Kill the Vultures

Editorial Reviews
XLR8R
"Dark, quality production and good rhyme flows...if you get high or are the serious mad-at-the-world type, you'll love this."

Product Description
Kill the Vultures don't make hip-hop. They make junk hop: insulated, spare and stripped-down. Willfully restrained, raw and uncooked, 'Kill the Vultures' is a masterful exercise in excision and reduction. Shedding the skin of their previous outing as Oddjobs, MCs Advizer (Adam Waytz), Crescent Moon (Alexei Casselle) and Nomi (Mario De Mira) push hip-hop in a new direction through the tunnel vision and bare-bones production of Anatomy (Stephen Lewis). The Kill the Vultures crew first met as members of Minnesota collective Cases of Mistaken Identity. It was here that Oddjobs was born. Taking their cues from successful crews like the Hieroglyphics and Rhymesayers, the group quickly took to writing and producing, releasing two singles that climbed to the top of the CMJ charts. When not writing or producing, the crew toured, landing high-profile gigs with the likes of DJ Shadow, Atmosphere, De La Soul, Buck 65 and Zion I. In anticipation of the three-month Seven Travels Tour with Atmosphere, Oddjobs gave up their collective apartment in Brooklyn and moved back to Minnesota, where they spent the winter months following the tour creating 'Kill the Vultures,' an album largely inspired by the gloom that accompanies the Minnesota winter.

    Album Description

The second album by critically acclaimed Minneapolis rust belt hip-hop outfit. An urgent asphalt confessional of Big Apple torment, ghostly hallucinations and white lightning relief over rickety chain gang rhythms, obscured arabesque guitars, and wailing noir sax skronk. "Over a pounding clatter that's part Age Of Chance, part Public Enemy, three commanding voices swing like mad over the racket, like Last Poets on a bed of bongos" - Twin Cities. "...innovative avant-rap that sounds a little like walking through a tool shed in the dark while carrying a boombox blaring free jazz" - City Pages.

I can only quote Amazon editorial reviewer's presentation of this record: "...insulated, spare and stripped-down. Willfully restrained, raw and uncooked, 'Kill the Vultures' is a masterful exercise in excision and reduction". It's a perfect description of this music. I can only add that this is a very strong musical statement, something very hard to find these days, particularly in this line of music, hip hop, junk hop, whatever. I absolutely recommend this music to anyone but the faint of heart...
