4 out of 5 stars A lot better than the first.......2006-09-13

I always thought Jadakiss was solid(even when he was on Sadboy). His freestyle is nasty but he showcases his rawness here and there and not through the whole album. Kiss The Game Goodbye was good but this album is a lot better. Standout Tracks: WHAT YOU SO MAD AT, SHINE(DJ Quik and Snoop's verses were fire), BRING YOU DOWN, TIMES UP, WHY(the best track on here), REAL HIP HOP, STILL FEEL ME, BY YOUR SIDE GETTIN IT IN, AIR IT OUT(the second best track on here), WELCOME TO D-BLOCK and KISS OF DEATH. Filler: U Make Me Wanna(featuring Mariah Scarey) is the worst girlie record since.......Ja Rule's Mesmerized! Hot Sauce To Go is superdull and even though he said some things of truth in Im Going Back the crummy Atlantic Starr sample makes me sick to my stomach! Bottom Line: Kiss Of Death is arguably Jadakiss's best effort. Most of the production was great and Jada sounds a lot better here than he sounds on his first album. Now if he can only refrain from making tracks with brain dead bimbos like paris hilton.

5 out of 5 stars Great Album.......2006-07-24

Jadakiss is one of my favorite rappers because he spits fire and has a lot of punchlines that make you rewind and say what did he say. Anyways this is better then his debut and this album has better production and lyrics which is my opinion. He did try to go pop a little on some songs on here but that doesn't bother me because he always stays true to the streets. My favorites are "Why?","Times Up","Air It Out","Shoot Outs" and "Welcome To D-Block". It's worth buying if you are a fan of rap or a fan of Jadakiss but I say stay away to those that like bubblegum rap because this is not it. F@CK THE HATERS

5 out of 5 stars Huge Improvement.......2006-04-29

Some may consider my review heavily biased, since I've been a huge Jada fan since the lox days, but i believe this album deserves more shine than its gotten. In my opinion a HUGE improvement over the first album, and cuts like "Why" and "Air it out" really shows Jada's improvement in his lyrical content. Like the first album, its still very much for the streets, but at the same time it now has the crossover commercial appeal as well, without being too corny like many other artists nowadays. Even more, some cuts actually address viable social issues unlike 90% of the gangsta rap nowadays. Jada at his finest.

5 out of 5 stars best album ever.......2007-07-01

You suck if you don't own this cd in your collection. If you're religious or not, Pick..It..Up! The chaotic madness on this cd just never gets old for me. I really don't need to write an extended review because you should already be listening to it.

5 out of 5 stars Getaway.......2007-05-28

I've had this album for a while, ever since it came out, oh what five years ago? Just never on disc format. This album still has alot of push in it. I just bought it for the first time, in compact disc form, the other night and I still love it to death.

Norma Jean sets the benchmark for all those who have tried to follow in their footsteps. This album alone proves why they are the best, the superior definition to this genre, and what better album to show off as being the best of the bunch then Bless the Martyr and Kiss the Child. Buy it now. Even all you pop punkers out there reading this.

Why are you still reading this!!
I was lucky enough to find these guys one day and this album ripped my face off and then tried putting it back on so it could rip it off again. I love everything on this CD and I pitty someone who loves hardcore or metal who hasn't heard this.. your standards will go a bit higher and suddenly things you thought were the pinnacle suddenly will not seem as good.

In all seriousness they have a created a great album that anyone metal head/ hardcore fan should own. I've been a fan ever since this came out and have not regretted anything they've put out. Please give it a try!

Amazon.com essential recording

Disney's Snow White, the world's first animated musical feature (1937), is still a standard in the industry. Though 1930s recording technology was primitive by today's standards, the Disney music studios have always used the available technology to its fullest, and this recording still stands up. The mature but hauntingly childlike Adriana Caselotti as Snow White is a unique vocal presence, and the songs include "Whistle While You Work," "Heigh-Ho," and "Some Day My Prince Will Come." The score is nearly as great an accomplishment as the film itself. --John Sanchez

5 out of 5 stars The Churchill's are very talented persons........2007-02-13

When I was 6, I already had a very good sense of what is a fine music score. I'm 73 now and still loving that music.

5 out of 5 stars One Song.......2006-02-19

I bought this album almost especially for the piece of music entitled "Special Sort Of Death." It does sound creepy but that's what I loved about it. From I saw the film I was like I have to have that.

Anyway another reason for me purchasing this album was the main titles for the film I love the ochestration. My favourite song on this album would have to be One Song followed by with A Smile and a Song.

And number 5 (a piece of music) I can't remember what it's called but it is creepy too the part that has snow white running through the woods.

Someday my prince will come is nice too. Adriana's voice is a little high and annoying sometimes though. But it's still nice to listen to. I listen to this album alot it's very nice and I like to listen to the version of One Song that is played at the end of the movie.

4 out of 5 stars good soundtrack for halloween.......2005-07-14

first of all, i have seen the movie and the hag scares me very much. about the music,it's not good music for children because the orchestral moving creates dark suites. the other part of makin' pies is no exception. i listened to special sort of death on a site called mp3.com and the beginning is very disturbing almost, because it's when the queen appears as the old witch and she plots to destroy snow white
Queen:(laughing)it's not for you, it's for snow white
anyways, bye-bye

5 out of 5 stars REMasterpiece!.......2003-01-21

This soundtrack is a perfect compliment to the film, and It's gloriously remastered to make you feel you are still watching and not just listening to the music from the movie itself.

In the liner notes I read the original soundtrack only consisted of five songs, the five songs we hear sung in the film. "One song/I'm Wishing", "Hi Ho", "The Yodeling Song", "Some day my prince will come", and "Whistle while you work". Over the years, the instrumental musical score was thrown in to create a wonderful masterpiece of a soundtrack.

I highly recommend purchasing this. If you like the music from the movie, you will love this. After hearing this for the first time(I've now heard it at least 100, thanks to my 2 yr. old), the movie is brought out to be more of a musical adventure as well as a wonderful story to be told.
This is my son's favorite c.d., and he has so much fun dancing and singing along.

5 out of 5 stars A Magical, Delightful Soundtrack.......2002-10-07

This was the first of the newly remastered and expanded "Disney classic soundtracks" that I purchased for my collection, and it's still my favorite. How wonderful to have, not only the vocals from the old vinyl version ("I'm Wishing/One Song," "With a Smile and a Song," "Heigh-Ho," "Bluddle-Uddle-Um-Dum," "The Dwarfs' Yodel Song" (and if you don't want to get up and dance to it, there's something wrong with you!), and "Some Day My Prince Will Come"), but the background instrumentals from the track, never before available to the at-home audience. The "Queen Theme," the chilling "Far Into the Forest," and "I've Been Tricked" particularly bring scenes from the movie springing to mind. There are also two songtracks that were cut from the film print. If you're a Disney-lover, your collection must positively include this CD.

3 out of 5 stars Rock solid Motorhead, but overall, not outstanding.......2007-06-29

Tell you the truth these days I don't listen to all that much rock music these days. I was pretty much a metalhead at school but as I get into my thirties my musical tatses have....not really "mellowed" per se, but certainly diversified in to other genres of music. Motorhead are somewhat of an exception to this, and have been a big favourite for nearly 20 years.

Lemmy- the man has gone beyond rock star status for me into an inspiration. He's devoted his life to Motorhead, being true to what he believes. He's the epitome of honesty. And at 61 he's still rocking away. (To put it into perspective Beethoven was late fifties when he passed away.) I salute you sir!

As for the album itself, as much as I enjoy it, I would tend to think of it as "good" rather than "great". It's solid, consistent, but the only exceptional track for me was Living In The Past. Compare this to say, Hammered, an album that has some truly excellent songs, mixed with some forgettable filler material.

You may disagree, but if everyone had the same opinion , then reviews would be boring!

Worth owning if you're a Motorhead fan. If this is your first Motorhead album, then I think you've got a decent idea of what the band is about, but better material awaits you.

4 out of 5 stars Just Motorhead.......2007-05-28

i was into Moterhead way before any person respected them, but isn't that music and the industry? This cd sees them not slowing down. They are like the rock that never gets erroded with time,it's still standing. They have some really good riffs and can still blow the balls of a charging rhino.
Lemmy is immortal and these guys will always be legends in my book

5 out of 5 stars And im not much of a metal man........2007-03-13

There is not much of metal i like.I like metalica, judas priest, iron maiden, motorhead and a few others that most people never heard. And this album just fu**k*n* rocks!Inferno was good with about 5 songs i really loved, this one i like at least 7 songs.

5 out of 5 stars Gettin' better with time........2007-02-06

When most bands tend to "loose it" over a period of time, a (very) select few don't. Motorhead falls into the latter catagory. Another great album by the band that will never grow old or go away. LEMMY IS THE MAN!!!!

Set in dark, slickened streets and populated by a stellar ensemble cast, this adaptation of Frank Miller's hard-edged, film noir inspired graphic novels plays like comic-book-come-to-life—not surprising, as Miller is credited as Robert Rodriguez's co-director (with a bit of help from Quentin Tarantino). The soundtrack to this bleak, compelling exercise in pure noir stylism is provided mostly by director Rodriguez, with an occasional assist from past collaborators John Debney (Spy Kids and its sequel) and Graeme Revell (From Dusk Til Dawn). While their largely synth-driven cues tend naturally towards brooding atmospheric soundscapes, their tense electro-rhythms are seasoned with bracing doses of sinewy, sensual sax and dotted with the occasional bongo flourish, details that musically evoke both a shadowy humanity and the film's genre-savvy roots. Also featuring disparate, yet wholly integrated contributions from techno-house savants Fluke (the hypnotic "Absurd") and 20th century Mexican classicist Silvestre Revueltas, it's the sinister flipside to the future-jazz sheen of Vangelis' classic Blade Runner.--Jerry McCulley

i listened to the servant song and i know everyone said its pretty well known that that is the song they used in the trailer, but if you listen to "broken chairs" by built to spill it really sounds like parts of the trailer music too. and its also a good song. so i would recommend trying that as well!

Your Welcome ;)

4 out of 5 stars An addendum to "FangsFirst" comment.......2005-09-16

FangsFirst is absoluty correct -- trailer music is almost never on the movie's soundtrack. An interesting additional bit of trivia, however; almost all trailer themes ARE from a movie soundtrack, just from a DIFFERENT movie than the one the trailer is for!

So if you're looking for "Cells" by The Servant (the song from the Sin City trailer), take a look at the soundtrack to Transporter 2. You'll find it along with another song by The Servant. "Cells" does have lyrics to it (which aren't on the Sin City trailer), but it's still a damned good song.

Just thought I'd share that with everybody.

5 out of 5 stars F.A.N.T.A.S.T.I.C.!.......2006-02-02

I've got the original music (including v2 and v3), the books (the best is Heitland's The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Book; still in print);
the 22 VHS tapes issued in the early 1990's (a haphazard collection issued in no particular order of episodes that boasted famous guest stars). Can I please get the whole series on DVD? I have not seen Mother Fear toying with Illya (The Children's Day Affair) in over 40 years.

5 out of 5 stars At LAST the complete series ORIGINAL soundtrack, the wait is over!.......2005-07-12

Many of us have always thought The Man From UNCLE had the best music for a TV series ever, and this three double CD release confirms this. Wow! I'd be just happy with one CD, but having SIX (three double CDs packages) is absolutely out of this world, I mean, a lifetime wait come true.

Indeed, this is an unbelievable collection of three double CDs packages with the complete series soundtrack, and I mean the complete music, not a tune is missing.

And this is the ORIGINAL Man From Uncle music. Let me stress the point: this is the four years ORIGINAL soundtrack with the original recordings as they were heard throughout the series, not a no-name orchestra doing personal versions of the stuff. The audio transfer is very, very good, the music from late episodes is even in stereo.

Each individual CD carries over 70 minutes of music. All in all there you have the four TV seasons main titles and all, absolutely all of TMFU unforgetable music.

This is not a chronological release, meaning, all CDs have a mix of music from all four TV seasons. Volume 1 is heavier on early TV seasons stuff, fans of Jerry Goldsmith will love it. Those of us who prefer what Gerald Fried and later Richard Shores did with TMFU music, then volume 2 is mandatory. If you are a fan, you can't miss any of these six CDs. However if buying all three double packages is too much for you, you must go with Volume 2, no questions asked. Volume three is the weakest of them as it brings "suites" and a whole CD with "The Girl From Uncle" soundtrack, but you have a bonus "Open Channel D" beeper.

Each package is gorgeous, each with a glossy color booklet with extensive liner notes with details on how each tune was written to a specific TV series episode and how it was used onwards. You have bios on the composers, on how the recordings were made, even an overview on how many instruments were available in each of the years the music was recorded.

So, throw away your Hugo Montenegro Man From Uncle CD, this is the REAL thing.

4 out of 5 stars Great..........2007-07-06

but could have been epic. AFI's music transcends the genre boundaries quite well, and makes for great listening even when stripped down to a string quartet arrangement. Unfortunately Vitamin Records are so quick to capitalize on the band's success that they don't take the time to go over this album and fine tune it to perfection. As noted in the other reviews some of the songs are mislabeled. Further evidence of Vitamin Records' haste at caching in on this can be found in the lax musical arrangements, particularly on The Leaving Song Pt 2 (mislabeled as A Single Second). Although it is one of the standout tracks here one of the most powerful parts of the original song is the bridge, where Jade Pudget's guitar delivers a creepy albeit powerful build up for the final chorus. On the string arrangement the bridge is simply alright, and all four instruments play the exact same notes instead of the complex buildup featured on the original version. This problem plagues a lot of the album, the bridge on Girls Not Grey is less than stellar as well, the cello and viola take up too much space when the violins (lead guitar and vocals) should be more prominently featured.
Don't get me wrong, this album is amazing, and I love it, but it just urks me that it's not the epic that it could be. When you listen to Apocolyptica you know that they are truly feeling the music when they play Metallica, listening to this you can tell that these musicians are just playing some sheet music to pay the rent.

4 out of 5 stars A Change of Mood.......2005-10-26

Well, I think this is a great CD - I love punk as much as the next man (Bad Religion, Pennywise, AFI, Strung Out etc) but even I sometimes want to relax and not jump around the room like an idiot. I found "Punk Goes Acoustic" a nice way to listen to great songs in a more mellow style, and this string quartet cd also does that perfectly. Definitely worth getting, or even buying for your mum for xmas.....

5 out of 5 stars Great music that really makes you appriciate AFI.......2004-11-26

This album really shows off AFI's songwriting talents because it strips down the melodies to classical instruments, and it is performed beautifully. A must for any AFI fan or Classical, almost Opera-esque listener

4 out of 5 stars Good, but what's with the titles?.......2004-09-08

If you like string music and you like AFI, you should certainly enjoy this. However, someone at Vitamin (the record company) apparently wasn't checking their facts - the entire track list is mislabled terribly except for two songs, and the label mishap apparently carried on over to Amazon.com. I've corrected the track list here:

1. Death of Seasons
2. Girl's Not Grey
3. File 13
4. The Leaving Song Pt. 2
5. Lower Your Head And Take It In The Body
6. The Nephilim
7. I Wanna Mohawk (But Mom Won't Let Me Get One)
8. This Celluloid Dream
9. Exsanguination
10. Weathered Tome
11. At A Glance
12. Of Greetings and Goodbyes
13. Catch A Hot One
14. A Single Second

"The Last Kiss" isn't even on the album, but I think they got thrown off by the title switch on the packaging of Black Sails in the Sunset (where "Weathered Tome" and "The Last Kiss" were switched). Still, all in all, an excellent translation of their music into string music and a fairly varied selection from their albums.

4 out of 5 stars Good.......2004-07-20

It is 1000000% better then the other tribute cd. I really enjoy this. Must have for AFI and Orchestra fans.

5 out of 5 stars Stunning, masterpiece .......2005-03-16

It is hard for me to put into words the true greatness of this album. In listening to this album, any real fan of music, regardless of musical preference, should be able to discover the ultimate beauty of this album. With out a doubt, one of the most thought provoking, emotional, evil and incredibly raw album to ever be released. There will never be another At the Gates... ever. The style and melody of this album is truly a one of a kind. This album rips you from start tp finish. It pulls you into the feeling and desperation of the music, the gruesome style, deathly mood, and the compelling and powerful lyrics. This album is a masterful piece of art. You cannot understand untill you listen to the album for yourself, over and over again. It will grow on you like no other music, regardless of genre. This is one of, if not the best melodic death metal album ever created.

5 out of 5 stars ATG at their best.......2004-08-12

This album rips and is the quintessential ATG album imo, lindbergs vocals and the interplay between the guitars is amazing. This album has a truely dark and violent sound and is an example of how harsh this band could be, much more evil vibe than slaughter the soul. you can get six thousand other bands with albums that sound like slaughter the soul, this is the only ablum that sounds like this. highly recomended, now dont be a wuss and buy it.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant.......2004-04-28

This by far has to be my favorite ATG album. Melodic death metal at its best! Thought provoking depressing lyrics trade mark of vocalist Tomas Lindberg, mixed with a variance of grinding and melodic guitars and pounding drums (thanks to Adrian Erlandsson) make this an overall amazing album. It doesn't have the more polished sounds of the latter two ATG albums SOTS and Terminal Spirit Disease. That is the greatest part about it I think. It maintains its raw carnality while balancing out the beauty of the melodies. 5 STARS! BUY IT!

5 out of 5 stars Their best!.......2004-03-21

It's unbelievable I am the first to review this album because this is the best At The Gates album. Not "poppy" like their final (still excellent) album Slaughter Of The Soul but more melodic/accessible than their brutal technical debut The Red In The Sky Is Ours. Dark classical melodies (almost black metallish sometimes), and excellent playing. (Luckily not too technical/freakish like their debut). Too bad the production is a bit thin and soft. Later efforts like Terminal Spirit Disease and Slaughter Of The Soul were better produced, but were also a more accessible/mainstream style of music. This album combines the brutality of their debut (like on the opener "Beyond Good and Evil") with slower, more poetic and utterly beautiful songs like "Raped By The Light Of Christ, "The Break Of Autumn", "Non-Divine" , "Primal Breath" and "The Burning Darkness". A top album, buy it!

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful music........2007-01-10

I sat back with the lights dimmed and a cup of hot coffee and enjoyed the beautiful haunting music of years gone by. Memories abound.

4 out of 5 stars 5 stars for performance, 4 stars due to omissions.......2006-08-29

Why doesn't this get a perfect five stars?

Simple reason.

The producers at Silva, for wahtever reason, decided to cut down their SHE suites and Hands of the Ripper suites.

On the previous Hammer releases, "Draculas - Classic Horror Films", released in 1993, recorded in 1989, they had seven additional minutes of "Hands of the Ripper" that could have been included on this set.

Additionally, The Devil Rides Out: Film Music of James Bernard, released in 1997, recorded in 1995 and 1996 had about a minute more of additional music from SHE, PLUS about seven minutes worth of suites from Quatermass and X: The Unknown.

Both discs in this new re-issue round out at around 68 minutes, so there was room for some of these omissions.

Silva Screen gets big kudos for a reissuing these recordeings in the remastered HDCD format, but I don't understand these omissions. In fact, one of the tracks included, "Vampire Hunter" isn't even from a Hammer film, and its the only recording on this collection not on previous Silva CD's.

Again, 5 stars for the performances, the 1989 performances with Neil Richardson and the Philharmonia are fantastic. (Dracula, Dracula: Prince of Darkness, Dracula Has Risen From The Grave, Taste the Blood of Dracula, Hands of the Ripper, Vampire Circus.)

Additionally, The Westminster Philharmonic under the baton of Kenneth Alwyn do an excellent job as usual (Kiss of the Vampire, Curse of the Mummy's Tomb, She, THe Abominable Snowman, Quatermass II and Curse of the Werewolf.) Finally, the City of Prague Philharmonic, who get a bad rap more often than they deserve round out hte album and IMHO, deliver the goods, under the trusty batons of Paul Bateman (Scars of Dracula, Frankenstein Created Woman, additionally, Bateman also plays the piano solo on Kiss of the Vampire.) and Nic Raine (The Devil Rides Out, One Million Years BC, When Dinosuars Ruled the Earth, Creatures The World Forgot, The Vampire Hunter)

I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could.

Much thanks to producers David Wishart, Eric Tomlinson and James Fitzpatrick and recording engineers Mike Ross-Trevor, John Luard Timperley and Jan Holzner for contributing to these fine historical film music recordings.

5 out of 5 stars "Hammer & Silva...raises the hair on the back of your neck".......2002-04-09

Silva Screen takes us on tour through the castles of Transylvania with a collection of
outstanding scores from James Bernard on Disc One ~ "DRACULA" (1958)..."KISS OF
THE VAMPIRE" (1964)..."DRACULA PRINCE OF DARKNESS"
(1966)..."FRANKENSTEIN CREATED WOMAN" (1967)..."THE DEVIL RIDES OUT"
(1968)..."DRACULA HAS RISEN FROM THE GRAVE" (1968)..."THE SCARS OF
DRACULA" (1970)..."TASTE THE BLOOD OF DRACULA" (1970)...even though the
blood doesn't flow as easily in "KISS OF THE VAMPIRE", the score from Bernard is
seductive, sensual to say the least for "creatures of the night", masked ball scene blends
atmospheric trance-masquerade themes, intoxicating main title is hauntingly mesmerizing with
"VAMPIRE RHAPSODY", just listen to the piano solo from our character in the film Carl
Ravna (Barry Warren), son of Dr. Ravna (Noel Willman) along with daughter Sabena Ravna
(Jacqueline Wallis), a cult of vampires in early 20th century Bavarian, praying on a young
honeymoon couple...Bernard's rhapsody captures the listeners heart and BLOOD!

Let's look at Disc Two with the other Hammer themes and their composers ~ "THE
ABOMINABLE SNOWMAN" (1957-Humphrey Searle)..."QUATERMASS II"
(1957-James Bernard)..."CURSE OF THE WEREWOLF" (1960-Benjamin
Frankel)..."CURSE OF THE MUMMY'S TOMB" (1964-Carlo Martelli)..."SHE"
(1965-James Bernard)..."ONE MILLION YEARS B.C." (1966-Mario
Nascimbene)..."WHEN DINOSAURS RULED THE EARTH" (1969-Mario
Nascimbene)..."HANDS OF THE RIPPER" (1971-Christopher Gunning)..."VAMPIRE
CIRCUS" (1971-David Whitaker)..."VAMPIRE HUNTER" (2000-James
Bernard)...difficult as it may be, there is a stand out ~ "THE CURSE OF THE
WEREWOLF", fine direction from Terence Fisher (director) with an outstanding cast Oliver
Reed (Leon-the Werewolf), Clifford Evans (Alfredo), Yvonne Romain (Servant Girl) and
Catherine Feller (Christina), Hammer's departure from the old stereotype of the beast is
refreshing, Reed's performance as the tormented sole, from man to wolf is touching, the score
by Ben Frankel is tense building at it's best, to say the least, setting the tone and mood for the
transformation with counterpoints is stimulating, inclusive orchestration development for what
lies ahead during a full moon.

Without a doubt the highlight pick hands down is "SHE", composer James Bernard gives of
himself without question, the SUITE takes the orchestra into lilting melodic exercises with
percussion chiming in, the harmonies are hypnotic blends of textured fabric, listen as The
Westminster Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Kenneth Alwyn display stirring strings and
a solo harp run the scales in "THE ETERNAL FLAME AND THE DESTRUCTION OF
SHE", hold-fast arrangement has haunting echoes of Bernard's constant theme, with a final
beat from a drum in the percussion section.

Must make mention the cast of players that made this possible ~ The Philharmonia Orchestra,
The City Of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, The Westminster Philharmonic Orchestra ~ and
their various conductors Kenneth Alwyn, Paul Bateman, Nic Raine and Neil
Richardson...supported by the illustrious staff from Silva Screen Records LTD ~ Reynold da
Silva (executive producer), David Stoner (associate producer), Gareth Williams (Dolby
Surround/HDCD Mastering) and of course James Fitzpatrick (compilation producer), who
has the knack of developing quality in every Silva Screen release...similar to "A History Of
Horror:From Nosferatu To The Sixth Sense" (SSD-1111/2CD Set), guaranteed to raise the
hair on the back of your neck!

Total Time: Disc One 68:01 on 14 Tracks & Disc Two 68:46 on 14 Tracks ~ Silva Screen
Records SSD-357 ~ (2002)
