A STATE OF TRANCE YEAR MIX 2006.......2007-06-27
NICE MIX FROM THE MAN ARMIN VAN BUUREN, WISH THAT IT COULD BE A LITTLE BIT LONGER.
Great Sample CD.......2007-05-23
This Mix was great. Contained a lot of great samples from some of the best tracks of 2006. Not really great if you are looking for the track on one of the CD's as you only have 40secs - 1 minute of any given track, but is great for trancing out while travelling. Also great to find any gems you may have missed over the year.
Plesant.......2007-04-05
I read the reviews and had mixed feeling about buying this CD, but I'm glad I did. I'm a big AVB fan and this mix will not disapoint you. This is a solid collection of trance and I'm happy to have it in my CD collection. It's a great audio journey and a wonderful back-drop to any party.
Exciting mix of the best of 2006.......2007-03-27
Wow is all I can say! I couldn't believe the large number of tracks on each CD at first! I was pleasantly surprised by how interesting it made the CD. I am enjoying it a lot.
Good.......2007-03-19
The CD 1 is not that good as I was expecting, it is too much techno. The second one sounds preaty ok, it is trance and more dance. Nevertheless the CD as overall is pretty ok. I recommend it.

Product Description
Finally theres an answer for Hip Hop fans yearning for an MC that could bring them back to the genres golden era in New York City and beyond. His name is Skyzoo. Get familiar. At an eager, observant age of just nine, Skyzoo penned his first song about the urban inner city life he witnessed from the window of his 18th floor apartment in Ebbets Field Projects. Fourteen years, five independent mixtapes, 100 songs and countless shows later, the 23-year-old Skyzoo has matured into a legitimate full-fledged artist. The loyal Brooklynite, who has already received accolades from Jay-Z, Nas, Buckshot, Sean Price and EPMD for his street-heavy, sharp narrating style and wit, understands a Hip Hop fans mentality and is prepared to customize music for their eyes and ears. Yes, music for their eyes and ears. "If they lend me their ears, they lend me their eyes," says an assuring Skyzoo, who prides himself in the art of storytelling with a street swagger. "I promise you when you hear my music...I promise you, you're going to not only hear something that you've never heard, but see something you've never seen. It's that real. My lyrical style and sound is what Hip Hop used to be. Some may remember Skyzoo for battling Jin on BETs 106 & Park, while others may have heard his tracks playing at Madison Square Garden during a Knicks game. In addition, although unsigned and actively grinding for a deal, one would never know it by peeping a live Skyzoo show. More than 800 people crowded into the Star Club, a New York City venue which is meant to host a max of 600, on December 22, 2005 just to see Skyzoo tear it down. The attendees included New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter, who witnessed the show and told Skyzoo hes the real deal. Respected artists and producers in the game have already taken notice at the sheer talent that Skyzoo brings to the table as well. The Brooklyn MC has already recorded with Little Brother, Khrysis, E-Ness from Bad Boy, EPMD, Sean Price, Needlz, Jay Dilla and Hi-Tek, just to name a few. Skyzoo is already off to a quick start in 2006. He has recorded The Way You Get Down, a club banger which industry heads are already dubbing the 06 In Da Club. In addition, Skyzoo has also completed a project with super producer 9th Wonder entitled "Cloud 9: The 3 Day High". The two completed the 12 song disc in 3 days; which is unheard of in modern day Hip Hop. The buzz surrounding this LP has skyrocketed through the net, and the response and anticipation is beyond belief. Along with that, Skyzoo is enjoying a massive following overseas and is reaching out to his fans with his own site and most recently via MySpace (www.myspace.com/skyzoo). With Skyzoo as the torch bearer, Hip Hops future is fluorescent bright.

Extremely Overrated (Rating: 5 out of 10- -2.5 stars).......2007-05-14
This album is nowhere near perfect, dope, or brilliant. Like Norfeest and crtx mentioned, Skyzoo sounds like Jay-Z both vocally and lyrically. Infact I was in my car and a friend of mine thought this was a Jay-Z mixtape of some kind that was just released. Thats how close to Jay he sounds (don't worry, this is a common NY trend nowadays). I understand that this was made within a 72 hour period, but there is a saying that "perfection shouldn't be rushed". This album is an example of that saying. The songs "I'm On It" and "Come Back" is an example of what I'm saying. "The Bodega" is your average 'I'm gotta get paid' track (another up north trend), thats been done and by much better people. And I just bust out laughing everytime when he spells his name out. And he contridicts the heck out of his style on the song "Mirror Mirror". Skyzoo should have spent more hours bringing a more of an origonal style to his skills instead of relying on what he is doing now, nor relying on 9th Wonder's production. Speaking of which, thats also another common trend: 9th Wonder producing an entire album, or a high number of tracks for their album. Hey, I love 9th just as much as the next person, but his production is no different than any other album he produced (Little Brother, Murs, Kaze, etc.). In fact, I myself getting tired of his repetative production. And if the beats on here aren't something you're used to, they're aren't that good. "I'm On It" isn't an appealing beat from 9th. And party/upbeat sounding "Live and Direct" is nothing astounding as well.
There are some good songs on here though. And when I say good, I mean good not great. "You And Me" is a good song about him getting a female and is backed by a good 9th beat. I would say that it's the best track on the album.
Overall, this album is average and overrated. People are probably loving this album because it's one of those "something different from the radio" albums, and the fact that 9th Wonder's name is one this album. Just because you have one of the most known producers of the moment on your album doesn't mean you're album is dope. Skyzoo's flow is average and nothing brillant whatsoever. There is a reason why people take their time when recording an album, and don't make it in 3 days. If Skyzoo would have put more time into his album, this album would have been much better. At the end of the album, he says "Imagine if we had 3 months...". Maybe he sould have taken that into consideration. Peace.

That Classic NYC Dope .......2007-03-15
Straight out the lyrical flow-lines of NYC. Solid beats and rhymes as you would expect from anyone claiming da Apple!
Beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2007-03-08
I Rarely Use the Word "Beautiful" with HipHop Albums Anymore but This 9th Wonder/Skyzoo Album is Absolutely Beautiful To Listen Too. 9th Wonder Steps It up With the Beats with Amazing Samples and Backround Bass that Will have any True HipHop Listener saying this guy is Sick. Skyzoo Comes Perfectly with a nice Smooth Flow and Deep voice (totally different from jay-z's high pitched voice). The Album Starts off with a Beautiful Hiphop tune "Bare Witness" with sick piano sounds in the backround and a nice chopped up Sample. The best TRack on the Album is "Way To Go". This TRack has an unbelievable Catchy Sample that will have u Singing along for days. 9th Wonder Came Off with Some of his Best work on this Album.
Any True School Hiphop Fan who didnt enjoy this album really shouldnt be Listening to Hiphop Cd's anymore because u probably just lost your taste for REAL HIPHOP and should take up listening to other Music Genres other than Hiphop Music. Anyone who Gaves this Album Less than 5 or 4 stars are either Writing Reviews for Attention or Really is just too Young or DumbedDown or Doesnt understand Real Hiphop Sounds anymore and those people should go Somewhereelse. CLOUD 9 is a near perfect album (I wish there was 2 or 3 more tracks) But any True School Hiphop fan will LOVE IT. 9th's BEST Work Here as Usual. REAL HIPHOP FOREVER!!!!.

OK, get this. These are recordings Dempster made in a giant cistern--an empty, two-million-gallon water tank--at Fort Worden, near Port Townsend in Washington state. The pieces take various instruments--conch, trombone, didgeridoo, Tibetan cymbals--and place them in this strange environment, where the music evolves around single notes that are allowed to rise or fall, fade or arise however. It's a fantastic exercise in pitch studies and abstract sonics, and, strangely, it works. Reminiscent of Terry Riley's recent work with the Rova Saxophone Quintet, this is for only the bravest listener. --Paul Cook
Customer Reviews:
Smooth and Satisfying.......2003-03-31
When I first heard a snippet of this artwork I couldn't believe it wasn't synthesized. The sounds are utterly beautiful and of an unearthly style as one tone melts into another. All sounds are heard riding atop each other in wave after wave of reverbal bliss.
My favorite part is the transition from track 3 to 4 where the gruff and dark sound of Dempster's solo Didjeridu performance, which conjures visions of shadows and dark caverns, segues into the uplifting and souring sounds of trombones that lift one up and out from underground into an azure sky.
Many won't know what to make of this kind of music, but those of us who yearn for something truly spiritual, it satisfies with unwavering contentment.
a little night music.......2002-10-20
This is a great album to just kick back and float to: calm, somber horns recorded in a 2,000,000 gallon water tank (empty and accoustically bizarre) in the Pacific Northwest. The sounds are very spare, a little Eno/Ambient, a little ominous, excellent to use as white noise but still completely interesting. A chill-out classic.
Lovely and sonorous.......2002-07-11
The key thing with this album: don't think of it as classical. It shares more in common with Brian Eno's ambient works, slow changes in sounds and tonalities over time, or perhaps non-rhythmic electronica with repetition, evolving patterns, background drones. Morning Light, Secret Currents, and Melodic Communion are similar tracks, starting slow, building in complexity, then dropping back; the trombone and other instruments show aspects of Super Jupiter and Moog analog synth sounds. Shell Shock and Conch Calling are more dissonant, with Cloud Landings back to washes of brass. Didjerilayover is the only track that doesn't work so well- it turns out a little muddy, with the didjeridoo inflections lost in reverb.
It took me a while to get into the CD, including it in random walks through a 5-CD set in the changer. But I started noticing that, whenever an Underground Overlays track would come up, I'd pause and just listen, then go back to what I was doing when it ended. A lovely, gratifying, wonderful album.
music from under the earth.......1999-07-01
this was first CD from new albion i bought and has endeared the label to me- this is brave music that puts you into a new place.
trombones, conch shells, didgeridu and what might be voices combine... the cistern is almost an instrument unto itself. you can't tell where notes end and reverb begins. dempster's compositions are complex, layered and filled with longing.
this may not be for everyone; some friends have complained of the sounds inducing nausea, disorientation and general feelings of unwellness. i personally find it uplifting and haunting.

Nine - Cloud 9.......2006-07-03
It has been almost ten year's since Nine released his second and final album "Cloud 9" (1996) a short twelve-track release that followed his debut album "Nine Livez" (1995). Repping the Bronx, Nine has a distinct raspy sounding voice. After the "Know Introduction", Nine gets things going with a rugged standout "Every Man 4 Himself", dropping raw rhyme after rhyme like -my mentality is somewhere between Armageddon and Apocalypse. "We Play 4 Keeps" is a thugged out cut dedicated to the trife life Nine knew all to well - making money by any means. "Tha Product" has Nine rhyming back and forth with female MC U-Neek. Nine rhymes about his pain and struggles over a classical instrumental on "Uncivilized". Nine advises people not to mess with him on "No Part A Me". Nine talks about the difference between living the rhymes and fronting on "Lyin King" a track directed at a Rap game full of fakes. Nine and 3rd Eye rhyme about being down and out and getting the loot on "Richman Poorman" (Act One). "John Doe" is another grimy cut about doing whatever it takes to pay the bills. This album's best track and one of my all time Nine favorites is the outstanding "Make Or Take" which has Nine teaming up with another slept on MC Smoothe Da Hustler for a classic collaboration, both MC's shine delivering on point lyrics backed by some exceptional production. Bounty Killer drops in for "Warriors" which is followed up by the album's closer "4 Chicken Wings and Rice" a cut where Nine recalls days past of starving and trying to make it. Aside from a few guest appearances Nine virtually disappeared after the release of "Cloud 9", finding information on him online is almost like looking for a needle in a haystack. I recommend checking out both of Nine's albums - quality music from a slept on MC.
great album!.......2006-04-30
his voice would have sounded incredibly wack if he wasn't such an amazing rapper, especially the songs the product and lyin' king stick out, but the entire album is just brilliant.
props to rob lewis for the beats
Nine - Cloud 9.......2006-01-09
This Cat sounds just like Xzibit would if he had a real bad cold, But it works for Him. His lyrics hit hard, with meaning, and the beats are very good. His flows are always right on beat. The most amazing thing about this album is the fact that it came out almost 10 years ago, and it hasnt aged at all. It is still one of the best albums i own, and thats saying alot because I am a huge collector of rap albums. I still listen to this album, it would be pointless to name the top tracks because ever song is good and has something to offer. I Highly reccomend It.
NINE.......2005-07-26
Very hard to find and is an underground classic among heads. NINEZ gruff style & wordplay is worth the listen. Check it out for ya self.
+++A Every Good Follow Up+++.......2005-06-17

To speak of Conlon Nancarrow's music for player piano shouldn't be mistaken to suggest some still broader range of musical output of which the composer's piano rolls are but a subset. Quite the contrary: Nancarrow's meticulous scores--generally unplayable, at least by most primates--are the body of his life's work. This five-CD set contains dozens upon dozens of his studies, each a fairly self-contained exploration of tempo, pitch, rhythm, counterpoint--and the interaction between pairings of those core musical categories. Certainly, this is "difficult" music, hard on the ears, off-kilter in a manner that both demands attention and may repulse listeners unfamiliar with experimental composition. After initial exposure, this collection is the sort of thing that sits on the shelf for some time, before your imagination breaks its internal code. Once that code is broken, though, the vast life inherent in this "mechanical" music becomes almost intoxicating. On some of the quieter pieces, the piano's tone is similar to that of a harpsichord. On others, the palimpsest of ragtime is undeniable. Yes, some pieces seem overly chaotic, but spend some time with them and you'll see, in your mind's eye, dozens of hands working the keys. --Marc Weidenbaum

symphony of a thousand (pianos).......2004-11-15
Imagine for a moment that you have entered a room full of slightly beat-up upright pianos. These pianos begin to come to life by sputtering out unusual, irregular melodies. The melodies don't fit together exactly, but somehow they seem right sounding together. Before you know it, there are so many pianos playing that you can't keep track of them all and they begin to accrue into an impossibly dense spray of sound. Even if you had a roomful of humans playing these pianos they wouldn't get the overwhelming, unswerving independence of each individual line in each piano. The pianos stop playing and you wonder what just happened....
Hopefully this description will give you some indication of what you're in for with these wonderful studies for player piano. Because Nancarrow was working with these mechanical instruments, he could combine complex ratios of rhythms against each other. Some are so subtle that no human could replicate them exactly. This is not to say that the music is dehumanized. It has a great deal of warmth and humor. What Nancarrow gains from the very mechanical nature of these instruments is part of the appeal.
These studies are as rugged and individual as the composer and, as mentioned earlier, Ligeti's Etudes would never have been possible without Nancarrow's wonderful music.
piano revelations........2004-02-22
This stuff influenced Ligeti's "Etudes" for solo piano. The music is mind-blowing.
Dizzying experiments by a brilliant maverick.......2004-01-09
A true compositional original, Conlon Nancarrow is best known for these mind-blowing pieces for player piano. Why this particular instrument? Because most of these short works are utterly unplayable by human beings, unless you are capable of say, depressing all 88 keys at the same time. While later in life Nancarrow also wrote a few small pieces for chamber ensembles, his work here is the core of his output and where his imagination truly took flight.
You may not be quite lucid after hearing something like Study No. 25, which has 1,028 notes in its final 12 seconds, or one of my favorites, the so-called "Canon X" (No. 21). It begins with two musical lines at opposite ends of the keyboard: the bass starts slowly and gradually accelerates, the treble begins in a super-fast blur of notes at the highest end and gradually descends, becoming ever-slower. In the middle of the piece, these two lines cross each other before they continue on their separate ways.
In study after study, Nancarrow explores complex relationships between meter and pitch, most of the time with absolutely astounding results. Some of these pieces are a bit more relaxed, with blues and jazz elements giving them an almost homespun quality. But soon the blizzard of notes returns, as the composer makes full use of the player piano's capabilities. You almost can't believe what you are hearing.
A word of caution: You probably don't want to program all five discs straight through. Well recorded as it is, the timbre of the instrument becomes wearing on the ear after awhile. Give your ears a break and to listen to something completely different, like Debussy, Copland -- or maybe Bob Dylan.
An essential collection for some -- I'm not sure whom! -- but something every listener should hear at least once.
Intriguing Ideas, Experiment upon Experiment.......2000-12-30
Conlon Nancarrow is one of those composers who could exist only in real life, as he would be too implausible for fiction. Nancarrow was a composer for player piano, who spent much of his life an expatriate in Mexico, composing music steeped in both early 20th C. jazz and "modernist" classical traditions, and yet music that is entirely individual.
For me, Nancarrow's work functions best when he illustrates the sheer possibility of the keyboard freed from the limitations of a human player or players. The player piano in Nancarrow's work is an acrobat, ready to twirl on wires from which human piano players are unable to dangle. I find least satisfying the experimental works which are centered less on the possibility of the player piano, and more on the synthesis of 30s jazz into a unique classical aesthetic. I freely confess to being a listener rather than a musician in my own right, and some of the experiments just don't keep me hooked.
Still, if you're longing for something quite different and of high quality, Nancarrow may be what you are seeking.

STOP! STOP!! STOP!!!.......2006-09-12
This is the tracklisting for Armin's "State of Trance 2005" not the State of Trance Yearmix! So either the photo needs to be changed to the proper one, or the tracklist needs to list the well over 60 tracks that appear on the YEARMIX. Either way, no one knows what they are paying for.
A massive undertaking of a year's worth of trance........2006-05-26
Armin must have had either a field day, carving up all these great tunes from the past year, or a nightmare having to get through them all. Tough to say how his time went mixing it, but what he produced is a great 2 disc set, with a year's worth of trance on it. Apparently, these 82 tracks were selected by the listeners of his State of Trance weekly radio show. Apparently, the fans missed out on a lot of great tracks, which I will get to in a moment.
I think everyone who enjoys this music should have this disc, as it's a fun ride that you can just let play anywhere, anytime, and you're bound to hear tons of great snippets of tracks you loved from the past year. If there's something you didn't care for too much, don't worry, as it will be over in probably 45 seconds! The tracks range from about 40 seconds to no more than 3 minutes (and even that long is a rarity). Tracks often play through 1 or two others, but it never sounds messy, and he seems to use all the juicy spots of the tracks, which makes both discs have a very uplifting energy to them. Lots of melodies and lots of vocals, so there's something for everyone.
Now for the two reasons I don't give this 5 stars: first, each disc is only 1 hour long. 20 minutes more worth of tracks could have been added to each disc, which at the track length times of the tracks, could have come out to 10-15 more tracks per disc. If you are going to go all out like this, why not fill both discs? Especially since we get to my next gripe: there were some HUGE tracks from 2005 inexplicably missing from this mix. Here they are, going from bottom to the top of the list of "why the heck weren't they on here"?!?!?!
10. Solace - Lustral (just about every mix of this track was hot)
9. Sansibar - Nic Chagall presents Encee
8. Gran Rey - Markus & Brian
7. Celestial - Brisky
6. I Found You - Interstate (The Harry Lemon remix, and the incredible Harry Lemon Trance Nation exclusive mix both came out in 2005, even though the original track was out in 2004).
5. The Unknown - Whitewater feat. Melinda Gareh (one of the top female vocal tracks of the year)
4. Flash - Johan Gielen
3. Asarja - Ronski Speed and Mirco De Govia
2. Call it a Day - E- Craig (the most explosive track of the year; how on Earth did this one slip through??)
1. Made of Sun - Kyau vs. Albert (if all the above 9 were missing, but this one was there, I still would have given it 5 stars, but forgetting this one nearly loses 2 stars alone -- WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED HERE????)
What I think may have happened is that fans forgot about early 2005, as a lot of the above list is early 2005 releases. Oh well, what we have is still an awesome trance experience. He should do this every year; I'll buy it!!
AN OUTSTANDING SAMPLER OF THE ENTIRE 2005 YEAR!.......2006-02-21
Armin finishes off 2005 with a bang. This 2 disk compilation contains a mind-boggling 82 tracks. I normally turn my nose at mix disks of minute-and-a-half minute songs, but the man knows what he's doing. Not only does he hand pick arguably the best songs released this year, it is mixed with surgical yet passionate precision! Disk 1 is mainly progressive trance, which is where trance seems to be headed these days (not that I like it, mind you). "Air For Life" in my opinion is the best track on that disk.
On disk 2, Armin really shines as he provides you with high energy, adrenaline pumping tracks. His assult on the senses is second to none here. My fave on this disk is Goldenscan's "Only with you". I was sad to see that Epos's "Vivagio", my favorite track of the year didn't make it on this cd.
For the casual listener not too familiar with ASOT or curious about what this 2 cd collection has to offer I will say this. This is one of those disks that MUST be heard from start to finish. If you random these disks, you lose the essence of what Armin did here and that is weaving a fine fabric that is THE YEAR MIX OF 2005!!!
BEST COMPLIATION FOR 2005.......2006-02-12
Seems I am the first one to rate this mainly because its pretty new. This is Armin's year end mix. Basically its a compliation of 2005 greatest hits. It says it contains a whopping 82 tracks but unfortunately I belive the tracks are very short.
Tracks like...Dogzilla, false light, dark side of the moon, Zocalo, air for life etc. I mean seriously it dosent get better than this.
Personally I dont own the cd but I have heard the tracks on " A state of trance" and this would probably be the BEST TRANCE COMPLIATION OF 2005, Too bad the songs are short.

not what i expected.......2004-10-23
This seems to be a bit of a departure for Johnson. It's not that we dont like it, it's just not the swamp-stomp rock we would have expected, instead it is more ethereal. I would have given it five stars but it is overproduced quite a bit in some areas and I really dont understand many of the lyrics, the singing was much better on Grih Grih except Graham Bonnet is great and Chad Johnson (relation?) is excellent. Love the title track and really I bought the Cd for the guitar playing and I have not been disappointed at all. Danny is one of the greatest I have ever heard.
nice guitarist and album.......2004-09-13
Danny Johnson is a utility guitarist who has played lead for groups such as Alcatrzz ( Yngwie,Steve Vai). In fact, Graham Bonnett (Alcatrzz vocalist) appears on 1 track here, as does Rick Derringer (House of the Rising Sun). This is a similar CD to his previous "Grih-Grih Thing" which is nice bluesy rock tunes with good, tasty guitar work throughout. If you like players like Joe Bonamassa, Leslie West, or Rick Derringer, you will probably enjoy this CD. It will not change the world, but it is certainly a most pleasant listen!
