) I love very sophisticated complex hip-hop but I have to say I love spinning this disc in the ride and drivin around town I feel instantly better listening to this cd this is a great compilation of a lot of the Pharcyde's best work, caught these guys in concert with Ugly Duckling last year (ugly duckling is another more obscure hip-hop group for those who are wondering what that is) and I can reccomend Pharcyde's concert as much as this cd this is just great energized hip-hop though not as complex as other groups like say the Roots or Common they are however very talented and their music is just good listening get this cd!

5 out of 5 stars Phat Comp by The Shot Calla.......2006-05-03

D-Shot brings together a sick comp disc of some of the best underground acts from the West Coast, ranging from Mac Mall to Spice 1, 3X Krazy, to South central Cartel's Prodeje and Havoc, and DMS from Seattle. The standout tracks are the 1) G-Funk classic "Streets Made Me" by D-Shot and Spice 1, with that funky smooth beat by Prodeje 2)"Hit The Gas" by 3X Krazy (also on their album Sick-O), and 3) Prodeje and Havoc's "I Puts It Down." Since it came out in 1995, you know there will be no shortage of that Cali G-Funk. I liked the variety of artists and production. This album is perfect for any West Coast rap fan.

5 out of 5 stars One of the greatest Sic Wid It releases.......2005-10-06

This album is a masterpiece. My favourite song is #6, D-Shot does the rapping and Spice does the hook. I also like Mac Mall on song #4 and I like Dru Down's song. 3X Krazy does a good job on song #9. I recommend this CD to anyone who likes Celly Cel, E-40 and B-Legit's mid 90's releases.

Man, I used to bump this e're day taking the BART from S.F. to Oakland going to the Boxing Gym...You talk about some music that will get you hyphy!!! This album represents what the Bay was about...independant, game infested, and that H.U.S.T.L.E. The is album came out around the time when the Bay was lacing the hip hop game with so much knowledge. At this time the Bay Area was home to more independent hip hop record labels than any where else in the WORLD. Now just marinate on that for a minute, young brothas owning labels and believe me, even though they was not on MTV or BET, these cats was making major money. It is finally getting out how the Bay has influenced hip hop by showing cats you can make money and not have to pimp your career away to a major label. True Fact. Real knowledge. I don't know what it is about being raised in the Bay, but cats just don't believe in waiting for somebody to give you nothing, you got to go out there and make it happen...That is always been the thing. Like right now, cats be selling they records out the trunk, all over the country, The Bay was doing that in the early 80's. Short Dogg is the godfather of the game on that one...when you really look at it, that was a wise decision. Even now you hear about cats struggling to get the radio and the dj's to play your stuff. Short was like my stuff is cool, people will want to hear it, once they want to hear, they going to get at the dj's to play my stuff in the club, once my stuff is hittin' in the club...my music will spread. This Boss Ballin album was in that genre that came out of the Bay that was ahead of its time. Compilations...there were no hiphop compilations until this era. They Bay was churning so many GOOD compilations out, the industry started to copy it. You see, alot of the independent labels came out of these compilations. Great album. I know I been rambling but I just wanted to drop some knowledge on this Bay Area hiphop thing. All this stuff ya'll see on videos now been copied by these cats, all that slang and poppin colla's, we been doing that fa longgggggggg time...yadda meann!!!

With hot songs from C-Bo,Seattle's D.M.S.,Mac Mall,Prodigy and Havok(South Central Cartel)and D-Shot feat.Spice-1 this is a solid rap compilation considering the fact that theres to many rap comps out there that r put together that dont cut it.This isn't Above the rim but its far from Vanilla Ices and Will Smiths greatest hits....
