5 out of 5 stars The pillage.......2007-07-13

Since his introduction into the rap game on Raekwon's debut solo album, Cappadonna has been an honorary member of the Wu-Tang Clan, shining on almost every Clan collaboration thereafter. With the Wu in such high demand, it was only a matter of time before fans started anticipating Cappadonna's solo joint. The pillage presents Cappadonna as a lyrical mastermind in his own right. His style is very similar to both Raekwon and Ghostface, and with RZA handling the production, the album stands up favorably alongside other wu albums. Throughout the album the Don, formerly known as Cappachino, delivers witty, hip-hop tunes that convey a strong message.

The production is tight all the way through, and the general album a strong coherent feel, it sounds and plays just like a good Wu album should. On first listen the album doesn t jump out at the listener as anything special, but like the best Wu albums, give this joint a couple more rotations, and everything starts sounding like it s a gift from the music gods. Sure Cappa isn t perfect, his a good rapper, but sometimes he can seem lazy, or his nasaly voice can be off putting. This is only on a couple of tracks though, on the whole Cappa gives as good as his potential had shown.

This is a strong debut album form Cappadonna. Unfortunately for him though, this album is going to be compared more with Wu mid 90 s solo classics like Liquid Swords and Cuban Linx, rather than the majority of hip hop that came out around the same time (i.e. No Limit and Bad Boy!!).

This album stands well above the influx of No Limit and Bad Boy records that hit the market at the same time. And on that comparison, one would wonder why this album never quite gets much praise. But this album simply gets shadowed by Raekwons, Ghostfaces, Meths and Gza albums. To be fair this album isn t quite up to that standard, but its a classic none of the less.

OKay rza did his job as far as the beats on diz album ? Classic but the lirycs ? Awfull... I got diz only enjoy the beats but cappa is horrible @ rhyming. Skip & copy gza's liquid swords or ghost's ironmman...

4 out of 5 stars Cappadonna - The Pillage.......2006-04-10

Cappadonna IS on point on this album in all aspects. Its just I dont really think its classic 5 star material. But I give it about a 4.5 EASILY. Cappadonna's flow and rhymes are on point every line and verse on each track he speaks on. Good appearences also by the Wu-Tang Clan! The production, is pretty grimey in most spots, only a COUPLE tracks where I thought the beats were decent and not THAT great. But I was feeling all of them despite that. If you've heard Cappadonna's sh** from Wu-Tang joints and liked it, this album is definately for you. All of Cappa's good sh** in THIS album. Check it out.

3 out of 5 stars The Name Can't Carry the Album.......2005-10-19

Cappadonna blew me away when I first heard his extended verse on Winter Warz. Expectations were high. The way he rode the beat was amazing and his lyrics were well placed. Obviously, I was awaiting his release.

The Pillage has all the makings of a Wu album. Production from RZA and the Wu-Elements, guest spots from Wu-members, etc... Yet Cappadonna's style has changed significantly. The flow is not there on this album. This is a different Cappadonna than I heard on Winter Warz, no question.

He had all the help he could ask for as concerns production. There are plenty of Wu-bangers on this album, but Donna simply did not deliver with the lyrics. At times, it actually sounds like he's freestyling and running out of lines to use (listen to Blood On Blood War and you will hear what I am talking about). Being a producer myself, I can appreciate most of the beats on this album. Put Inspectah Deck on these beats and you've got classics. It seems Cappa's album actually received more attention than Deck's, which I will never understand.

The beats can only take the album so far. This will not go down as a Wu-classic though.

    5 out of 5 stars Tight Beats!!.......2003-07-16

You won't find commercial beats on this disc. Rob the Viking brings the best in underground sounds and these beats are a must for anyone who craves true hip-hop. The production is tight and the beats bang when played loud. All beats are around 4 minutes long and while a bit short for freestyle sessions there is not one beat that will disappoint. You will feel the need to freestyle over all 15 tracks.

5 out of 5 stars Truly the sickest producer out right now.......2003-05-12

These are the sickest beats out. I am a fan of battle axe and his production is probably the main reason why. They do have some good emcees but he probably is the most consistent with his workbecause he comes through every track and has the ability to make the worst emcee shine just because of his production. If you are into underground hip hop, this is the tightest thing you can buy. Its a must for all the Djs.

5 out of 5 stars i've been pillaged and conquered.......2003-05-08

This CD is great. I can't say that I've been feeling the rest of the Battleaxe Record's releases, but Rob the Viking has my attention. The beats are straight hip-hop, and that's all it is, no lyrics. Yet, these are some great beats. Those who are not into hip-hop, may feel the beats become monotonous, since there is little change in composition from the beginning to end of each song. But if you didn't expect that, why would you buy a cd of "beats" in the first place. I love it though, great beats to chill out with, can't wait to get 'em on vinyl.

I know nothing of their background, I found this CD in a giveaway bin from a radio station. This CD is simply amazing. There are maybe 3 tracks on this CD that do not deserve 5-stars. You will be singing every single one of these songs, unbelievably catchy. Such a shame this bad never developed into something more. I cannot really describe who Bad Apple sounds like, you must hear it yourself. You will NOT be dissapointed with this one.

5 out of 5 stars Hip hop classic.......2004-04-16

Now, you may ask how can not so known album be classic? Well, what is hip hop all about: selling, fame or attitude? Besides Gang starr Cappadonna is almost only one doing real underground; makes you wanna think about point behind fake smiles and makes you believe in yourself. And why is this album so important? cause it came like rain over desert after years of weak and fake rap; when big ones sold their souls Cappadonna came with Pillage like livin' proof that underground lives and it's better than MTV trash. Preludes got a strong metafore, and lyrics are original even when they sound funny sometimes.'Black boy' will make you jump up off your chair (don't play it in your car). Pillage's gotta a story: some struggles are same in all lands and times and if you wanna be a man you can't hide anywhere - face your life. Donna's voice will make you take all this personal, like when friend is trying to explain something. Beats are fly; ready for high class clubs or for prison performance.
