Fame Review.......2004-07-15
I saw the second to last performance they did for this, and I'm telling you, it was AMAZING! So I rented the CD from the library, and it was just like the show! Dude, it was awesome! If I loved it, you will, too! Yay!
WOW!.......2004-06-18
I have always loved the movie...but the new show on 42nd street is something else! I highly recommend the show to everyone, but if not the show...GET THE CD! It captures the energy, emotion, and pure fun you feel sitting in the theatre. EVerything about it is amazing! You will dance around for hours to it! BUY A COPY TODAY!!!
This is a GREAT soundtrack.......2004-05-04
This is an AMAZING show. From the instant it started it had me involved just from the opening music numbers. While watching it seemed to me like a cross between Rent (for mostly content) and Footloose (for the music and especially the dancing). The CD is Phenominal. The cast really does put a HUGE effort into their singing and the characters truely show thorough everything they do. Everyone should listen to this soundtrack. It keeps me happy and my toes tapping all day long!
WONDERFUL.......2004-04-17
I have seen this show, and I love it. Nothing is as good as seeing Fame live, but the CD is still amazing. The actors are wonderful, and the songs are beautiful. I escpecially love Sara Schmidt in "Let's Play a Love Scene." Everyone should go see Fame and then buy the CD!
Great Vocal Cast.......2004-04-15
FAME on 42nd street, despite some issues with the direction, is a nice rendition of the show. This CD is definitely the best one to date (of the stage productions). Most of the cast have great voices. The number on the CD best sung, delivered, and consistant is Q Smith's INCREDIBLE rendition of "Mabel's Prayer" sung with ease, power, and great vocal strength. If anything purchase this CD for THAT stunning performance.

Album Description
Straight from Fort Worth, TX comes an artist whose life is truly portrayed by his music. Having signed a deal with TVT Records last year, Tommy Burns, a.k.a. Twisted Black, had solidified his "STREET FAME" by formally releasing two independent albums, "Late Bloomer" and "The Life of Tommy Burns," garnering credibility of artists such as Scarface and Bun B. Twisted Black explains, "People want to say they know me, but then don't know what I've been through."
His new album "STREET FAME" is ready to hit the streets featuring songs that will let you into the world of Twisted Black. The single "Throw It Up" features Memphis' own Yo Gotti and Lil Jon protege Chyna Whyte.
Customer Reviews:
Trap-rap at its finest; don't get it Twisted.......2007-04-25
I only first heard about Twisted Black in an article of XXL. I read about his recent narcotics bust, and that before he was charged with distribution of cocaine, he had signed a deal with TVT; I didn't know about his history in hip-hop, so naturally, I thought he was another recently discovered emcee who'd caught a bad case right before he got his big break. I was intrigued to find out that Twisted Black's TVT debut did manage to creep out this year in the form of Street Fame; I was also shocked that this wasn't his debut album over all. Come to find out, Black's been in the game for more than a minute, and had only recently started getting the attention he deserves. This could very well be Twisted Black's last album; however, if it is, then he'll certainly go off on a high note.
The album starts off with a bang, as Throw It Up is a fine Southern trap-track featuring Yo Gotti and Chyna White. While Yo Gotti is a talented young emcee, and Chyna is decent, this first track displays just how talented Twisted Black is; and it's far from the best cut found on the album. The following track is a club-banger known as Shake, and while the title may sound reminiscient of a prominent Ying Yang Twinz track featuring Cuban sensation Pitbull, the Shake found on this album is far more gritty, and hardcore than his TVT labelmates'.
The next few tracks are more of the same, which isn't a bad thing; however, once track seven kicks in, this album gets off to its TRUE start. Broke Streets is the beginning of a string of introspective tracks that fill up the second half of this album, and serve as the main highlights. Following this soulful track is another street track, Bout That, followed by the powerful Coldest Summer Ever. Twisted Black was clearly one of the emcees who, much like Jay-Hova, was 'raised by the winter,' because even in the scorching summer heat, it'll take more than a mere temperature rise to boil this hustler's cold-blooded heart.
That's not to say that Twisted Black is insensitive though, as the concept track following this, New Boot, clearly shows. I'd rather not spoil the tale, but it's best to know that this heart-wrenching story will have you reminded of Scarface in his prime; something that Twisted Black comes off as at most times on this album. Hustler's Prayer is a track that shows no matter how connected Black is to the street, he'd still give anything to escape it. Sadly, the streets that he reps are the reason he's doing a bid right now.
After Hustler's Prayer is the straight-banging I'm A Fool Wit It, a track that is sure to be the highlight of many people's experience with this album. Produced by DJ Toomp, I'm A Fool Wit It is a hot track that'll get everyone in the club on the dance floor, even if they don't know who Black is. Carrying a T.I.-esque swagger over the track, Black rips Toomp's beat with some great wordplay, proving that even though this is his most commercial track on the album, he still isn't gonna dumb down his style.
The closing tracks are more of the same mixture of street and reflective tracks, closing this album off on a great note. I'm thankful that I've heard of Black, because this is definitely one of the best hip-hop releases I've heard thus far this year. Twisted Black is trap-rap at its finest, and the only thing that keeps this album from receiving a five is a few missteps behind the boards, as some of the beats aren't up to the task of carrying Black's heavy lyrics. However, this album is definitely worth buying as soon as possible; Twisted Black is an ill emcee that deserves a lot more support than he's getting now, and you'll agree once you hear Street Fame.
