This is one of the best discs of Spanish piano music in the catalogs. Turina's piano music belongs to the great tradition of Albeniz and Granados. His pieces, based on Spanish folk styles, are gathered into collections that have variety and shape. The music is wonderful, and so are the performances by Argentine pianist Mirian Conti, whose occasional recordings reveal her as a major talent. She plays all of this music with thrilling virtuosity and color. Not even Alicia de Larrocha's deleted Turina recordings were superior to these. This disc comes very highly recommended, look for sequels, too. --Leslie Gerber
