In reply to "Take his Guitar Away".......2004-03-17
I believe that Junior is one of the greatest living blues guitar players, and we are all very fortunate to have someone like this still living so that we can go and see him play and learn from a true master. He is a truly authentic player and draws from broader influences than many so called blues players on the scene. He is a master of West Coast blues in the vein of Pee Wee Crayton and T-Bone. This album is a wonderful documentation of a remarkable musician, do not hesitate to purchase this or any other Junior Watson album.
Dear God, take away his guitar.......2003-10-28
I loved his music, and I loved his singing. Lots of soul. But Dear God... Take away his Guitar. Case in point, On calls everybody sweetheart but me, it's is the worst Guitar work I have ever heard, If it was live I would go up to the stage and grab his guitar and say "Give me that, You are going to hurt yourself." Buy it if for nothing else to laugh and show your friends what Bad Blues is all about.
Mainly For Watson Fans!.......2003-04-02
Junior Watson generally performs jump style blues and is a rather exceptional guitarist. That being said, this CD is more for Junior's die hard fans. Only two Watson originals as Junior chooses to cover some rather obscure blues pieces from the likes of Johnny Otis, Bumlebee Slim, Woo Woo More, Amos Milburn and Pee Wee Crayton as well as the out of place, Latin flavored, "Two Tacos" written by Felix and His Hot Peppers. Barron Shul deserves recognition for his standout sax playing throughout the CD. A bright spot in an otherwise unexceptional recording. Not one of the years top contenders but sure to satisfy his fans nonetheless.
Junior Solo Again-Really Long Overdue.......2003-03-12
Long known among the blues guitar community as one of the most unique and gifted talents of his generation, Junior Watson has made his fans' long wait for his second solo release well worth it with the release of "If I Had a Genie." While not entirely the traditional and jump blues his fans have come to expect, this release is Junior's deepest expression of the diverse influences he absorbed growing up in '60s southern California. Along with the expected tips of his hat to the likes of Lazy Lester, Johnny Otis (the rhumba inspired title cut), Mercury records artist Woo Woo Moore and the inimitable Pee Wee Crayton, Junior serves up tex-mex (Two Tacos), second line New Orleans gumbo ala Snooks Eaglin and a couple of truly memorable swing hooks cooked up with sax man Barron Shul that you'll be humming for days. Sadly, Junior remains one of the larger blue's community's most underappreciated talents, but one hopes his recent signing with the people behind Susan Tedeschi and Johnny Lang will finally bring him the wider recognition he so richly deserves. He's been criss-crossing the country for nearly 3 years now; find out when he'll be in your town.
A solid effort for Junior is better than most........2003-01-17
Any new Junior Watson disc is a treat. It has been a long time since "Long Overdue", and I was excited to hear this one.
This album is not as swing oriented as his first disc. It has some swing elements, but it has more of a traditional blues feel than outright west coast swing.
His guitar playing is always quirky and inspired- this disc is no exception. All of the tracks were cut live with no overdubs, so it has a real live feel to it. His guitar sound is not as big as it used to be, I think due mostly to the fact that he has been using the Les Paul more than the Harmony hollowbody.
Junior's singing on this disc is a real treat. He is normally the guitar player for someone else, but with the emotion and vibe that he puts into this, I don't think he should stay on the sidelines anymore.
If you already are here, you probably like Junior and will buy this disc anyway. If you are not familiar with him, but you enjoy real blues (no rock n' roll added), do yourself a favor and buy this. He is one of the most important blues guitar stylists of the past 20 years.

Best Blue Rodeo album so far!.......2005-06-28
I got into Blue Rodeo because I heard the song, "Somebody Waits" on the radio. I now own Days In Between, Palace of Gold, and Greatest Hits. By that nature, I can only make a comparison between 'Days' and 'Palace', and the songs on the Greatest Hits. It may be just my musical taste, but I would label 'Days' as their greatest hits instead of the album with that name. There isn't a bad song on the whole album. It also has a different feel in the production than the other albums I own. After buying this album, I couldn't wait to get another, and Palace of Gold definitely let me down. I read that 4 days in July is their best album, but most of the songs from that one are already on the Greatest Hits Cd. I still think their best song ever is "Hasn't Hit Me Yet", but I would list all of the songs from this album behind that one before any other song from any other album. Get this album. It is their best.
Thunderstorm Music.......2004-05-03
When the first notes of "Cinema Song" crept through my speakers I couldn't help but get chills. This could possibly be Jim Cuddy's finest moment with Blue Rodeo since "Five Days In May"! This song alone makes the album worth owning (and it's only the first song!). It gets better though, Greg Keelor comes in with "The Seeker" in classic alt.country fashion. Keelor really shone on this album and with lines like "..the fine line between stealing and giving in the landscape of the saints..." is evendence that he was up to good. Other high points are the soaring vocals on the album's first single "Somebody Waits" as Jim Cuddy's crystal clear voice rings high. "The Days In Between" is Greg Keelor's only rocker, but it's one of the most standout songs on the album as is Keelor's moody "This Road" in which Glenn Milchem becomes more than just a drummer, he MAKES that song! The album does have a couple slow points which keeps it from getting the perfect score, but with what's good on here, the snoozers are vastly outweighed.
Blue Rodeo-A great Canadian secret..........2002-03-26
A friend recommended Blue Rodeo a year ago and I now own all of their music. They have a great sound and really moving lyrics. The Days in Between is my absolute favorite and I'm so happy that their CD's are more easily available in the US. Hearing them LIVE is the about only thing that could be better. They are GREAT!
Great Music from Blue Rodeo.......2001-10-01
Blue Rodeo's "The Days In Between" is an excellent album on all accounts. The soulful combination of Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor's songwriting has not been so clearly articulated since their "Five Days in July" album. As with that album, the writing is the strong suit and the performances here are really impeccable. The songs "Cinema Song", "Bitter Fruit", "Andrea" and "Sad Nights" are as good as contemporary songwriting get, and the ending track "Truscott" is one of the most poignant works they've ever composed. Overall, this is a great album from one of the most unfairly overlooked Canadian bands.
Canadian Alt-Country Rides On.......2001-06-27
Blue Rodeo is a band that very well personifies the genre of Alternative Country music, and The Days In Between is an ideal example. They are not Alt-Country Pop in the conventional radio-friendly sense. They have had a good share of fine radio songs and probably have another one with Sad Nights. There's a line in the title cut to this album that I believe sums up the feel of this album, "And I was happy for awhile but then I started chasing your stone cold heart". Ahhhh, good ol' country alcohol lament! The album cover is of a VW Bug driving down a long, black and white country road. Is it sunrise or sunset? Things to ponder when relationships get squirrley. Don't get the wrong impression that this album is depressing. It does put you to thinking and reading the enclosed lyrics but, it also has plenty of Blue Rodeo's trademark excellent drumming and guitar hooks.
The bottom line: If you are new to Blue Rodeo and have a few bucks to spend taking a musical chance, pick this album up. I believe you will enjoy it enough to want to look into their other material. Definitely listen to the clip of Somebody Waits or Sad Nights. If you are a fan, The Days In Between will likely rate with you like the Five Days in July or Casino albums. It's not their masterwork, but it's still quite good.

Underrated and overlooked banger of 04' This album is in GOOD HANDS.......2006-03-26
THis album was a good note for the chief to start our on......THe lyrical style of dis man, cannot be f**ked with....For those that dont know, chief started his rap career in the late 90's and started off being feat on numerous amount of 12's in the underground.......Now we have his solo debut on the Philly label GOOD HANDS RECORDSHe comes as a grimy emcee, yet actually has a vocabulary unlike most rappers that would sound like him......his lyrics are a mix of lyrical, abstract, spiritual/ religious, hardcore, and dark influenced all blended into rhymes........Production is solid, hard, heavy....
THe Best is the highlight on the album, it features Guru and was produced by DJ Kwestion....beat is dark and Kamach comes off very hostile in this one........
HAting on my halo is another good track not to miss on here,
Kamach comes off talking about why he's not associated with the "backpacker" fanbase.........
All in all, solid overlooked album few of these tracks are very passable depending on taste
if you like RAW hiphop this is ur album..
Solid debut album.......2006-03-09
The people who panned this album most likely had unrealistic expectations from Kamachi's guest verses, especially his verse on Jedi Mind Tricks' "Deer Hunter."
This is not a Jedi Mind Tricks album, so every track is not going to be about ancient Mayans, Tibetan black magic, caliphates and attacking mastodons. And few artists or groups have a producer as talented as Stoupe behind them.
That said, this album has a good mix of philosophical/horrorcore content, street rhymes and tracks that are just plain knowledge. Kamachi does sound more grimy on a few of these tracks, but he switches up his flow and delivery enough to keep it interesting.
My biggest complaints were the beats -- a few were good, the majority were passable, but some were just disgusting. But there are bangers here -- "Liberated Wax" has a powerful beat that grows on you as it progresses, and Kamachi's presence on this track is perfectly aggressive. "Best" is classic hip hop, the beat is the type to make you fiend for a mic, Guru and Kamachi are butter and the scratching is just dope. "What You Doin'" makes the best use of a shredding guitar for a sample I've heard in hip hop, and "Hating on My Halo" is vintage Kamachi.
This is not a great album, but it's a solid first full solo record and it has the diversity to attract more than just fans of pure underground hip hop.
this is some good stuff..........2006-02-04
first off, I give the cd 4 1/2 stars, for being straight up dope...it gets 5 stars for charisma and mic presence, and 4 stars for production...at a time when eastern conference recs was in dire strights, out comes kamachi to save the day...now, in reviewing this cd, I must say I typically dont listen to this grimey style of hiphop anymore, as I prefer artists like billy woods, phoenix orion, thirstin howl, and most def jux releases...however, cult status is sick start to finish, literally...the funny thing is that kamachi actually has a vocabulary, and uses few curse words to get his points across, maintaining a high energy level and voice that grabs your ear...a fun album, with a couple nice guest spots...at 13 tracks, the filler has been removed, so feel free to give him a look. peace.
I gave it 2 listens just to make sure it was lousy.......2005-06-08
OK so I hear Kamachi on Jedi Mind Tricks "Violent By Design" Album and I remember the track with Kamachi where I thought he made all the other MC's look bad. So I expect more of the same. Thing is, he doesn't even sound the same. Maybe it's just creative effects on his vocals, I don't know. Different flow, lyrics aren't as potent and his voice is quite a bit more grimy. On top of all that the beats were ho-hum. Bah, waste of money. Anyone need a coaster?
