Perhaps this would have been better named Murda Muzak. With their fourth album, the third since their seminal The Infamous, Mobb Deep recycle themselves to the point of self-parody. How much slower and darker can your grooves get? How many rhymes about cash, crime, and hoes can you write? How many albums can Raekwon and Nas cameo on? There are moments that will shake you out of the soporific slumber: "Adrenaline" with its pounding drum track, and the slick, sliding bass line on "The Realest," featuring a cameo from Kool G Rap. However, during Mobb Deep's hiatus between Hell On Earth and Murda Muzik, artists like DMX, the Ruff Ryders, and Ja Rule filled the vacuum left by the Mobb's crime stories. To keep up, Havoc and Prodigy are going to have to get Deep(er) than the thugged-out "Quiet Storm" they present here. --Oliver Wang

P holds the pen tightly........2007-06-04
This was one of like 10 cd's i had back in junior high. I probly got a hundred, maybe a hundred and fifty listens on this album and still throw it on. The beats would sound raw and innovative if they came out now and it came out in 99. Prodigy is a hella good story teller, sounding both tough and intelligent on every track. His vocals are layered and well delivered. You'll catch a new nuance to his rhyme pattern or pick up on a reference or metaphor you never noticed each time you hear it, and "Adrenaline" is probably the hypest song on the album and it does its thing quietly; make you damn near break your neck on that bassline.
Mobb hits hard with Murda Muzik.......2007-02-04
The MOBB kills em with this LP. "Quiet Storm" and "Streets raised me" are just some of the hard hitters laced on the cd. INFAMOUS MOBB DEEP can't be touched. If you're an Infamous Mobb Deep fan, you know you must have this cd.
Classic M O B B.......2006-11-16
After making three solid albums, Mobb Deep return with another bangin album Murda Musik. Hav and P's rhymes were fire, Havoc's production sounds as fresh as its ever been and every guest appearance was on fire. Standout Tracks: STREETS RAISED ME, WHATS YA POISON(everybody was on point even Cormega), SPREAD LOVE, IM GOING OUT(Lil Cease busts the best verse of his rap career on this one!), ALLUSTRIOUS, ADRENALINE, WHERE IM FROM(unexpected but great matchup with 8ball), QUIET STORM, WHERE YA HEART AT, THE REALEST(Kool G Rap shut it down disrespectfully!), U.S.A., ITS MINE(the best collabo out of all the collabos they did with Nas) and QUIET STORM(Lil Kim's verse on this song is still classic). Filler: Let a ho be a ho(Saturday Night Live boring) and Thug Musik. Bottom Line: Any Mobb Deep fan will not be dissapointed with this 4th album. Prodigy and Havoc put together their best album next to Hell On Earth. With songs like Whats ya poison, Spread love, Adrenaline, Where ya heart at, Where ya from and crazy matchups with 8ball, Lil Cease, Lil Kim, Cormega and Kool G Rap this album is bound to be one of those albums you will still reach for after years to come.

Overall it's a solid Mobb Deep product - they give you what you expect. The remakes of some tracks from their previous albums carry this mix tape. It looks like Havoc/Prodigy targetted their loyal fans for this one.

East Coast gangsta rap has not yet reached its peak of brutal imagery and sheer violence, however Uncle Murda is pushing it to its limits. Described as "50 Cent on steroids," Uncle Murda is going to give the FCC and Tipper Gore a run for their money with his debut mix CD. Held down by the evil genius Green Lantern, the album features vocal from Akon and Maino. Murda was raised in "homicide central" East New York and has the cold shoulder, trigger finger, and big mouth to prove it. Good debut from RZA protege.......2007-07-04
This CD has a good vibe. I've listened to it everyday since I got it. Definitely geared toward a younger crowd, but still entertaining to older Wu fans. RZA has 3 good beats on here. Free Murda brings the dope on all tracks. I have several favorites. Pick it up and support the Fam. You're be pleased.
What the hell?.......2007-06-22
I'll be honest by saying I was interested in this cd just because RZA's name was on it...but this cd is straight garbage!!! Free's rhymes are weak and his flow is even worse. Some beats are OK which is why I gave it even 2 stars. But for any Wu fans like me, stay away from this pile of crap!! What ever happened to the Wu syndicate?

A Mixtape I Tried To Like, The Bonus Disc Is Worth It Though... (3.5 stars).......2006-06-12
I was a young Mobb Deep Fan, and after their album Infamy, I just couldn't wait for Mobb Deep to drop somemore heat to listen to. So I copped this Mixtape, and it kinda went both ways, half dissapointing and half good. There is some nice production on this album, but it is weighed down by medicore lyrics that I really didn't expect, mostly by Prodigy. Havoc comes correct behind the mic on this mixtape, and I believed that he has shown some improvement on this, leaving Prodigy behind (This should have been your warning sign, if you were dissapointed with their recent "Blood Money"). Most of the content is about violence and weapons, kind of normal for Mobb Deep. Two track that I know that Havoc has stepped his game over Prodigy is the remake of "Survival Of The Fittest" and the remake of "Paid In Full". Prodigy rhymes come hard but in a very lazy way, that some fans may think that he didn't put enough energy into the rhymes that he wrote. The song "What Can I Do?" just doesn't plain fit as a female sample of the title of the song just plays throughout the song as Hav and P ask questions on how to handle certain situations. The song "Watch That N***a" also just doesn't fit that much and doesn't appeal to a normal Mobb Deep fan. Finally Prodigy comes clean on the song "It's Over" as it reminds me of something that was on his H.N.I.C. album. Havoc kicks a solo showing off his come up in the world in the song "The Illest". "Came Up" comes off as a dance type beat, that has a weak hook, making another track I don't like. The last track "Don't Call Tasha" is another street joint about weapons and violence with a movie sample in the interlude. The Bonus Whoo Kid Freestyles are mostly good as Mobb Deep freestyle over their old beats that mostly came from The Infamous and Hell On Earth. Havoc comes off real hard on all of them that hes on. Prodigy does an decent job on most of them too. His verse on the "Shook Ones Freestyle" left me scratching my head a little bit. This is the first (known) time that I've heard them freestyle, but it's kind of ironic that their best rhymes come off the top of their heads.
The explicit version of this Mixtape comes with a bonus disc of Mobb Deep colaborations and hidden 12" singles that were rare to find. "Get Back (Remix)" is the Mobb Deep track that I've been waiting to hear as Prodigy, Hav, and Big Noyd rips it up. Alchemest produced "Midnight Creep" and "4th Of July" gives us a sample of what The Alchemest can cook up production wise ans lyrically on the "Fourth Of July" song. "Bang Bang" comes off real nice as Big Noyd handles the song by himself. The remix of "Bump That" is also nice that Havoc, Big Noyd, and 50 Cent (back when he was woth listening to) come off real hard on this. Mobb Deep gives their friends The Infamous Mbbb a chance to shine on the next four tracks. The track "Mobb N****z" is a straight grimy QB type track. Twin Gambino of The Infamous Mobb shows he can handle a song by himself on the track "B.I.G T.W.I.N.S.". Cormega and Prodigy teams up for a colaboration "Thun and Kiko" (People the word is Thun not Dun, get it correct) Tragedy Khadafi (who was well known on the first CNN album) drop in for the song "Whats Poppin'" which comes off nice. The last track is Kool G. Rap's "Thug Chronicles" carries a nice beat as Havoc does the hook as it comes off as one of a gangsta type of track.
Overall The Mixtape isn't all that good if you're a Mobb Deep fan. You will be dissapointed if youre expecting something from the 90's on this mixtape. Some people who are reading this review and see the raiting are thinking that I shouldn't be so hard on this because its a mixtape. Mobb Deep can produce a hot mix tape. If you want a hot Mobb Deep mixtape check out The Purfek Storm Before 9/11 Mixtape, that is so much better than this one. As for the bonus disc, that should make up for some of the dissapointment that the mixtape that has left behind. I recommend this to real hardcore fans of Mobb Deep and just want to hear more them.

Solid Album nothing Garbage bringing you back some East Coast Feel Purchase this if you are a true Mobb Deep fan like me dont if you are one of them people who started liking them when they've joined G-Unit!
A Review of Mobb Deep's "Murda Mixtape".......2003-11-11
Following their departure from Loud Records, the Infamous Mobb Deep are looking for a new label to call home. Instead of taking their resume to all the majors, they've decided to drop a collection of new joints and freestyles over classic beats and let the labels doing the bidding. Don't be fooled into thinking that this is a brand new LP from the group, it is a mixtape.
The Mobb put a darker spin on the Eric B & Rakim classic, "Paid In Full", as Prodigy and Havoc spit some mean verses to an all-new Havoc beat as they do a partial remake of said record. They're also remaking some of their own classic records as they spit venom over the "Shook Ones Part II." instrumental where P expresses his affection for everyone from Stacy Dash to Eve. Much of the record is not quite on par with the quality of their studio album efforts.
In addition to being a reasonably-priced album, this CD also comes packed with a second bonus disc featuring solo joints of Havoc & Prodigy, rare remixes, and tracks featuring other members of their respective clique. This bonus disc has its moments but much like the first CD, it doesn't quite have the consistency most fans have come to expect with Mobb Deep albums.
If you are a hardcore Mobb Deep fan, this one will easily be worth the money but those unfamiliar with their work may want to start somewhere else. You are getting two CD's for the price of one but do keep in mind that when shopping for music, sometimes you should stress "quality over quantity". There are at least a handful of tracks that will make it worthwhile but those expecting two solid discs of great music make be very dissapointed with the end result.
NOTE: This review is for the explicit version of the album.
FOUR STARS!!!!>>>YOU CRAZY>>>MAYBE ONE!!.......2003-10-11
As I was reading some of these reviews...I was thinking somebody from Mobb Deep is writing these reviews to gain more sales. This mixtape albulm is not the sh@t...its a piece of sh@t. Mobb Deep WAS the shi@t..but when they keep on putting stuff like this out, they keep on proving to people who KNOW...that they went down hill. Prodigy lost it...he ain't hungry like he used to be. Havoc has improved his lyrical skills since infamous. But that can only help alittle. They got some good songs on this...Bump That is good...double shots ain't bad...but the hook is wack. Mobb Deep is like Wu - Tang...when they first came out they were nice...there still around and they got some good tracks here and there...but they old, lazy, and ain't up to date.
murda mix tape.......2003-08-09
this album is totally wakkk mobb deep is the worst rap group in america! the evidence check out the song fourth of july with alchemist he has no buisness even looking at a microphone let alone rapping behind one! in other words alchemist voice sounds awful spoiling the whole song
but thats not all prodigy has lost what little lyrical prowess he once had on their old albums he sounds old and tired on this album the rehashing of old beats with new lyrics makes songs sound old and stale with nothing fresh on the menu avoid this album at any cost!!!

Dopest rhyme of the Year.......2001-11-26
Woah, Prodigy and Havoc have done it again with their latest effort Murda Muzik. This record is flawless and earned Prodigy "Dopest rhyme of the Year" in Source Magazine. What makes Mobb Deep so significant is not only their lyrics but the callabos with top notch MC's like Raekwon, Kool G Rap, Eightball, Nas and etc...Another thing about Mobb Deep is alongside Capone-N-Noreaga, they were the only east coast artists that weren't afraid to respond to Pac's "Hit'em Up". Peep "Drop a Gem on 'em" from Hell on Earth and "LA,LA" from CNN's War Report. In conclusion, this is a dope record and I believe the source should have gave them 5 mics instead of 4 1/2.
Another Mobb Classic.......1999-08-17
The Album is now one of my favorite albums, all the songs are deep, and meaningful, Prodigy and Havoc are on top once again. Great lyrics and the beats aren't too far off. Definetly a one to add to rap's classics.
The greastest piece theMOBB has ever done........1999-08-12
I've listen to all the other MOBB joints, but this one is a classic. From the joint with Kool G.Rap,to "Thug Musik"...it just dosen't stop. Not to many artists intrigue me because I'm an artist myself("Johora EXPO" of the chi),but I thank you for giving "Murda Muzik"the blessing it deserved!

Never a dissapointing moment..........1999-08-12
A classic is found far and few in the world of hip-hop where everyone trys to cop the next ni99a'z style. Its easy to say that Mobb Deep has kept it real and continues to serve us what we all want without havin to change thier sound. they have come along way from "Juvenile Hell" to bring us the flvor we all crave. Peace
