1 out of 5 stars A DISASTER.......2007-03-13

In all honesty UNk is a disaster to the Hip Hop culture. I cannot understand how anyone in their right mind can label this as hip-hop/rap! The lyrics are totally senseless and the beats suck. Making a song about a dance that has been out for a long time (and yes everyone was dancing like that back in their junior high days) is not called music. I would never buy this album, more less download the "songs". The only good southern rapper is Luda, and T.I isn't that bad. So far UNK has done nothing to amaze me and I'm pretty sure that he never will... HE JUST SUCKS!!!!

[This gets no stars from me]

1 out of 5 stars "Beat'n Down Yo Trashcan" is more like it.......2007-02-22

I'm from the south. Georgia to be exact. The place of marvelous talents such as TLC, T.I., Usher, Ludacris, and Outkast . But also the place of D4L, Dem Franchize Boyz, Young Jeezy, Yung Joc, and now, UNK. This CD Beat'n Down Yo Block is a total piece of garbage, and I'm gon break it done to you, as simple as I can...

The lyrics.... childish.... simple-minded.... and wack!!!

The beats.... bland.... boring.... and worthless!!!

Overall.... WORTHLESS

To get technical... Beat'n Down Yo Block is a CD with not a lot going on for it. The beats all sound the same using the same synth and 808s as well as patterns in some ocassions. (Note to UNK: Next time (if there even is a next time), try not to let the same guy produce every beat.) The lyrics are babyish, bland and wack, like they were written by a 5 yr old in 10 mins. The songs point-blank are stupid, and pathetic. Usually talking mainly about the a dance move. Let me break down some of the songs...

track #3 - Walk It Out... Last summer in Atlanta, this was the anthem. You couldn't change to a hip hop radio station in the A and not hear it. It was the party starter for cookouts, pool parties, or just to bob yo head to. I'll admit it, I could remember enjoying it; then it went commercial, and lost its touch. Now, it makes me want to bang my hand across the tv when I see the video. Now, hating it, I finally analyzed the song. It is the most annoying song on the album. The FruityLoop beat totally complements the idiotic rhymes the scrilly-voice of Unk spits. I don't see how I made throughout the summer w/o losing my mind. Must have been the 99 degree UV rays from the sun effecting my brain... Go figure!!!

track #5 - 2 step.... This is the second single from the album UNK says... I really, REALLY, hope not. This song is the exact copy of Walk It Out. The beat is SOOO annoying. The Staticy Synth's and (Bell synth that remind me of W.I.O!!!!), definitely will give you a headache. His lyric are once again lacking, especially when he repeats the same 2 phrases 50 times, "Now Gon And Two Step" "Now Get Jiggy With It". The song is very much like Walk it Out, except set to another lame beat by DJ Montay.

track #10 - thinkin of you... This song would've been alright if Jazze Pha would've shut the hell up, and just produced. God, I never would've thought I could think less of Jazze, being one of the best producer Atlanta has to offer, until I heard this. Just cause yo daddy was a singer doesn't mean you are, Jazze. This could've been the jugular song of this CD, and it went down the drain... The beat is actually not that bad, even though Jazze didn't produce it, the ochestra synths, and funk guitar synth makes this beat the best this CD had to offer.

track # 13 - this is how we do... That song made this CD automatically lose a star. This song has no reason of being on this LP. If you gon' call your CD hood music, you can't have a peppy song that sounds like a nursery rhyme, and an 8yr old gets more time on it than you do talking about big wheels, and coloring books. LOL. The song was produced by Big Korey, and 8 yr old. Kudos. But definitely stay in school, WORST SONG ON THE WHOLE ALBUM... PERIOD!!!!

Overall, this CD is WACK. It will only amuse you for only a short amount of time. So if you want a CD with mediocore FL Studio beats, wack lyrics, and just stupid then your in the right place... If your look for a CD with longevity, and Good, you should definitely look the other way.

I AIN'T HATING, JUST TELLING THE TRUTH

3 out of 5 stars not a kid just want to be anonymous.......2007-02-17

if you want to hear some decent party rap, then go with this cd. all rap is pretty much the same as far as lyrics go, but this has a decent beat to it. i dont discriminate on rap, i like all kinds of other music, and this is some good rap. f*ck the other people that say this is bad because the lyrics suck. rap isnt about the lyrics they are all the f*cking same. it's about havin a good beat that makes you wanna party

1 out of 5 stars More garbage from the south........2007-01-09

"Walk it out" is up there with other terrible tracks such as "laffy taffy" and "lean wit it rock wit it". Music like this makes me want to hug my real hip hop CDs from Nas, Jay-Z, Biggie, Pac, and Wu Tang. This is a joke. Some southern music has a nice beat to it, but just has mediocre lyrics. This, is awful. The lyrics make me want to pull my hair out, and the beat it just decent. This is another no-talent loser trying to make a quick buck. Please, for the love of Hip Hop, DO NOT BUY THIS CD. Go pick up the new Nas CD, or the new Ludacris cd. Luda remains to be the only superb rapper from the south. TI is in second. Everyone else is a disgrace to this country. If we dont kill the "crunk", then "Hip Hop is Dead".

Album Description

Raven presents, for the first time on CD, one of the greatest live recordings ever! By 1979, BOBBY BARE had been recording for 25 years yet when he strapped on a Fender Telecaster and recorded live in the studio a rough and rowdy album with a bunch of Nashville's finest musicians, he was set to hit new highs in an illustrious career. Down & Dirty was both a glorious last hurrah for the `outlaw' movement and a touchstone for the `new country' of current darlings Big & Rich, Gretchen Wilson etc. According to AMG's Thom Jurek it is, "Bare in his element: live, rowdy, and dangerous. This is good-time outlaw country. Bare's band rocks and rolls, swings and strolls through 13 tracks from a rejuvenated Bare. The humor is in large supply; the poignancy is everywhere. But it's the tune selection that makes this is such a killer record." For every outrageous Shel Silverstein song (Numbers, Qualudes Again) there is a tender, sensitive or just plain poetic masterpiece. In the words of Bill Graham, "Bobby Bare is the Bruce Springstein of country music". Embellished with eight stunning bonus tracks, circa 1978-1980, this is good time outlaw country at its finest. Comes with an 8-page booklet with detailed liner notes.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A country western classic.......2007-03-26

What a pleasure to discover that one of the all-time great country-western albums was finally on a CD. Bobby Bare is a singer's singer, a favorite of better known performers like Willie Nelson and Kris Kristoffersen. When he teamed with songwriter Shel Silverstein on rollicking ballads like "Pour Me Another Tequilla, Sheila" and "Numbers," the result was ingenious, literate, up-tempo fun. From the sad tale of bluesman "Blind Willie Harper" to the lyrical truth that "Some Days are Diamonds," there isn't a wrong note in this album.

5 out of 5 stars Classic! It was worth the wait........2007-03-02

Of course this cd finally is released after I jumped through all the necessary hoops to convert my vinyl LP to CD! Even so, I'm thrilled to have the cd at last, not only for the improved sound quality over my converted format, but for the additional tunes. Bare was never better than on this album, and that's saying something. Pointed, poignant, facetious, playful, even angry and bitter -- he displays the full range of emotions here, and never, ever goes over the top. IMHO this is one of the top 10 country LPs of all time. When the Tim McGraws and the Kenny Chesneys of the entertainment world can display this kind of range and talent, I'll buy'em, but not until.

5 out of 5 stars FINALLY!.......2006-12-11

Finally on cd,some of the most fun music recorded ever.Urban Cowboy music at it's best.According to the liner notes "DRUNK AND CRAZY" to be released soon.Looking forward to that!

5 out of 5 stars It's been a long time coming.......2006-12-08

Thank heavens they finally released "Down & Dirty" on CD! My cassette of it gave way years ago and I have been searching for the CD since. This is truly one of the best recordings ever made.

5 out of 5 stars The True Country Outlaw.......2006-11-27

I can't add much more to the terrific and comprehensive album review that sums up in a nutshell what Bobby Bare has done for Country Music.
I have this album as well as the bonus tracks on vinyl and although the quality of the tracks are excellent and the fact that I have already converted them to a cd, this has not stopped me ordering this album.

There has never been an equal to Bobby Bare in song rendition. He interprets the songs with such meaning that you can actually live inside of them.

Because he was so many years ahead of the dreary country scene at the time, he never received the recognition that was due to him. Therefore, this album will be appreciated in this day and age much more than it did in its time.

I rate this as a true masterpiece from a man that should have been inducted to the Country Hall Of Fame a long time ago. If I as a South African can appreciate the "Bare" then all I can say is "Wake up American country fans and smell the roses". Do something about this injustice to Country Music

Product Description

The Portland Oregon music scene is alive and well. Very alive, very well! The Shins, Sleater Kinney, Helio Sequence, Decemberists, Sleater Kinney, The Dandy Warhols, The High Violets, The Thermals and Steven Malkumus. And now joining them is THE UPSIDEDOWN who just released their debut album TRUST ELECTRICITY on Reverb Records. The band had help in the studio from Dandy Warhol and Elliott Smith collaborator Tony Lash (ex-Heatmiser member) and it sounds absolutely brilliant. The band formed out of the ashes of seminal Portland shoegazer band The Bella Low and have been winning fans and influencing people ever since. They just finished up a full-on national tour and radio & press were faithful: The Willamette Week described The Upsidedown as: "dirty, glammed-up, drugged-down guitar rock with a dark heart. Their brand of ambient rock carries forth in a grand tradition: carefully constructed Dandies drone, pop hooks and devil-may-care-decadence." The Willamette Week know how to call it. KPSU described the band as "The best band that will come out of Portland in 2004!" With thumping, psychedelic, sexy and danceable beat driven songs like "Wake Up Drive Thru," "Blackeye Liner" and the Portland/George W. Bush riots inspired track "Pepper Spray," The Upsidedown are on a mission to bring some big bad dirty fun back into the world of independent music. They also successfully navigate territory formerly travelled by Love and Rockets and Echo & the Bunnymen, but with their own style, sound and attitude. And their cover version of Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit in the Sky" is like no other. The band close off the album with their version, which is dripping in fuzz, swagger and sex. Prepare yourself to embrace The Upsidedown sound, which just recently hit shelves in North America.

4 out of 5 stars Psychocandy Revisited.......2005-04-08

If you've spent a lot of time with Galaxie 500, Jesus & the Mary Chain, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Spacemen 3, My Bloody Valentine, etc.-- you have very good taste. And so do the Upsidedown. I feel like I should control my enthusiasm for this record because it's not taking me anywhere new. But visiting familiar musical landscapes with people who can finesse the experience can be quite satisfying. This is a very nicely produced and executed psycho-pop garage trip. It's like a love letter to heroin art rock. Most fans of the genre will fall prey. Lush, trippy, catchy and pretty cool.

Known for his chart-topping single "I Wanna Be a Baller," rapper Lil' Troy can't convince the world that he's foremost a rapper and not just a drug dealer. Sittin' Fat Down South is 14 tracks about the drug life and the struggle to survive it. Guest appearances by southern rappers Scarface and Willie D make the album bearable, as does "Small Time," the album's excellently produced high point featuring a beautiful soprano voice sample, horn, and hard-hitting drums. Sittin' Fat fails, not because of its single-minded subject matter, but because it lacks musical ideas. The album is mostly keyboards with little variation in played or sampled riffs, so almost every song sounds the same. But if you're looking for something with a lot of bass to bump in your system, then Lil' Troy will satisfy your cravings. --Kenji Jasper

4 out of 5 stars This album doesn't blow.......2006-03-22

as some would have you think.

Granted, its not a masterpiece at all, but it bumps and it gets you in that party mood.

Also, those who say the songs all sound the same, def. dont know the rap game at all. Just like all country songs sound the same, and all pop songs sound the same, etc etc, spare me.

Chop Chop Chop goes right into Small Time and those two songs are about as opposite as it gets.

Small Time may be one of the best Rap songs Ive ever heard. Wanna be a baller is ok, I knew of the song when the album came out, but I bought it based on the 6 or so other tracks that are pretty tight. Man, if youre looking for poetry, check out Nas or Tupac, but if youre just looking for some bumping tracks and fun, you cant go wrong with putting this on and starting from track 1 and listening the whole way through. You CAN listen to both in life, its called expanding your mind.

B in My Book is one of the greatest songs ever!! If you never heard it skip all the other track s and check it out. Guaranteed Hit.

The single "Wanna Be a Baller" was okay but i have to admit its no different than the other raps out there. Its all about money cars, getting high, and being a balla. Although that's a part of everyday life, if you know other people live it all the time, why not rap about something new?

5 out of 5 stars Nice Double Disc Of Game From No Limit.......2007-07-22

1995, Master P did a great job gettin homies from all over the south, mostly from New Orleans and Houston, who all deliver A-1 performances over extremely well-produced beats by various beatsmiths from the south. The beats are awesome, great southern fried flava and a heavy dose of G-Funk. Eightball and MJG mobb out in the hard edged west coast vibin' "F' Dem N" produced by Smoke 1 Prod. The Dayton Family from Flint, Mi come south to kick some gangsterism on "Stick N Move," a hard joint from their 1996 album F.B.I. Master P, Gangsta T, Silkk, and King George be settin the party mood in the bouncy crunk joint "Bounce That A--" with a heavy bass beat. There are a couple of joints featuring the No Limit homies that will get your tears jerking. R.I.P. has a slow and gloomy, but melodic atmosphere with Master P, CCG, and Silk all remimniscing over fallen soldiers over a beautiful beat. "So Much Pain" is another sad G-Funker with P, Tre-8, Mia X. C-Loc, a New Orleans legend strikes fear in the whiny synth laden "Who Am I?" E.S.G., from Houston, serves you a phat Southern rider anthem "The South" from his 1994 classic album Ocean Of Funk. The joint has an Aqua Boogie sample and is perfect to lowride to. A creepy, woozy joint is "Murder Weapon" by Hounds From Gert Town. The beat is heavy and crunkish with a hard whiny synth. 20-2-Life and PSK 13 serve ya street knowledge in "The Backstreets" over a gumbo pot of funk. There are way too many songs to go trough and review, but the album is full of hard gangster tales from the south, some struggling hustler joints, a few party joints, and a few reminiscent cuts, and little to no filler too! Don't let this one get away from you. It is rare and getting more expensive as time goes along. This album is a good description of the versatility of southern hip hop, good beats and harsh spits!

Hip hop junkie from Baton Rouge La. This was a real good album. but that is not what I'm here to talk about. This is for one of the reviewers. for your imformation hip hop's first double album was Esham's Judgement Day series. Put money on it.

TRACKS ARE MY WOMEN < BOUNCE DAT AZZ and Hustlin FETAURING C_MURDER AND PNC. THIS 95' release is still in stores

5 out of 5 stars THIS WAS RAP'S FIRST DOUBLE ALBUM.... NOT 2 PAC "ALL EYEZ".......2004-04-05

If yall haven't recognized, this was Hip hop's 1st double CD!!! This cd was released in 1995. But alot of people say the 2 Pac's "All Eyez On Me" cd was the first, even though it was released the next year!!! I just wanted peeps to recognize that this is the true 1st double cd ever put out by a rap artist. I'm sure that the reason why MP didn't say anything is because he was such a Pac fan that he didn't want to mess up his legacy, but hell it's true. PEACE!!!

4 out of 5 stars Bumpin!.......2003-05-02

I was always a little unsure about this alfum, because of the cheesy cover art and how wack some No Limit stuff is, but I bought it used ... and I'll tell you: its bangin! I think my favorite tracks are Playas from the South and the Magnolia Slim track. Not every song is tight, but there are some really cool tracks on this. It has a really raw, underground feel to it. A good value!

5 out of 5 stars This Soundtrack Was Under The Radar.......2005-03-09

This soundtrack was very good, this CD was like what I mention on the Poetic Justice soundtrack. This soundtrack had some star power with artists in hitting or in their prime like Zhane', Silk, Changing Faces, Aaliyah, Tevin Campbell, Hi-Five, & Silk. R-Kelly came with it in one of his best remixes ever of "Homie Lover Friend" with the late Aaliyah singing in the background. Smooth sexy self come in with "Ghetto Style". Also let me not forget some of the underrated rappers from the Big 'O' like Souls of Mischief & Casual who came with it on this soundtrack. Also U.G.K. gave us the radio version of the classic hit "Front, Back, Side to Side", and Mz. Kilo wraps it up on here but her song was not better than the one on Menace II Society soundtrack. Nuttin' Nyce most recognized song "Down 4 Whatever" is featured on here along with newcomer Raja-Nee's cut "Turn It Up". This soundtrack should have gotten more pub but this was during a time when a lot of things were really starting to pop back in late '94 & early '95. Great soundtrack.

3 out of 5 stars pretty good soundtrack.......2004-01-26

I bought this Soundtrack years ago&it sounds alright still.R.Kelly has a cool Re-Mix for "Homie,Lover,Friend"&also his Re-Mix for Changing Faces 'Stroke You Up" is here&also he wrote a New cut for Ayliyah for the Soundtrack. Jimmy Jam&Terry lewis&others are featured on this Soundtrack that blends,New Jack Swing,R&B&Hip-Hop.it stil sounds pretty good.

4 out of 5 stars Tight soundtrack.......2000-02-06

The producers of this soundtrack should have won album of the year for the mellow cuts that they chose to go on this CD. Everything that I heard I enjoyed and I highly recommend this CD.

3 out of 5 stars the king of the south put it down.......1999-10-07

one fairly good compilation especially the cuts by face, will, ugk, hot boys,devin,3-6 mafia, big mike,5th ward boyz, goodie, breed and ace duece.this should have been a one cd compilation because the artist i didn't name put in half a#$ efforts

    1 out of 5 stars A Waste!.......1999-10-06

This is one of the weakest albums i ever bought! the only half decent song is the one by THREE-6-MAFIA, and it's not their best. do not buy this! go buy Project Pat-Getty Green, a REAL album.
