Blunt Raps [Explicit Lyrics]

About the Artist
They started out as two regular kids, unknowingly caught in the grasp of pop culture. As time set in, Tenacity and S.A. came to a realization. The plastic, made-for-TV image and the horrible monotony of pop music are nothing less than an Orwellian brainwashing effort aimed at flooding minds with images of conformity. They subsequently broke free from the chains of trend. Hungry and determined to bring about change, they searched for others like them. Their search was successful and the Abolitionists was founded. Its crosshairs were immediately locked upon modern pop culture; that vast, faceless entity, now more encompassing than ever, which tries to keep creativity and original ideas locked in shackles.

After teaming up with Iggy Ignotius (whose electro-fied take on hip-hop production helps sets the duo apart from their contemporaries), the three spent months of hermit-like preparation and intensive training. Tenacity and S.A have now unleashed their skills, and set out to free the minds of those who are still capable of seeing. Using a delivery packed with witty punch lines, humorous double meanings and creative rhythmic patterns, they rip through all of the wack emcees who cloud the scene with hip-hop clichés and mainstream propaganda. BLUNT RAPS is here to clear the path of the weak-minded and those blinded by an image. It is the first chapter to the changing of hip-hop as you know it.

BLUNT RAPS = Battle Lyrics Used Now To Replenish Art, Previously Suffering.

Product Description
"Blunt Raps" is the debut album from Tenacity & S.A of Ann Arbor MI's the Abolitionists. Mixing traditional hiphop battle rhymes and showmanship with IDM-leaning beats (think Prefuse 73, Antipop Consortium), the group steers clear of cliche-infested 2004 rap. No talk about guns, bling or money here - Tenacity & S.A are more concerned with the abolition of wack rappers, as shown by tracks like "Word Then" and "You Ain't Sh*t To Me." Tracks like "Blunt Raps" and "That's Abolition" are head-nodding and DJ-friendly without sounding formulated. Guest spots are kept at a minimum, with outstanding performances from Kadence of the Abolitionists and Shi Dog of the Almighty Dreadnaughts. The backbone of the album is production by Iggy Ignotius on all of the album's 14 tracks. Overall, Tenacity & S.A's "Blunt Raps" provides a new and refreshing take on rap and hiphop production.

5 out of 5 stars Blunt raps review.......2005-03-08

This album is different, from the innovative beats to the battle lyrics. It's one of the most refreshing albums out right now. It brings rap back to it's natural state. I'm really happy to see so much talent coming from my home town of Ann Arbor. Thanks to the Abolitionists for putting Ace Duece on the map.

Thankfully, (...) Abolitionist crew standouts Tenacity and SA know how to hold down an album, and keep hip hop progressive.
From the first eight bars, this album attempts to chart a new course for Michigan's underground sound. The surprisingly ill Micro-Korg effects and bugged-out electronic beats being rapped over by Tenacity and SA come off like a cross of Rhymesayers and Prefuse 73.
One by one, the tracks gleefully unfurl as the group's heinous plot to wipe hip pop off the map are revealed: from the surging "Word Then" and "You Ain't Sh*t to Me" to the scathing "Oooh," these cats are literally trying to shame wack emcees into permanently putting down the mic. In fact, one of the album's few glitches is that it's almost all battle raps spewed over tight beats, which grows tired.
With appearances from the rest of the Abolitionists and the Almighty Dreadnaughtz fam, Blunt Raps works as yet another testament to the new blunted sound continuing to emerge from Ann Arbor's underground releases. And don't let the blunt wrap package dissuade you; its contents are dope enough to entice even the saintliest of non-indulgers. (...)
