Return of the Killer A's is by no means a farewell to 13 years of pioneering metal. Rather, it's an assemblage of classics, B-sides, and covers that sums up their career. Scott Ian and bandmates cowrote the 1980s speed-metal bible in an era when most bands were fixated with hairspray, but the band persevered through metal's lean years. They defied convention by becoming one of the first metal acts to gain mass appeal with their reworking of Public Enemy's anthem "Bring the Noise." Their humorous "hit," "I'm the Man," is also here along with such mosh-pit faves as "Antisocial," "Indians," and a sprawling punk-enraged cover of Joe Jackson's "Got the Time." More recent tunes such as the Pantera-like "Hi Pro Glu" and "Crush" are included alongside a version of the Temptations' "Ball of Confusion," with early vocalist Joey Belladonna and current frontman John Bush sharing vocal duties. --Shanthi Sivanesan

Indians rocks! If only the rest of the songs were that good..........2006-05-29

This is a good compilation of Anthrax songs, with some cool tracks on it. However, it's not everything a fan could ever want. Caught in a Mosh, Armed and Dangerous, In My World, Be All End All, and anything from the first album are conspicuously missing, and some atrocious Al Jourgensen remixes were included. The songs that were included, though...

Bring the Noise 6/10 - Even some quality rapping can't save this track from being more of a "Charlie Benante and Public Enemy" song than an Anthrax and Public enemy song. In other words, TURN UP THE GUITARS! Seriously, you can barely hear them.

Only 8/10 Cool song with that circular chorus and one of John Bush's best performances - you can see why Metallica offered him the job as singer.

Potter's Field Remix 5/10 BORING. Seriously, this sucks. Crappy remixes like this one are the reason your CD player has a skip button.

Ball of Confusion 9/10 Not only did they choose a great cover song, John Bush and Joey Belladonna's vocals (on the same song!) go together perfectly. They should think about becoming a two-singer band.

Crush 6/10 Unnecessary. This song should have been taken off and replaced with any of the above-mentioned missing songs.

Room for One More 9/10 A great song, and another reason why Sound of White Noise was better than many of the Belladonna-era albums. (State of Euphoria, I'm looking at you...)

Inside Out 5/10 SNORE.....

Hy Pro Glo Remix 4/10 Terrible. Jourgensen really butchers the song, making it sound robotic.

Fueled 7/10 Another one that should have been replaced.

Among the Living 9/10 Now this is what I'm talking about. Wild punk breaks, a marching chorus and riff to match, and a good vocal performance, and well... this song didn't get any worse from the last time you heard it.

Got the Time 9/10 This fun, frantic Joe Jackson cover (check out the original!) also has one of my favorite moments in it, specifically, the the "two three go!" in the chorus. It's just plain fun.

Indians 10/10 Best song on the greatest hits compilation? I think so! From the beautiful Thin Lizzy twin leads at the beginning to the mournful chorus and hard-charging verses, this is THE perfect Anthrax song.

Antisocial 8/10 Doesn't stand up to Anthrax's original songs, but as covers go, it's a good one.

I'm the Man 8/10 So what if it's the radio edit. It's still hilarious.

Madhouse 9/10 MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I Am the Law 8/10 Cheesy lyrics about Judge Dredd don't make this song any worse.

Although they never achieved the same level of fame as Megadeth, Metallica or Slayer, they still made a significant contribution to metal. And in the end, that's what it's about.

A Must Have for Anthrax fans and fans of classic metal bands........2006-03-06

The title speaks for itself: Return of the Killer A's: The Best of Anthrax. These are the songs that made Anthrax one of the best classic metal bands of all time. They are one of the First Four original metal bands that set the standard for the rest of em, including Metallica, Slayer, and Megadeth.

This album has what you need to get into Antrax if you are new to them, and/or new to metal. It is essential if you are not new. 'nuff said.

The last song on the list: I am the Law, is one of the greatest songs of all time, regardless of genre.

You could buy another cd, or a different Anthrax cd, but then you wouldn't have this one.

Okay compilation.......2005-03-25

Anthrax is a great thrash metal band. They have MANY good songs, a lot more than the sixteen tracks here. While it is lacking, it has some good, redeeming factors. How does this stack up? Read on to find out.

PROS:
-You get many of Anthrax's best works on one CD.
-It's a cheap compilation.
-Almost fills the limit you can fit on a CD.
-Has new songs. (i'll review them before I finish this review)

CONS:
-WHERE THE F**K IS CAUGHT IN A MOSH?!?!?!?!?!??!?!
-Doesn't have songs from all of Anthrax's album.
-Has the RADIO EDIT of I'm The Man.

THE NEW SONGS:
3. Potter's Field (Remix)-5/5-A great song gets a great remix.
4. Ball of Confusion-5/5-HOLY CRAP!!! Joey Belladonna, John Bush AND Danny Lilker on the same track!?!?!?!?! 'Nuff said.

Overall:
If you're new to Anthrax, DON'T buy any of their compilations, buy Among The Living.'Nuff said.

PRETTY COOL ANTHRAX COMPILATION........2004-01-18

I believe that this is a good compilation which has many of this bands classic hits.It is not perfect because it is missing some really good songs,but then again what compilations out there are ever perfect.If you dont have all their albums then this is a good place to start.METAL RULES!!!

this is a solid cd. i would give it 4 1/2 stars, but there are no halves. the only reason it doesnt get a full fledged 5 is cuz its missing a few really good songs from stomp 442 that were replaced with lesser (in my opinion) songs. this is a great cd from start to finish. my personal favorites are inside out, im the man, bring the noise, got the time, and most certainly fueled. hope you enjoy it as much as i do.

And if you ask me, that statement still holds true today. After the breakup of 3rd Bass, MC Serch hit the solo trail for his only retail album to date, 1992's "Return of the Product." This is an album that lives up to its era, and it's got hip hop at its finest from what really was the golden aqe of hip hop. Serch was one of the best characters in hip, not only a clever rhyme writer but a clever humorist and an ingenius social commentator. Throughout the album, Serch delivers laugh-inducing punchlines and thought-inducing commentaries. His flow is unique as his character, and he really was a one-of-a-kind MC. The production comes from an array of producers, most notably including T-Ray and Skeff Anselm, and the production is outstanding. While not revolutionary, it's incredibly catchy throughout, funky and upbeat, even a little jazzy at times. The fact that this album is out of print now is disconcerting only because this is such a standard for '92-era hip hop. Rap music as an art was at its finest when this album was released, and this album is a reason why.

The first song is one of the best, "Here It Comes." This song is the best musically on the album, a fast and head-nodding experience with a great chorus and awesome vibes, Serch raps quickly with clever punchlines and flow. "Don't Have to Be" is an exercise of Serch's social relevance on the album. Despite his being Caucasian, Serch stops at nothing to point out and preach dealing with the problems in urban society. The next song, "Back to the Grill," reunites some of the rappers from the Main Source classic "Live at the Barbeque" (yes, Nas) and introduces some new MCs for a more light, upbeat sequel. "Hard But True" continues on the social consciousness tip, the best part is the second verse which addresses the injustices surrounding a high profile New York City rape case in the early 90s. "Return of the Product" is old school hip hop at its finest. "Daze in a Weak" is the low point of the album. While not a bad song by any means, the beat doesn't match the others at all, it's kind of a winding, repetitive loop that doesn't go anywhere. "Can You Dig It" is clever and catchy. My favorite song on the album is "Social Narcotics," a true classic. This song deals with racism and problems with parents planting prejudice into their children, featuring an appearance from a young Joe Fatal. I can't think of too many songs as simultaneously thoughtful and entertaining as this one. "Hits the Head" is excellent, and "Scenes From the Mind" is nice. The album ends with a good remix to the first song titled "Here It Comes Again."

Today most people probably only know Serch as the bitter veteran on VH1, and that's a shame. "Return of the Product" isn't a perfect or classic album by any means, but it's almost a product of its environment. Given the situations and trends in '92, Serch was able to put together a superb album that somehow still escaped the mainstream eye for the most part. This album can still be found for a reasonable price, and if you get the chance, I highly recommend that you check it out. "Return of the Product" is one for the collection if you love early 90s east coast rap.

Like No Other (4.5 Stars).......2005-02-03

Man I tell ya, they just don't make 'em like this anymore. THIS is what I call real hip hop music. No frills, no gimmicks, no fluff, no getting jiggy, no ice. Just an ill MC getting busy over dope beats. It scares me that the next generation will come up on Ja Rule and Nelly records while albums like this will remain largely forgotten. Return of The Product is one of the illest albums I've ever heard. It's practically flawless. The production is handled by T. Ray, Wolf & Epic, and the criminally underrated Skeff Anslem. Even the cameos from Chubb Rock, Red Hot Lover tone, Fatal, and Nasty Nas (aka Nas) are all on point.

There is only one or two instances where the album is uneven, but not very often. The only slip ups I can think of happen on "Hits The Head" and "Here It Comes Again". Those are the only tracks that I skip from time to time because they're sort of boring. It's also a little strange to hear a white dude kickin' 5% wisdom, but I wouldn't call that a bad thing.

If you haven't heard this album yet, then go pick this up. This is what rap music would sound like in a perfect world. I highly reccomend this to any and everyone that considers themself a fan of rap music. In my opinion, this is a must have rap album.

Trust me, this is tha illest album of all time. Serch comes out with the dopest stuff ever. I hope he gets a record going like he wants, Id buy it, that second!

i bought this album when i was real little, and even if it's uneven in parts i played the hell out of it. i recommend sometime busting out the sega genesis, pop in your favorite sonic the hedgehog game and put this on. ah, memories.

Great, great album...

Serch proved he wasn't just a white boy gimmick (like the Beasties were) and proved he could rhyme on this LP...the lyrics, the beats, everything about this is just pure crack...

The first dope white boy........2006-11-11

Nowadays, a caucasian emcee being ill isn't exactly newsworthy; underground emcees like Esoteric, Cage, and Apathy, along with mainstream favorite Eminem, have shown that white emcees can kick fly verbals just as well as their darker-pigmented brothers. That wasn't the case when MC Serch's Return Of the Product was released, however; with the exception of the Beastie Boys, about the only other prominent white rappers were Vanilla Ice and Snow. Not good company. While those rappers were releasing chart-topping hits, MC Serch was chilling with Nasty Nas "Back At The Grill."

A sadly underrated emcee, MC Serch is one of the dopest punchline emcees you're gonna find from any era. He may look more like a nerd than anything, with his glasses, his polos, his rather large hair, and carrying a little bit of extra baggage - basically, Serch really was the average man, but he could still flip rhymes with some of the greatest in the game. He dropped knowledge(some of which was 5% science - YES, that's strange, but not awkward at all when you're listening to Serch kick the wisdom) like a long lost member of the Wu, and threw knockout blows like a white Big L.

This being his only solo albums, it's an often overlooked album in the transitional period of hip-hop, from golden-age to modern - while it may not be strictly classic, you can't doubt the dopeness that oozes from this album. Old school tracks with bounce, and an emcee as tight as anyone else at the time - the only thing that really hurts this album is the wear and tear time has taken on it. While it's most definitely dope today, it doesn't hold up as well as an album like Redman's Whut? Thee Album released in the same year, but any head can appreciate this album for it's solid rhythm, and ill lyrics - no pun intended here, but this album was definitely one consistent product. Definitely recommended.

Merry Christmas, Cartwrights!.......2005-12-16

On this album, the friends and neighbors of the Cartwrights visit them for a Christmas Eve party. Songs are sung, and stories are told. Unfortunately, the only Cartwright that could sing, Pernell Roberts, barely appears on the album. He doesn't attend the party, and is only heard in a flashback to last year's Christmas party, singing "The Newborn King". The other actors aren't very good singers, with Dan Blocker being especially bad. This CD is for serious Bonanza fans only.
