Magnum Force [Deluxe Limited Edition]

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
For all its pistol-packing pretensions, Heltah Skeltah's Magnum Force strikes more like a .22. It's a perfectly decent hip-hop album, but decent is about as exciting as it gets. The duo of Ruck and Rock are blessed with two of the more distinctive flows and voices in the rap world, but neither they nor their motley crew of producers are able to capitalize on it to any degree. Songs like "I Ain't Havin' That," "Magnum Force," and "Gunz 'n Onez" might peak your interest for a quick minute, but they quickly fade into obscurity. Ironically, some of the best moments on the album come in the form of skits like "2 Keys" and the hilarious "Call Tyrone" (following up on Erykah Badu's notorious song of the same name). --Oliver Wang

5 out of 5 stars My favorite Schifrin score........2005-08-24

After contributing what many, including myself, believe to be one the absolute greatest cop film scores of all time for Dirty Harry, it was no surprise that jazz buff Clint Eastwood would want composer Lalo Schifrin to return to score the sequel to the trendsetting cop thriller. Magnum Force was a very different movie from Dirty Harry, this time the villains are Harry's very own - rogue police officers that have grown tired of the legal loopholes criminals use to escape justice and have become Judge, Jury AND Executioners. The tone of the movie was far less serious and placed greater emphasis on over the top action. The body count is the highest of the series, with spectacular gun fights seeming to breakout every ten or fifteen minutes. Ted Post's direction also differed from Don Siegel's raw documentary style, making Magnum Force, as the soundtrack's liner notes point out, a more mass market action movie than its predecessor had been. Schifrin's score reflects this change in tone, being larger, louder, and far more involved in the movie than Dirty Harry's sparse score had been. Magnum Force was my introduction to Dirty Harry and Lalo Schifrin's music. The Force's military theme (heard to excellent effect in The Cop, Magnum Force, Rogue Gun and others) remains my all time favorite film cue. As far as I am concerned, this is Schifrin's best score and it is an essential for his fans and any and all lovers of film music. Highest recommendation.

4 out of 5 stars Heltah Skeltah (aka Smif-N-Wessun).......2007-07-23

If you are a Boot Camp Clik fan then this is an obvious must have. Heltah Skeltah (Sean Price and Rock) make a great combo. A classic cd and must have for any true hip-hop fan

4 out of 5 stars NOT AS GOOD AS THA FIRST...HELL IT'S GOOD TO HAVE!.......2005-11-29

YEAH TO ME HELTAH'S SECOND ALBUM WILL BE GOOD TO HAVE,FOR A COLECTER EDITION!!!

4 out of 5 stars Almost..........2005-08-22

Compared to the first it falls short. Both beats & lyrics were great just not superb like their first. The beats varied which in some cases help an album but in this it didn't. Check it out!

5 out of 5 stars Heltah Skeltah-Magnum Force.......2003-05-07

The Heltah Skeltah Magnum Force Album is true example of what raw, hardcore hip hop album is all about. Many people thought Heltah Skeltah would not come out with and album as good as Nocturnal, but they definately prove the people wrong. Ruck and Rock of Heltah Skeltah definately come with it with metaphorical rhymes on songs light "perfect jab","I ain't haven that", and "from long beach to brownsville. This album definately worth buying

4 out of 5 stars Heltah rips but not like on "Nocturnal".......2001-08-28

Heltah sophomore album "Magnum Force" is a slight disappointment for me. Telling the truth, I copped this CD first then "Nocturnal" and I gotta admit this one wasn't as good as the 1st. The strength of the album comes from Rock (he got a unforgettable voice... whoaaah!). There's so many bangin' tracks on the album like 'Worldwide', the Meth collabo 'Gunz 'n onez', the Tribe Called Quest sampled 'I ain't havin that', the rugged 'Sean Wigginz', the gun-totin' "Magnum Force' and the BCC-MFC impressed 'Gangz all here'. There's a really deep inside showing track on the album 'Hold your head' (I digged it). But there's some drawbacks on this CD. For example the Dogg Pound influenced garbage 'Long Beach II Brownsville' and 'Chika Woo'. The Dogg Pound collabo sounded like a average DP song with no rugged beats... you feel? And 'Chika Woo' was like a average Jay-Z stuff... you know? But in addition, I digged this CD. Heltah worth buying. It's not a "Nocturnal" but really rep.s what these MCs is stood for: beats, rhymes and verbal battles. If you like Duck Down, you gonn dig it, too. But be cautious: Duck Down is able to do better!!! Told!

Heltah Skeltah would have to be one of the most slept on crews out there this album along with there first "Nocturnal" are hot as hell and i know i been bumpin em for 8 years and thay have never got old to me.In my view Heltah Skeltah are the best to come out of the book camp click not far behind them would have to be The Representativz. So i guess what im sayin is do yourself a faver and get both there albums today and be sure to get a copy of The Representativz "Angels Of Death" while your at it.PEASE -- MFCeeeeeeeee

5 out of 5 stars THE MOST SLEPT ON GROUP AND ALBUM.......1999-06-18

Heltah Skeltah, without a doubt, is one of the more original, clever, and (unfortunately) slept on groups out there. The production is incredible and once again Ruck and Rock bring something new to the table. They have the FUNNIEST skits in hip hop, and are creative with their rhymes...don't get me wrong, most folks who try to be creative can't pull it off, but Heltah Skeltah can, and do. Priority Records didn't do justice to this album by the shoddy way they promoted it. Once again, if you like tight tracks, gifted flows, and creativity you must buy this album.

5 out of 5 stars THIS CD IS DA BOMB.......1999-05-26

Ok, first off, the album starts off wonderfully with "Worldwide", and then leads up to other crazy songs like "Call of the Wild" and "I Ain't Havin' That." I would list all my personal favorties but that would be listing the whole CD. This CD right now is one of my best ones that I have, next to Kurupt and the Wu-Tang. Then Heltah Skeltah mixes it up by adding Tha Dogg Pound and having Method Man come on some of there tracks. Their beats and lyrics are excellent. For their beats I would give them a 10 out of 10. They were just fantastic. And my advice to everyone out there is to get this CD. LISTEN TO ME AND GET IT. It is worth its price.

3 out of 5 stars Sophomore Slump, Big Time.......1999-04-22

This CD isn't bad. In fact, it's infinitely better than, for example, anything put out by No Limit or Bad Boy. However, it fails to live up to the potential of their debut, Nocturnal, and continues the apparent inability of the previously hardcore Boot Camp Clik to stay away from second-rate production and R&B choruses. Also, the dynamic duo, who lyrically dominate almost everyone, squander the album by filling it with guest rappers. Besides Method Man and the always energetic Starang Wondah, the others featured on the album just don't compare to Ruck and Rock. For some reason I'm especially annoyed by a Redman impersonator named "Doc Holliday" who shows up on a few songs. Anyway, not a bad album, but I wish the BCC would stick closer to the hardcore Beatminerz sound that they used to have.

As the title says soundtracks from three of the dirty harry films, the music tracks to the first 2 films is excellent bluesy jazzy sounds and a fuzz guitar sound and keyboards all featured and blended well.Sadly the third film soundtrack is the weakest so is the film what I can remember of it.Cd comes with a wealth of information and an interview with the composer the sound quality is excellent remastered well,I was pleasently surprised.

decided more guitars, yeah...yeah...huh, more better?
What if he had never lost that foppy fake british
accent? Ok, there's no need to ask those kind of
questions...no need to think about the creation of
another EMF... Bands get bored of doing the same old
thing. Most of the innovators get a brilliant album
out and then move on to something else. Sometimes it's
a good move, sometimes it makes you wonder why. In the
musical genome project, certain combinations never get
explored. Ministry didn't continue in the vain of
"Rape and honey". Enter Sielwolf. They too must have
wondered why Ministry never went on to complete the
exploration of that phase of their music. Leaving them
wanting more with no place to get it, the folks in
Sielwolf decided to take matters into their own hands.
Skip to track 3 or else get engulfed by standard, run
of the mill guitar shredding industrial. "Das Neue
Fleisch" marks the beginning of the engaging
material. It's a touch of Ministry on a tribal day
enhanced with magic mushrooms, the songs from here on
out warrant attention. The pace slows down into a dark
ambient noise piece with "Wuste Ruropa" and "Nautilus
2". The beast with forty eyes rises again with
"Nihilon" and the blood starts to pour. For once,
someone has actually answered a "What if?" question
successfully and proved that room did exist for more
"Land of Rape and Honey" material
