Customer Reviews:
This is a great album!!!.......2007-06-21
This album is a great one. Twelve Tribes are in a genre of their own. I don't think anyone should sleep on them. If the album does not impress them see them live. Right after I bought the album I was privileged to see them alive and they do not disappoint. I was in a room full of people who knew nothing about this band. They were ready to see Shai Hulud and Dead to Fall. When twelve tribes hit the stage they owned no question about it. End of story , I call it as I see it. Anyway if you really want to get into their music from the beginning listen to "as flowers to feathers and petals to wings","instruments" and "The Rebirth Tragedy". Twelve Tribes is one of many bands from Ohio that you should check out. The midwest will soon be taking over.
Definitely a good cd!!.......2007-03-09
If you are a twelve tribes True fan you wont be dissapointed in this cd. Its defintely, well I think heavier than their last album and alot has been added to the cd! Anyone can write and a review and judge a band on their playing ability but lets see these people play these songs? I mean the band has no direction? they are directed by the singer of "killswitch Engage" A very reputable band... Not to mention twelve tribes isnt the most well known band of 2007 competeing with bands like chimaira, otep, sevendsut, korn, and alot of other more popular metal bands new cds coming out. This is an underground band more so than being put on well known soundtracks and such. Its definitely a good cd to check out.. I have listend to so many metal bands and twelve tribes defintely don't get the attention that they deserve
Derivative hardcore from Ohio.......2007-02-25
Although Twelve Tribes call themselves a hardcore band, their sound vastly differs from those typical hardcore music we know. To their credit, this band certainly has more potential and diversity than most others. However, they seem to make little use of this potential, opting for the done-to-death, bland style of the genre, which includes lots of gutteral screams and growls mixed where a single guitar theme is placed underneath the vocals whilst the bass does nothing but follow that pattern till the end of the song.
That's a shame, however, considering the band's strength definitely lies in crafting diverse songs that are replete with heavy breakdowns and great rhythmic combinations. Out of all five members, it is only Shane Shook who's trying to break the mould, as he inserts some great raw yet rhythmically powerful fills throughout the whole album. Also, the guitarist is capable of so much more than is presented here. Rather than doing the same guitar run over and over again, he is at his creative best on the more laidback pieces, such as the primarily acoustic based "Monarch of Dreams", which recalls the finest moments of Isis and later day Cult of Luna. The acoustic walk of the melody is broken by dynamic drum and bass beats before everything calms down and is finalised on an eerie note. Likewise, the opening bass chords of "The Nine Year Tide" are sadly wasted when the band decide to turn it into yet another overdone hardcore number rather than developing it into a full-blown sludge cut. The guitar work of Kevin Schindel hints at his being a much better musician, so it's a real shame this band haven't made more use of his abilities. Although "Monarch of Dreams" is arguably the only piece that I like from start to finish (it's just 2 minutes though), there are good elements on other pieces, including the sombre guitar theme on the aforementioned "The Nine Year Tide", the rumbling bass of "History Versus the Pavement", and the clean-toned instrumentation on "Librium". The album's closing song is nearly nine minutes, divided into three sections, but some of the arrangements seem sorely lacking. They would have worked a lot better if they'd been linked with recurring melodic themes or been written with a stronger compositional vision.
I am unfamiliar with this band's previous work(s), so I have nothing to compare Midwest Pandemic with. That said, on its own, it feels like an album with undeniable potential wasted due to lack of direction. The resut is that the average hardcore fan may find them too diverse whilst fans of bands such as Void, Cult of Luna, and even Time of Orchids will find them too bland and uninspired.
Great Album.......2006-12-04
If you liked their previous material you'll love this
Pick it up!!
This release crushes their last effort!.......2006-10-26
I read somewhere before this album was released that this album was OK. OH PLEASE! This CD crushes 'Rebirth of Tragedy' in every way! Not only is the intensity on overdrive, but the melody is still there for that perfect blend of what a hardcore album should be! In a genre that's WAY TO OVERCROWDED, it isn't always easy to spot a hardcore band that delivers the goods & on this release Twelve Tribes continues to prove that they deserve to stand on top. I HIGHLY recommend this CD for any extreme hardcore fan.

Having attended the CD Release Party for Pandemic at the Wreck Room in NY on Saturday night I can honestly say that this is whats next. "Three Hundred Thousand Volts of Electricity", the opening soundbite of the CD and the show is an understatement. The heavy baseline of Sheehan, the Crunch and Drive of Deitz, and the pounding of Torres, sets you up for a vocal range and acuity of Kopp which is unmatched. The production quality of the CD is equally impressive, great job N.S. Buck Brundage, and the full range of mix and mastering by Phill Magnotti make this a truly professional release worth the price. Personal favorites are "Well of Souls" and the opening track "Out of Time"
but the whole CD is so varried in style but complete in the individual "Pandemic" sound everyone will find something to enjoy. (Except maybe boy-band fans, but they can covert)

Customer Reviews:
Funk "Preserver", Floats Well!!.......2001-12-31
"DFunk and the Phatfunk Klique, do a pretty good job of bringing
back a "70's" "Funk" vibe! However, in "DFUNK" being the primary focus of this CD, I wanted to hear more "VIOLIN"! I wanted to hear "Mr. DFunk" stretch himself further. Even though we all have been graced with great violinists such as
'Jean-Luc Ponty', Noel Pointer and Stephan Grappelli, we still don't hear much violin. "DFunk" has the potential to break new ground on his instrument by comming to the forefront of popular music, and yes, even Hip-Hop!
The album seems to have a smooth sound that features, un-
selfishly, the talents of the "Phatfunk Klique". The bass player lays down distinctive lines without overpowering the melodies. And the vocalists' 'airy' and 'smooth' tones enhance
this albums 'aura'! My only 'crtique' is that something was
missing or left out. That 'something' I hope will appear on
"DFunk's" next "CD"!
Phat Vox, Keyboards, and violin........2001-11-02
Review: Darrell "DFunk" Looney's 7 selection collection of his original compositions highlight the feel of excitement in PANDEMIC LOVE! It is an adventure in funk sound, and Looney does it well. His violin performances are excellent.
Selections include "Pandemic Love," "Take A Chance," "Jazzy Jam," and "A Little Bit More," among others. Each is different and lively! If you like funk, you will enjoy this collection! The artists perform well and each song is different. PANDEMIC LOVE is a winner in the funk jazz genre!
Unpolished talent, great potential.......2001-08-11
DFunk and the Phatfunk Clique is a Jazz group with a lot of potential, but as for their CD titled "Pandemic Love," it contains a lot of repetitive tracks that underwhelms the listener. An example of this is the track "Take A Chance," a ten minute piece that consists of a few beats that's looped over and over, which is evident in Amazon.com's RealAudio sample.
I believe this group has a lot of potential, but it needs is someone who is experienced in writing and composing music. Someone like Branford Marselis or Regina Carter might just be the thing that DFunk and his clique need to ascend to the next level.
