Product Description
You Don't Know The Half is a funky little introduction to how nice Halftooth Records is. Mostly recorded at Halftooth's Ishlab studio, the album is anchored by the talented Oddisee and Kenn Starr, best known for their work with Jazzy Jeff's A Touch of Jazz camp. Other performances on the album to watch for include J-Live, Talib Kweli, Asheru of Unspoken Heard and Wordsworth.

Halftooth Records was founded in 2001 by David Schrager and Zach Gordon. Halftooth Records is David and Zach's way of sharing their love of Hip-Hop with others. Through Halftooth Records, David and Zach will present listeners with quality Hip-Hop music made solely out of a love for the art, not motivated by the materialism and egotism that have driven popular Hip-Hop music for far too long. Halftooth Records takes pride in creating an artist-friendly community where artists, label executives and staff form a strong and supportive family. According to co-President Zach Gordon, "You Don't Know the Half is our way of introducing the Halftooth family to the Hip-Hop community in a deeper than usual context. As opposed to showcasing individual artists, we believe it is more important to create a musically cohesive project that can capture the enormous collaborative potential of everyone involved. The result proves to be an album that stands as not only the expressive efforts of individuals, but as a single musical expression from like-minded individuals."

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great Record from Halftooth.......2005-09-04

Halftooth Records compilation album Halftooth Records Presents You Don't Know The Half is one of the best REAL hip hop albums of the 2004. There is no reason why this shouldn't be a gold or platinum album. The primary artists included in the compilation include Oddisee, Wordsworth and Ken Starr. Other artists featured on the disc include J-Live, Phonte and Big Pooh of Little Brother, Smash Mechanics, Dash, and a few other artists. The song "If," featured an appearance from Talib Kweli.

It's easy to write off the Halftooth artists as "conscious" rappers and put them in a box just because every song isn't about bling-bling or big booties, but this is a CD that you really need to open your mind and give a chance. The name "Halftooth," might sound a little different, but if you are searching for a good hip-hop album Halftooth Records Presents You Don't Know The Half will not disappoint you.

The beats are awesome. The Halftooth artists are all well-known in hip-hop circles on the East Coast. Wordsworth is probably the best-known member of the Halftooth Camp. Known for his lyrical style, Wordsworth was wrote, co-created and starred in the short-lived MTV hip-hop sketch comedy The Lyricist Lounge Show. Halftooth member Odisee produced and performed on the track "Musik Lounge" for DJ Jazzy Jeff's "Magnificent" LP. Rounding out the main performers on the disc is Ken Starr. Ken is a Suffolk, Virginia native who currently resides in Fort Washington, Maryland. His rhyming style is really fly and his solo cut "What's Up," is one of the stand out singles on the disc.

Okay, so you may not have seen a commercial for Halftooth Records on BET and you may not have seen the video on TV, but skip all that media hype. Well respected hip-hop site had nothing but love for Halftooth Records. Don't sleep on this album! Check out Halftooth Records Presents You Don't Know The Half today!

4 out of 5 stars Halftooth brings a Full Clip!!.......2004-03-30

I picked this CD up in Towers Music after listening to a few cuts. Oddissee produced some fire tracks! Most of the emcess bring solids flows. Little Brother ripped it up as usual. Of course you have Ken Starr, J-Live, Asheru, Talib Kweli and many others that spit fire as well. I would have appreciated a little more diversity on subject matter but overall, these cats bring a solid effort.
