And....another one!.......2006-05-30
PUTS have done it again in the '03, puts have shown the hiphop world that music with soul & consciousness is still here, still striving. I don't know what it is with People under the stairs but everything they bring out is nothing short of brilliant. They know what they know, they know what underground heads appreciate and they keep on bringin' it & diggin' in them crates for more and more samples. Or Stay Tuned is no exception, and not only that, it is probably the best display of Thes One & Double K's lyrical ability, pushing aside all the doubters of their music that has been such a problem for them in the past. Now, don't get me wrong, personally I think their lyrics are always perfect, because what most people can't understand is lyrics are about substance & if the substance is thought-provoking, conscious & relatable then who's to say it isn't brilliant? Thes one & double K are not the men to look for if you're a fan of hiphop signifcantly rife with metaphors/similes and original flows that can be seen as undoubtedly outstanding (check out Souls of mischief for this type of excellence & wit).
Now,This Mini album (EP) contains 11 tracks (10 tracks and 1 skit/short song) all of which contribute to the album's consistency. "Yield" kicks off the album, playing as a straight "head-nodder" which is sure to go down well at gigs. The bass is just the nod-factor. Then the "mid-city fiesta" esque Plunken 'em with the laid-back jazzy vibe, serving as true feel-good music, runs in at track 2 laying the foundation for the ultra-mellow "Roadbeaters" where thes & K talk about what it's like about travelling on the road (performing live city-to city) and how a lot of people under-estimate just how hard it is. And as fans know, PUTS are probably the hardest working group going, when it comes to serving fans and promoting themselves abroad. The "fly love song" , "drumbox" "OST Remix" and "Yo" help keep the album afloat, before the "LA Song remix" hits your ears. This is probably the best track on the album, with the captivating atmospheric sounding sample & vibe, that is sure to inspire anybody listening. Similarly, SF Knights remix (short track) and Take the fruit (humourous, wacky track) prepare our ears for the soon-to be eargasm that approaches in the form of "outrun". Soo refreshing, the sample on here is just straight class. This is a much slower track, that acts as the perfect outro to a perfect EP with double k scratching for about a minute, before it all comes to an end. Now, give this a listen if you are a fan of the P, or a fan of thought provoking, soulful & conscious hiphop as this is just that, and more. People under the stairs proving that their back! DO NOT SLEEP. PEACE!
Also check out The next step, question in the form of an answer, OST and Stepfather (2006) as every single album is phenomenal.

chill as it gets verbal scrathin lizard slits.......2005-11-12
theres nothing groundbreaking about this release, but if you want to just mellow out and listen to some chill hip-hop, this is a perfect record to listen to. I think PUTS makes up for their average rhymes with their laid back attitude and delivery. Its not really the substance, but the style that makes this record memorable.
B boys will b Boys.......2005-11-03
This ep or LP, whatever is really hittin. I just purchased it used about 2 weeks ago, and it has not left my deck since. Its that good. The only song I really don't care about is, "Drumbox". IT'S NOT WACK, ITS JUST TOOO OLD SKOOL FO ME. That's all. "L.A. Song" is probably the most personal song on the disk. Double K really brings down the house. Also what I like about P.U.T.S. is that they make their own beats, and they didn't have 1 feature on the album. In my opinion, that is the defintition of a classic. Since their rap style is b-boy, they have fun on the mic. They can drop science when they want, and the "Take the Fruit" track is tight, FO REAL!!!! The album is soulful, and funked out wit a b-boy twist. Put P.U.T.S. on the same likes of:
1) Little Brother
2) Jurassic 5
3) De La Soul
All in all 10 out of 11, ain't bad, and if this is your type of music,
GO AND COP THIS ISH!!!!!!!!!!
Red Ant has spoken!!!!!
Peace!!!!!!!!!!!
P.S. The album is on Om Records
PUTS, the Best of Real Underground Hip-hop.......2005-05-28
I've discovered these men one year ago, because they are in the Om records label (house, breaks label). All I can say is that People Under The Stairs are without a doubt the BEST underground hip-hop I've ever heard. I got a collection of 100 Underground and conscious hip-hop CDs, and PUTS are my favorite. They got all I want from Underground music. The lyrics are conscious, we are far from gangsta crap. Here, U have intelligent hip-hop. The Beats are so catchy, so mellow. U like underground hip-hop universe and atmosphere? U have understood how is the real soul of hip-hop? So buy it. All the tracks in this album are very good, without exception. The flow and the voice of the 2 MCs are incredible. The PUTS sound reminds me tha cool atmosphere of skateboarding universe, the sound smells like the street. No no no, don't think about gang affairs, guns, drugs and other here; I talk about the real spirit of street, in tha time when MCs didn't have a ridiculous ego..
People Under The Stairs make one of the best hip-hop sound ever produced. U CAN'T BE disappointed, otherwise U don't like underground hip-hop..
Consistently better than O.S.T........2004-11-08
PUTS have been steering real underground hip-hop in the right direction over the years. Though their nostalgia may mislead a listener to think of them as stuck in the '90s, they are anything but. Imaginative, original, and on-point, PUTS have put out a solid release that's a lot better than its bigger brother, O.S.T. With incredible beats and lively rhymes, they've done it again and again. Get this.

In Response to the "Critics".......1999-01-12
"The Critic's" evaluation is way off the mark. This album is filled with more than a few of the greatest guitarists alive. "Dull" is hardly the word to describe this album. It is true that the songs have a very laid-back sound, almost 'easy listening'style about them. Usually not my style but Mr. Guitar is Mr. Guitar. Chet and his buddys pull it off just fine.

Customer Reviews:
Disappointing.......2002-11-10
Hailing from my hometown of Fresno, CA, Let's Go Bowling was one of the first ska bands I was exposed to in the early nineties, and have remained a sentimental favorite of mine. I bought this album expecting an evolution of the same band that produced "Music to Bowl By" and "Mr. Twist," but was shocked and sadly disappointed to discover their sound had drifted VERY far away from their roots. Maybe I was expecting too much, but if you are looking for good Third Wave ska with a First Wave mentality, steer clear of this album.
What Happened?.......2001-04-05
This CD was weak... The only two good songs were the instrumental songs. They only shadow the sound that they used to have. I'm a ska fan and I wouldn't consider this a ska record... Its too difficult to explain.
I bought this CD thinking, "Hey, its LGB - one of the best in the genre!" Well, I was very disappointed....END
Masters of Randomness.......2000-08-02
These guys are just great. Their lyrics are sarcastic, amusing, and clever. Their music is different -- every track is a new sound. Some bands have only one sound, but LGB has tons of tricks up their sleeves. Sampling from all sorts of sources, combined with talented synthesizer, horns, drums, and electric guitar makes for a sound that makes you just want to turn your radio up.
A Different Aproach.......2000-08-01
LGB's new album will find it listerens asking themselves: "What the hell happened?" LGB as taken a new aproach to their music. For the most part they have left there old, ska core sound and gone in a new direction. The have lost all there horn players but one (trumpet only) and have resorted to using electronic gimmicks throught there songs. Many of the song have no horn lines at all. (a major dissapointment) The album as a whole is harder than anything before. Heavy bass and guitars fill all of their songs. Lgb has also lost the instremental feeling with only 2 insrtumental songs on the CD. But to put aside the negatitives, there are some good songs on the track,(Saving Sorries, Electric Bread, and The Middle) Although there new sound is different to get used to, it is a must for any LGB fan. These once kings of ska are still the best, even though they have decided to go in a new direction. Over all an ok CD with some good songs. If you are new to LGB I recomend getting Mr. Twist, their best relase to date.

Who exactly is this album for?.......2002-09-22
Of the ten tracks on the "Stay Tuned" album, eight are rap cuts - four of which aren't in the movie! This leaves two tracks of Bruce Broughton's score, but as rap aficionados aren't going to buy this for the instrumental tracks (which total less than four minutes) and soundtrack fans won't like ploughing through the rap stuff for the score, nobody will be truly satisfied. Especially since I only bought this for the Broughton cuts (the best thing about the movie!).

I caught TBNT performing in Houston, Texas while shooting a video and I was amazed. I caught the band after the show and asked if they had a Cd and to my surprise they said that they were on Amazon! I bought the Cd and there isn't a dud on the entire album. I hope they don't make it big so I can keep catching these guys cheap!

Saw these guys in El Paso. They put on a great show and the songs are the type that make you shake your booty!

Product Description
First there was Hendrix. Nirvana followed decades later. Now, in the new millennium, Seattle has spawned its latest rock sensation. OK ... at least they're from Seattle. With the tumultuous force of Mt. Rainier, Stay Tuned has erupted onto this town's storied music scene, igniting venues throughout the Pacific Northwest with virtuoso keytar riffs, nostalgic lyricism and wicked cool hair. When the band appeared on The BJ Shea Experience on KQBZ in Seattle, Ian "Prime Time" Sterling declared, "If you get enough (Jaegermeister) shots down ya ... this would be the best band you've ever heard." Far from your average tribute band, Stay Tuned is one of music's most unique acts, taking television theme songs and "recontextualizing" them into scorching rock 'n' roll anthems. Where some see nothing in television but a vast wasteland, Stay Tuned finds vast inspiration. The self-proclaimed "Ultimate Television Rock Experience" has taken 12 audience favorite songs to create "This is Only a Test." "This is Only a Test" features TV themes familiar to millions including "Happy Days," "Rawhide" and "The Jeffersons" in completely new and original arrangements. Produced by Stay Tuned and Brin Addison (whose previous producing credits include artists Chris Cornell, the Smashing Pumpkins, Smashmouth, and The Indigo Girls), the album brings all the excitement and energy of the band's live stage shows home in a masterfully crafted CD. Comprised of Matt Krahlman (keyboards, lead vocals), Randy Williams (bass) and Fred Donaldson (drums), Stay Tuned formed 3 years ago with the goal of bringing something unique to the local music scene. Inspired in part by Seattle's own Presidents of the United States of America, the band puts on a rockingly entertaining live show where everyone in the audience knows the lyrics and gets into the act. Who can take a nothing day, and suddenly make it all seem worthwhile? Well it's Stay Tuned, and you should know it (apologies to fans of the Mary Tyler Moore show).
Customer Reviews:
This CD rocks me like only a hurri-can.......2005-10-14
I've listened to the best from over the years.. The Beatles. Jimi Hendrix. Led Zepplin. David Hasselhoff. But this CD is overflowing - brimming if you will - with epic rock versions of TV Show Themes and is destined to be hailed as one of the most important CD's of the 21st Century. Okay.. I might be overstating things a bit here. But the CD is awesome.
Being a huge fan of sitcoms of the 80's growing up and becoming familiar with the classics on Nick at Nite, this album feeds an unexplainable thirst inside my twisted skull to relive those moments I spent sitting dumbfounded and dumb in front of the "boob tube". TV Theme Songs are sort of a lost art nowadays. Today's TV Shows, with few exceptions, simply don't have the same artistry that the songs of the 60's - 80's had. And I'm glad to see a band, filled with three strapping, talented young men I might add, taking those memorable tunes and bringing them to a whole new generation. Moreover, they really make the material their own.
"Silver Spoons" and "Charles in Charge" really get me going, "Happy Days" cools me down and "The Jeffersons" and "F-Troop" make me want to punch through the top of my car when I'm driving around with "This Is Only A Test" cranked. Being a keyboardist myself, I really dig the vintage keyboard sounds and wicked keytar riffs of Matt Krahlman. If I didn't know better, I would've thought it was a guitar. But it isn't. And rarely do I know anything better or, really, anything at all. Stay Tuned has a mean vintage sound - similar to Deep Purple really - combined with a modern alternative rock edge. Hard to describe but really great, rockin' tuneage.
The CD really captures the live energy of Stay Tuned that I've seen in their shows and I'm really glad I could support them. If you're a fan of television, television themes, keytars or, really, just something different, buy this CD.
