Jim Jones has insisted that he's "not a rapper," and who are we to disagree? Though his last album was better than many expected, the business manager for the Diplomats shows the limitations of his abilities on this sophomore release. Compared to Cam'ron's slick appeal or even Juelz Santana's unflappable confidence, Jones sounds more like a Dipset placeholder than a lyrical star in his own right. He simply lacks the kind of presence to hold down a sixteen song album, especially with a gruff and rather garbled flow that often feels muddled in the mix. This said, for fans of the Dipset sound--shiny soul and thuggy anthems--Harlem Diary should satisfy a few cravings, whether on Jones' hometown lullaby, "Harlem," or "G's Up," with its classic '60s sound, or dramatic and aggressive "What Is This." Santana pops up on a few cameos, as does Hell Rell, alongside Diddy and Houston's Paul Wall though Killa Kam is strangely M.I.A. on his label captain's album. --Oliver Wang

This is a good CD.......2007-01-29
I really like Jim Jones. I agree he is not a rapper, but why should each artist have to follow a set formula? That would get boring. I like the way, the music sounds, and I like his voice. He kind of sings/talks/mumbles, but it sounds good. Either you will like him or not, just listen and decide. My favorites are Ride with Me, and Confront Ya Babe.
Harlem: Diary Of A Summer.......2006-11-08
Is Jim Jones a Lyricist? NO. Do the raps make sense? Umm...sometimes. Is he just using rap as a way to make money? Most likely. The dude is a hustler, love him or hate him he's most likely a fan first and just does this for some extra cash. You shouldn't take this too seriously. It is what it is. A mediocore rapper w/some dope beats. The production on the LP does sound good especially when you're drivin w/your boys. Its an aquired taste and definetly one of my guilty pleasures. Give it a listen and see what you think. Peace!
Terrible.......2006-07-03
This guy cannot rap, and that is very obvious to me. I dont get why most people think he is the savior of the east coast. This is one of the worst cds that i have heard in years. Gets 0/5 from me (how i wish they had that option).
One of the Worst CDs of all time.......2006-07-03
I just got this today, and I was hoping to hear a good album for a change. But unfortunately, I was wrong. From start to finish, this CD was boring, repetitive, and it made me wish that I were deaf the whole time (at least temporarily). I wanted to warn you not to get this one before you waste almost 20 dollars like me.
Whatever you say.......2006-07-03
Someone below me called this guy the king of New York? What are you thinking? There has not been a rapper from NYC this bad...forever. I really don't like him, and I think that his music is overrated.

Dips In The Building!.......2006-07-07
This album left me speechless. Jim Jones as usual his lyrics were amazing. His guest appearances were hot cuz of course the dips are on top of the game.... I didnt think he would be able to top his first solo joint "on my way to church". but this takes the cake. if u dont like this. then you're not a true diplomat. like they say, this is more than music. u should definately buy this. dont even think about bootleggin. Buy It! actually buy a couple. thats how good it is.
