Customer Reviews:
Loving this CD!.......2004-05-16
I was recommended this because I'm a Bruce fan...but Soozie Tyrell stands on her own merit. She has a very appealing, smoky sounding voice and her songs are country-tinged; the violin adds a lot in my opinion. Springsteen and wife Patti Scialfa add some haunting backup vocals to the gorgeous Ste. Genevieve, my favorite song on the album. I highly recommend this. She sounds like a seasoned pro and I'm very impressed.
Not bad at all.......2004-01-02
Good sounding CD. Some of the songs are really quite excellent - Ste. Genevieve, Dark Clouds, and Wild Ones are all great and my favorites, the title track I also like. But she can't hold my attention for an entire album - she doesn't have much of a range and some of the songs start to sound the same after awhile. Still, there's some good production work, pretty backup vocals from Springsteen and Scialfa, nice violin and guitar. You can really hear some Springsteen influence in a lot of the songs, only natural I suppose after the tour. All in all, I'd recommend checking this CD out. It's a solid debut from a long-time talent.
Worth The Wait.......2003-07-12
After many years as a backup to some big names, Soozie Tyrell came out with her first solo album in April 2003. I heard her perform live on radio station WFUV in New York right around that time, and went to see her perform the next day at TheTurning Point in Piermont,NY in what I believe was her first show since the album came out. She was just terrific and I bought the CD from her after the show. She plays violin, several guitars, piano and is the lead singer. She admitted it was a little unnerving being out in front for the first time, but she was great.
Soozie wrote all the songs on the CD and they are very good, with a slight country flavor. Her lyrics tell many stories about her life and are cleverly but unpretentiously written. Her band is extemely fine, with her keyboardist, Brian Mitchell, as a real standout...particularly in the live shows. Ste. Genevieve is my favorite song, one that is both beautiful and moving, but other favorites include Have A Little Patience, Ferdouganal, Who Rules Your Life (which has a great, almost Sting-like guitar introduction), Ain't Goin'Back, and Little Girl. And the title track, White Lines, interestingly compares her life as a young child traveling with family and her current life traveling with her band. I have enjoyed the CD immensely and might add that anyone who has the chance to see Soozie perform live should do so..she is very sweet, and is a fine performer with an outstanding band. I look forward to her next CD.
Excellent CD, Not just a backup musician.......2003-04-19
I purchased this CD out of curiosity, being a Bruce fan and seeing him twice on the Rising tour, I liked the vilin sound that Tyrell added. Expecting an instrumental collection, I was pleasantly surprised to hear that Tyrell has an excellent voice and is a strong songwriter. The songs are well-crafted and are reminiscent of John Mellencamp (circa: Pink Houses and Cherry Bomb era), acoustic Neil Young, and even Bruce. Especially exquisite is Ste. Genevieve. Soozie Tyrell's first cd sounds like the work of a seasoned pro. If you are a fan of finely crafted music with excellent musicianship, you won't be disappointed.
More than a backup player.......2003-04-18
I picked this cd up on a hunch, being a Bruce fan and liking the new violin sound Tyrell brought to The Rising Tour (I saw him twice). Half-way expecting folksy - rootsy instrumentals, I was happily surprised to find that along with being a talented instrumentalist, she's got a great voice and is an excellent songwriter. Her style is reminiscent of John Mellencamp during his Pink Houses and Cherry Bomb phase, accoustic Neil Young, and yes, even the Boss. Especially exquisite is Ste. Genevieve. For a first effort, Soozie Tyrell sounds like a seasoned pro. This CD will be worth your while.

Shows you how good they were in concert.......2003-03-23
Since the Levellers have never really headlined in the States, the average Yank does not have a very clear idea of what a good live band the Levellers are. Sure there are bootleg concerts out there, but they are harder to find than an import album.
Pressed in 1996, this album gives a one-hour serving of songs collected from various European stops on their 1995-96 tour to support the album Zeitgeist. The sound of the music washing over all of those bodies makes you wonder why only the Europeans know about these dudes. The crowd singing along with Sell Out, One Way and The Road are very touching indeed, while Liberty and The Riverflow can absolutely rock your teeth out.
I've always been fond of Zeitgeist. Here there are three songs representing the album.: Hope Street, Exodus, and Men-An-Tol.
The Levellers sound just as good live as they do on CD. Maybe even better. I got hooked on this CD when I was a college freshman, and it really felt like an album in its own right. If you think the Levellers are good, this will make you think they're great.

Customer Reviews:
Good vibes, great album........2002-10-10
I have been a fan of the band for going on 5 years now, but up until recently the only studio album I had was the Honey Bee, which by the way is also excellent. I always wanted the first album Pronounced Zoo-No, but would not get it from Amazon without free shipping. Then came the perfect excuse, a new Zunno Band album thus putting me over the $25 threshold for free shipping. Yippy!
I have already had a chance to listen to both the first and last album since receiving them and I got to say; "You have come a long way, PZB". The first album is a treat and contains many gems from the PZB playlist but the latest album Black and White and Blues All over is nothing short of a classic.
Paul Z just continues to mature and get even better on guitar which quite frankly I didn't know it was possible. The man is an obvious disciple of the blues greats reminding me of a mix between Robert Cray and Stevie Ray yet at the same time having his own style.
As always, my compliments to the big man Zerrick Foster and his awesome bass lines. Nothing is more distinctive than picturing you banging away at your bass, brother. But you don't need me to pat you on the back to know how good you are.
"I know you're here with me" is one of the best new songs I have heard in a long time. If the song doesn't become a big hit, I will be forced to eat my young. The soul and musical style of this song is very powerful and I guarantee it will be a favorite song you will play again and again if you buy this album.
Everything on this album is really terrific and limiting this album to a highest rating of 5 stars is a joke. I use a 10 star scale myself and would have personally given a 12 star rating which is to say this album is simply off the charts.
If you love good old fashion R&B, this is an album you have to have for your collection. Its upbeat, electrifying but more importantly its 10 great songs for our musical enjoyment performed by troubadours that couldn't be more down to Earth and equally talented.
Best of Luck PZB with this album, its a winner!
